ਜਿਸੁ ਭਾਣਾ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਤੁਝਹਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥
jis bhaanaa bhaavai so tujheh samaa-ay.
One who is pleased with Your will, merges in You.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਭਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਤੇਰੇ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਭਾਣੇ ਵਿਚਿ ਵਡੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਭਾਣਾ ਕਿਸਹਿ ਕਰਾਇਦਾ ॥੩॥
bhaanay vich vadee vadi-aa-ee bhaanaa kiseh karaa-idaa. ||3||
There lies great glory in accepting God’s will, but rare is the one whom God makes to live in accordance with His will. ||3||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਰਿਹਾਂ ਬੜੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ। ਪਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਨੂੰ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਤੋਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਜਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥
jaa tis bhaavai taa guroo milaa-ay.
When it pleases God, He unites a person with the Guru,
ਜਦੋਂ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
gurmukh naam padaarath paa-ay.
then that person receives the treasure of Naam through the Guru’s teachings.
ਤੇ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੋਇਆ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਨਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਤੁਧੁ ਆਪਣੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਸਭ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਉਪਾਈ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਭਾਣਾ ਦੇਹਿ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਇਦਾ ॥੪॥
tuDh aapnai bhaanai sabh sarisat upaa-ee jis no bhaanaa deh tis bhaa-idaa. ||4||
O’ God, You have created this entire universe by Your own will, and Your will becomes pleasing to the one whom You inspire to accept it. ||4||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਇਹ ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ। ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਮੰਨਣ ਦੀ ਤਾਕਤ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਅੰਧੁ ਕਰੇ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ॥
manmukh anDh karay chaturaa-ee.
A self-willed person blinded by the love for Maya tries to play clever,
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਹੋ ਚੁਕਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਆਪਣੇ ਵਲੋਂ ਬਥੇਰੀ) ਸਿਆਣਪ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਭਾਣਾ ਨ ਮੰਨੇ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਈ ॥
bhaanaa na mannay bahut dukh paa-ee.
but he does not accept God’s will and endures immense suffering.
ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੰਨਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਦੁੱਖ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਭਰਮੇ ਭੂਲਾ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਏ ਘਰੁ ਮਹਲੁ ਨ ਕਬਹੂ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੫॥
bharmay bhoolaa aavai jaa-ay ghar mahal na kabhoo paa-idaa. ||5||
Strayed in doubt, such a person falls in the cycle of birth and death and never unites with God. ||5||
ਮਨ ਦਾ ਮੁਰੀਦ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਕਦੇ ਭੀ (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਥਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੫॥
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲੇ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
satgur maylay day vadi-aa-ee.
That person whom God unites with the true Guru, God blesses him with glory.
(ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਦੀ) ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਧੁਰਿ ਫੁਰਮਾਈ ॥
satgur kee sayvaa Dhur furmaa-ee.
God has issued the command about following the Guru’s teachings from the very beginning.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਧੁਰੋਂ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਤਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਾਏ ਨਾਮੇ ਹੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੬॥
satgur sayvay taa naam paa-ay naamay hee sukh paa-idaa. ||6||
When one follows the true Guru’s teachings, he receives Naam and enjoys inner peace by remembering God. ||6||
ਜਦੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੬॥
ਸਭ ਨਾਵਹੁ ਉਪਜੈ ਨਾਵਹੁ ਛੀਜੈ ॥
sabh naavhu upjai naavhu chheejai.
All the virtues well-up within a person by lovingly remembering Naam and all his vices vanish by remembering Naam.
ਨਾਮ (ਸਿਮਰਨ) ਤੋਂ ਹਰੇਕ (ਗੁਣ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਨਾਮ (ਸਿਮਰਨ) ਤੋਂ (ਹਰੇਕ ਔਗੁਣ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਭੀਜੈ ॥
gur kirpaa tay man tan bheejai.
By the Guru’s grace, the mind and body are imbued with the nectar of Naam.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ (ਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ) ਮਨ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ) ਤਨ (ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਵਿਚ) ਭਿੱਜਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਰਸਨਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਏ ਰਸਿ ਭੀਜੈ ਰਸ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਰਸੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੭॥
rasnaa naam Dhi-aa-ay ras bheejai ras hee tay ras paa-idaa. ||7||
When one meditates on God’s Name with his tongue, one is drenched with spiritual bliss and from that he receives much more bliss. ||7||
(ਜਦੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੀ) ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਅਨੰਦ ਵਿਚ ਭਿੱਜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਆਨੰਦ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹੋਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
ਮਹਲੈ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਮਹਲੁ ਕੋ ਪਾਏ ॥
mahlai andar mahal ko paa-ay.
One who realizes God’s presence within his heart,
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਲੱਭ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਚਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਏ ॥
gur kai sabad sach chit laa-ay.
through the Gurus word, he focuses his mind on the eternal God’s Name.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਸਚੁ ਦੇਇ ਸੋਈ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਏ ਸਚੇ ਸਚਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੮॥
jis no sach day-ay so-ee sach paa-ay sachay sach milaa-idaa. ||8||
That person alone receives the eternal God’s Name, whom He blesses with it and he always remains united with the eternal God. ||8||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਇਹ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਉਹ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਇਸ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ-ਮਿਕ ਹੋਇਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੮॥
ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
naam visaar man tan dukh paa-i-aa.
By forsaking God’s Name, a person endures only suffering in his mind and body,
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਭੁਲਾ ਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਤਨ ਵਿਚ ਦੁਖ ਹੀ ਪਾਇਆ ਹੈ,
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਸਭੁ ਰੋਗੁ ਕਮਾਇਆ ॥
maa-i-aa moh sabh rog kamaa-i-aa.
and earns only spiritual deterioration due to the love for materialism.
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਰਾਹੀਂ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਨਿਰਾ (ਆਤਮਕ) ਰੋਗ ਹੀ ਖੱਟਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਹੈ ਕੁਸਟੀ ਨਰਕੇ ਵਾਸਾ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੯॥
bin naavai man tan hai kustee narkay vaasaa paa-idaa. ||9||
Without meditating on Name, one’s body and mind are afflicted with spiritual afflictions; he suffers so much mental anguish as if he lives in hell. ||9||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਭੀ ਰੋਗੀ, ਤਨ ਭੀ ਰੋਗੀ ਹੈ , ਉਹ ਨਰਕ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੯॥
ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਤਿਨ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਦੇਹਾ ॥
naam ratay tin nirmal dayhaa.
Immaculate are the bodies of those who are imbued with God’s Name.
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ) ਹਨ,
ਨਿਰਮਲ ਹੰਸਾ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਨੇਹਾ ॥
nirmal hansaa sadaa sukh nayhaa.
Their swan-like soul is immaculate and imbued with the love of God’s Name, they always enjoy inner peace
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਤਮਾ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ) ਪਿਆਰ (ਜੋੜ ਕੇ) ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਨਾਮੁ ਸਲਾਹਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸਾ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੦॥
naam salaahi sadaa sukh paa-i-aa nij ghar vaasaa paa-idaa. ||10||
By singing the praises of God, one always receives inner peace and attains a place in God’s presence. ||10||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੦॥
ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਵਣਜੁ ਕਰੇ ਵਾਪਾਰਾ ॥
sabh ko vanaj karay vaapaaraa.
Everyone is doing some kind of business (and trying to make profit),
(ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਕੇ) ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਵਣਜ ਵਾਪਾਰ (ਆਦਿਕ ਕੋਈ ਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਕਾਰ-ਵਿਹਾਰ) ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਸਭੁ ਤੋਟਾ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥
vin naavai sabh totaa sansaaraa.
but except for the trade of God’s Name, there is spiritual loss in all other trades.
ਪਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਸੱਖਣੇ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਨਿਰਾ ਘਾਟਾ (ਹੀ ਘਾਟਾ) ਹੈ,
ਨਾਗੋ ਆਇਆ ਨਾਗੋ ਜਾਸੀ ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੧॥
naago aa-i-aa naago jaasee vin naavai dukh paa-idaa. ||11||
Because one comes naked (without worldly possessions), and would depart naked; one endures misery without remembering God’s Name. ||11||
ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਜੀਵ ਨੰਗਾ ਹੀ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਇਥੋਂ ਨੰਗਾ ਹੀ ਤੁਰ ਜਾਇਗਾ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਵਾਂਝਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਦੁੱਖ ਹੀ ਸਹਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੧॥
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੇਇ ਸੋ ਪਾਏ ॥
jis no naam day-ay so paa-ay.
Only whom God Himself gives the gift of Naam, receives it.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ (ਹੀ ਇਹ ਦਾਤਿ) ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਹਰਿ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥
gur kai sabad har man vasaa-ay.
He enshrines God in his mind by reflecting on the Guru’s divine word.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸਿਆ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਮੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਦਾ ॥੧੨॥
gur kirpaa tay naam vasi-aa ghat antar naamo naam Dhi-aa-idaa. ||12||
By Guru’s grace, God’s Name manifests within his heart and he always lovingly remembers God’s Name. ||12||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੨॥
ਨਾਵੈ ਨੋ ਲੋਚੈ ਜੇਤੀ ਸਭ ਆਈ ॥
naavai no lochai jaytee sabh aa-ee.
Everyone who comes into the world, long for God’s Name,
ਜਿਤਨੀ ਭੀ ਲੁਕਾਈ (ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ (ਉਹ ਸਾਰੀ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਤਾਂਘ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਨਾਉ ਤਿਨਾ ਮਿਲੈ ਧੁਰਿ ਪੁਰਬਿ ਕਮਾਈ ॥
naa-o tinaa milai Dhur purab kamaa-ee.
but they alone realize God’s Name who are preordained based on their past deeds.
ਪਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਕੇਵਲ ਉਹ ਹੀ ਪਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਚੰਗੇ ਕਰਮ ਕੀਤੇ ਹਨ।
ਜਿਨੀ ਨਾਉ ਪਾਇਆ ਸੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੩॥
jinee naa-o paa-i-aa say vadbhaagee gur kai sabad milaa-idaa. ||13||
Those who realize God’s Name are very fortunate, God unites them with Himself through the Guru’s divine word. ||13||
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੩॥
ਕਾਇਆ ਕੋਟੁ ਅਤਿ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
kaa-i-aa kot at apaaraa.
This human body is like a fort for the extremely limitless God.
(ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਇਹ) ਸਰੀਰ ਉਸ ਬਹੁਤ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦੇ ਰਹਿਣ) ਲਈ ਕਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਤਿਸੁ ਵਿਚਿ ਬਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਕਰੇ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
tis vich bahi parabh karay veechaaraa.
Dwelling within it, God ponders over many things.
ਇਸ ਕਿਲ੍ਹੇ ਵਿਚ ਬੈਠ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਕਈ ਕਿਸਮ ਦੇ) ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਚਾ ਨਿਆਉ ਸਚੋ ਵਾਪਾਰਾ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਵਾਸਾ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੪॥
sachaa ni-aa-o sacho vaapaaraa nihchal vaasaa paa-idaa. ||14||
Eternal is the justice of God; one who deals in the trade of remembering God’s eternal Name, attains permanent abode in His presence. ||14||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਿਆਂ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ। ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਵਾਪਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ (ਇਸ ਕਿਲ੍ਹੇ ਵਿਚ) ਭਟਕਣਾ ਤੋਂ ਰਹਿਤ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੪॥
ਅੰਤਰ ਘਰ ਬੰਕੇ ਥਾਨੁ ਸੁਹਾਇਆ ॥
antar ghar bankay thaan suhaa-i-aa.
Deep within the human body are the beautiful organs (mind and heart etc) which are like beautiful homes.
(ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਨਾਲ) ਸਰੀਰ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਬੁੱਧੀ ਆਦਿਕ) ਅੰਦਰਲੇ ਘਰ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਬਣੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਹਿਰਦਾ-ਥਾਂ ਭੀ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਿਰਲੈ ਕਿਨੈ ਥਾਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
gurmukh virlai kinai thaan paa-i-aa.
But only a rare Guru’s follower finds this place.
ਕਿਸੇ ਉਸ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਥਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਇਤੁ ਸਾਥਿ ਨਿਬਹੈ ਸਾਲਾਹੇ ਸਚੇ ਹਰਿ ਸਚਾ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੫॥
it saath nibhai saalaahay sachay har sachaa man vasaa-idaa. ||15||
That person alone is able to maintain this companionship with the eternal God, who keeps praising Him and enshrines Him within his mind. ||15||
ਇਸ ਸਾਥ ਵਿਚ ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਿਭਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਹੜਾ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੫॥
ਮੇਰੈ ਕਰਤੈ ਇਕ ਬਣਤ ਬਣਾਈ ॥
mayrai kartai ik banat banaa-ee.
My Creator-God has made a unique arrangement,
ਮੇਰੇ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਇਕ (ਅਜੀਬ) ਵਿਓਂਤ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ,
ਇਸੁ ਦੇਹੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਸਭ ਵਥੁ ਪਾਈ ॥
is dayhee vich sabh vath paa-ee.
that He has placed everything for living righteous life within the human body.
ਕਿ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ (ਹੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ) ਸਾਰੀ ਰਾਸਿ-ਪੂੰਜੀ ਪਾ ਰੱਖੀ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਣਜਹਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੬॥੬॥੨੦॥
naanak naam vanjahi rang raatay gurmukh ko naam paa-idaa. ||16||6||20||
O’ Nanak, those who trade in Naam, remain imbued with God’s love; only that person receives Naam who follows the Guru’s teachings. ||16||6||20||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਵਣਜ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਕੋਈ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੬॥੬॥੨੦॥

Raag Maaroo, Third Guru:
ਕਾਇਆ ਕੰਚਨੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
kaa-i-aa kanchan sabad veechaaraa.
The body of a person becomes pure like Gold (free of vices) who reflects on the Guru’s divine word.
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ) ਸਰੀਰ ਸੋਨੇ ਵਰਗਾ ਸੁੱਧ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਤਿਥੈ ਹਰਿ ਵਸੈ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰਾ ॥
tithai har vasai jis daa ant na paaraavaaraa.
In that body manifests God whose virtues and creation has no end or limit.
ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ, ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਹਸਤੀ ਦਾ ਪਾਰਲਾ ਉਰਲਾ ਬੰਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭ ਸਕਦਾ, ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਿਹੁ ਸਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੧॥
an-din har sayvihu sachee banee har jee-o sabad milaa-idaa. ||1||
O’ brother, always perform devotional worship of God through the Guru’s divine word; God unites a person with Himself through the Guru’s divine word. |||1||
ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਿਹਾ ਕਰੋ। ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
