Raag Raamkalee, Fifth Guru:
ਈੰਧਨ ਤੇ ਬੈਸੰਤਰੁ ਭਾਗੈ ॥
eeNDhan tay baisantar bhaagai.
(O’ my mind, look at the wonders of God), even though fire is locked in the wood, yet it doesn’t burn it, as if the fire is running away from the wood.
(ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਵੇਖ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀਆਂ ਅਸਚਰਜ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ!) ਲੱਕੜੀ ਤੋਂ ਅੱਗ ਪਰੇ ਭੱਜਦੀ ਹੈ (ਲੱਕੜੀ ਵਿਚ ਅੱਗ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਾੜਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ)।
ਮਾਟੀ ਕਉ ਜਲੁ ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਤਿਆਗੈ ॥
maatee ka-o jal dah dis ti-aagai.
The water (ocean) leaves the earth alone in all directions (doesn’t drown it).
ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਦਾ ਪਾਣੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਹਰ ਪਾਸੇ ਵਲੋਂ ਤਿਆਗੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ (ਧਰਤੀ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਡੋਬਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ)।
ਊਪਰਿ ਚਰਨ ਤਲੈ ਆਕਾਸੁ ॥
oopar charan talai aakaas.
The leaves and branches of a tree are like the feet which are above the ground, the trunk of the tree which is like the head is below on the ground.
ਰੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਪੈਰ (ਡਾਲੇ) ਉਪਰ ਵਲ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਸਿਰ ਰੂਪ ਮੁਢ ਹੇਠਲੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਹੈ।
ਘਟ ਮਹਿ ਸਿੰਧੁ ਕੀਓ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ॥੧॥
ghat meh sinDh kee-o pargaas. ||1||
God who is like an ocean, manifests Himself in tiny pitcher-like bodies. ||1||
ਘੜੇ ਵਿਚ (ਨਿੱਕੇ ਨਿੱਕੇ ਸਰੀਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਸਮੁੰਦਰ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪ ਪਰਕਾਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਐਸਾ ਸੰਮ੍ਰਥੁ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਆਪਿ ॥
aisaa samrath har jee-o aap.
Reverend God who by Himself is so powerful,
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਬੜੀਆਂ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ।
ਨਿਮਖ ਨ ਬਿਸਰੈ ਜੀਅ ਭਗਤਨ ਕੈ ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਮਨ ਤਾ ਕਉ ਜਾਪਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
nimakh na bisrai jee-a bhagtan kai aath pahar man taa ka-o jaap. ||1|| rahaa-o.
does not leave the minds of His devotees even for an instant; O’ my mind, lovingly remember Him at all times. ||1||Pause||
ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਤੋਂ ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਿਸਰਦਾ। ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਤੂੰ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਅੱਠੇ ਪਹਿਰ ਜਪਿਆ ਕਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਪ੍ਰਥਮੇ ਮਾਖਨੁ ਪਾਛੈ ਦੂਧੁ ॥
parathmay maakhan paachhai dooDh.
God manifested Himself first and then came His creation, as if butter is there before milk.
ਦੁੱਧ ਨੂੰ ਰਿੜਕਿਆਂ ਮੱਖਣ ਪਿੱਛੋਂ ਨਿਕਲਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦਾ ਤੱਤ- ਮੱਖਣ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਪਸਾਰਾ-ਜਗਤ ਦੁੱਧ ਪਿਛੋਂ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮੈਲੂ ਕੀਨੋ ਸਾਬੁਨੁ ਸੂਧੁ ॥
mailoo keeno saabun sooDh.
God transforms the dirty looking blood of the mother into pure milk for the new born baby, as if the dirt cleans the soap.
(ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਪਾਲਣਾ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਮੈਲ ਨੂੰ (ਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਲਹੂ ਨੂੰ) ਸੁੱਧ ਸਾਬਣ ਵਰਗਾ ਚਿੱਟਾ ਦੁੱਧ ਬਣਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਭੈ ਤੇ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਡਰਤਾ ਫਿਰੈ ॥
bhai tay nirbha-o dartaa firai.
A human being, the creation of the fearless God, is afraid of worldly fears.
ਨਿਰਭਉ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਅੰਸ ਜੀਵ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਡਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਡਰਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਹੋਂਦੀ ਕਉ ਅਣਹੋਂਦੀ ਹਿਰੈ ॥੨॥
hoNdee ka-o anhoNdee hirai. ||2||
A human being who has his own existence, is deceived by the worldly illusions (Maya) with no separate existence. ||2||
ਹੋਂਦ ਵਾਲੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਨੂੰ ਅਣਹੋਂਦੀ ਮਾਇਆ, ਜਿਸ ਦੀ (ਵੱਖਰੀ) ਹਸਤੀ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ, ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਭਜਾਈ ਫਿਰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਦੇਹੀ ਗੁਪਤ ਬਿਦੇਹੀ ਦੀਸੈ ॥
dayhee gupat bidayhee deesai.
The soul, which is the true owner of the body is invisible, but the perishable body is so apparent.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਰੀਰ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਆਤਮਾ (ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ) ਲੁਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਸਰੀਰ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਗਲੇ ਸਾਜਿ ਕਰਤ ਜਗਦੀਸੈ ॥
saglay saaj karat jagdeesai.
After creating all the creatures, the Master-God keeps doing many wonders.
ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਕੌਤਕ) ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਠਗਣਹਾਰ ਅਣਠਗਦਾ ਠਾਗੈ ॥
thaganhaar an-thagdaa thaagai.
Maya, the deceiver, keeps deceiving the soul.
ਠਗਣੀ-ਮਾਇਆ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਠੱਗਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਵਖਰ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਉਠਿ ਲਾਗੈ ॥੩॥
bin vakhar fir fir uth laagai. ||3||
Devoid of the wealth of Naam, a human being keeps clinging to Maya again and again. ||3||
ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਪੂੰਜੀ ਤੋਂ ਸੱਖਣਾ ਜੀਵ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਮਾਇਆ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਬੜਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਸੰਤ ਸਭਾ ਮਿਲਿ ਕਰਹੁ ਬਖਿਆਣ ॥
sant sabhaa mil karahu bakhi-aan.
O’ brother, join together in the company of saints and reflect on the scriptures,
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਸੰਤ-ਸਭਾ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ (ਧਰਮ ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਦੀ) ਵਿਆਖਿਆ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਵੇਖ ਲਵੋ,
ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਾਸਤ ਬੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਣ ॥
simrit saasat bayd puraan.
the Simritees, Shaastras, Vedas and Puraanas proclaim;
ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੀਆਂ ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰਾਂਵੇਦਾਂ ਪੁਰਾਣਾਂ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ;
ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੇ ਕੋਇ ॥
barahm beechaar beechaaray ko-ay.
that only a rare person reflects on God’s virtues.
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਤਸੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਵਿਚਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਪਰਮ ਗਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੪॥੪੩॥੫੪॥
naanak taa kee param gat ho-ay. ||4||43||54||
O’ Nanak, only that rare person attains the supreme spiritual status. ||4||43||54||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਉਸੇ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਬਣਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੪੩॥੫੪॥

Raag Raamkalee, Fifth Guru:
ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਥੀਆ ॥
jo tis bhaavai so thee-aa.
Whatever is pleasing to God, only that happens.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਆਨ ਬੀਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sadaa sadaa har kee sarnaa-ee parabh bin naahee aan bee-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Therefore, always remain in God’s refuge, because except God there is none other. ||1||Pause||
ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆ ਰਹੁ। ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਦੂਜਾ (ਕੁਝ ਕਰਨ-ਜੋਗਾ) ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਪੁਤੁ ਕਲਤ੍ਰੁ ਲਖਿਮੀ ਦੀਸੈ ਇਨ ਮਹਿ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਲੀਆ ॥
put kalatar lakhimee deesai in meh kichhoo na sang lee-aa.
O’ brother! the son, wife and worldly wealth which you see, one takes none of these along.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪੁੱਤਰ, ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ, ਮਾਇਆ-ਇਹ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਦਿੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕੁਝ ਭੀ (ਅੰਤ ਵੇਲੇ ਜੀਵ) ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੈ ਜਾਂਦਾ।
ਬਿਖੈ ਠਗਉਰੀ ਖਾਇ ਭੁਲਾਨਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੰਦਰੁ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਗਇਆ ॥੧॥
bikhai thag-uree khaa-ay bhulaanaa maa-i-aa mandar ti-aag ga-i-aa. ||1||
Indulged in the poisonous Maya, one remains astray and departs from here abandoning worldly possessions such as Maya and mansions. ||1||
ਵਿਸ਼ੇ-ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਠਗਬੂਟੀ ਖਾ ਕੇ ਜੀਵ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਖ਼ਰ ਇਹ ਮਾਇਆ, ਇਹ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਘਰ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਤੁਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਵਿਗੂਤਾ ਗਰਭ ਜੋਨਿ ਮਹਿ ਕਿਰਤਿ ਪਇਆ ॥
nindaa kar kar bahut vigootaa garabh jon meh kirat pa-i-aa.
One is totally spiritually ruined by Slandering others, and because of this deed he remains in the cycle of birth and death.
ਜੀਵ ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਇਸ ਕੀਤੇ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਜਾ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਪੁਰਬ ਕਮਾਣੇ ਛੋਡਹਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਜਮਦੂਤਿ ਗ੍ਰਾਸਿਓ ਮਹਾ ਭਇਆ ॥੨॥
purab kamaanay chhodeh naahee jamdoot garaasi-o mahaa bha-i-aa. ||2||
The misdeeds done in the past, don’t spare the mortal, therefore one remains in the grip of the most horrible demon of death. ||2||
ਪੂਰਬਲੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਸਕਾਰ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਵੱਡਾ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਜਮਦੂਤ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਬੂ ਕਰੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਬੋਲੈ ਝੂਠੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਅਵਰਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਨ ਬੂਝੈ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਹਇਆ ॥
bolai jhooth kamaavai avraa tarisan na boojhai bahut ha-i-aa.
One tells lies, he says one thing and does another; his desires are never satisfied and remains miserable in the love for Maya.
ਜੀਵ ਝੂਠ ਬੋਲਦਾ ਹੈ (ਮੂੰਹੋਂ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੋਰ ਹੈ, ਤੇ) ਕਮਾਂਦਾ ਕੁਝ ਹੋਰ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਦੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਬੁੱਝਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ‘ਹਾਇ ਹਾਇ’ ਸਦਾ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਗੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਅਸਾਧ ਰੋਗੁ ਉਪਜਿਆ ਸੰਤ ਦੂਖਨਿ ਦੇਹ ਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਮਹਾ ਖਇਆ ॥੩॥
asaaDh rog upji-aa sant dookhan dayh binaasee mahaa kha-i-aa. ||3||
One is afflicted with an incurable disease of slandering the saints and his body gets destroyed by this terrible disease. ||3||
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਲਾ-ਇਲਾਜ ਰੋਗ (ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਵੱਡੇ ਖਈ ਰੋਗ ਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਜਿਨਹਿ ਨਿਵਾਜੇ ਤਿਨ ਹੀ ਸਾਜੇ ਆਪੇ ਕੀਨੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਇਆ ॥
jineh nivaajay tin hee saajay aapay keenay sant ja-i-aa.
God has embellished those whom He has created; He Himself has made them victorious.
ਜਿਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਉਸੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਭਾਇਮਾਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਿੱਤ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਕੰਠਿ ਲਾਇ ਰਾਖੇ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਮਇਆ ॥੪॥੪੪॥੫੫॥
naanak daas kanth laa-ay raakhay kar kirpaa paarbarahm ma-i-aa. ||4||44||55||
O’ Nanak! bestowing mercy and compassion, God has saved His devotees by keeping them very close. ||4||44||55||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਗਲ ਨਾਲ ਲਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੪੪॥੫੫॥

Raag Raamkalee, Fifth Guru:
ਐਸਾ ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰਦੇਉ ਸਹਾਈ ॥
aisaa pooraa gurday-o sahaa-ee.
The perfect Divine-Guru is such a supporter,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਮਦਦਗਾਰ ਹੈ,
ਜਾ ਕਾ ਸਿਮਰਨੁ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jaa kaa simran birthaa na jaa-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
remembering and following his teachings never goes waste. ||1||Pause||
ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪੇਖਤ ਹੋਇ ਨਿਹਾਲੁ ॥
darsan paykhat ho-ay nihaal.
Beholding the Guru, a person is fully delighted,
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ) ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤਨੋ ਮਨੋ) ਖਿੜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਜਾ ਕੀ ਧੂਰਿ ਕਾਟੈ ਜਮ ਜਾਲੁ ॥
jaa kee Dhoor kaatai jam jaal.
The Guru’s teachings snaps the noose of Death.
ਉਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨ-ਧੂੜ ਜਮ ਦੀ ਫਾਹੀ ਕੱਟ ਦੇਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਬਸੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਕੇ ॥
charan kamal basay mayray man kay.
One in whose mind are enshrined the immaculate divine words of the Guru,
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਨ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਟਿੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਕਾਰਜ ਸਵਾਰੇ ਸਗਲੇ ਤਨ ਕੇ ॥੧॥
kaaraj savaaray saglay tan kay. ||1||
all the tasks of his body and mind are successfully resolved by the Guru. ||1||
(ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਮਨ ਦੇ (ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਸਰੀਰ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਕੰਮ (ਗੁਰੂ) ਸੰਵਾਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਰਾਖੈ ਹਾਥੁ ॥
jaa kai mastak raakhai haath.
One on whom the Guru bestows his grace,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ (ਗੁਰੂ ਆਪਣਾ) ਹੱਥ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਰੋ ਅਨਾਥ ਕੋ ਨਾਥੁ ॥
parabh mayro anaath ko naath.
realizes my God who is the Master of the masterless.
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੇਰਾ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ਜੋ ਨਿਆਸਰਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ।
ਪਤਿਤ ਉਧਾਰਣੁ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ॥
patit uDhaaran kirpaa niDhaan.
The Guru is the purifier of the sinners and he is the treasure of mercy.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਡਿੱਗੇ ਹੋਇਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਜਾਈਐ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੁ ॥੨॥
sadaa sadaa jaa-ee-ai kurbaan. ||2||
We should always be dedicated to the Guru. ||2||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਨਿਰਮਲ ਮੰਤੁ ਦੇਇ ਜਿਸੁ ਦਾਨੁ ॥
nirmal mant day-ay jis daan.
One whom the Guru blesses with his immaculate teachings,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਆਪਣਾ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਤਜਹਿ ਬਿਕਾਰ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥
tajeh bikaar binsai abhimaan.
he renounces his vices and his ego is destroyed.
ਉਹ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤਿਆਗ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ. ਉਸ ਦਾ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਏਕੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਸਾਧ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ॥
ayk Dhi-aa-ee-ai saaDh kai sang.
We should lovingly remember God in the company of the Guru,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਇੱਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਪਾਪ ਬਿਨਾਸੇ ਨਾਮ ਕੈ ਰੰਗਿ ॥੩॥
paap binaasay naam kai rang. ||3||
By remaining imbued with the love of God, all the sins are destroyed. ||3||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰਿਹਾਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਮੇਸੁਰ ਸਗਲ ਨਿਵਾਸ ॥
gur parmaysur sagal nivaas.
The Divine-Guru dwells among all.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ-ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਗੁਣਤਾਸ ॥
ghat ghat rav rahi-aa guntaas.
God, the treasure of virtues, is pervading in each and every heart.
ਸਾਰੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ।
ਦਰਸੁ ਦੇਹਿ ਧਾਰਉ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਆਸ ॥
daras deh Dhaara-o parabh aas.
O’ God, grant me Your blessed vision, I cherish this hope in my heart.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਦੇਹ, ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਦੀ ਆਸ ਰੱਖੀ ਬੈਠਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਨਿਤ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਚਿਤਵੈ ਸਚੁ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥੪॥੪੫॥੫੬॥
nit naanak chitvai sach ardaas. ||4||45||56||
This is my only prayer that (Your devotee ) Nanak may always keep remembering the eternal God with loving devotion. ||4||45||56||
ਮੇਰੀ ਇਹੀ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਹੈ ਕਿ (ਤੇਰਾ ਸੇਵਕ) ਨਾਨਕ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹੇ ॥੪॥੪੫॥੫੬॥
