ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik-oNkaar satgur parsaad.
One eternal God, realized by the grace of the true Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮੇਰੈ ਹੀਅਰੈ ਰਤਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਬਸਿਆ ਗੁਰਿ ਹਾਥੁ ਧਰਿਓ ਮੇਰੈ ਮਾਥਾ ॥
mayrai hee-arai ratan naam har basi-aa gur haath Dhari-o mayrai maathaa.
When the Guru blessed me with his grace, the jewel like precious Name of God got enshrined in my heart.
ਜਦੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਿਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਹੱਥ ਰੱਖਿਆ, ਤਾਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਰਤਨ (ਵਰਗਾ ਕੀਮਤੀ) ਨਾਮ ਆ ਵੱਸਿਆ।
ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਦੁਖ ਉਤਰੇ ਗੁਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੀਓ ਰਿਨੁ ਲਾਥਾ ॥੧॥
janam janam kay kilbikh dukh utray gur naam dee-o rin laathaa. ||1||
When the Guru blessed me with Naam, my sins and sorrows accumulated over many births were washed off and my debt of breaths got paid off. ||1||
ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਾਪ ਤੇ ਦੁਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ। ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਨਾਮ ਬਖਸ਼ਿਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਕਰਜਾ ਲੱਥ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ॥੧॥
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਭਜੁ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਭਿ ਅਰਥਾ ॥
mayray man bhaj raam naam sabh arthaa.
O’ my mind, meditate on God’s Name; He is the benefactor of everything.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! (ਸਦਾ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਕਰ, (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਸਾਰੇ ਪਦਾਰਥ (ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ)।
ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਜੀਵਨੁ ਬਿਰਥਾ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur poorai har naam drirh-aa-i-aa bin naavai jeevan birthaa. rahaa-o.
The Perfect Guru has implanted God’s Name within my heart; life without Naam is worthless. ||Pause||
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਹੀ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਪੱਕਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। ਤੇ, ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਚਲੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਮੂੜ ਭਏ ਹੈ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਤੇ ਮੋਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਨਿਤ ਫਾਥਾ ॥
bin gur moorh bha-ay hai manmukh tay moh maa-i-aa nit faathaa.
Without the Guru’s teachings, the self-willed people remain foolishly ignorant; they are always entangled in the love for Maya, the worldly riches and power.
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਚਲਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੂਰਖ ਹੋਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਤਿਨ ਸਾਧੂ ਚਰਣ ਨ ਸੇਵੇ ਕਬਹੂ ਤਿਨ ਸਭੁ ਜਨਮੁ ਅਕਾਥਾ ॥੨॥
tin saaDhoo charan na sayvay kabhoo tin sabh janam akaathaa. ||2||
They never follow the Guru’s teachings; their entire life is totally useless. ||2||
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਕਦੇ ਭੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਮਰਾਉਂਦੇ,ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਚਲਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਜਿਨ ਸਾਧੂ ਚਰਣ ਸਾਧ ਪਗ ਸੇਵੇ ਤਿਨ ਸਫਲਿਓ ਜਨਮੁ ਸਨਾਥਾ ॥
jin saaDhoo charan saaDh pag sayvay tin safli-o janam sanaathaa.
Those who follow the Guru’s teachings, their lives become fruitful and they belong to God.
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਟਹਿਲ ਕਮਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਖਸਮ ਵਾਲੇ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਕਾਮਯਾਬ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਮੋ ਕਉ ਕੀਜੈ ਦਾਸੁ ਦਾਸ ਦਾਸਨ ਕੋ ਹਰਿ ਦਇਆ ਧਾਰਿ ਜਗੰਨਾਥਾ ॥੩॥
mo ka-o keejai daas daas daasan ko har da-i-aa Dhaar jagannaathaa. ||3||
O’ God, the master of the universe, bestow mercy on me and make me the humble servant of Your devotees. ||3||
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਹੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਨਾਥ! ਮੇਰੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਾਸ ਬਣਾ ਲੈ ॥੩॥
ਹਮ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਗਿਆਨਹੀਨ ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਕਿਉ ਚਾਲਹ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਪੰਥਾ ॥
ham anDhulay gi-aanheen agi-aanee ki-o chaalah maarag panthaa.
We are spiritually ignorant and are blinded by the love for Maya, so how can we follow the righteous path in life?
ਹੇ ਗੁਰੂ! ਅਸੀਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਹੋ ਰਹੇ ਹਾਂ, ਅਸੀਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਤੋਂ ਸੱਖਣੇ ਹਾਂ, ਅਸੀਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਦੱਸੇ ਹੋਏ ਜੀਵਨ-ਰਾਹ ਉੱਤੇ ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਟੁਰਸਕਦੇ ਹਾਂ l
ਹਮ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਕਉ ਗੁਰ ਅੰਚਲੁ ਦੀਜੈ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਚਲਹ ਮਿਲੰਥਾ ॥੪॥੧॥
ham anDhulay ka-o gur anchal deejai jan naanak challah milanthaa. ||4||1||
Devotee Nanak prays: O’ Guru, we are spiritually blind; bless us with divine wisdom so that we can follow the righteous path in life.||4||1||
ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਹੇ ਗੁਰੂ! ਸਾਨੂੰ ਅੰਨ੍ਹਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਪੱਲਾ ਫੜਾ, ਤਾਂ ਕਿ ਤੇਰੇ ਪੱਲੇ ਲੱਗ ਕੇ ਅਸੀਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਦੱਸੇ ਹੋਏ ਰਸਤੇ ਉਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਸਕੀਏ ॥੪॥੧॥

Raag Jaitsree, Fourth Guru:
ਹੀਰਾ ਲਾਲੁ ਅਮੋਲਕੁ ਹੈ ਭਾਰੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਗਾਹਕ ਮੀਕਾ ਕਾਖਾ ॥
heeraa laal amolak hai bhaaree bin gaahak meekaa kaakhaa.
A jewel-like precious Naam is invaluable but without a true devotee it is worth only a straw.
ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਉਹ ਹੀਰਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਲ ਨਹੀ ਪੈ ਸਕਦਾ ਪਰ ਚੰਗੇ ਗਾਹਕ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਕੱਖ ਦੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਰਤਨ ਗਾਹਕੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਾਧੂ ਦੇਖਿਓ ਤਬ ਰਤਨੁ ਬਿਕਾਨੋ ਲਾਖਾ ॥੧॥
ratan gaahak gur saaDhoo daykhi-o tab ratan bikaano laakhaa. ||1||
When the saint Guru, the true customer of this jewel-like Naam, saw it, to him it was extremely precious, as if it was worth millions. ||1||
ਜਦੋਂ ਇਸ ਰਤਨ ਦਾ ਗਾਹਕ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ, ਤਦੋਂ ਇਹ ਰਤਨ ਲੱਖੀਂ ਰੁਪਈਂ ਵਿਕਣ ਲੱਗ ਪਿਆ ॥੧॥
ਮੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਗੁਪਤ ਹੀਰੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖਾ ॥
mayrai man gupat heer har raakhaa.
God had kept this jewel like Naam hidden within my mind.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ-ਹੀਰਾ ਲੁਕਾ ਕੇ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ।
ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਓ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਾਧੂ ਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਹੀਰੁ ਪਰਾਖਾ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
deen da-i-aal milaa-i-o gur saaDhoo gur mili-ai heer paraakhaa. rahaa-o.
The merciful Master of the meek united me with the Guru, and upon meeting the Guru I realized the worth of that jewel-like precious Naam. ||pause||
ਦੀਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਉਸ ਹਰੀ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਣ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਂ ਉਹ ਹੀਰਾ ਪਰਖਲਿਆ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਕੋਠੀ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਅੰਧੇਰਾ ਤਿਨ ਘਰਿ ਰਤਨੁ ਨ ਲਾਖਾ ॥
manmukh kothee agi-aan anDhayraa tin ghar ratan na laakhaa.
The self-willed people are spiritual darkness and ignorance and they do not realize the existence of the invaluable Naam in their heart.
ਮਨਮੁਖਾਂਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਲੋਂ ਬੇ-ਸਮਝੀ ਦਾ ਹਨੇਰਾ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਤਾਹੀਏਂ) ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਨਾਮ-ਰਤਨ ਕਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਵੇਖਿਆ।
ਤੇ ਊਝੜਿ ਭਰਮਿ ਮੁਏ ਗਾਵਾਰੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਭੁਅੰਗ ਬਿਖੁ ਚਾਖਾ ॥੨॥
tay oojharh bharam mu-ay gaavaaree maa-i-aa bhu-ang bikh chaakhaa. ||2||
They always remain involved with the serpent like poisonous Maya; therefore,wandering in worldly illusion, these fools remain spiritually dead. ||2||
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਾਇਆ-ਸਪਣੀ (ਦੇ ਮੋਹ) ਦਾ ਜ਼ਹਿਰ ਖਾਂਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਉਹ ਮੂਰਖ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤੇ ਮਰੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੨॥
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਾਧ ਮੇਲਹੁ ਜਨ ਨੀਕੇ ਹਰਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਸਰਣਿ ਹਮ ਰਾਖਾ ॥
har har saaDh maylhu jan neekay har saaDhoo saran ham raakhaa.
O’ God, unite me with Your sublime saints and keep me in the Guru’s refuge.
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਮਿਲਾ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖ।
ਹਰਿ ਅੰਗੀਕਾਰੁ ਕਰਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹਮ ਪਰੇ ਭਾਗਿ ਤੁਮ ਪਾਖਾ ॥੩॥
har angeekaar karahu parabh su-aamee ham paray bhaag tum paakhaa. ||3||
O’ Master-God, make me Your own, I have come running to Your refuge.||3||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਮਾਲਕ!ਮੈਨੂੰ ਅਪਣਾ ਨਿੱਜ ਦਾ ਬਣਾ ਲੈ, ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਮੈਂ ਭੱਜ ਕੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆ ਪਿਆ ਹਾਂ ॥੩॥
ਜਿਹਵਾ ਕਿਆ ਗੁਣ ਆਖਿ ਵਖਾਣਹ ਤੁਮ ਵਡ ਅਗਮ ਵਡ ਪੁਰਖਾ ॥
jihvaa ki-aa gun aakh vakhaaneh tum vad agam vad purkhaa.
O’ God,You are great and unfathomable, the Greatest Being; what virtues of Yours can my tongue say and describe?.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਵੱਡਾ ਪੁਰਖ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਹੈਂ,ਮੇਰੀ ਜੀਭਤੇਰੇ ਕੇਹੜੇ ਕੇਹੜੇ ਗੁਣ ਆਖ ਕੇ ਦੱਸ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ?
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੀ ਪਾਖਾਣੁ ਡੁਬਤ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖਾ ॥੪॥੨॥
jan naanak har kirpaa Dhaaree paakhaan dubat har raakhaa. ||4||2||
O’ Nanak, one on whom God bestowed His grace, He saved that stone hearted person from drowning in the world ocean of vices.||4||2||
ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮੇਹਰ ਕੀਤੀ, ਉਸ ਪੱਥਰ ਨੂੰ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚ) ਡੁੱਬਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਬਚਾ ਲਿਆ ॥੪॥੨॥
