ਘਰੁ ਦਰੁ ਪਾਵੈ ਮਹਲੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਿਆਰਿਆ ॥
ghar dar paavai mahal naam pi-aari-aa.
He attains to God’s presence by developing a love for the beloved God.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਘਰ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਮਹਲ ਲੱਭ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਉ ਗੁਰ ਕਉ ਵਾਰਿਆ ॥
gurmukh paa-i-aa naam ha-o gur ka-o vaari-aa.
God’s Name is realized through the Guru’s teachings; I am dedicated to the Guru.
ਮੈਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਹਾਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਤੂ ਆਪਿ ਸਵਾਰਹਿ ਆਪਿ ਸਿਰਜਨਹਾਰਿਆ ॥੧੬॥
too aap savaareh aap sirjanhaari-aa. ||16||
O’ the creator God, You Yourself embellish the life of people (by enabling them to follow the Guru’s teachings). ||16||
ਹੇ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਰਾਹ ਤੇ ਤੋਰ ਕੇ ਜੀਵ ਦਾ) ਜੀਵਨ ਸਵਾਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ ॥੧੬॥
ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੧ ॥

Shalok, First Guru:
ਦੀਵਾ ਬਲੈ ਅੰਧੇਰਾ ਜਾਇ ॥
deevaa balai anDhayraa jaa-ay.
Just as with the lighting of a lamp, darkness disappears.
(ਜਿਵੇਂ ਜਦੋਂ) ਦੀਵਾ ਜਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਹਨੇਰਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਬੇਦ ਪਾਠ ਮਤਿ ਪਾਪਾ ਖਾਇ ॥
bayd paath mat paapaa khaa-ay.
Similarly, one’s sinful intellect vanishes by reading the holy books, such as the Vedas.
ਏਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਵੇਦ (ਆਦਿਕ ਧਰਮ-ਪੁਸਤਕਾਂ ਦੀ) ਬਾਣੀ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਢਲੀ ਹੋਈ ਮਤਿ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਉਗਵੈ ਸੂਰੁ ਨ ਜਾਪੈ ਚੰਦੁ ॥
ugvai soor na jaapai chand.
Just as when the sun rises, the moon is not visible.
ਜਦੋਂ ਸੂਰਜ ਚੜ੍ਹ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਾ (ਚੜ੍ਹਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ) ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਪਦਾ,
ਜਹ ਗਿਆਨ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੁ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਮਿਟੰਤੁ ॥
jah gi-aan pargaas agi-aan mitant.
Similarly, ignorance vanishes from the spiritually enlightened mind.
ਤਿਵੇਂ) ਜਿਥੇ ਮਤਿ ਉੱਜਲੀ (ਗਿਆਨ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼) ਹੋ ਜਾਏ ਓਥੇ ਅਗਿਆਨਤਾ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਬੇਦ ਪਾਠ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਕੀ ਕਾਰ ॥
bayd paath sansaar kee kaar.
Just reading of Vedas and other holy books has become like any other worldly task.
ਵੇਦ ਆਦਿਕ ਧਰਮ-ਪੁਸਤਕਾਂ ਦੇ (ਨਿਰੇ) ਪਾਠ ਤਾਂ ਦੁਨੀਆਵੀ ਵਿਹਾਰ (ਸਮਝੋ),
ਪੜ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਪੜ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਕਰਹਿ ਬੀਚਾਰ ॥
parhH parhH pandit karahi beechaar.
The Pandits read them, study them and contemplate them,
ਵਿਦਵਾਨ ਲੋਕ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੜ੍ਹ ਪੜ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਅਰਥ ਹੀ ਵਿਚਾਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਬੂਝੇ ਸਭ ਹੋਇ ਖੁਆਰ ॥
bin boojhay sabh ho-ay khu-aar.
But people are getting spiritually deteriorated without understanding their essence.
ਨਿਰੇ ਪਾਠ ਤੇ ਅਰਥ-ਵਿਚਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਤਾਂ ਲੁਕਾਈ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਹੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਉਤਰਸਿ ਪਾਰਿ ॥੧॥
naanak gurmukh utras paar. ||1||
O’ Nanak, only that person crosses over the worldly ocean of vices who follows the Guru’s teachings. ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹੀ (ਪਾਪਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਨੇਰੇ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਤਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਹਵਾਲੇ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥

First Guru:
ਸਬਦੈ ਸਾਦੁ ਨ ਆਇਓ ਨਾਮਿ ਨ ਲਗੋ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
sabdai saad na aa-i-o naam na lago pi-aar.
One who has never enjoyed the relish of the Guru’s word and has not been imbued with the love of Naam,
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ (ਕਦੇ) ਗੁਰ-ਸਬਦ ਦਾ ਰਸ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਇਆ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ (ਕਦੇ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣਿਆ,
ਰਸਨਾ ਫਿਕਾ ਬੋਲਣਾ ਨਿਤ ਨਿਤ ਹੋਇ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥
rasnaa fikaa bolnaa nit nit ho-ay khu-aar.
utters insipid words with his tongue and is disgraced day after day.
ਉਹ ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ ਫਿੱਕੇ ਬਚਨ ਬੋਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਪਇਐ ਕਿਰਤਿ ਕਮਾਵਣਾ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਮੇਟਣਹਾਰੁ ॥੨॥
naanak pa-i-ai kirat kamaavanaa ko-ay na maytanhaar. ||2||
O Nanak, one performs deeds according to his preordained destiny which no one can erase. ||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੀਵ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੰਸਕਾਰਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ ਬੰਦਾ ਇਸ ਬਣੇ ਹੋਏ ਗੇੜ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਟਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੨॥

Pauree:
ਜਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਾਲਾਹੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਸੋ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਏ ॥
je parabh saalaahay aapnaa so sobhaa paa-ay.
One who praises his God, receives honor.
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਸੋਭਾ ਖੱਟਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਦੂਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਸਚੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥
ha-umai vichahu door kar sach man vasaa-ay.
He drives out egotism from within and enshrines the eternal God in his mind.
ਮਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ ‘ਹਉਮੈ’ ਮਿਟਾ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਵਸਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਚੁ ਬਾਣੀ ਗੁਣ ਉਚਰੈ ਸਚਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
sach banee gun uchrai sachaa sukh paa-ay.
He sings God’s praises through the Guru’s divine words and receives celestial peace.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਉਚਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਅਸਲ ਸੁਖ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮੇਲੁ ਭਇਆ ਚਿਰੀ ਵਿਛੁੰਨਿਆ ਗੁਰ ਪੁਰਖਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥
mayl bha-i-aa chiree vichhunni-aa gur purakh milaa-ay.
He gets united with God after being separated from Him for a long time; the divine Guru brings about this union.
ਚਿਰ ਤੋਂ (ਰੱਬ ਨਾਲੋਂ) ਵਿਛੁੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਦਾ (ਮੁੜ ਰੱਬ ਨਾਲ) ਮੇਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮਰਦ ਨੇ (ਜੂ) ਮਿਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
ਮਨੁ ਮੈਲਾ ਇਵ ਸੁਧੁ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਏ ॥੧੭॥
man mailaa iv suDh hai har naam Dhi-aa-ay. ||17||
The mind, thus soiled with vices, becomes immaculate by lovingly remembering God’s Name. ||17||.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਮੈਲਾ ਮਨ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੭॥
ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੧ ॥

Shalok, First Guru:
ਕਾਇਆ ਕੂਮਲ ਫੁਲ ਗੁਣ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਪਸਿ ਮਾਲ ॥
kaa-i-aa koomal ful gun naanak gupas maal.
O’ Nanak, this body of ours is like a soft branch of a tree and the divine virtues are like flowers, only a rare fortunate person makes a garland of these virtues.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸਰੀਰ (ਮਾਨੋ, ਫੁੱਲਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੂਟਿਆਂ ਦੀ) ਕੂਮਲੀ ਹੈ, (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ) ਗੁਣ (ਇਸ ਕੋਮਲ ਟਹਣੀ ਨੂੰ, ਮਾਨੋ) ਫੁੱਲ ਹਨ, (ਕੋਈ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਬੰਦਾ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਫੁੱਲਾਂ ਦਾ) ਹਾਰ ਗੁੰਦਦਾ ਹੈ;
ਏਨੀ ਫੁਲੀ ਰਉ ਕਰੇ ਅਵਰ ਕਿ ਚੁਣੀਅਹਿ ਡਾਲ ॥੧॥
aynee fulee ra-o karay avar ke chunee-ah daal. ||1||
If one turns one’s mind towards these divine virtues-like flowers, then there is no need to look for any other flowers (as offerings for deities). ||1||
ਜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਫੁੱਲਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਲਗਨ ਲਾਏ ਤਾਂ (ਮੂਰਤੀਆਂ ਅੱਗੇ ਭੇਟ ਰੱਖਣ ਲਈ) ਹੋਰ ਡਾਲੀਆਂ ਚੁਣਨ ਦੀ ਕੀਹ ਲੋੜ? ॥੧॥

Second Guru:
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਨਾ ਬਸੰਤੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਘਰਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਕੰਤੁ ॥
naanak tinaa basant hai jinH ghar vasi-aa kant.
O’ Nanak,those soul-brides who have realized Husband-God within their hearts, they always remain delighted as if there is always spring season for them.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ (ਜੀਵ-) ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਖਸਮ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਭਾ ਦੀ ਬਸੰਤ ਰੁੱਤ ਆਈ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ;
ਜਿਨ ਕੇ ਕੰਤ ਦਿਸਾਪੁਰੀ ਸੇ ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਜਲੰਤ ॥੨॥
jin kay kant disaapuree say ahinis fireh jalant. ||2||
But those soul-brides, whose Husband-God is far away, live in the agony of separation at all the time. ||2||
ਪਰ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਖਸਮ ਪਰਦੇਸ ਵਿਚ (ਗਏ ਹੋਏ) ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਸੜਦੀਆਂ ਫਿਰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ॥੨॥
ਪਉੜੀ ॥

Pauree:
ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬਚਨੀ ॥
aapay bakhsay da-i-aa kar gur satgur bachnee.
If on His own, God bestows mercy and unites me with the immaculate word of the true Guru,
ਜੇਕਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਦਏ
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸੇਵੀ ਗੁਣ ਰਵਾ ਮਨੁ ਸਚੈ ਰਚਨੀ ॥
an-din sayvee gun ravaa man sachai rachnee.
only then with my mind absorbed in the eternal God, I could always lovingly remember Him and sing His praises.
ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਮਨ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਾਂ ਤੇਉਸਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਚੇਤੇ ਕਰਾਂ
ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਬੇਅੰਤੁ ਹੈ ਅੰਤੁ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਲਖਨੀ ॥
parabh mayraa bay-ant hai ant kinai na lakhnee.
My God is infinite and nobody has ever realized His limit.
ਮੇਰਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਹੈ ਕਿਸੇ ਜੀਵ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਇਆ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਚਰਣੀ ਲਗਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਤ ਜਪਨੀ ॥
satgur charnee lagi-aa har naam nit japnee.
It is only by following the true Guru’s teachings that one can always lovingly remember God’s Name,
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਨਿੱਤ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਜੋ ਇਛੈ ਸੋ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇਸੀ ਸਭਿ ਘਰੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਜਚਨੀ ॥੧੮॥
jo ichhai so fal paa-isee sabh gharai vich jachnee. ||18||
and receives the fruits of his desires; all his needs are fulfilled within himsels.||18||
(ਜੋ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ) ਉਹ ਜਿਸ ਫਲ ਦੀ ਤਾਂਘ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਲੋੜਾਂ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਪੂਰੀਆਂ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ,॥੧੮॥

ਪਹਿਲ ਬਸੰਤੈ ਆਗਮਨਿ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਮਉਲਿਓ ਸੋਇ ॥
pahil basantai aagman pahilaa ma-uli-o so-ay.
Before the coming of the first spring, it was God who blossomed and manifested Himself in this universe.
ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਬਸੰਤ ਰੁੱਤ ਆਉਣ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਦਾ ਖਿੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਤੁ ਮਉਲਿਐ ਸਭ ਮਉਲੀਐ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਨ ਮਉਲਿਹੁ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥
jit ma-uli-ai sabh ma-ulee-ai tiseh na ma-ulihu ko-ay. ||1||
By whose blossoming, everything blossoms; no one else causes Him to blossom.||1||
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਖਿੜਨ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਖਿੜਦੀ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਖਿੜਾਂਦਾ ॥੧॥
ਮਃ ੨ ॥

Second Guru:
ਪਹਿਲ ਬਸੰਤੈ ਆਗਮਨਿ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
pahil basantai aagman tis kaa karahu beechaar.
Let’s reflect on God, who flourished even before the first spring season.
ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ) ਦੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰੋ ਜੋ ਬਸੰਤ ਰੁੱਤ ਦੇ ਆਉਣ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋ ਸਾਲਾਹੀਐ ਜਿ ਸਭਸੈ ਦੇ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥੨॥
naanak so salaahee-ai je sabhsai day aaDhaar. ||2||
O’ Nanak, we should praise God who provides support to all. ||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰੀਏ ਜੋ ਸਭ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥

Second Guru:
ਮਿਲਿਐ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਨਾ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਜੇ ਹੋਇ ॥
mili-ai mili-aa naa milai milai mili-aa jay ho-ay.
One is not considered united with God just by saying so, one is considered truly united when he is united from within.
ਨਿਰਾ ਕਹਿਣ ਨਾਲ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹਾਂ ਮੇਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ, ਮੇਲ ਤਾਂ ਹੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੇ ਸਚੁ-ਮੁਚ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹੋਵੇ।
ਅੰਤਰ ਆਤਮੈ ਜੋ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਕਹੀਐ ਸੋਇ ॥੩॥
antar aatmai jo milai mili-aa kahee-ai so-ay. ||3||
yes, one can be truly called united with God, who is united with Him from within. ||3||
ਜੋ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਆਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲੇ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਆਖਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥

Pauree:
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਲਾਹੀਐ ਸਚੁ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥
har har naam salaahee-ai sach kaar kamaavai.
We should lovingly remember God’s Name and practice this truthful deed.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ (ਜੋ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ) ਇਹ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਕਾਰ ਸਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਦੂਜੀ ਕਾਰੈ ਲਗਿਆ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੋਨੀ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
doojee kaarai lagi-aa fir jonee paavai.
By engaging in deeds other than remembering God, one is cast in reincarnation again and again.
‘ਨਾਮ’ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਆਹਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਰੁੱਝਿਆ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤਿਆ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਾਮੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ॥
naam rati-aa naam paa-ee-ai naamay gun gaavai.
One Sings the praises of God and receives Naam by being imbued with the love of His Name.
‘ਨਾਮ’ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆਂ ‘ਨਾਮ’ ਹੀ ਕਮਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਹੀ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਈਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਲਾਹੀਐ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥
gur kai sabad salaahee-ai har naam samaavai.
One who sings God’s praises through the Guru’s word, remains merged in His Name.
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਗੁਰ-ਸਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਸਫਲ ਹੈ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਫਲ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੧੯॥
satgur sayvaa safal hai sayvi-ai fal paavai. ||19||
Following the teachings of the true Guru is fruitful; one receives the ultimate reward of Naam by following the Guru’s teachings . ||19||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰਨਾ ਬੜਾ ਗੁਣਕਾਰੀ ਹੈ, ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰਿਆਂ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਰੂਪ ਫਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੯॥

Shalok, Second Guru:
ਕਿਸ ਹੀ ਕੋਈ ਕੋਇ ਮੰਞੁ ਨਿਮਾਣੀ ਇਕੁ ਤੂ ॥
kis hee ko-ee ko-ay manj nimaanee ik too.
O’ God, some seek support from others, but for me, the lowly one, You are the only support.
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਕਿਸੇ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ (ਮਿਥਿਆ) ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ, ਕਿਸੇ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਨਿਮਾਣੀ ਦਾ ਇਕ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਤੂੰ ਹੈਂ।
