ਤਿਸ ਦੀ ਬੂਝੈ ਜਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਕਮਾਏ ॥
tis dee boojhai je gur sabad kamaa-ay.
Only that person’s fire of worldly desire gets extinguished who leads life in accordance with the Guru’s divine word.
ਇਹ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ-ਅੱਗ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਬੁੱਝਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੧੫॥
tan man seetal kroDh nivaaray ha-umai maar samaa-i-aa. ||15||
That person’s body and mind become calm and getting rid of his anger he remains merged in the Guru’s word.||15||
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਤਨ ਮਨ ਸ਼ਾਂਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹਉਮੈ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਗੁਰ-ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ) ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੫॥
ਸਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਚੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
sachaa saahib sachee vadi-aa-ee.
Eternal is God and eternal is His glory,
ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਭੀ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਵਿਰਲੈ ਪਾਈ ॥
gur parsaadee virlai paa-ee.
by the Guru’s grace, only a rare one has received the gift of singing God’s glory.
ਕਿਸੇ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ (ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ) ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਏਕ ਕਹੈ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਨਾਮੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੧੬॥੧॥੨੩॥
naanak ayk kahai baynantee naamay naam samaa-i-aa. ||16||1||23||
Nanak makes this one supplication: One who has received the gift of singing God’s praises, remains merged with God’s Name. ||16||1||23||
ਨਾਨਕ ਇਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ ਉਹ) ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੬॥੧॥੨੩॥

Raag Maaroo, Third Guru:
ਨਦਰੀ ਭਗਤਾ ਲੈਹੁ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥
nadree bhagtaa laihu milaa-ay.
O’ God! through Your grace You unite Your devotees with You.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! ਆਪਣੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਨਾਲ (ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਜੋੜ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈਂ,
ਭਗਤ ਸਲਾਹਨਿ ਸਦਾ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਏ ॥
bhagat salaahan sadaa liv laa-ay.
Your devotees keep singing Your praises by remaining focused on You.
ਭਗਤ (ਤੇਰੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਸੁਰਤ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਤਉ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਉਬਰਹਿ ਕਰਤੇ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
ta-o sarnaa-ee ubrahi kartay aapay mayl milaa-i-aa. ||1||
They are saved from vices by remaining in Your refuge: O’ Creator! You unite your devotees with Yourself by first uniting them with the Guru. ||1||
ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈਂ ॥੧॥
ਪੂਰੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਸੁਹਾਈ ॥
poorai sabad bhagat suhaa-ee.
O’ God, one in whose mind the devotional worship, done through the perfect Guru’s word, seems beauteous;
ਹੇ ਕਰਤਾਰ! ਪੂਰੇ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ) ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ (ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਤੇਰੀ) ਭਗਤੀ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਤੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਈ ॥
antar sukh tayrai man bhaa-ee.
this devotional worship is pleasing to You and peace prevails within him.
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ) ਤੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਸਚੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਰਾਤਾ ਸਚੇ ਸਿਉ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
man tan sachee bhagtee raataa sachay si-o chit laa-i-aa. ||2||
One whose mind and body remain imbued with true devotional worship, he keeps his mind focused on the eternal God. ||2||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਤਨ ਸੱਚੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣਾ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੜ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਸਦ ਜਲੈ ਸਰੀਰਾ ॥
ha-umai vich sad jalai sareeraa.
One remains so miserable in egotism, as if his body is burning from within.
ਹਉਮੈ (ਦੀ ਅੱਗ) ਵਿਚ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ) ਸਰੀਰ (ਅੰਦਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਸਦਾ ਸੜਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਰਮੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਭੇਟੇ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ॥
karam hovai bhaytay gur pooraa.
But when God grants grace, one meets the perfect Guru,
(ਜਦੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ) ਮਿਹਰ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
antar agi-aan sabad bujhaa-ay satgur tay sukh paa-i-aa. ||3||
then he removes his spiritual ignorance from within through the divine word and receives inner peace from the true Guru. ||3||
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ-ਵੱਸਦੇ ਅਗਿਆਨ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨਾਲ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਸੁਖੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਅੰਧਾ ਅੰਧੁ ਕਮਾਏ ॥
manmukh anDhaa anDh kamaa-ay.
A spiritually ignorant self-willed person, in the love for materialism, keeps doing unrighteous deeds;
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ) ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਅੰਨ੍ਹਿਆਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਕੰਮ ਹੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ;
ਬਹੁ ਸੰਕਟ ਜੋਨੀ ਭਰਮਾਏ ॥
baho sankat jonee bharmaa-ay.
he endures many troubles and wanders through reincarnations.
ਉਹ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਕਸ਼ਟ ਸਹਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਮ ਕਾ ਜੇਵੜਾ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਕਾਟੈ ਅੰਤੇ ਬਹੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੪॥
jam kaa jayvrhaa kaday na kaatai antay baho dukh paa-i-aa. ||4||
He can never cut loose the noose (fear) of death and in the end endures intense suffering. ||4||
(ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਗਲੋਂ) ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਦੀ ਫਾਹੀ ਕਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੱਟ ਸਕਦਾ। ਅੰਤ ਵੇਲੇ ਭੀ ਉਹ ਬਹੁਤ ਦੁੱਖ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ॥
aavan jaanaa sabad nivaaray.
Through the Guru’s word, that person ends his cycle of birth and death
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਖੈ ਉਰ ਧਾਰੇ ॥
sach naam rakhai ur Dhaaray.
who keeps the eternal God’s Name enshrined within his heart.
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰੈ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਰੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਜਾਇ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੫॥
gur kai sabad marai man maaray ha-umai jaa-ay samaa-i-aa. ||5||
By reflecting on the Guru’s word, he eradicates his self-conceit and controls his mind; his egotism goes away and he always remains merged in God. ||5||
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣੈ ਪਰਜ ਵਿਗੋਈ ॥
aavan jaanai paraj vigo-ee.
In the cycles of birth and death, the worldly people are being ruined.
ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਥਿਰੁ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
bin satgur thir ko-ay na ho-ee.
Without the true Guru’s teachings, none can become spiritually stable.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਸਦੀਵੀ ਸਥਿਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ। ।
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਵਸਿਆ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥੬॥
antar jot sabad sukh vasi-aa jotee jot milaa-i-aa. ||6||
One within whom manifests God’s supreme light, he enjoys inner peace and his light remains united with God’s supreme light. ||6||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਪਰਗਟ ਹੋ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੬॥
ਪੰਚ ਦੂਤ ਚਿਤਵਹਿ ਵਿਕਾਰਾ ॥
panch doot chitvahi vikaaraa.
Under the effect of five demons (lust, anger, greed, attachment and ego) people keep contemplating evil thoughts.
(ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ) ਪੰਜ ਵੈਰੀਆਂ ਦੇ (ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਦੇ) ਕਾਰਨ (ਜੀਵ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ) ਵਿਕਾਰ ਚਿਤਵਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਕਾ ਏਹੁ ਪਸਾਰਾ ॥
maa-i-aa moh kaa ayhu pasaaraa.
(That is why), this entire world has become an expanse of the love for Maya.
ਹਰ ਪਾਸੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਬਣਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਤਾ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਪੰਚ ਦੂਤ ਵਸਿ ਆਇਆ ॥੭॥
satgur sayvay taa mukat hovai panch doot vas aa-i-aa. ||7||
Only when one follows the true Guru’s teachings, one gets liberated from the love for Maya and the five demons (vices) come under his control. ||7||.
ਜਦੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਦੋਂ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਦਬਾਅ ਤੋਂ ਸੁਤੰਤਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ) ਪੰਜੇ ਵੈਰੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੭॥
ਬਾਝੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਹੈ ਮੋਹੁ ਗੁਬਾਰਾ ॥
baajh guroo hai moh gubaaraa.
Without the Guru’s teachings, there is spiritual ignorance leading to darkness of worldly attachment,
ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਇਤਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਬਲ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਨ-ਰਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਲੋਂ ਘੁੱਪ ਹਨੇਰਾ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਡੁਬੈ ਵਾਰੋ ਵਾਰਾ ॥
fir fir dubai vaaro vaaraa.
and one repeatedly keeps drowning in the ocean of love for worldly desires.
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਵਾਰੀ (ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚ) ਡੁੱਬਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭੇਟੇ ਸਚੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਇਆ ॥੮॥
satgur bhaytay sach drirh-aa-ay sach naam man bhaa-i-aa. ||8||
When one meets the true Guru, he instills God’s Name in that person’s heart; then the Name of eternal God becomes pleasing to his mind.||8||
ਜਦੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪੱਕਾ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਤਾਂ ਫਿਰ) ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੮॥
ਸਾਚਾ ਦਰੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਦਰਵਾਰਾ ॥
saachaa dar saachaa darvaaraa.
Eternal is the abode of God and eternal is God’s system of justice.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਦਰ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਭੀ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹੈ।
ਸਚੇ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥
sachay sayveh sabad pi-aaraa.
Those who develop love for the Guru’s word, they alone lovingly remember God.
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰ ਪਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸਚੀ ਧੁਨਿ ਸਚੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਾ ਸਚੇ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੯॥
sachee Dhun sachay gun gaavaa sachay maahi samaa-i-aa. ||9||
With a divinely tune I wish to sing praises of the eternal God; those who sing the praises of the eternal God, remain merged in Him. ||9||
(ਜੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਹੋਵੇ ਤਾਂ) ਮੈਂ (ਭੀ) ਟਿਕਵੀਂ ਲਗਨ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ। (ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ) ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੯॥
ਘਰੈ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਕੋ ਘਰੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
gharai andar ko ghar paa-ay.
One who finds God’s presence within his heart,
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਲੱਭ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਏ ॥
gur kai sabday sahj subhaa-ay.
through the Guru’s word, he intuitively attains a state of spiritual poise.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਓਥੈ ਸੋਗੁ ਵਿਜੋਗੁ ਨ ਵਿਆਪੈ ਸਹਜੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੧੦॥
othai sog vijog na vi-aapai sehjay sahj samaa-i-aa. ||10||
In that state, one is not afflicted by sorrow or separation from God and one intuitively lives in a state of spiritual poise. ||10||
ਉਸ ਅਡੋਲ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆਂ ਸੋਗ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ, (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਵਿਛੋੜਾ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ। ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੦॥
ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਦੁਸਟਾ ਕਾ ਵਾਸਾ ॥
doojai bhaa-ay dustaa kaa vaasaa.
The evil people live in the love of duality.
ਕੁਕਰਮੀ ਬੰਦੇ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾ ਕੇ) ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਭਉਦੇ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਬਹੁ ਮੋਹ ਪਿਆਸਾ ॥
bha-uday fireh baho moh pi-aasaa.
They wander around, totally engrossed in the love and yearning for materialism.
ਬੜੇ ਮੋਹ ਬੜੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਉਹ ਭਟਕਦੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਕੁਸੰਗਤਿ ਬਹਹਿ ਸਦਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਦੁਖੋ ਦੁਖੁ ਕਮਾਇਆ ॥੧੧॥
kusangat baheh sadaa dukh paavahi dukho dukh kamaa-i-aa. ||11||
Associating with bad company, they always endure suffering and are afflicted with one misery after another. ||11||.
ਕੁਕਰਮੀ ਬੰਦੇ) ਸਦਾ ਭੈੜੀ ਸੁਹਬਤ ਵਿਚ ਬੈਠਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਪਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਉਹੀ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਨਿਰਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਹੀ ਦੁੱਖ ਨਿਕਲੇ ॥੧੧॥
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
satgur baajhahu sangat na ho-ee.
The company of virtuous people is not attained without the true Guru’s grace.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਭਲੀ ਸੁਹਬਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦੀ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੇ ਪਾਰੁ ਨ ਪਾਏ ਕੋਈ ॥
bin sabday paar na paa-ay ko-ee.
No one can cross over the world-ocean of vices without following the Guru’s word.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕੁਕਰਮਾਂ (ਦੀ ਨਦੀ) ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਉਤਾਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਇਆ ।
ਸਹਜੇ ਗੁਣ ਰਵਹਿ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥੧੨॥
sehjay gun raveh din raatee jotee jot milaa-i-aa. ||12||
Those who intuitively keep singing praises of God day and night, their light remains united with the supreme light.||12||.
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਸੁਭਾਵਿਕ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧੨॥
ਕਾਇਆ ਬਿਰਖੁ ਪੰਖੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਵਾਸਾ ॥
kaa-i-aa birakh pankhee vich vaasaa.
The body is like a tree, in which the soul resides like a bird.
ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਮਾਨੋ ਰੁੱਖ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਜੀਵ-ਪੰਛੀ ਦਾ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਹੈ।
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਚੁਗਹਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਿਵਾਸਾ ॥
amrit chugeh gur sabad nivaasaa.
Those who keep their mind in the Guru’s word and partake in the ambrosial nectar of Naam,
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਜੀਵ-ਪੰਛੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਨਾਮ-ਚੋਗ ਚੁਗਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਉਡਹਿ ਨ ਮੂਲੇ ਨ ਆਵਹਿ ਨ ਜਾਹੀ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸਾ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧੩॥
udeh na moolay na aavahi na jaahee nij ghar vaasaa paa-i-aa. ||13||
they do not wander around at all, they do not fall in the cycle of birth and death because they have found a place abode in God’s presence. ||13||.
ਉਹ ਬਿਲਕੁਲ ਬਾਹਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਭਟਕਦੇ, ਉਹ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੇ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧੩॥
ਕਾਇਆ ਸੋਧਹਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਹਿ ॥
kaa-i-aa soDheh sabad vichaareh.
Those who reflect on the Guru’s word and purify their bodies from the vices,
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਸਰੀਰ ਦੀ ਪੜਤਾਲ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਈ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਮੋਹ ਠਗਉਰੀ ਭਰਮੁ ਨਿਵਾਰਹਿ ॥
moh thag-uree bharam nivaareh.
they purge themselves of the poison of worldly attachment and doubt.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮੋਹ ਦੀ ਠੱਗ-ਬੂਟੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਖਾਂਦੇ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਆਪੇ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥੧੪॥
aapay kirpaa karay sukh-daata aapay mayl milaa-i-aa. ||14||
God, the giver of peace, Himself bestows mercy and unite them with the Guru, and then with Himself. ||14||.
ਪਰ, (ਇਹ) ਕਿਰਪਾ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਲ) ਮਿਲਾ ਕੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੪॥
