ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਸਹਜ ਅਨੰਦਾ ॥
satgur sayvi-ai sahj anandaa.
Bliss of spiritual stability is received by following the true Guru’s teachings,
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਨਾਲ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਹਿਰਦੈ ਆਇ ਵੁਠਾ ਗੋਵਿੰਦਾ ॥
hirdai aa-ay vuthaa govindaa.
and God of the universe manifests in the heart.
ਅਤੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਹਜੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਆਪੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਾਇਦਾ ॥੪॥
sehjay bhagat karay din raatee aapay bhagat karaa-idaa. ||4||
Then, in a state of spiritual poise, one always worships God with loving devotion; God Himself inspires one to do His devotional worship. ||4||
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।ਪ ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਵਿਛੁੜੇ ਤਿਨੀ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
satgur tay vichhurhay tinee dukh paa-i-aa.
Those who are alienated from the true Guru’s teachings, have created a state of inner suffering for themselves.
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ (ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ) ਤੋਂ ਵਿਛੁੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਦੁੱਖ ਹੀ ਦੁੱਖ ਸਹੇੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਮਾਰੀਅਹਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਸਬਾਇਆ ॥
an-din maaree-ah dukh sabaa-i-aa.
They keep deteriorating spiritually and mentally agonize all the time.
ਉਹ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਚੋਟਾਂ ਖਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹਰੇਕ ਕਿਸਮ ਦਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਵਾਪਰਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਥੇ ਕਾਲੇ ਮਹਲੁ ਨ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਦੁਖ ਹੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੫॥
mathay kaalay mahal na paavahi dukh hee vich dukh paa-idaa. ||5||
They are disgraced and do not find a place in God’s presence; a person without the Guru’s teachings keeps mentally agonizing. ||5||
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਕਾਲੇ ਹੋਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ। (ਗੁਰੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਵਿਛੁੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਸਦਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਗ੍ਰਸਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ॥
satgur sayveh say vadbhaagee.
Those who follow the True Guru’s teachings are very fortunate.
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਬੜੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ।
ਸਹਜ ਭਾਇ ਸਚੀ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ॥
sahj bhaa-ay sachee liv laagee.
In a very natural way, their mind remains attuned to the true love of God.
ਕਿਸੇ ਖ਼ਾਸ ਜਤਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨਾਲ ਸੱਚਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਚੋ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਸਚੈ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੬॥
sacho sach kamaaveh sad hee sachai mayl milaa-idaa. ||6||
They always lovingly remember God; the Guru unites them with the eternal God by uniting them to himself (to his teachings). ||6||
ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਕਮਾਈ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਗੁਰੂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੬॥
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਸਚਾ ਦੇਇ ਸੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
jis no sachaa day-ay so paa-ay.
He alone receives the gift of Naam, whom the eternal God Himself gives.
ਪਰ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਹੀ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ) ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਾਚੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਏ ॥
antar saach bharam chukaa-ay.
The eternal God remains enshrined in his heart and that person removes his doubt.
ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਚੁ ਸਚੈ ਕਾ ਆਪੇ ਦਾਤਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਦੇਵੈ ਸੋ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੭॥
sach sachai kaa aapay daataa jis dayvai so sach paa-idaa. ||7||
The eternal God Himself is the benefactor of Naam, and that person alone receives it whom He Himself gives. ||7||
ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹੈ। ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਨਾਮ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਸਭਨਾ ਕਾ ਸੋਈ ॥
aapay kartaa sabhnaa kaa so-ee.
God Himself is the Creator of all beings.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਪਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਬੂਝੈ ਕੋਈ ॥
jis no aap bujhaa-ay boojhai ko-ee.
Only a rare person, whom God Himself makes to understand, understands this.
ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਕੋਈ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹੀ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਸਮਝਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸੇ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੮॥
aapay bakhsay day vadi-aa-ee aapay mayl milaa-idaa. ||8||
God Himself bestows His grace, blesses with glory and brings union with Himself through the Guru. ||8||
ਕਰਤਾਰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਲ) ਮਿਲਾ ਕੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਮਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੮॥
ਹਉਮੈ ਕਰਦਿਆ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥
ha-umai kardi-aa janam gavaa-i-aa.
One who has wasted his life indulging in egotism,
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਗਵਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ,
ਆਗੈ ਮੋਹੁ ਨ ਚੂਕੈ ਮਾਇਆ ॥
aagai moh na chookai maa-i-aa.
the love for materialism never ends in his journey of life.
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਨ-ਸਫ਼ਰ ਵਿਚ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ (ਕਦੇ) ਨਹੀਂ ਮੁੱਕਦਾ।
ਅਗੈ ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ਲੇਖਾ ਲੇਵੈ ਜਿਉ ਤਿਲ ਘਾਣੀ ਪੀੜਾਇਦਾ ॥੯॥
agai jamkaal laykhaa layvai ji-o til ghaanee peerhaa-idaa. ||9||
In the world hereafter, when the demon of death calls him to account for his deeds, then he is punished, as if he is being crushed like sesame seeds. ||9||
ਜਦੋਂ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਧਰਮ ਰਾਜ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਚ ਕੀਤੇ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਹਿਸਾਬ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਇਉਂ) ਪੀੜਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕੋਲ੍ਹੂ ਵਿਚ ਤਿਲ ॥੯॥
ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਹੋਈ ॥
poorai bhaag gur sayvaa ho-ee.
It is only through perfect destiny that one follows the Guru’s teachings and remembers God with adoration.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ (ਨਾਮ-ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ) ਕਾਰ ਵੱਡੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਨਾਲ (ਹੀ ਕਿਸੇ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਤਾ ਸੇਵੇ ਕੋਈ ॥
nadar karay taa sayvay ko-ee.
When God bestows gracious glance, only then one is able to follow the Guru’s teachings and remember God.
ਜਦੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਨੇੜਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਮਹਲਿ ਸਚੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੦॥
jamkaal tis nayrh na aavai mahal sachai sukh paa-idaa. ||10||
The fear of death does not come near that person and he always enjoys spiritual bliss in God’s presence. ||10||
ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੀ। ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੦॥
ਤਿਨ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਏ ॥
tin sukh paa-i-aa jo tuDh bhaa-ay.
O’ God, only those who are pleasing to You, have received inner peace.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗੇ ਲੱਗੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਿਆ।
ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਲਾਏ ॥
poorai bhaag gur sayvaa laa-ay.
It must be their perfect destiny, that You made them to follow the Guru’s teachings.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਵੱਡੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਕਾਰੇ ਲਾਈ ਰਖਿਆ।
ਤੇਰੈ ਹਥਿ ਹੈ ਸਭ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਜਿਸੁ ਦੇਵਹਿ ਸੋ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੧॥
tayrai hath hai sabh vadi-aa-ee jis dayveh so paa-idaa. ||11||
O’ God, all the glory, both here and hereafter, is in Your control; but that person alone receives it, to whom You give. ||11||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਸਾਰੀ (ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਦੀ) ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਤੇਰੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ (ਇਹ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ) ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੧॥
ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੇ ਪਾਏ ॥
andar pargaas guroo tay paa-ay.
One receives spiritual enlightenment from the Guru,
ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਨਾਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥
naam padaarath man vasaa-ay.
and enshrines the wealth of Naam in the mind.
ਅਤੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦੌਲਤ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗਿਆਨ ਰਤਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਘਟਿ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਅਗਿਆਨ ਅੰਧੇਰੁ ਗਵਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੨॥
gi-aan ratan sadaa ghat chaanan agi-aan anDhayr gavaa-idaa. ||12||
The jewel-like precious spiritual wisdom enlightens his heart, and he dispels the darkness of spiritual ignorance. ||12||
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਦਾ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਚਾਨਣ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਬੇ-ਸਮਝੀ ਦਾ ਹਨੇਰਾ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੨॥
ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਅੰਧੇ ਦੂਜੈ ਲਾਗੇ ॥
agi-aanee anDhay doojai laagay.
Blinded by materialism, the spiritually ignorant people remain attached to duality.
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਹੋ ਚੁਕੇ ਤੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਤੋਂ ਬੇ-ਸਮਝ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ) ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਬਿਨੁ ਪਾਣੀ ਡੁਬਿ ਮੂਏ ਅਭਾਗੇ ॥
bin paanee dub moo-ay abhaagay.
These unfortunate people spiritually deteriorate as if they have died by drowning in the vices instead of water.
ਉਹ ਬਦ-ਕਿਸਮਤ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਾਣੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ) ਡੁੱਬ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤੇ ਮਰ ਗਏ ਹਨ।
ਚਲਦਿਆ ਘਰੁ ਦਰੁ ਨਦਰਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਜਮ ਦਰਿ ਬਾਧਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੩॥
chaldi-aa ghar dar nadar na aavai jam dar baaDhaa dukh paa-idaa. ||13||
While going through the life’s journey, one who does not think about the divine home remains in the fear of death and endures misery. ||13||
ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੇ ਸਫ਼ਰ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਂ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਅਸਲੀ ਘਰ-ਬਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ। ਉਹ ਜਮਰਾਜ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਬੱਝਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੩॥
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
bin satgur sayvay mukat na ho-ee.
Liberation from vices is not attained without following the Guru’s teachings,
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ,
ਗਿਆਨੀ ਧਿਆਨੀ ਪੂਛਹੁ ਕੋਈ ॥
gi-aanee Dhi-aanee poochhahu ko-ee.
let anyone inquire from people who are spiritually wise and practice meditation.
ਬੇਸ਼ੱਕ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਬੇਤਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਬਿਰਤੀ ਜੋੜਨ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਪਤਾ ਕਰ ਵੇਖੇ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੪॥
satgur sayvay tis milai vadi-aa-ee dar sachai sobhaa paa-idaa. ||14||
One who follows the true Guru’s teachings is honored here and in the eternal God’s presence. ||14||
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਦੀ) ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਆਦਰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੪॥
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨੋ ਸੇਵੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥
satgur no sayvay tis aap milaa-ay.
One who follows the Guru’s teachings, God Himself unites that person with Him.
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ (ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਮਿਲਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਮਤਾ ਕਾਟਿ ਸਚਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਏ ॥
mamtaa kaat sach liv laa-ay.
Because such a person remains focused on the eternal God by cutting away his bonds of love for worldly attachment.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਮਾਇਕ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਬਜ਼ੇ ਦੀ ਲਾਲਸਾ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਦਾ ਸਚੁ ਵਣਜਹਿ ਵਾਪਾਰੀ ਨਾਮੋ ਲਾਹਾ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੫॥
sadaa sach vanjahi vaapaaree naamo laahaa paa-idaa. ||15||
Those human beings who always remember the eternal God’s Name, receive the reward of Naam. ||15||
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਵਣਜਾਰੇ-ਜੀਵ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਵਣਜ ਸਦਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹਰੀ-ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਲਾਭ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੫॥
ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ਕਰਤਾ ॥
aapay karay karaa-ay kartaa.
The Creator Himself does everything and gets everything done
ਕਰਤਾਰ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਸਭ ਕੁਝ) ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਕਰਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰੈ ਸੋਈ ਜਨੁ ਮੁਕਤਾ ॥
sabad marai so-ee jan muktaa.
He alone is liberated from vices, who controls his ego through the Guru’s word.
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਤਿਆਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਸੁਤੰਤਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਮੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਦਾ ॥੧੬॥੫॥੧੯॥
naanak naam vasai man antar naamo naam Dhi-aa-idaa. ||16||5||19||
O’ Nanak, God’s Name remains enshrined in the mind of a person who always lovingly remembers God’s Name. ||16||5||19||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੬॥੫॥੧੯॥
ਮਾਰੂ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥

Raag Maaroo, Third Guru:
ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਕਰਣਾ ਸੋ ਕਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
jo tuDh karnaa so kar paa-i-aa.
O’ God! You always do what You want to do.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਹੜਾ ਕੰਮ ਤੂੰ ਕਰਨਾ (ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ) ਹੈਂ, ਉਹ ਕੰਮ ਤੂੰ ਜ਼ਰੂਰ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ,
ਭਾਣੇ ਵਿਚਿ ਕੋ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਆਇਆ ॥
bhaanay vich ko virlaa aa-i-aa.
But only a rare person cheerfully accepts Your will.
ਪਰ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੰਨਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਭਾਣਾ ਮੰਨੇ ਸੋ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ਭਾਣੇ ਵਿਚਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧॥
bhaanaa mannay so sukh paa-ay bhaanay vich sukh paa-idaa. ||1||
One who happily accepts God’s will receives inner peace; spiritual bliss is received only by accepting God’s will. ||1||
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਰ-ਮੱਥੇ ਤੇ ਮੰਨਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਸੁਖ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ; ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੀ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ। ॥੧॥
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਤੇਰਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਭਾਵੈ ॥
gurmukh tayraa bhaanaa bhaavai.
O’ God! Your will is always pleasing to the Guru’s follower,
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਚੰਗੀ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਸਹਜੇ ਹੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥
sehjay hee sukh sach kamaavai.
he lovingly remembers God, remains in spiritual poise and enjoys inner peace.
ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਕਮਾਈ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਭਾਣੇ ਨੋ ਲੋਚੈ ਬਹੁਤੇਰੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਆਪਿ ਮਨਾਇਦਾ ॥੨॥
bhaanay no lochai bahutayree aapnaa bhaanaa aap manaa-idaa. ||2||
Even though much of the world wishes to accept God’s will, but He Himself inspires (a rare fortunate one) to accept His will. ||2||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਨੂੰ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਮੰਨਣ ਦੀ ਤਾਂਘ ਬਥੇਰੀ ਲੁਕਾਈ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਆਪਣੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਕਿਸੇ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਤੋਂ) ਮਨਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਤੇਰਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਮੰਨੇ ਸੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤੁਧੁ ਆਏ ॥
tayraa bhaanaa mannay so milai tuDh aa-ay.
O’ God, one who delightedly accepts Your will, is united with You.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਮੰਨਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਆ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
