Raag Raamkalee, Fifth Guru, Second Beat, two stanzas:
ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik-oNkaar satgur parsaad.
One eternal God, realized by the grace of the True Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗਾਵਹੁ ਰਾਮ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਗੀਤ ॥
gaavhu raam kay gun geet.
Sing the songs of praises of God with adoration.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ (ਸਦਾ) ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹੁ।
ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਤ ਪਰਮ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਆਵਾ ਗਉਣੁ ਮਿਟੈ ਮੇਰੇ ਮੀਤ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
naam japat param sukh paa-ee-ai aavaa ga-on mitai mayray meet. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O’ my friend! we receive supreme bliss by lovingly remembering God’s Name and our cycle of birth and death ends. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਿਆਂ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਸੁਖ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲਈਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਤ ਹੋਵਤ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ॥

One is spiritually enlightened by singing praises of God,
ਹੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਿਆਂ (ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ) ਚਾਨਣ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਮਹਿ ਹੋਇ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ॥੧॥
charan kamal meh ho-ay nivaas. ||1||
and the mind remains attuned to His immaculate Name. ||1||
ਅਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮਨ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਸੰਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਹਿ ਹੋਇ ਉਧਾਰੁ ॥
santsangat meh ho-ay uDhaar.
By remaining in the company of the Guru, one is saved from the worldly bonds,
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਰਿਹਾਂ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਬੰਦਖਲਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਨਾਨਕ ਭਵਜਲੁ ਉਤਰਸਿ ਪਾਰਿ ॥੨॥੧॥੫੭॥

O’ Nanak, he crosses over the terrifying world-ocean of vices. ||2||1||57||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥੧॥੫੭॥

ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ॥
gur pooraa mayraa gur pooraa.
My Guru is perfect; yes my Guru is all powerful.
ਮੇਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਭ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਪੂਰੀ ਸਮਰਥਾ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਹੇਲੇ ਸਗਲ ਬਿਨਾਸੇ ਰੋਗ ਕੂਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
raam naam jap sadaa suhaylay sagal binaasay rog kooraa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
People always enjoy spiritual peace by lovingly remembering God’s Name; all their maladies arising from the love for Maya vanish. ||1||Pause||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਏਕੁ ਅਰਾਧਹੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਸੋਇ ॥
ayk aaraaDhahu saachaa so-ay.
O’ brother! remember with adoration only that one eternal God,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਉਸ ਇੱਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਆਰਾਧਨ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰੋ,
ਜਾ ਕੀ ਸਰਨਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥
jaa kee saran sadaa sukh ho-ay. ||1||
in whose refuge one always attains spiritual peace. ||1||
ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਨੀਦ ਸੁਹੇਲੀ ਨਾਮ ਕੀ ਲਾਗੀ ਭੂਖ ॥
need suhaylee naam kee laagee bhookh.
When one feels yearning for Naam, his life becomes peaceful,
ਜਦੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਲਗਨ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਨੀਦ ਸੁਖਦਾਈ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਸਭ ਦੂਖ ॥੨॥
har simrat binsay sabh dookh. ||2||
and by lovingly remembering God all his sorrows vanish. ||2||
ਅਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਿਆਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਸਹਜਿ ਅਨੰਦ ਕਰਹੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ ॥
sahj anand karahu mayray bhaa-ee.
O’ my brother! remain spiritually poise and enjoy bliss,
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ! ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਮਾਣੋ,
ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਸਭ ਚਿੰਤ ਮਿਟਾਈ ॥੩॥
gur poorai sabh chint mitaa-ee. ||3||
because the perfect Guru has eradicated all your anxiety. ||3||
ਕਿਉਂਕੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਮਿਟਾ ਦਿਤੀ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਾ ਜਪੁ ਜਾਪਿ ॥
aath pahar parabh kaa jap jaap.
O’ brother, always remember God with loving devotion,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਅੱਠੇ ਪਹਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਜਾਪ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਰਾਖਾ ਹੋਆ ਆਪਿ ॥੪॥੨॥੫੮॥
naanak raakhaa ho-aa aap. ||4||2||58||
O’ Nanak! God Himself becomes his savior (who remembers God with adoration). ||4||2||58||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਾ ਹੈ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਰਖਵਾਲਾ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੨॥੫੮॥

ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਰਨਰਹ ਨਮਸਕਾਰੰ ॥
narnarah namaskaaraN.
O’ brother, always humbly bow to God, the supreme being.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਨਮਸਕਾਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹੋ।
ਜਲਨ ਥਲਨ ਬਸੁਧ ਗਗਨ ਏਕ ਏਕੰਕਾਰੰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jalan thalan basuDh gagan ayk aykaNkaaraN. ||1|| rahaa-o.
The one all pervading God permeates all the waters, the lands, the earth and the sky. ||1||Pause||
ਇੱਕ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਜਲਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ, ਥਲਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਹੈ, ਧਰਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਵਿਚ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਹਰਨ ਧਰਨ ਪੁਨ ਪੁਨਹ ਕਰਨ ॥
haran Dharan pun punah karan.
God creates, sustains and destroys the universe over and over again.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਰਚਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਰਚਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਸਰਾ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਨਾਸ ਭੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਹ ਗਿਰਹ ਨਿਰੰਹਾਰੰ ॥੧॥
nah girah niraNhaaraN. ||1||
God has neither any particular home, nor He needs any nourishment. ||1||
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਖ਼ਾਸ ਘਰ ਨਹੀਂ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਖ਼ੁਰਾਕ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਨਹੀਂ ॥੧॥
ਗੰਭੀਰ ਧੀਰ ਨਾਮ ਹੀਰ ਊਚ ਮੂਚ ਅਪਾਰੰ ॥
gambheer Dheer naam heer ooch mooch apaaraN.
God is very profound and patience; His Name is invaluable, He is the highest of the high, exalted and infinite.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਥਾਹ ਅਤੇ ਧੀਰਜਵਾਨ ਹੈ; ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਬਹੁ-ਮੁੱਲਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚਾ ਹੈ, ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਹੈ।
ਕਰਨ ਕੇਲ ਗੁਣ ਅਮੋਲ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੰ ॥੨॥੧॥੫੯॥
karan kayl gun amol naanak balihaaraN. ||2||1||59||
God stages plays, His virtues are priceless; O’ Nanak, we should dedicate ourselves to Him. ||2||1||59||
ਉਹ ਸਭ ਕੌਤਕ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਅਮੁੱਲ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥੧॥੫੯॥

ਰੂਪ ਰੰਗ ਸੁਗੰਧ ਭੋਗ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਚਲੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਛਲੇ ਕਨਿਕ ਕਾਮਿਨੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
roop rang suganDh bhog ti-aag chalay maa-i-aa chhalay kanik kaaminee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
people deceived by Maya, ultimately depart from this world abandoning beauty, pleasures, fragrance, enjoyments, gold and women. ||1||Pause||
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਠੱਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਜੀਵ ਆਖ਼ਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਰੂਪ ਰੰਗ ਸੁਗੰਧੀਆਂ ਭੋਗ-ਵਿਲਾਸ ਸੋਨਾ, ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਇਥੋਂ ਤੁਰ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਭੰਡਾਰ ਦਰਬ ਅਰਬ ਖਰਬ ਪੇਖਿ ਲੀਲਾ ਮਨੁ ਸਧਾਰੈ ॥
bhandaar darab arab kharab paykh leelaa man saDhaarai.
Seeing the glamour of treasures filled with millions and billions, one’s mind feels assured,
ਬੇਅੰਤ ਧਨ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਮੌਜ ਵੇਖ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ) ਮਨ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਢਾਰਸ ਬਣਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਨਹ ਸੰਗਿ ਗਾਮਨੀ ॥੧॥
nah sang gaamnee. ||1||
but none of these accompanies him (after death). ||1||
(ਪਰ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਚੀਜ਼ ਇਸ ਦੇ) ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦੀ ॥੧॥
ਸੁਤ ਕਲਤ੍ਰ ਭ੍ਰਾਤ ਮੀਤ ਉਰਝਿ ਪਰਿਓ ਭਰਮਿ ਮੋਹਿਓ ਇਹ ਬਿਰਖ ਛਾਮਨੀ ॥
sut kaltar bharaat meet urajh pari-o bharam mohi-o ih birakh chhaamnee.
One remains entangled in the attachments for his children, wife, brothers and friends; enticed and fooled by these relations, he does not realize that these are transitory like the shade of a tree.
ਪੁੱਤਰ, ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ, ਭਰਾ, ਮਿੱਤਰ (ਆਦਿਕ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ) ਵਿਚ ਜੀਵ ਫਸਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਭੁਲੇਖੇ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਠੱਗਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ-ਪਰ ਇਹ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਰੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਛਾਂ (ਵਾਂਗ) ਹੈ।
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਸਰਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੁਖੁ ਸੰਤ ਭਾਵਨੀ ॥੨॥੨॥੬੦॥
charan kamal saran naanak sukh sant bhaavnee. ||2||2||60||
O’ Nanak, the celestial peace in the protection of God’s immaculate Name is pleasing to the saints. ||2||2||60||
(ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਦਾ ਸੁਖ ਹੀ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥੨॥੬੦॥

Raag Raamkalee, Ninth Guru, Three Stanzas:
ਰੇ ਮਨ ਓਟ ਲੇਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਾ ॥
ray man ot layho har naamaa.
O mind, take the support of the Name of God,
ਹੇ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਮਨ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈ,
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਾਸੈ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਪਦੁ ਨਿਰਬਾਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jaa kai simran durmat naasai paavahi pad nirbaanaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
remembering whom evil intellect vanishes and one attains the supreme spiritual status (where no desires affect the mind). ||1||Pause||
ਜਿਸ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਨਾਲ ਖੋਟੀ ਮੱਤ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, (ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਤੂੰ ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਦਰਜਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲਏਂਗਾ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਕੋਈ ਵਾਸਨਾ ਪੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਬਡਭਾਗੀ ਤਿਹ ਜਨ ਕਉ ਜਾਨਹੁ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵੈ ॥
badbhaagee tih jan ka-o jaanhu jo har kay gun gaavai.
One who sings praises of God, consider him very fortunate
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਸਮਝ।
ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਪਾਪ ਖੋਇ ਕੈ ਫੁਨਿ ਬੈਕੁੰਠਿ ਸਿਧਾਵੈ ॥੧॥
janam janam kay paap kho-ay kai fun baikunth siDhaavai. ||1||
Eradicating the sins committed birth after birth, he unites with God. ||1||
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਾਪ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਫਿਰ ਬੈਕੁੰਠ ਵਿਚ ਜਾ ਪਹੁੰਚਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
