Raag Raamkalee, Fifth Guru:
ਕਿਸੁ ਭਰਵਾਸੈ ਬਿਚਰਹਿ ਭਵਨ ॥
kis bharvaasai bichrahi bhavan.
On whose support are you spending your life in this world?
ਤੂੰ ਕਿਸ ਦੇ ਸਹਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰਿਆ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ?
ਮੂੜ ਮੁਗਧ ਤੇਰਾ ਸੰਗੀ ਕਵਨ ॥
moorh mugaDh tayraa sangee kavan.
O’ ignorant fool, who is your true companion here?
ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ! ਤੇਰਾ ਇਥੇ ਕੌਣ ਸਾਥੀ ਹੈ?
ਰਾਮੁ ਸੰਗੀ ਤਿਸੁ ਗਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਨਹਿ ॥
raam sangee tis gat nahee jaaneh.
God is your only true companion, but you don’t know His supreme status.
ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਹੀ ਤੇਰਾ ਅਸਲ) ਸਾਥੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਹਾਨ ਮਰਤਬੇ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ।
ਪੰਚ ਬਟਵਾਰੇ ਸੇ ਮੀਤ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨਹਿ ॥੧॥
panch batvaaray say meet kar maaneh. ||1||
Instead, you deem the five thieves (lust, anger, greed, attachment and ego) as friends. ||1||
ਪੰਜ ਡਾਕੂਆ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾ) ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਸਮਝ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ ॥੧॥
ਸੋ ਘਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਜਿਤੁ ਉਧਰਹਿ ਮੀਤ ॥
so ghar sayv jit uDhrahi meet.
O’ my friend, stay with that Guru by following whose teachings you may be able to go across the worldly ocean of vices.
ਹੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ ! ਉਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਘਰ-ਦਰ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰ (ਨੂੰ ਮੱਲੀ ਰੱਖ), ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਤੂੰ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਸਕੇਂ।
ਗੁਣ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਰਵੀਅਹਿ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਕਰਿ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gun govind ravee-ah din raatee saaDhsang kar man kee pareet. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Imbue your mind with the love of the Guru’s company; in that company, we should sing the praises of God day and night. ||1||Pause||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਜੋੜ, ਉਥੇ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਗਾਏ ਜਾਣੇ ਚਾਹੀਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਜਨਮੁ ਬਿਹਾਨੋ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਿ ਅਰੁ ਵਾਦਿ ॥
janam bihaano ahaNkaar ar vaad.
The life of a person passes away in egotism and conflict.
ਜੀਵ ਦੀ ਉਮਰ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਝਗੜੇ-ਬਖੇੜੇ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਜ਼ਰ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਸਾਦਿ ॥
taripat na aavai bikhi-aa saad.
He is never satiated with the relishes of the worldly riches and power.
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਦ ਵਿਚ (ਇਸ ਦੀ ਕਦੇ) ਤਸੱਲੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ (ਕਦੇ ਰੱਜਦਾ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ)।
ਭਰਮਤ ਭਰਮਤ ਮਹਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
bharmat bharmat mahaa dukh paa-i-aa.
Wandering and running around (for Maya), he has endured great agony,
ਇਸ ਨੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਪਿਛੇ ) ਭਟਕਦਿਆਂ ਭਟਕਦਿਆਂ ਬੜਾ ਕਸ਼ਟ ਪਾਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਤਰੀ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਦੁਤਰ ਮਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
taree na jaa-ee dutar maa-i-aa. ||2||
and cannot swim across the ocean of Maya which is difficult to cross. ||2||
ਉਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਜਿਸ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਣਾ ਔਖਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਕਾਮਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਸੁ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥
kaam na aavai so kaar kamaavai.
One usually does those deeds which are of no use in the end.
ਜੀਵ ਸਦਾ ਉਹੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ (ਆਖ਼ਰ ਇਸ ਦੇ) ਕੰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੀ।
ਆਪਿ ਬੀਜਿ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਖਾਵੈ ॥
aap beej aapay hee khaavai.
He himself sows the seeds of bad deeds and suffers their consequences.
(ਮੰਦੇ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਬੀਜ) ਆਪ ਬੀਜ ਕੇ (ਫਿਰ) ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਦੁੱਖ-ਫਲ) ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਰਾਖਨ ਕਉ ਦੂਸਰ ਨਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥
raakhan ka-o doosar nahee ko-ay.
There is none other than God who could save one (from this situation).
(ਇਸ ਬਿਪਤਾ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਬਚਾਣ-ਜੋਗਾ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਤਉ ਨਿਸਤਰੈ ਜਉ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੩॥
ta-o nistarai ja-o kirpaa ho-ay. ||3||
When God bestows mercy, only then one can swim (across the world-ocean of Maya). ||3||
ਜਦੋਂ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ) ਮਿਹਰ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਇਸ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਪਤਿਤ ਪੁਨੀਤ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇਰੋ ਨਾਮੁ ॥
patit puneet parabh tayro naam.
O’ God! Your Name is the purifier of sinners,
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਡਿੱਗੇ ਹੋਇਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ,
ਅਪਨੇ ਦਾਸ ਕਉ ਕੀਜੈ ਦਾਨੁ ॥
apnay daas ka-o keejai daan.
please give the gift of your Name to Your devotee.
(ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਦਾਨ ਦੇਹ।
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਗਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਮੇਰੀ ॥
kar kirpaa parabh gat kar mayree.
O’ God! bestow mercy and liberate me (from the worldly bonds)
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ, ਅਤੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਕਰ। (ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਉੱਚੀ ਬਣਾ)।
ਸਰਣਿ ਗਹੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇਰੀ ॥੪॥੩੭॥੪੮॥
saran gahee naanak parabh tayree. ||4||37||48||
O’ God, Nanak has grasped on to Your shelter.||4||37||48||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੩੭॥੪੮॥

Raag Raamkalee, Fifth Guru:
ਇਹ ਲੋਕੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
ih lokay sukh paa-i-aa.
(One who has been blessed with the Guru’s teachings), has received spiritual peace in this world,
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਿੱਤ੍ਰਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਇਸ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ (ਆਤਮਕ) ਸੁਖ ਮਾਣਿਆ,
ਨਹੀ ਭੇਟਤ ਧਰਮ ਰਾਇਆ ॥
nahee bhaytat Dharam raa-i-aa.
and he does not have to face the judge of righteousness.
(ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ) ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਧਰਮਰਾਜ ਨਾਲ ਵਾਹ ਨਹੀ ਪੈਂਦਾ ।
ਹਰਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਸੋਭਾਵੰਤ ॥
har dargeh sobhaavant.
Such a person is deemed honorable in God’s presence,
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਸੋਭਾ ਵਾਲਾ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਫੁਨਿ ਗਰਭਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਬਸੰਤ ॥੧॥
fun garabh naahee basant. ||1||
and doesn’t enter the womb again (go through rounds of birth and death). ||1||
ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ (ਭੀ) ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦਾ ॥੧॥
ਜਾਨੀ ਸੰਤ ਕੀ ਮਿਤ੍ਰਾਈ ॥
jaanee sant kee mitraa-ee.
I have realized the worth of friendship (teachings) of the Guru.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਹੁਣ) ਮੈਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਦਰ ਸਮਝ ਲਈ ਹੈ।
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦੀਨੋ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਾ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਸੰਜੋਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kar kirpaa deeno har naamaa poorab sanjog milaa-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
My pre-ordained destiny has united me with the Guru; bestowing mercy he (the Guru) has blessed me with God’s Name. ||1||Pause||
(ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ) ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ। ਪੂਰਬਲੇ ਸੰਜੋਗ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਿੱਤ੍ਰਤਾ) ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਚਰਣਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਗਾ ॥
gur kai charan chit laagaa.
When my consciousness got attuned to the Guru’s immaculate word,
ਜਦੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ, ਮੇਰਾ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਸੀ,
ਧੰਨਿ ਧੰਨਿ ਸੰਜੋਗੁ ਸਭਾਗਾ ॥
Dhan Dhan sanjog sabhaagaa.
very blessed was that auspicious time of union.
ਉਹ ਸੰਜੋਗ ਮੁਬਾਰਿਕ ਸੀ, ਮੁਬਾਰਿਕ ਸੀ, ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਸੀ।
ਸੰਤ ਕੀ ਧੂਰਿ ਲਾਗੀ ਮੇਰੈ ਮਾਥੇ ॥
sant kee Dhoor laagee mayrai maathay.
When I humbly bowed before the Guru and followed his teachings,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨ-ਧੂੜ ਮੇਰੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਲੱਗੀ,
ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਦੁਖ ਸਗਲੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਲਾਥੇ ॥੨॥
kilvikh dukh saglay mayray laathay. ||2||
all my sins and sorrows vanished. ||2||
ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਪ ਤੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਏ ॥੨॥
ਸਾਧ ਕੀ ਸਚੁ ਟਹਲ ਕਮਾਨੀ ॥
saaDh kee sach tahal kamaanee.
When people truly follow the Guru’s teachings,
ਜਦੋਂ ਜੀਵ ਸਰਧਾ ਧਾਰ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਟਹਿਲ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਤਬ ਹੋਏ ਮਨ ਸੁਧ ਪਰਾਨੀ ॥
tab ho-ay man suDh paraanee.
O mortal, then their minds become immaculate.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ! ਤਦੋਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਜਨ ਕਾ ਸਫਲ ਦਰਸੁ ਡੀਠਾ ॥
jan kaa safal daras deethaa.
One who has seen the fruitful sight of the Guru,
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਫਲਦਾਇਕ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ,
ਨਾਮੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਕਾ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਵੂਠਾ ॥੩॥
naam parabhoo kaa ghat ghat voothaa. ||3||
he has experienced God’s Name pervading each and every heart. ||3||
ਉਸ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹਰੇਕ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ॥੩॥
ਮਿਟਾਨੇ ਸਭਿ ਕਲਿ ਕਲੇਸ ॥
mitaanay sabh kal kalays.
All the agonies and sufferings vanish (by following the Guru’s teachings),
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਸਾਰੇ (ਮਾਨਸਕ) ਝਗੜੇ ਤੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਜਿਸ ਤੇ ਉਪਜੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਹਿ ਪਰਵੇਸ ॥
jis tay upjay tis meh parvays.
and people merge into that God, from whom they originated.
ਜਿਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਜੀਵ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ ਉਸੇ ਵਿਚ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਲੀਨਤਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਪ੍ਰਗਟੇ ਆਨੂਪ ਗੋੁਵਿੰਦ ॥ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪੂਰੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਖਸਿੰਦ ॥੪॥੩੮॥੪੯॥
pargatay aanoop govind. parabh pooray naanak bakhsind. ||4||38||49||
O’ Nanak, the incomparably beautiful, perfect and the benefactor God has manifested in my heart. ||4||38||49||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਲਾਸਨੀ ਸੁੰਦਰ, ਪੂਰਨ ਅਤੇ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਣਹਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਗਟ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ ॥੪॥੩੮॥੪੯॥

Raag Raamkalee, Fifth Guru:
ਗਊ ਕਉ ਚਾਰੇ ਸਾਰਦੂਲੁ ॥
ga-oo ka-o chaaray saardool.
When by God’s grace the mind becomes strong (free of vices) then it controls the sensory organs, as if a tiger is leading a cow to the pasture.
(ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਾਰ ਤੋਂ ਬਚ ਕੇ) ਸ਼ੇਰ (ਹੋਇਆ ਮਨ) ਗਿਆਨ-ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਉਡੀ ਕਾ ਲਖ ਹੂਆ ਮੂਲੁ ॥
ka-udee kaa lakh hoo-aa mool.
One whose worth used to be pennies, is now became precious as if he is a millionaire.
ਜੋ ਜੀਵ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਕੌਡੀ ਸਮਾਨ ਤੁੱਛ ਹਸਤੀ ਵਾਲਾ ਸੀ, ਹੁਣ ਉਸ) ਦਾ ਮੁੱਲ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਲੱਖਾਂ ਰੁਪਏ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ।
ਬਕਰੀ ਕਉ ਹਸਤੀ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲੇ ॥ ਅਪਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲੇ ॥੧॥
bakree ka-o hastee partipaalay. apnaa parabh nadar nihaalay. ||1||
When God bestows His glance of grace, the egoistic mind becomes so humble, as if an elephant is providing sustenance to a goat ||1||
ਜਦੋਂ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਨਾਲ ਤੱਕਦਾ ਹੈ,ਤਦੋ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ਮਨ ਗਰੀਬੀ ਸੁਭਾਉ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਿ ਹਾਥੀ ਬੱਕਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਭਾਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ॥੧॥
ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮੇਰੇ ॥
kirpaa niDhaan pareetam parabh mayray.
O’ my beloved God, the treasure of mercy,
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ,
ਬਰਨਿ ਨ ਸਾਕਉ ਬਹੁ ਗੁਨ ਤੇਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
baran na saaka-o baho gun tayray. ||1|| rahaa-o.
I cannot even describe Your many glorious Virtues. ||1||Pause||
ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਦੀਸਤ ਮਾਸੁ ਨ ਖਾਇ ਬਿਲਾਈ ॥
deesat maas na khaa-ay bilaa-ee.
When God bestows grace then mind does not run after worldly riches, as if the cat sees the meat, but does not eat it.
ਜਦੋਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਨਾਲ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮਨ ਮਾਇਕ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਵਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਤੱਕਦਾ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਿ ਬਿੱਲੀ ਦਿੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਮਾਸ ਨਹੀਂ ਖਾਂਦੀ l
ਮਹਾ ਕਸਾਬਿ ਛੁਰੀ ਸਟਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
mahaa kasaab chhuree sat paa-ee.
With God’s grace the cruelest mind becomes so humble, as if the most heartless butcher has thrown away his knife.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ) ਵੱਡੇ ਕਸਾਈ (ਨਿਰਦਈ ਮਨ) ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੱਥੋਂ ਛੁਰੀ ਸੁੱਟ ਦਿੱਤੀ (ਨਿਰਦਇਤਾ ਦਾ ਸੁਭਾਉ ਤਿਆਗ ਦਿੱਤਾ)।
ਕਰਣਹਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਵੂਠਾ ॥
karanhaar parabh hirdai voothaa.
When the Creator God manifested in one’s heart,
ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਕਰ ਸਕਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜਦੋਂ (ਆਪਣੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ) ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਿਆ,
ਫਾਥੀ ਮਛੁਲੀ ਕਾ ਜਾਲਾ ਤੂਟਾ ॥੨॥
faathee machhulee kaa jaalaa tootaa. ||2||
his soul feels so relieved from the entanglements of worldly riches, as if a fish caught in the net has broken loose out of it. ||2||
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਜਾਲ ਇਂਝ ਟੁੱਟ ਗਿਆ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਜਾਲ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੀ ਹੋਈ ਮੱਛੀ ਦਾ ਜਾਲ ਟੁੱਟ ਗਿਆ ॥੨॥
ਸੂਕੇ ਕਾਸਟ ਹਰੇ ਚਲੂਲ ॥ ਊਚੈ ਥਲਿ ਫੂਲੇ ਕਮਲ ਅਨੂਪ ॥
sookay kaasat haray chalool.oochai thal foolay kamal anoop.
When God casts His glance of grace, then one’s sad mind feels so delighted, as if a dry wood has blossomed into green leaves and red flowers and lotuses of unparalleled beauty have blossomed on a high desert.
ਮਿਹਰ ਹੋਈ ਤਾਂ) ਸੁੱਕੇ ਹੋਏ ਕਾਠ ਚੁਹ-ਚੁਹ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਰੇ ਹੋ ਗਏ (ਮਨ ਦਾ ਰੁੱਖਾਪਨ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਦਇਆ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਗਈ), ਅਤੇ ਉੱਚੇ ਟਿੱਬੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਕੌਲ-ਫੁੱਲ ਖਿੜ ਪਏ
ਅਗਨਿ ਨਿਵਾਰੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਦੇਵ ॥

The Divine true Guru quenched the fierce yearning for worldly riches,
ਪਿਆਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ-ਪ੍ਰਮੇਸ਼ਰ ਨੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ,
ਸੇਵਕੁ ਅਪਨੀ ਲਾਇਓ ਸੇਵ ॥੩॥
sayvak apnee laa-i-o sayv. ||3||
and engaged His devotee to His devotional worship. ||3||
ਸੇਵਕ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਲਿਆ ॥੩॥
ਅਕਿਰਤਘਣਾ ਕਾ ਕਰੇ ਉਧਾਰੁ ॥
akirat-ghanaa kaa karay uDhaar.
God saves even the ungrateful beings.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਹ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਨਾ-ਸ਼ੁਕਰਿਆਂ ਦਾ (ਵੀ) ਪਾਰ-ਉਤਾਰਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਹੈ ਸਦਾ ਦਇਆਰੁ ॥
parabh mayraa hai sadaa da-i-aar.
My God is forever merciful.
ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਦਾ ਦਇਆ ਦਾ ਘਰ ਹੈ।
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਕਾ ਸਦਾ ਸਹਾਈ ॥
sant janaa kaa sadaa sahaa-ee.
God is always a helper of His saints,
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਮਦਦਗਾਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥੪॥੩੯॥੫੦॥
charan kamal naanak sarnaa-ee. ||4||39||50||
O’ Nanak! His saints always remain attuned to His immaculate Name. ||4||39||50||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਸਦਾ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੪॥੩੯॥੫੦॥
