ਸੁੰਦਰੁ ਸੁਘੜੁ ਸੁਜਾਣੁ ਬੇਤਾ ਗੁਣ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਅਮੁਲਿਆ ॥
sundar sugharh sujaan baytaa gun govind amuli-aa.
The Master-God of the universe is beautiful, wise and omniscient; His virtues are priceless.
ਹੇ ਸਹੇਲੀਏ! ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਹੈ,, ਸੁਜਾਨ ਹੈ,ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਕਿਸੇ ਮੁੱਲ ਤੋਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦੇ।
ਵਡਭਾਗਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਦੁਖੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਭਈ ਪੂਰਨ ਆਸ ਜੀਉ ॥
vadbhaag paa-i-aa dukh gavaa-i-aa bha-ee pooran aas jee-o.
By good fortune one who has realized God, he has eradicated his sorrows and all his desires get fulfilled.
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਚੰਗੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਆਸ ਪੂਰੀ ਹੋ ਗਈ।
ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਣਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਮਿਟੀ ਜਮ ਕੀ ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥
binvant naanak saran tayree mitee jam kee taraas jee-o. ||2||
Nanak submits, O’ God whoever has come to Your refuge, his fear of death is eradicated. ||2||
ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਹੜਾ ਭੀ ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆ ਗਿਆ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦਿਲੋਂ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਸਹਿਮ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ॥੨॥

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਮੁਈ ਕਰਤੀ ਕਰਮ ਅਨੇਕ ॥
saaDhsangat bin bharam mu-ee kartee karam anayk.
Without the benefit of the company of the saints, one keeps doing various ritualistic deeds, wanders in illusions of Maya and spiritually deteriorates.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਤੋਂ ਵਾਂਜੀ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੋਈ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ) ਭਟਕ ਭਟਕ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਸਹੇੜ ਲੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਕੋਮਲ ਬੰਧਨ ਬਾਧੀਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਰਮਹਿ ਲੇਖ ॥੧॥
komal banDhan baaDhee-aa naanak karmeh laykh. ||1||
O’ Nanak, in accordance with the writ of the past deeds, one remains bound in the worldly bonds. ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਪਣੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਸਕਾਰਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਉਹ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਕੋਮਲ ਫਾਹੀਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਬੱਝੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਜੋ ਭਾਣੇ ਸੇ ਮੇਲਿਆ ਵਿਛੋੜੇ ਭੀ ਆਪਿ ॥
jo bhaanay say mayli-aa vichhorhay bhee aap.
Those who are pleasing to God, He unites them with Himself and He separates others from Himself.
ਜਿਹੜੇ ਜੀਵ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗੇ ਲੱਗਣ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਵਿਛੋੜਦਾ ਭੀ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਰਣਾਗਤੀ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਵਡ ਪਰਤਾਪੁ ॥੨॥
naanak parabh sarnaagatee jaa kaa vad partaap. ||2||
O’ Nanak! we should remain in the refuge of God whose glory is great. ||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ!) ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਏ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਵੱਡਾ ਤੇਜ-ਪਰਤਾਪ ਹੈ ॥੨॥

ਗ੍ਰੀਖਮ ਰੁਤਿ ਅਤਿ ਗਾਖੜੀ ਜੇਠ ਅਖਾੜੈ ਘਾਮ ਜੀਉ ॥
gareekham rut at gaakh-rhee jayth akhaarhai ghaam jee-o.
Just as the summer season is very agonizing for beings because of intense heat and humidity during the months of Jeth and Assaarh (May-June):
(ਹੇ ਸਹੇਲੀਏ!) ਜਿਵੇਂ ਗਰਮੀ ਦੀ ਰੁੱਤ ਬੜੀ ਕਰੜੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜੇਠ ਹਾੜ ਵਿਚ ਬੜੀ ਧੁੱਪ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ
ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਬਿਛੋਹੁ ਦੁਹਾਗਣੀ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਨ ਕਰੀ ਰਾਮ ਜੀਉ ॥
paraym bichhohu duhaaganee darisat na karee raam jee-o.
Similarly an unfortunate soul-bride, on whom the Husband-God does not cast His soothing glance, endures agony because of lack of His love.
(ਤਿਵੇਂ, ਜਿਸ) ਮੰਦੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਵਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦੀ ਅਣਹੋਂਦ ਸਾੜਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਨਹ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਆਵੈ ਮਰਤ ਹਾਵੈ ਮਹਾ ਗਾਰਬਿ ਮੁਠੀਆ ॥
nah darisat aavai marat haavai mahaa gaarab muthee-aa.
She has been plundered of her virtues by her enormous ego, she does not perceive her Husband-God, and she spiritually deteriorates in agony.
ਉਹ ਪਰਮ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਲੁਟਾ ਬੈਠੀ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ, ਉਹ ਹਾਹੁਕੇ ਲੈ ਲੈ ਮਰਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ।
ਜਲ ਬਾਝੁ ਮਛੁਲੀ ਤੜਫੜਾਵੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਰੁਠੀਆ ॥
jal baajh machhulee tarhfarhaavai sang maa-i-aa ruthee-aa.
Being engrossed in the love for Maya, the worldly riches and power, she remains alienated from God and flutters around like a fish out of water.
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੀ ਹੋਈ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਵਲੋਂ ਰੁੱਸੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਇਉਂ ਤੜਫਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪਾਣੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੱਛੀ ਤੜਫਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਕਰਿ ਪਾਪ ਜੋਨੀ ਭੈ ਭੀਤ ਹੋਈ ਦੇਇ ਸਾਸਨ ਜਾਮ ਜੀਉ ॥
kar paap jonee bhai bheet ho-ee day-ay saasan jaam jee-o.
Because of sins committed by her, she is fearful of reincarnations; the demon of death will surely punish her.
ਪਾਪ ਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਜੂਨੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪੈਣ ਦੇ ਡਰ ਨਾਲ ਘਾਬਰੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਜਮਰਾਜ ਸਦਾ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਓਟ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਾਖੁ ਪੂਰਨ ਕਾਮ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥
binvant naanak ot tayree raakh pooran kaam jee-o. ||3||
Nanak submits: O’ the fulfiller of desires, I have sought Your refuge; please protect me. ||3||
ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ-ਹੇ ਸਭ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਾਮਨਾ ਪੂਰੀਆਂ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖ ॥੩॥

ਸਰਧਾ ਲਾਗੀ ਸੰਗਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੈ ਇਕੁ ਤਿਲੁ ਰਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
sarDhaa laagee sang pareetamai ik til rahan na jaa-ay.
The soul-bride who is imbued with loving devotion for her beloved-God, she cannot spiritually survive without Him, even for an instant.
ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਰਤਾ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿ ਸਕਦੀ।
ਮਨ ਤਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਰਵਿ ਰਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥੧॥
man tan antar rav rahay naanak sahj subhaa-ay. ||1||
O’ Nanak, the beloved-God intuitively remains in her mind and body.||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਬਿਨਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਉਚੇਚੇ ਜਤਨ ਦੇ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਤਨ ਵਿਚ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਕਰੁ ਗਹਿ ਲੀਨੀ ਸਾਜਨਹਿ ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਮੀਤ ॥
kar geh leenee saajniH janam janam kay meet.
God extended His support to that soul-bride with whom He has been a best friend, lifetime after lifetime.
ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਚਲੇ ਆ ਰਹੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਸੱਜਣ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ (ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦਾ) ਹੱਥ ਫੜ ਕੇ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ) ਬਣਾ ਲਿਆ।
ਚਰਨਹ ਦਾਸੀ ਕਰਿ ਲਈ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਹਿਤ ਚੀਤ ॥੨॥
charnah daasee kar la-ee naanak parabh hit cheet. ||2||
O’ Nanak, blessing her with His utmost love, God accepted her as His humble devotee. ||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਹਾਰਦਿਕ ਪਿਆਰ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਉਸ (ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ) ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਾਸੀ ਬਣਾ ਲਿਆ ॥੨॥

ਰੁਤਿ ਬਰਸੁ ਸੁਹੇਲੀਆ ਸਾਵਣ ਭਾਦਵੇ ਆਨੰਦ ਜੀਉ ॥
rut baras suhaylee-aa saavan bhaadvay aanand jee-o.
Just as the rainy season is very comforting because rain in the months of Sawan-Bhadon (July-August) brings blissful joy,
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਵਰਖਾ-ਰੁੱਤ ਬੜੀ ਸੁਖਦਾਈ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਸਾਵਣ ਭਾਦਰੋਂ ਦੇ ਮਹੀਨਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ (ਵਰਖਾ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ) ਬੜੀਆਂ ਮੌਜਾਂ ਬਣੀਆਂ ਰਹਿੰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ,
ਘਣ ਉਨਵਿ ਵੁਠੇ ਜਲ ਥਲ ਪੂਰਿਆ ਮਕਰੰਦ ਜੀਉ ॥
ghan unav vuthay jal thal poori-aa makrand jee-o.
and when the low clouds graciously pour rain and fill all the low lands and water bodies with the fragrant fresh water:
ਬੱਦਲ ਝੁਕ ਝੁਕ ਕੇ ਵਰ੍ਹਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤਲਾਬਾਂ-ਛੱਪੜਾਂ ਵਿਚ, ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇ ਟੋਇਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਸੁਗੰਧੀ-ਭਰਿਆ ਪਾਣੀ ਹੀ ਪਾਣੀ ਭਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ;
ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਰਬ ਠਾਈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਨਵ ਨਿਧਿ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਭਰੇ ॥
parabh poor rahi-aa sarab thaa-ee har naam nav niDh garih bharay.
Similarly those people, whose hearts are filled with the nine treasures-like wealth of God’s Name, behold Him pervading everywhere.
ਤਿਵੇਂ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਨੌ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਨਕਾ-ਨਕਾ ਭਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਭਨੀਂ ਥਾਈਂ ਦਿੱਸਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਕੁਲ ਸਮੂਹਾ ਸਭਿ ਤਰੇ ॥
simar su-aamee antarjaamee kul samoohaa sabh taray.
And all their lineages swim across the world-ocean of vices by remembering the omniscient God with adoration.
ਸਭਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਹੀ ਕੁਲਾਂ ਤਰ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ।
ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਰੰਗਿ ਜਾਗੇ ਨਹ ਛਿਦ੍ਰ ਲਾਗੇ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲੁ ਸਦ ਬਖਸਿੰਦੁ ਜੀਉ ॥
pari-a rang jaagay nah chhidar laagay kirpaal sad bakhsind jee-o.
Being imbued with the love of beloved God, those who remain awake and aware of the onslaught of Maya, are not stained by vices; the Merciful God is always kind to them.
ਜੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ (ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਹੱਲਿਆਂ ਵੱਲੋਂ) ਸੁਚੇਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੋਈ ਦਾਗ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਦੇ, ਦਇਆ ਦਾ ਘਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਦਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਤ੍ਰੁੱਠਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਕੰਤੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਦਾ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਵੰਦੁ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥
binvant naanak har kant paa-i-aa sadaa man bhaavand jee-o. ||4||
Nanak submits, such soul-brides realize their Husband-God, who is always pleasing to their mind. ||4||
ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ- ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥

ਆਸ ਪਿਆਸੀ ਮੈ ਫਿਰਉ ਕਬ ਪੇਖਉ ਗੋਪਾਲ ॥
aas pi-aasee mai fira-o kab paykha-o gopaal.
I am wandering around yearning with the desire for the blessed vision of the Master-God of the universe; I wonder, when will I be able to behold Him?
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਦੀ ਆਸ ਰੱਖ ਕੇ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਦੀ ਤਾਂਘ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਂ ਭਾਲ ਕਰਦੀ) ਫਿਰਦੀ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਕਦੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਗੋਪਾਲ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਕਦ ਵੇਖਾਂਗੀ।
ਹੈ ਕੋਈ ਸਾਜਨੁ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮੇਲਣਹਾਰ ॥੧॥
hai ko-ee saajan sant jan naanak parabh maylanhaar. ||1||
O’ Nanak, is there any saintly friend who could unite me with God? ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ!(ਮੈਂ ਭਾਲਦੀ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ) ਕੋਈ ਸੱਜਣ ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਲੱਭ ਪਏ ਜੋ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਣ ਦੀ ਸਮਰੱਥਾ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੋਵੇ ॥੧॥
ਬਿਨੁ ਮਿਲਬੇ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਨ ਊਪਜੈ ਤਿਲੁ ਪਲੁ ਰਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
bin milbay saaNt na oopjai til pal rahan na jaa-ay.
Without realizing God, I cannot find any peace; yes, I cannot remain at peace without Him even for a moment.
(ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ) ਮਿਲਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਠੰਢ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦੀ, ਰਤਾ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਲਈ ਭੀ (ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਨਾਲ) ਰਿਹਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਹਰਿ ਸਾਧਹ ਸਰਣਾਗਤੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਆਸ ਪੁਜਾਇ ॥੨॥
har saaDhah sarnaagatee naanak aas pujaa-ay. ||2||
O’ Nanak, by remaining in the refuge of God’s saints, her desire of having the blessed vision of God is fulfilled. ||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨੀ ਪਿਆਂ ਆਸ ਪੂਰੀ ਕਰ (ਹੀ) ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥

ਰੁਤਿ ਸਰਦ ਅਡੰਬਰੋ ਅਸੂ ਕਤਕੇ ਹਰਿ ਪਿਆਸ ਜੀਉ ॥
rut sarad adambaro asoo katkay har pi-aas jee-o.

ਜਦੋਂ ਅੱਸੂ ਕੱਤਕ ਵਿਚ ਮਿੱਠੀ ਮਿੱਠੀ ਰੁੱਤ ਦਾ ਆਰੰਭ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਤਦੋਂ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ) ਦੀ ਤਾਂਘ ਉਪਜਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਖੋਜੰਤੀ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਫਿਰਤ ਕਬ ਮਿਲੀਐ ਗੁਣਤਾਸ ਜੀਉ ॥
khojantee darsan firat kab milee-ai guntaas jee-o.
She keeps wandering around to see the blessed vision of God and she keeps wondering, when could she realize God, the treasure of virtues?
ਉਹ) ਦੀਦਾਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਭਾਲ ਕਰਦੀ ਫਿਰਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਕਦੋਂ ਮੇਲ ਹੋਵੇ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਕੰਤ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਨਹ ਸੂਖ ਸਾਰੇ ਹਾਰ ਕੰਙਣ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਬਨਾ ॥
bin kant pi-aaray nah sookh saaray haar kanyan Dharig banaa.
Without the beloved Husband-God, she finds no peace and all her decorations (worldly pleasures) become cursed.
ਪਿਆਰੇ ਖਸਮ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦੇ ਸੁਖ ਦੀ ਸਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਸਕਦੀ, ਹਾਰ ਕੰਙਣ (ਸਿੰਗਾਰ ਸਗੋਂ) ਦੁਖਦਾਈ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸੁੰਦਰਿ ਸੁਜਾਣਿ ਚਤੁਰਿ ਬੇਤੀ ਸਾਸ ਬਿਨੁ ਜੈਸੇ ਤਨਾ ॥
sundar sujaan chatur baytee saas bin jaisay tanaa.
Even a beautiful, wise, clever and knowledgeable soul-bride, without the love of her husband-God, feels like a body without breath.
ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਸੋਹਣੀ, ਸਿਆਣੀ, ਚਤੁਰ ਹੋਵੇ, ਵਿੱਦਿਆ-ਵਤੀ ਹੋਵੇ (ਪਤੀ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਇਉਂ ਹੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਵੇਂ) ਸਾਹ ਆਉਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਸਰੀਰ।
ਈਤ ਉਤ ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਅਲੋਕਨ ਮਨਿ ਮਿਲਨ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪਿਆਸ ਜੀਉ ॥
eet ut dah dis alokan man milan kee parabh pi-aas jee-o.
She looks here and there and everywhere with the yearning to unite with God.
ਉਹ ਆਸੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਦਸੀਂ ਪਾਸੀਂ ਵੇਖ-ਭਾਲ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਦੀ ਤਾਂਘ ਬਣੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਧਾਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਮੇਲਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਗੁਣਤਾਸ ਜੀਉ ॥੫॥
binvant naanak Dhaar kirpaa maylhu parabh guntaas jee-o. ||5||
Nanak submits! (the soul-bride keeps humbly saying), O’ God, the treasure of virtues, please bestow mercy and unite me with You. ||5||
ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ- (ਉਹ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ)-ਹੇ ਨੇਕੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਖਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਰਹਿਮ ਕਰ ਤੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਲੈ ॥੫॥

ਜਲਣਿ ਬੁਝੀ ਸੀਤਲ ਭਏ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਉਪਜੀ ਸਾਂਤਿ ॥
jalan bujhee seetal bha-ay man tan upjee saaNt.
The fire of desire is quenched, the mind and body become tranquil and peace welled up within those,
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਬੁੱਝ ਗਈ, ਮਨ ਤਨ ਠੰਢੇ-ਠਾਰ ਹੋ ਗਏ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਗਈ ,
ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪੂਰਨ ਮਿਲੇ ਦੁਤੀਆ ਬਿਨਸੀ ਭ੍ਰਾਂਤਿ ॥੧॥
naanak parabh pooran milay dutee-aa binsee bharaaNt. ||1||
who have realized the perfect God: O’ Nanak, the sense of duality and doubt vanished from within them. ||1||
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ: ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਦਵੈਤ-ਭਾਵ ਤੇ ਸੰਦੇਹ ਦੂਰ ਗਏ ਹਨ।
