ਕਵਲ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸ ਭਏ ਸਾਧਸੰਗੇ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਬੁਧਿ ਤਿਆਗੀ ॥੨॥
kaval pargaas bha-ay saaDhsangay durmat buDh ti-aagee. ||2||
In the company of the Guru, their hearts blossom and they renounce evil thoughts. ||2||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਕੌਲ ਖਿੜ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਖੋਟੀ ਮਤਿ ਵਾਲੀ ਬੁੱਧੀ ਤਿਆਗ ਦੇਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੨॥
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਸਿਮਰੈ ਦੀਨ ਦੈਆਲਾ ॥
aath pahar har kay gun gaavai simrai deen dai-aalaa.
One who sings praises of God at all times and lovingly remembers the merciful Master of the meek,
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅੱਠੇ ਪਹਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਦੀਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਆਪਿ ਤਰੈ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਸਭ ਉਧਰੈ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਸਗਲ ਜੰਜਾਲਾ ॥੩॥
aap tarai sangat sabh uDhrai binsay sagal janjaalaa. ||3||
he along with his companions swims across the worldly ocean of vices and all his entanglements are destroyed. ||3||
ਉਹ ਆਪ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਲ ਰੱਖਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਸਾਥ ਭੀ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਮਾਇਕ-ਬੰਧਨ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੩॥
ਚਰਣ ਅਧਾਰੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਓਤਿ ਪੋਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਾਥਿ ॥
charan aDhaar tayraa parabh su-aamee ot pot parabh saath.
O’ Master, O’ God, You are through and through with that person who has your Name as the support of his life.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਬਣਾ ਲਿਆ, ਤੂੰ ਮਾਲਕ ਤਾਣੇ ਪੇਟੇ ਵਾਂਗ ਸਦਾ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਸਰਨਿ ਪਰਿਓ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੁਮਰੀ ਦੇ ਰਾਖਿਓ ਹਰਿ ਹਾਥ ॥੪॥੨॥੩੨॥
saran pari-o naanak parabh tumree day raakhi-o har haath. ||4||2||32||
Nanak says, O’ God, one who sought your refuge, You saved him from the worldly ocean of vices by extending Your support. ||4||2||32||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆ ਪਿਆ, ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਤੂੰ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੱਥ ਦੇ ਕੇ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾਂ ਲਿਆ ॥੪॥੨॥੩੨॥

One eternal God, realized by the grace of the true:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਏਕ ਨਗਰੀ ਪੰਚ ਚੋਰ ਬਸੀਅਲੇ ਬਰਜਤ ਚੋਰੀ ਧਾਵੈ ॥
ayk nagree panch chor basee-alay barjat choree Dhaavai.
Human body is like a city in which reside the five thieves (lust, anger, greed, ego and attachment); despite being warned, they keep stealing the spiritual virtues.
ਇਸ ਇਕੋ ਹੀ (ਸਰੀਰ-) ਨਗਰ ਵਿਚ (ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ) ਪੰਜ ਚੋਰ ਵੱਸੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ, ਵਰਜਦਿਆਂ ਭੀ (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਹਰੇਕ ਇਸ ਨਗਰ ਵਿਚਲੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਚੁਰਾਣ ਲਈ ਉੱਠ ਦੌੜਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਤ੍ਰਿਹਦਸ ਮਾਲ ਰਖੈ ਜੋ ਨਾਨਕ ਮੋਖ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਸੋ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੧॥
tarihdas maal rakhai jo naanak mokh mukat so paavai. ||1||
O’ Nanak, one who keeps his spiritual wealth safe from the three impulses (vice, virtue, and power) and ten sensory organs, obtains freedom from vices. ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਤਿੰਨ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਅਤੇ ਦਸ ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਰਮਾਇਆ ਬਚਾ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਪੰਜਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਚੇਤਹੁ ਬਾਸੁਦੇਉ ਬਨਵਾਲੀ ॥
chaytahu baasuday-o banvaalee.
Always remember the all-pervading God.
ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਜਗਤ-ਮਾਲਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਚੇਤੇ ਰੱਖੋ।
ਰਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਜਪਮਾਲੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
raam ridai japmaalee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Enshrine God in your heart, and keep reciting His Name like counting beads on a rosary. ||1||Pause||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾਓ ਤੇ (ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ) ਮਾਲਾ ਬਣਾਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਉਰਧ ਮੂਲ ਜਿਸੁ ਸਾਖ ਤਲਾਹਾ ਚਾਰਿ ਬੇਦ ਜਿਤੁ ਲਾਗੇ ॥
uraDh mool jis saakh talaahaa chaar bayd jit laagay.
world is like a tree, whose roots (Creator) are above and branches (expanse) are down, which are in the grip of Maya; the four vedas have been describing this power of Maya.
ਜਿਸ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੂਲ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚਾ ਹੈ, ਜਗਤ ਪਸਾਰਾ ਜਿਸ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਹੇਠ ਹੈ, ਚਾਰੇ ਵੇਦ ਜਿਸ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਬਲ ਦੇ ਜ਼ਿਕਰ) ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗੇ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ,
ਸਹਜ ਭਾਇ ਜਾਇ ਤੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਲਿਵ ਜਾਗੇ ॥੨॥
sahj bhaa-ay jaa-ay tay naanak paarbarahm liv jaagay. ||2||
O’ Nanak, Maya quietly moves away from those who attune their mind to God and remain alert from its (Maya’s) attacks. ||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਮਾਇਆ ਸਹਜੇ ਹੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹਟ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਹੱਲਿਆਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਸੁਚੇਤ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੨॥
ਪਾਰਜਾਤੁ ਘਰਿ ਆਗਨਿ ਮੇਰੈ ਪੁਹਪ ਪਤ੍ਰ ਤਤੁ ਡਾਲਾ ॥
paarjaat ghar aagan mayrai puhap patar tat daalaa.
I have realized God, the bestower of all blessings, in my heart, as if the wish fulfilling tree (parjat) along with its branches, leaves, flowers, and fruits has grown up in the courtyard of my own house.
ਉਹ (ਸਰਬ-ਇੱਛਾ-ਪੂਰਕ) ਪਾਰਜਾਤ (-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਆਂਗਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਗਟ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਪਾਰਜਾਤ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ) ਇਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਫੁੱਲ ਪੱਤਰ ਡਾਲੀਆਂ ਆਦਿਕ ਪਸਾਰਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਰਬ ਜੋਤਿ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਸੰਭੂ ਛੋਡਹੁ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਜੰਜਾਲਾ ॥੩॥
sarab jot niranjan sambhoo chhodahu bahut janjaalaa. ||3||
Enshrine that God in your heart whose light is pervading everywhere, who is immaculate and self-existent and renounce all worldly entanglements. ||3||
ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਉ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪਸਰ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਤੋਂ ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈ,ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਤੋਂ ਹੈ। ਅਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਬਹੁਤੇ ਜੰਜਾਲ ਛੱਡ ਦਿਓ ॥੩॥
ਸੁਣਿ ਸਿਖਵੰਤੇ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਬਿਨਵੈ ਛੋਡਹੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਜਾਲਾ ॥
sun sikhvantay naanak binvai chhodahu maa-i-aa jaalaa.
Nanak says, listen, O’ advice seeker, abandon the bonds of Maya.
ਹੇ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਸੁਣਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੋ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਸੁਣ! (ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਧਾਰਨ ਕਰ, ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੂੰ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਤਿਆਗ ਸਕੇਂਗਾ।
ਮਨਿ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ਏਕ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ਪੁਨਰਪਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਨ ਕਾਲਾ ॥੪॥
man beechaar ayk liv laagee punrap janam na kaalaa. ||4||
Reflect within your mind that by enshrining love for the One God, you will not go through the cycles of birth and death again. ||4|||
ਆਪਣੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਖਿਆਲ ਕਰ ਲੈ ਕਿ ਇਕ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਰਹੜੀ ਪਾਉਣ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਤੂੰ ਮੁੜ ਕੇ ਜੰਮਣ ਅਤੇ ਮਰਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਵਨੂੰਗਾ।॥੪॥
ਸੋ ਗੁਰੂ ਸੋ ਸਿਖੁ ਕਥੀਅਲੇ ਸੋ ਵੈਦੁ ਜਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਰੋਗੀ ॥
so guroo so sikh kathee-alay so vaid je jaanai rogee.
(He who has enshrined God in his heart) is said to be a true Guru, a true disciple or a true physician because he understands the maladies of the patients.
(ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ) ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਸਲ ਸਿੱਖ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਾਂ ਅਸਲ ਵੈਦ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਰੋਗੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਰੋਗ ਸਮਝ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਤਿਸੁ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਕੰਮੁ ਨ ਧੰਧਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਧੰਧੈ ਗਿਰਹੀ ਜੋਗੀ ॥੫॥
tis kaaran kamm na DhanDhaa naahee DhanDhai girhee jogee. ||5||
Being always attuned to God, he is not affected by deeds and duties; living as a householder, he remains attuned to God and does not get snared by Maya. ||5||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ-ਧੰਧਾ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਆਪ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ, ਉਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਫਸਦਾ, ਉਹ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਭੀ ਜੋਗੀ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ਤਜੀਅਲੇ ਲੋਭੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਤਿਸ ਮਾਇਆ ॥
kaam kroDh ahaNkaar tajee-alay lobh moh tis maa-i-aa.
He has renounced lust, anger, egotism, greed, attachment and love for Maya;
ਉਸ ਨੇ ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਤੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਤਿਆਗ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਲੋਭ ਮੋਹ ਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਛੱਡ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ,
ਮਨਿ ਤਤੁ ਅਵਿਗਤੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੬॥
man tat avigat Dhi-aa-i-aa gur parsaadee paa-i-aa. ||6||
within his mind, he has contemplated on the reality of the intangible God and has realized Him by the Guru’s grace. ||6||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਜਗਤ-ਮੂਲ ਅਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੬॥
ਗਿਆਨੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਸਭ ਦਾਤਿ ਕਥੀਅਲੇ ਸੇਤ ਬਰਨ ਸਭਿ ਦੂਤਾ ॥
gi-aan Dhi-aan sabh daat kathee-alay sayt baran sabh dootaa.
Spiritual wisdom and devotional worship can be said as a gift from God; the demons (of vices) are afraid of that person who receives this gift.
ਬ੍ਰਹਿਮ-ਗਿਆਤ ਅਤੇ ਬੰਦਗੀ ਇਹ ਸਭ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਹੀ ਕਹੀ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ, (ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਦਾਤ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੱਕ ਕੇ) ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਵੈਰੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਰੰਗ ਫੱਕ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕਮਲ ਮਧੁ ਤਾਸੁ ਰਸਾਦੰ ਜਾਗਤ ਨਾਹੀ ਸੂਤਾ ॥੭॥
barahm kamal maDh taas rasaadaN jaagat naahee sootaa. ||7||
He feels as if he is tasting the honey-like ambrosial nectar flowing from the lotus- like God’s Name; instead of falling asleep, he remains awake to the attacks of Maya . ||7||
ਉਹ ਮਾਨੋ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ-ਰੂਪ ਕਮਲ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਸ਼ਹਿਦ ਦਾ ਰਸ ਚੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਹੱਲਿਆਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਸੁਚੇਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਾਇਆ-ਮੋਹ ਦੀ ਨੀਂਦ ਵਿਚ ਗ਼ਾਫ਼ਿਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ॥੭॥
ਮਹਾ ਗੰਭੀਰ ਪਤ੍ਰ ਪਾਤਾਲਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਬ ਜੁਆਇਆ ॥
mahaa gambheer patar paataalaa naanak sarab ju-aa-i-aa.
O’ Nanak, God is unfathomable, through His creation, he is pervading the entire universe.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵੱਡੇ ਜਿਗਰੇ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਤਾਲ (ਸਾਰਾ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਜਿਸ ਪਾਰਜਾਤ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਦੇ ਪੱਤਰ (ਪਸਾਰਾ) ਹਨ, ਜੋ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ,
ਉਪਦੇਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਮ ਪੁਨਹਿ ਨ ਗਰਭੰ ਬਿਖੁ ਤਜਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਆਇਆ ॥੮॥੧॥
updays guroo mam puneh na garbhaN bikh taj amrit pee-aa-i-aa. ||8||1||
Through the Guru’s teachings, abandoning the poison of worldly attachments, I have partaken the ambrosial nectar of Naam; therefore I won’t have to go through the cycles of birth and death. ||8||1||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਜ਼ਹਰ ਤਿਆਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਨਾਮ-ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਪੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਹੁਣ ਮੇਰਾ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਗਰਭ-ਵਾਸ (ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ) ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ ॥੮॥੧॥

ਕਵਨ ਕਵਨ ਜਾਚਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦਾਤੇ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਅੰਤ ਨ ਪਰਹਿ ਸੁਮਾਰ ॥
kavan kavan jaacheh parabh daatay taa kay ant na pareh sumaar.
O’ God, the benefactor, those who beg of You, there is no limit or end to their count.
ਹੇ ਦਾਤਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਬੇਅੰਤ ਜੀਵ (ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਦਾਤਾਂ) ਮੰਗਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਦੇ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਸਕਦੇ।
ਜੈਸੀ ਭੂਖ ਹੋਇ ਅਭ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਤੂੰ ਸਮਰਥੁ ਸਚੁ ਦੇਵਣਹਾਰ ॥੧॥
jaisee bhookh ho-ay abh antar tooN samrath sach dayvanhaar. ||1||
O’ God, Whatever kind of desire is in their hearts, You are capable of fulfilling that; You are eternal and great benefactor. ||1||
ਹੇ ਦੇਣਹਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਹੀ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੇ ਧੁਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਮੰਗਣ ਦੀ ਭੁੱਖ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤੂੰ ਪੂਰੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹੈਂ ਤੇ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇਣ ਜੋਗਾ ਹੈਂ ॥੧॥
ਐ ਜੀ ਜਪੁ ਤਪੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਸਚੁ ਅਧਾਰ ॥
ai jee jap tap sanjam sach aDhaar.
O’ God, for me Your Name is worship, penance, austerity, and eternal support.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ! ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ (ਸਾਡੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਜਪ ਹੈ ਤਪ ਹੈ ਸੰਜਮ ਹੈ, ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ (ਸਾਡੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ,
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੇਹਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਤੇਰੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਭਰੇ ਭੰਡਾਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
har har naam deh sukh paa-ee-ai tayree bhagat bharay bhandaar. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O’ God, bless me with Your Name, celestial peace is received by meditating on Naam; Your treasures are full of devotional worship. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਦੇਹ, ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਸੁਖ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ। ਭਗਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਤੇਰੇ ਖਜਾਨੇ ਭਰੇ ਪਏ ਹਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਸੁੰਨ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਰਹਹਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੇ ਏਕਾ ਏਕੀ ਸਬਦੁ ਬੀਚਾਰ ॥
sunn samaaDh raheh liv laagay aykaa aykee sabad beechaar.
O’ God, then You were attuned to Yourself in a state of deep trance and You alone were reflecting on Your own idea.
(ਹੇ ਕਰਤਾਰ!) ਤਦੋਂ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਅਫੁਰ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਸਮਾਧੀ ਲਾਈ ਬੈਠਾ ਸੀ, ਤੂੰ ਇਕੱਲਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਇਰਾਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਸੀ,
ਜਲੁ ਥਲੁ ਧਰਣਿ ਗਗਨੁ ਤਹ ਨਾਹੀ ਆਪੇ ਆਪੁ ਕੀਆ ਕਰਤਾਰ ॥੨॥
jal thal Dharan gagan tah naahee aapay aap kee-aa kartaar. ||2||
When You revealed Yourself, there was no water, land, earth, nor the sky. ||2||
ਜਦੋਂ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਪਰਗਟ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ, ਤਦੋਂ ਨਾਹ ਪਾਣੀ ਸੀ, ਨਾਹ ਸੁੱਕ ਸੀ, ਨਾਹ ਧਰਤੀ ਸੀ, ਨਾਹ ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਸੀ ॥੨॥
ਨਾ ਤਦਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਗਨੁ ਨ ਛਾਇਆ ਨਾ ਸੂਰਜ ਚੰਦ ਨ ਜੋਤਿ ਅਪਾਰ ॥
naa tad maa-i-aa magan na chhaa-i-aa naa sooraj chand na jot apaar.
At that time, there was neither Maya nor anyone under its shadow (engrossed in it); there was no Sun, no moon and no other infinite light.
ਤਦੋਂ ਨਾਹ ਇਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਸੀ, ਨਾਹ ਇਸ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ ਸੀ, ਨਾਹ ਤਦੋਂ ਸੂਰਜ ਸੀ, ਨਾਹ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਾ ਸੀ, ਨਾਹ ਹੀ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਜੋਤਿ ਸੀ।
ਸਰਬ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਲੋਚਨ ਅਭ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਏਕਾ ਨਦਰਿ ਸੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਸਾਰ ॥੩॥
sarab darisat lochan abh antar aykaa nadar so taribhavan saar. ||3||
O ’God, Your all-seeing eye, which could see through all the three worlds, was within Yourself. ||3||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਸਕਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਅੱਖ, ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਭਵਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਾਰ ਲੈ ਸਕਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਹੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਤੇਰੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੀ ਅੰਦਰ ਟਿਕੀ ਹੋਈ ਸੀ ॥੩॥
