Raag Maalee Gauraa, Fourth Guru:
ਰਾਗ ਮਾਲੀ-ਗਉੜਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਰਾਮਦਾਸ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ।
ੴ ਸਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ ਅਕਾਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਅਜੂਨੀ ਸੈਭੰ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik-oNkaar sat naam kartaa purakh nirbha-o nirvair akaal moorat ajoonee saibhaN gur parsaad.
There is only one God whose Name is ‘of eternal existence’. He is the creator of the universe, all-pervading, without fear, without enmity, independent of time, beyond the cycle of birth and death and self revealed. He is realized by the Guru’s grace.
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ‘ਹੋਂਦ ਵਾਲਾ’ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦਾ ਰਚਨਹਾਰ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਸਭ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ, ਭੈ ਤੋਂ ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈ, ਵੈਰ-ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਸਰੂਪ ਕਾਲ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੈ, (ਭਾਵ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਨਾਸ-ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈ), ਜੋ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਤੋਂ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਜੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅਨਿਕ ਜਤਨ ਕਰਿ ਰਹੇ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਤੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
anik jatan kar rahay har ant naahee paa-i-aa.
O’ God, countless human beings have exhausted themselves, but no one could find the limit of your virtus.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ! (ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਲੱਭਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਜੀਵ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜਤਨ ਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਥੱਕ ਗਏ ਹਨ, ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭਾ।
ਹਰਿ ਅਗਮ ਅਗਮ ਅਗਾਧਿ ਬੋਧਿ ਆਦੇਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਰਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
har agam agam agaaDh boDh aadays har parabh raa-i-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O’ imperceptible, incomprehensible and unfathomable God, the sovereign king, I humbly bow to You. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਤੂੰ ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਅਥਾਹ ਹੈਂ, ਤੈਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝ ਸਕਦਾ, ਮੇਰੀ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਨਮਸਕਾਰ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਲੋਭੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਨਿਤ ਝਗਰਤੇ ਝਗਰਾਇਆ ॥
kaam kroDh lobh moh nit jhagratay jhagraa-i-aa.
Provoked by lust, anger, greed, emotional attachment, people remain always involved in conflict and strife.
ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਲੋਭ ਮੋਹ ਆਦਿਕ ਵਿਕਾਰਾ ਦੇ ਉਕਸਾਏ ਹੋਏ ਜੀਵ ਸਦਾ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਝਗੜਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਹਮ ਰਾਖੁ ਰਾਖੁ ਦੀਨ ਤੇਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਸਰਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਆਇਆ ॥੧॥
ham raakh raakh deen tayray har saran har parabh aa-i-aa. ||1||
O’ God! we are Your helpless beings; we have come to Your refuge, please save us from these evils. ||1||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਅਸੀਂ ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਦੇ ਮੰਗਤੇ ਹਾਂ, ਸਾਨੂੰ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾ ਲੈ, ਬਚਾ ਲੈ, ਅਸੀਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਏ ਹਾਂ ॥੧॥
ਸਰਣਾਗਤੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪਾਲਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਵਛਲੁ ਨਾਇਆ ॥
sarnaagatee parabh paaltay har bhagat vachhal naa-i-aa.
O’ God! You protect those who take to Your refuge; You are known as the lover of devotional worship.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ, ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ‘ਭਗਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ’-ਇਹ ਤੇਰਾ (ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧ) ਨਾਮ ਹੈ।
ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦੁ ਜਨੁ ਹਰਨਾਖਿ ਪਕਰਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖਿ ਲੀਓ ਤਰਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
par-hilaad jan harnaakh pakri-aa har raakh lee-o taraa-i-aa. ||2||
When Your devotee Prehlaad was caught by the demon Harnakash, O’ God! You protected and ferried him across the worldly ocean of vices. ||2||
ਤੇਰੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ ਨੂੰ ਹਰਨਾਖਸ਼ ਨੇ ਫੜ ਲਿਆ, ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਤੂੰ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕੀਤੀ, ਤੂੰ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਸਾਗਰ ਤੋ ਪਾਰ ਕਰ ਦਿਤਾ ॥੨॥
ਹਰਿ ਚੇਤਿ ਰੇ ਮਨ ਮਹਲੁ ਪਾਵਣ ਸਭ ਦੂਖ ਭੰਜਨੁ ਰਾਇਆ ॥
har chayt ray man mahal paavan sabh dookh bhanjan raa-i-aa.
O’ my mind! to find a place in God’s presence, always lovingly remember that sovereign king, the destroyer of all sorrows.
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਸਦਾ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰ, ਉਹ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਭਉ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਨਿਵਾਰਿ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
bha-o janam maran nivaar thaakur har gurmatee parabh paa-i-aa. ||3||
The Master-God, the destroyer of the fear of birth and death, is realized only by following the Guru’s teachings. ||3||
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਭਉ ਨੂੰ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾਮਾਲਕ-ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ, ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਪਤਿਤ ਪਾਵਨ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਭਉ ਭਗਤ ਭੰਜਨੁ ਗਾਇਆ ॥
har patit paavan naam su-aamee bha-o bhagat bhanjan gaa-i-aa.
O’ God! Your Name is the purifier of sinners; O’ God! You are the destroyer of all fears of the devotees who have sung Your praise.
ਹੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ! ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ; ਹੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਨੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ ਤੂੰ ਉਹਨਾ ਦਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਡਰ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਹਰਿ ਹਾਰੁ ਹਰਿ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰਿਓ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੧॥
har haar har ur Dhaari-o jan naanak naam samaa-i-aa. ||4||1||
O’ Nanak! those who have firmly enshrined God’s Name in their heart, they always remain merged in Naam. ||4||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ!, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਹਾਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਂਭਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੪॥੧॥

Raag Maalee Gauraa, Fourth Guru:
ਜਪਿ ਮਨ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ॥
jap man raam naam sukh-daata.
O’ my mind, meditate on the Name of God, the giver of celestial peace.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆ ਕਰ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਾਦੁ ਆਇਆ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਪਛਾਤਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
satsangat mil har saad aa-i-aa gurmukh barahm pachhaataa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
One who enjoyed the elixir of God’s Name in the holy congregation, he realized God by the Guru’s grace. ||1||Pause||
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਹਾਸਲ ਕੀਤਾ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ ਲਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਗੁਰ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਤਾ ॥
vadbhaagee gur darsan paa-i-aa gur mili-ai har parabh jaataa.
Only someone very fortunate person has experienced the glimpse of the Guru; one comes to realize God only by meeting the Guru.
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਕਿਸੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਨੇ ਹੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਰਸਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ, (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ ਤਾਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਗਈ ਸਭ ਨੀਕਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਰਿ ਨਾਤਾ ॥੧॥
durmat mail ga-ee sabh neekar har amrit har sar naataa. ||1||
In the company of the saints, all one’s dirt of evil intellect is washed off and he feels as if he has bathed in the pool of ambrosial nectar of Naam. ||1||
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ ਦੇ ਸਰੋਵਰ ਵਿਚ (ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ) ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਭੈੜੀ ਮੱਤ ਦੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਮੈਲ ਨਿਕਲ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਧਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਸਾਧ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਪੂਛਉ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਬਾਤਾ ॥
Dhan Dhan saaDh jinHee har parabh paa-i-aa tinH poochha-o har kee baataa.
Extremely blessed are those saints who have attained union with God; I ask them to talk to me about union with God.
ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਸੰਤ ਜਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ। ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਪੁੱਛਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਪਾਇ ਲਗਉ ਨਿਤ ਕਰਉ ਜੁਦਰੀਆ ਹਰਿ ਮੇਲਹੁ ਕਰਮਿ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ॥੨॥
paa-ay laga-o nit kara-o judree-aa har maylhu karam biDhaataa. ||2||
I humbly bow and always pray to them, that bestowing mercy they unite me with the Creator-God. ||2||
ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨੀਂ ਲੱਗਾਂ, ਮੈਂ ਨਿੱਤ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਅੱਗੇ ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈ ਕਰਾਂ ਕਿ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਕਰਾ ਦਿਉ ॥੨॥
ਲਿਲਾਟ ਲਿਖੇ ਪਾਇਆ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਾਧੂ ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨੀ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਰਾਤਾ ॥
lilaat likhay paa-i-aa gur saaDhoo gur bachnee man tan raataa.
One who has met the Saint-Guru as per his preordained destiny, his mind and body gets imbued with the Guru’s word.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਦੇ ਲਿਖੇ ਲੇਖਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਹਾਂ ਪੁਰਖ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਤਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਬਚਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਆਇ ਮਿਲੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਭ ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਪਾਪ ਗਵਾਤਾ ॥੩॥
har parabh aa-ay milay sukh paa-i-aa sabh kilvikh paap gavaataa. ||3||
God manifests in his mind, he attains celestial peace and all his sins vanish. ||3||
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਪ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੩॥
ਰਾਮ ਰਸਾਇਣੁ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਕੀ ਊਤਮ ਬਾਤਾ ॥
raam rasaa-in jinH gurmat paa-i-aa tinH kee ootam baataa.
Those who have received the sublime elixir of God’s Name by following the Guru’s teachings, they are honored everywhere.
3ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮੱਤ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ (ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ) ਬਹੁਤ ਸੋਭਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ;
ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਪੰਕ ਪਾਈਐ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਚਰਨਿ ਪਰਾਤਾ ॥੪॥੨॥
tin kee pank paa-ee-ai vadbhaagee jan naanak charan paraataa. ||4||2||
The opportunity to humbly serve them is received by great good fortune, Nanak also respectfully bow to those devotees. ||4||2||
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ। ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ (ਭੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ) ਚਰਨੀਂ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੨॥
