Raag Maalee Gauraa, Fourth Guru:
ਸਭਿ ਸਿਧ ਸਾਧਿਕ ਮੁਨਿ ਜਨਾ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਵਨੀ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਇਓ ॥
sabh siDh saaDhik mun janaa man bhaavnee har Dhi-aa-i-o.
All the adepts, seekers, and munis (holy persons) who meditated on God with full faith and love in their hearts
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਸਿੱਧਾਂ ਨੇ, ਸਾਧਿਕਾਂ ਨੇ, ਮੁਨੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ (ਗੁਰੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਸਰਧਾ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਾਰਿਆ,
ਅਪਰੰਪਰੋ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹਰਿ ਅਲਖੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਲਖਾਇਓ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
aprampro paarbarahm su-aamee har alakh guroo lakhaa-i-o. ||1|| rahaa-o.
the Guru helped them realize the indescribable and infinite God residing within them. ||1||Pause||
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਅਲੱਖ ਹਰੀ ਉਸ ਅਪਰੰਪਰ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਸੁਆਮੀ (ਅੰਦਰ-ਵੱਸਦਾ) ਵਿਖਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਹਮ ਨੀਚ ਮਧਿਮ ਕਰਮ ਕੀਏ ਨਹੀ ਚੇਤਿਓ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇਓ ॥
ham neech maDhim karam kee-ay nahee chayti-o har raa-i-o.
We mortals keep doing low and trivial deeds, and do not remember God, the sovereign king.
ਅਸੀਂ ਜੀਵ ਨੀਵੇਂ ਤੇ ਹੌਲੇ ਮੇਲ ਦੇ ਕੰਮ ਹੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਾਂ, ਕਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ।
ਹਰਿ ਆਨਿ ਮੇਲਿਓ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਖਿਨੁ ਬੰਧ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਕਰਾਇਓ ॥੧॥
har aan mayli-o satguroo khin banDh mukat karaa-i-o. ||1||
One whom God united with the true Guru, the Guru instantly freed him from the bonds of Maya, the worldly riches and power. ||1||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਖਿਨ ਵਿਚ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਦਿਵਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ॥੧॥
ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਮਸਤਕੇ ਧੁਰਿ ਲੀਖਿਆ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਹਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇਓ ॥
parabh mastakay Dhur leekhi-aa gurmatee har liv laa-i-o.
One whom God had predestined (union with the Guru), he got attuned to Him (God) by following the Guru’s teachings;
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ (ਗੁਰੂ-ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦਾ) ਲੇਖ ਲਿਖ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮੱਤ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤ ਜੋੜ ਲਈ;
ਪੰਚ ਸਬਦ ਦਰਗਹ ਬਾਜਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਓ ਮੰਗਲੁ ਗਾਇਓ ॥੨॥
panch sabad dargeh baaji-aa har mili-o mangal gaa-i-o. ||2||
he always keeps singing the praises of God in Whose presence is vibrating the non stop divine melody as if five five musical instruments are playing. ||2||
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਗੀਤ ਹੀ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਪੰਜਾਂ ਕਿਸਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਜ਼ਾਂ ਦਾ ਰਾਗ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ , ॥੨॥
ਪਤਿਤ ਪਾਵਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਰਹਰਿ ਮੰਦਭਾਗੀਆਂ ਨਹੀ ਭਾਇਓ ॥
patit paavan naam narhar mand-bhaagee-aaN nahee bhaa-i-o.
God’s Name is the purifier of sinners, but God’s Name is not pleasing to the unfortunate ones.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਬਦ-ਕਿਸਮਤ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਦਾ।
ਤੇ ਗਰਭ ਜੋਨੀ ਗਾਲੀਅਹਿ ਜਿਉ ਲੋਨੁ ਜਲਹਿ ਗਲਾਇਓ ॥੩॥
tay garabh jonee gaalee-ah ji-o lon jaleh galaa-i-o. ||3||
Just as salt gets consumed in water, similarly these unfortunate people spiritually deteriorate by going through cycles of birth and death. ||3||
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਲੂਣ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਗਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਉਹ ਮੰਦ-ਭਾਗੀ ਬੰਦੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਗਲਸੜ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੩॥
ਮਤਿ ਦੇਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅਗਮ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਨ ਮਨੁ ਮੈ ਲਾਇਓ ॥
mat deh har parabh agam thaakur gur charan man mai laa-i-o.
O’ the incomprehensible Master-God, bless me with such wisdom that I may remain focused on the Guru’s immaculate words.
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਹੇ ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਅਜਿਹੀ ਮੱਤ ਦੇਹ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਾਂ,
ਹਰਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੈ ਰਹਉ ਲਾਗੋ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇਓ ॥੪॥੩॥
har raam naamai raha-o laago jan naanak naam samaa-i-o. ||4||3||
O’ devotee Nanak, pray that I may remain attuned to God’s Name; yes, I may remain absorbed in Naam. ||4||3||
ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਰਹਾਂ, ਮੈਂ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਾਂ ॥੪॥੩॥

Raag Maalee Gauraa, Fourth Guru:
ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਸਿ ਲਾਗਾ ॥
mayraa man raam naam ras laagaa.Na
My mind now remains focused on the relish of God’s Name.
ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਦ ਵਿਚ ਮਗਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਮਲ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੁ ਭਇਆ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿਓ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਭਉ ਭਾਗਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kamal pargaas bha-i-aa gur paa-i-aa har japi-o bharam bha-o bhaagaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
I am united with the Guru, My lotus-like heart has blossomed; by meditating on God, my doubts and fear have fled away.
ਮੈਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਕੌਲ ਫੁੱਲ ਦਾ ਖਿੜਾਉ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ, ਤੇ (ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਹਰੇਕ ਕਿਸਮ ਦੀ ਭਟਕਣ ਹਰੇਕ ਕਿਸਮ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਭੈ ਭਾਇ ਭਗਤਿ ਲਾਗੋ ਮੇਰਾ ਹੀਅਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਸੋਇਓ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਜਾਗਾ ॥
bhai bhaa-ay bhagat laago mayraa hee-araa man so-i-o gurmat jaagaa.
By following the Guru’s teaching, my ignorant mind is spiritually awakened, and now I remain engaged in the worship of God with love and respect in my heart.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮੱਤ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਰਾ ਸੁੱਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਮਨ ਜਾਗ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰਾ ਹਿਰਦਾ ਅਦਬ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਖੀਨ ਭਏ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਆਈ ਹਰਿ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿਓ ਵਡਭਾਗਾ ॥੧॥
kilbikh kheen bha-ay saaNt aa-ee har ur Dhaari-o vadbhaagaa. ||1||
By good fortune, I have enshrined God in my mind; all my sins have been destroyed and my mind is at peace. ||1||
ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਹੁਣ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਪ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਠੰਢ ਵਰਤ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਰੰਗੁ ਕਸੁੰਭੁ ਹੈ ਕਚੂਆ ਜਿਉ ਕੁਸਮ ਚਾਰਿ ਦਿਨ ਚਾਗਾ ॥
manmukh rang kasumbh hai ka.choo-aa ji-o kusam chaar din chaagaa.
The glory of a self-willed person is short lived like the color of safflower that fades in a few days.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਕੁਸੁੰਭੇ ਫੁਲ ਦੇ ਰੰਗ ਵਰਗਾ ਕੱਚਾ ਹੈ,ਕਸੁੰਭੇ ਦੇ ਫੁੱਲ ਦਾ ਰੰਗ ਚਾਰ ਦਿਨ ਹੀ ਚੰਗਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਬਿਨਸਿ ਜਾਇ ਪਰਤਾਪੈ ਡੰਡੁ ਧਰਮ ਰਾਇ ਕਾ ਲਾਗਾ ॥੨॥
khin meh binas jaa-ay partaapai dand Dharam raa-ay kaa laagaa. ||2||
His worldly pleasures vanish in an instant, He is tormented by the fear of punishment by the righteous judge. ||2||
(ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਸੁਖ ਇਕ ਖਿਨ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ (ਸਦਾ) ਦੁਖੀ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਿਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਧਰਮਰਾਜ ਦਾ ਡੰਡਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਸਾਧ ਅਤਿ ਗੂੜੀ ਜਿਉ ਰੰਗੁ ਮਜੀਠ ਬਹੁ ਲਾਗਾ ॥
satsangat pareet saaDh at goorhee ji-o rang majeeth baho laagaa.
By remaining in a holy congregation, one acquires a very deep and lasting love for the Guru’s teachings, which is like the color of a permanent dye.
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਬਹੁਤ ਗੂੜ੍ਹਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ ,ਉਹ ਪਿਆਰ ਇਉਂ ਹੀ ਪੱਕਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਮਜੀਠ ਦਾ ਰੰਗ l
ਕਾਇਆ ਕਾਪਰੁ ਚੀਰ ਬਹੁ ਫਾਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਨ ਲਹੈ ਸਭਾਗਾ ॥੩॥
kaa-i-aa kaapar cheer baho faaray har rang na lahai sabhaagaa. ||3||
Just as the color of dye does not fade, even when clothes wear out; similarly the human body may perish, but the mind’s love for God never fades. ||3||
ਜਿਂਵੇ ਮਜੀਠ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਕੱਪੜੇ ਪਾਟ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਜਾਣ ਪਰ ਰੰਗ ਨਹੀਂ ਉਤਰਦਾ।ਤਿਂਵੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਨਾਸ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਹੋ ਜਾਏ, ਪਰ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਰੰਗ ਨਹੀਂ ਉਤਰਦਾ ॥੩॥
ਹਰਿ ਚਾਰ੍ਹਿਓ ਰੰਗੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਗੁਰੁ ਸੋਭਾ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਚਲੂਲੈ ਰਾਂਗਾ ॥
har chaarHi-o rang milai gur sobhaa har rang chaloolai raaNgaa.
One who meets the Guru and follows his teachings, the Guru imbues him with God’s love; yes, he remains imbued with the deep love of God and earns glory.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਰੰਗ ਚਾੜ੍ਹ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਗੂੜ੍ਹੇ ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਉਹ) ਸੋਭਾ (ਖੱਟਦਾ ਹੈ)।
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਚਰਨ ਪਖਾਰੈ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਨੀ ਜਨੁ ਲਾਗਾ ॥੪॥੪॥
jan naanak tin kay charan pakhaarai jo har charnee jan laagaa. ||4||4||
Devotee Nanak bows in humility and serves those who have devoted their lives to serving God. ||4||4||
ਜੋ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ, ਉਸ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਦੇ ਪੈਰ ਧੋਦਾਂ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੪॥

Raag Maalee Gauraa, Fourth Guru:
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਭਜੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਗੁਪਾਲਾ ॥
mayray man bhaj har har naam gupaalaa.
O’ my mind, lovingly meditate on the Name of God, who looks after his creation.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਪਾਲਣਹਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਦਾ ਜਪਿਆ ਕਰ।
ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਲੀਨੁ ਭਇਆ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੈ ਮਤਿ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਰਾਮ ਰਸਾਲਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
mayraa man tan leen bha-i-aa raam naamai mat gurmat raam rasaalaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
(By meditating on God’s Name), my body and mind are immersed in God’s name, my intellect is focused on the Guru’s teaching and I am imbued with the love of God, the treasure of all nectars. ||1||Pause||
(ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ) ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਮੇਰਾ ਤਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਗਇਆ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰੀ ਮੱਤ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮੱਤ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸਾਰੇ ਰਸਾਂ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਦਿੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਜਪੀਐ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਮਾਲਾ ॥
gurmat naam Dhi-aa-ee-ai har har man japee-ai har japmaalaa.
We should lovingly remember God’s Name by following the Guru’s teachings; we should meditate on God’s Name in our mind, as if we are using the rosary.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮੱਤ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਜਾਪ ਜਪਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ ਕੈ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਲੀਖਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਬਨਮਾਲਾ ॥੧॥
jinH kai mastak leekhi-aa har mili-aa har banmaalaa. ||1||
But only those, who are predestined, realize God, adorned by His creation. ||1||
ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ (ਹੀ) ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਇਹ ਲੇਖ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ ਚੂਕੇ ਸਰਬ ਜੰਜਾਲਾ ॥
jinH har naam Dhi-aa-i-aa tinH chookay sarab janjaalaa.
Those who meditated on God’s Name, all their worldly entanglements ended.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਮਾਇਕ ਬੰਧਨ ਮੁੱਕ ਗਏ।
ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ ਜਮੁ ਨੇੜਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਗੁਰਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਹਰਿ ਰਖਵਾਲਾ ॥੨॥
tinH jam nayrh na aavee gur raakhay har rakhvaalaa. ||2||
The demon (fear) of death does not come near them, the Guru has saved them from vices; actually God Himself has become their savior. ||2||
ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਦੂਤ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਲਾਗੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਫਟਕਦਾ, ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਚਾ ਲਿਆ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਆਪ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ) ਰਾਖਾ ਬਣਿਆ ॥੨॥
ਹਮ ਬਾਰਿਕ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਣਹੂ ਹਰਿ ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਾ ॥
ham baarik kichhoo na jaanhoo har maat pitaa partipaalaa.
We human beings are like children who do not know what is good or bad for us, but God takes care of us like our father and mother.
ਅਸੀਂ ਜੀਵ ਤਾਂ ਬੱਚੇ ਹਾਂ (ਅਸੀਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਹਾਣ ਲਾਭ) ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਦੇ; ਪਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਾਪਿਆਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਸਾਡੀ ਪਾਲਣਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਰੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਅਗਨਿ ਨਿਤ ਮੇਲਤੇ ਗੁਰਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥੩॥
kar maa-i-aa agan nit mayltay gur raakhay deen da-i-aalaa. ||3||
In our hunger for worldly wealth, we constantly play with fire of worldly desires; the Guru, the merciful protector of the meek, saves us. ||3||
ਅਸੀਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਵਿਚ ਹੱਥ ਪਾਂਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਾਂ (ਮਨ ਫਸਾਂਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਾਂ), ਪਰ ਦੀਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਸਦਾ ਸਾਡੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਬਹੁ ਮੈਲੇ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਹੋਇਆ ਸਭ ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਹਰਿ ਜਸਿ ਜਾਲਾ ॥
baho mailay nirmal ho-i-aa sabh kilbikh har jas jaalaa.
(O’ brother), many sinners have become immaculate by meditating on Naam; singing God’s praises has burnt down all their sins.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ) (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ) ਬੜੇ ਵਿਕਾਰੀ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ; ਹਰੀ-ਜਸ ਨੇ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ) ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਪ ਸਾੜ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ।
ਮਨਿ ਅਨਦੁ ਭਇਆ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਿਹਾਲਾ ॥੪॥੫॥
man anad bha-i-aa gur paa-i-aa jan naanak sabad nihaalaa. ||4||5||
O’ devotee Nanak! bliss welled up in the mind of a person who met the Guru and became delighted through the Guru’s divine word. ||4||5||
ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆਨੰਦ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉਹ ਨਿਹਾਲ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ॥੪॥੫॥
