Raag Raamkalee, Fifth Guru:
ਅੰਗੀਕਾਰੁ ਕੀਆ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਅਪਨੈ ਬੈਰੀ ਸਗਲੇ ਸਾਧੇ ॥
angeekaar kee-aa parabh apnai bairee saglay saaDhay.
God has accepted me as His devotee, and by His grace I have subdued all my internal enemies (vices).
ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਚਰਨੀਂ ਲਾ ਲਿਆ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ (ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ) ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਵੈਰੀ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ।
ਜਿਨਿ ਬੈਰੀ ਹੈ ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਲੂਟਿਆ ਤੇ ਬੈਰੀ ਲੈ ਬਾਧੇ ॥੧॥
jin bairee hai ih jag looti-aa tay bairee lai baaDhay. ||1||
Those internal enemies have robbed the people of this world, but (by His grace) I have completely controlled them all. ||1||
(ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ) ਜਿਸ ਜਿਸ ਵੈਰੀ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਜਗਤ ਲੁੱਟ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਵੈਰੀ ਫੜ ਕੇ ਬੰਨ੍ਹ ਦਿੱਤੇ ॥੧॥
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੁ ਮੇਰਾ ॥
satgur parmaysar mayraa.
The true Guru is my supreme God.
ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਸ਼੍ਰੋਮਣੀ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਹਨ।
ਅਨਿਕ ਰਾਜ ਭੋਗ ਰਸ ਮਾਣੀ ਨਾਉ ਜਪੀ ਭਰਵਾਸਾ ਤੇਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
anik raaj bhog ras maanee naa-o japee bharvaasaa tayraa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O’ God, by reciting Naam I feel so elated as if I am enjoying the pleasures of power and tasty delights; bless me that I may continue meditating on Naam and have faith in You. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ (ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ) ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ (ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤ ਨਾਲ ਇਉਂ ਜਾਪਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਮੈਂ ਰਾਜ ਦੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਭੋਗ ਤੇ ਰਸ ਮਾਣ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਚੀਤਿ ਨ ਆਵਸਿ ਦੂਜੀ ਬਾਤਾ ਸਿਰ ਊਪਰਿ ਰਖਵਾਰਾ ॥
cheet na aavas doojee baataa sir oopar rakhvaaraa.
O’ my friend, now, except Naam, no other thing even crosses my mind and I feel that God is always by my side as my protector.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ) ਸਿਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਰਾਖਾ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ, ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਦਾ) ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਫੁਰਨਾ ਉਠਦਾ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਬੇਪਰਵਾਹੁ ਰਹਤ ਹੈ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਇਕ ਨਾਮ ਕੈ ਆਧਾਰਾ ॥੨॥
bayparvaahu rahat hai su-aamee ik naam kai aaDhaaraa. ||2||
My Master-God always remains care free, and I live only on the support of His Name. ||2||
ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ, ਜੋ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹ ਰਹਿਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ ||2||
ਪੂਰਨ ਹੋਇ ਮਿਲਿਓ ਸੁਖਦਾਈ ਊਨ ਨ ਕਾਈ ਬਾਤਾ ॥
pooran ho-ay mili-o sukh-daa-ee oon na kaa-ee baataa.
O’ my friends, a person who realizes the bliss-giving God, attains a higher spiritual status, and then he is no longer dependent on anything else.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ (ਉੱਚੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਨਾਲ) ਭਰਪੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਕਿਸੇ ਗੱਲੇ ਮੁਥਾਜ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ।
ਤਤੁ ਸਾਰੁ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਛੋਡਿ ਨ ਕਤਹੂ ਜਾਤਾ ॥੩॥
tat saar param pad paa-i-aa chhod na kathoo jaataa. ||3||
Such a person realizes the primal God and achieved the higher spiritual state, forsaking which he does not wander anywhere. ||3||
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਮੂਲ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਭ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,, ਉਹ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਦਰਜਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਪਾਸੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਭਟਕਦਾ ॥੩॥
ਬਰਨਿ ਨ ਸਾਕਉ ਜੈਸਾ ਤੂ ਹੈ ਸਾਚੇ ਅਲਖ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
baran na saaka-o jaisaa too hai saachay alakh apaaraa.
O’ the incomprehensible, infinite and true Master-God, I cannot describe what You look like,
ਹੇ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ! ਹੇ ਅਲੱਖ! ਹੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ! ਮੈਂ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਕਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਅਤੁਲ ਅਥਾਹ ਅਡੋਲ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਖਸਮੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ॥੪॥੫॥
atul athaah adol su-aamee naanak khasam hamaaraa. ||4||5||
O’ Nanak, You are immeasurable, unfathomable, and unwavering, and You are my Master. ||4||5||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਹੇ ਬੇ-ਮਿਸਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਅਥਾਹ! ਹੇ ਅਡੋਲ ਮਾਲਕ! ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਖਸਮ ਹੈਂ ॥੪॥੫॥

ਤੂ ਦਾਨਾ ਤੂ ਅਬਿਚਲੁ ਤੂਹੀ ਤੂ ਜਾਤਿ ਮੇਰੀ ਪਾਤੀ ॥
too daanaa too abichal toohee too jaat mayree paatee.
O’ God, You are wise and You are eternal; for me, You are my social status and my honor.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ! ਤੂੰ ਸਿਆਣਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਾਤ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਕੁਲ ਹੈਂ (ਉੱਚੀ ਜਾਤਿ ਕੁਲ ਦਾ ਮਾਣ ਹੋਣ ਦੇ ਥਾਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਹੀ ਭਰੋਸਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਹੈਂ)।
ਤੂ ਅਡੋਲੁ ਕਦੇ ਡੋਲਹਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਤਾ ਹਮ ਕੈਸੀ ਤਾਤੀ ॥੧॥
too adol kaday doleh naahee taa ham kaisee taatee. ||1||
O’ God, You are always stable and never waver, so why should I worry at all? ||1||
ਹੇ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ! ਤੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਟਾਕਰੇ ਤੇ ਕਦੇ ਡੋਲਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਜੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਰਹੇ ਤਾਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਕੋਈ ਚਿੰਤਾ-ਫ਼ਿਕਰ ਪੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੧॥
ਏਕੈ ਏਕੈ ਏਕ ਤੂਹੀ ॥
aikai aikai ayk toohee.
O’ God, (for us human beings) You alone are the One and only One;
(ਅਸਾਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ) ਇਕ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ (ਖਸਮ) ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਹੈਂ।
ਏਕੈ ਏਕੈ ਤੂ ਰਾਇਆ ॥
aikai aikai too raa-i-aa.
You alone are the one and only true King.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ! ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਇਕ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ (ਖਸਮ) ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਹੈਂ।
ਤਉ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ta-o kirpaa tay sukh paa-i-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
It is only by Your grace, that we have found the inner peace. ||1||Pause||
ਤੇਰੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਅਸੀਂ ਸੁਖ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਾਂ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਤੂ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਹਮ ਹੰਸ ਤੁਮਾਰੇ ਤੁਮ ਮਹਿ ਮਾਣਕ ਲਾਲਾ ॥
too saagar ham hans tumaaray tum meh maanak laalaa.
O’ God, You are like the ocean and we are like Your swans; by Your grace, we pick the jewels and rubies (of Your Name) from that ocean.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ! ਤੂੰ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਹੈਂ, ਅਸੀਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਹੰਸ ਹਾਂ, ਤੇਰੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ (ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ) ਮੋਤੀ ਤੇ ਲਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਾਂ।
ਤੁਮ ਦੇਵਹੁ ਤਿਲੁ ਸੰਕ ਨ ਮਾਨਹੁ ਹਮ ਭੁੰਚਹ ਸਦਾ ਨਿਹਾਲਾ ॥੨॥
tum dayvhu til sank na maanhu ham bhunchah sadaa nihaalaa. ||2||
You do not hesitate at all to bless us with these precious jewels; enjoying these jewels (of Naam) we are always in bliss. ||2||
(ਇਹ ਮੋਤੀ ਲਾਲ) ਤੂੰ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ (ਸਾਡੇ ਔਗੁਣਾਂ ਵਲ ਤੱਕ ਕੇ) ਤੂੰ ਦੇਣੋਂ ਰਤਾ ਭਰ ਭੀ ਝਿਜਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ। ਅਸੀਂ ਜੀਵ ਉਹ ਮੋਤੀ ਲਾਲ ਸਦਾ ਵਰਤਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਾਂ ॥੨॥
ਹਮ ਬਾਰਿਕ ਤੁਮ ਪਿਤਾ ਹਮਾਰੇ ਤੁਮ ਮੁਖਿ ਦੇਵਹੁ ਖੀਰਾ ॥
ham baarik tum pitaa hamaaray tum mukh dayvhu kheeraa.
O’ God, we all human beings are Your children, and You are our Father; You put the milk ( life-sustaining Naam) in our mouth.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ! ਅਸੀਂ ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰੇ ਬੱਚੇ ਹਾਂ, ਤੂੰ ਸਾਡਾ ਪਿਉ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਸਾਡੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਵਿਚ ਦੁੱਧ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਹਮ ਖੇਲਹ ਸਭਿ ਲਾਡ ਲਡਾਵਹ ਤੁਮ ਸਦ ਗੁਣੀ ਗਹੀਰਾ ॥੩॥
ham khaylah sabh laad ladaaveh tum sad gunee gaheeraa. ||3||
We play and fondle with You and You always ignore our flaws; You are a treasure of virtues and always remain profound. ||3||
(ਤੇਰੀ ਗੋਦ ਵਿਚ) ਅਸੀਂ ਖੇਡਦੇ ਹਾਂ, ਸਾਰੇ ਲਾਡ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਾਂ, ਤੂੰ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਸਦਾ ਗੰਭੀਰ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈਂ (ਅਸਾਂ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਔਗੁਣਾਂ ਵਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਤੱਕਦਾ) ॥੩॥
ਤੁਮ ਪੂਰਨ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹੇ ਸੰਪੂਰਨ ਹਮ ਭੀ ਸੰਗਿ ਅਘਾਏ ॥
tum pooran poor rahay sampooran ham bhee sang aghaa-ay.
O’ God, You are all-pervading and perfect in every way; by Your grace, we also feel satiated.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ! ਤੂੰ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈਂ, ਮੁਕੰਮਲ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈਂ, ਅਸੀਂ ਜੀਵ ਭੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਵਲੋਂ) ਰੱਜੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਾਂ।
ਮਿਲਤ ਮਿਲਤ ਮਿਲਤ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਏ ॥੪॥੬॥
milat milat milat mil rahi-aa naanak kahan na jaa-ay. ||4||6||
O’ Nanak, upon realizing God, I am so merged in His divine word that I cannot even describe the spiritual state of my mind. ||4||6||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ ਦੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਜੀਵ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ) ਮਿਲਣ ਦਾ ਜਤਨ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਉਸ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਉਸ ਜੀਵ ਦੀ ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਦਾ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੪॥੬॥

ਕਰ ਕਰਿ ਤਾਲ ਪਖਾਵਜੁ ਨੈਨਹੁ ਮਾਥੈ ਵਜਹਿ ਰਬਾਬਾ ॥
kar kar taal pakhaavaj nainhu maathai vajeh rabaabaa.
Our hands are busy collecting worldly wealth as if they are sounding cymbals, our eyes are looking at the material things as if they are playing tambourine; the destiny inscribed on our forehead is like playing the strings of Guitar.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ) ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ (ਲਿਖੇ ਲੇਖ, ਮਾਨੋ,) ਰਬਾਬ ਵੱਜ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਹੱਥਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਛੈਣੇ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਅਤੇ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤਬਲਾ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ (ਹਰ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਨਾਚ ਨੱਚ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਹੱਥ ਮਾਇਆ ਕਮਾਣ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗੇ ਪਏ ਹਨ, ਅੱਖਾਂ ਮਾਇਕ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਵੇਖ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਹਨ)।
ਕਰਨਹੁ ਮਧੁ ਬਾਸੁਰੀ ਬਾਜੈ ਜਿਹਵਾ ਧੁਨਿ ਆਗਾਜਾ ॥
karnahu maDh baasuree baajai jihvaa Dhun aagaajaa.
The sound of Maya coming into our ears is like the melodious sound of a flute, and speaking with the tongue is like playing a melodious tune.
ਕੰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਸ੍ਰੋਤ ਮਾਨੋ,) ਮਿੱਠੀ (ਸੁਰ ਵਾਲੀ) ਬੰਸਰੀ ਵੱਜ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ, (ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ) ਜੀਭ ਦਾ ਚਸਕਾ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਰਾਗ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਿਰਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਿ ਮਨੂਆ ਨਾਚੈ ਆਣੇ ਘੂਘਰ ਸਾਜਾ ॥੧॥
nirat karay kar manoo-aa naachai aanay ghooghar saajaa. ||1||
Adorning itself with anklets of worldly desires, the mind is doing the dance choreographed by God. ||1||
(ਪਿਛਲੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਸਕਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਘੁੰਘਰੂ ਆਦਿਕ ਸਾਜ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਹੱਥਾਂ ਤੇ) ਨੱਚ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਰਾਮ ਕੋ ਨਿਰਤਿਕਾਰੀ ॥
raam ko nirtikaaree.
(O’ my friends,) this world is like a dance being choreographed by God.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦੀ ਰਚੀ ਰਚਨਾ) ਦਾ ਨਾਚ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਪੇਖੈ ਪੇਖਨਹਾਰੁ ਦਇਆਲਾ ਜੇਤਾ ਸਾਜੁ ਸੀਗਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
paykhai paykhanhaar da-i-aalaa jaytaa saaj seegaaree. ||1|| rahaa-o.
The merciful God is supervising the entire dance show along with all its instruments and other paraphernalia. ||1||Pause||
(ਇਸ ਨਾਚ ਨੂੰ) ਵੇਖਣ ਦੀ ਸਮਰਥਾ ਵਾਲਾ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਨਾਚ ਦੇ) ਇਸ ਸਾਰੇ ਸਾਜ ਸਿੰਗਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਆਪ ਵੇਖ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਆਖਾਰ ਮੰਡਲੀ ਧਰਣਿ ਸਬਾਈ ਊਪਰਿ ਗਗਨੁ ਚੰਦੋਆ ॥
aakhaar mandlee Dharan sabaa-ee oopar gagan chando-aa.
The whole earth is like a dance stage, with the sky like a canopy overhead.
ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਨੱਚਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਸਾਰੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਅਖਾੜਾ ਬਣੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਦੇ ਉੱਪਰ ਆਕਾਸ਼-ਚੰਦੋਆ ਬਣਿਆ ਤਣਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਪਵਨੁ ਵਿਚੋਲਾ ਕਰਤ ਇਕੇਲਾ ਜਲ ਤੇ ਓਪਤਿ ਹੋਆ ॥
pavan vicholaa karat ikaylaa jal tay opat ho-aa.
Every breath is the mediator, which brings about the union between the human body formed from water and air.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਪਾਣੀ ਤੋਂ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਜਿੰਦ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਕਰਾਈ ਰੱਖਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਚੱਲ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਰੇਕ) ਸੁਆਸ ਹੈ।
ਪੰਚ ਤਤੁ ਕਰਿ ਪੁਤਰਾ ਕੀਨਾ ਕਿਰਤ ਮਿਲਾਵਾ ਹੋਆ ॥੨॥
panch tat kar putraa keenaa kirat milaavaa ho-aa. ||2||
God has created this puppet-like human body by the combination of five elements (air, water, fire, earth, and ether) pursuant to one’s past deeds.||2||
ਪੰਜ ਤੱਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਾ ਕੇ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਦਾ) ਸਰੀਰ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ। (ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ) ਕਰਮਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਸਰੀਰ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਚੰਦੁ ਸੂਰਜੁ ਦੁਇ ਜਰੇ ਚਰਾਗਾ ਚਹੁ ਕੁੰਟ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਰਾਖੇ ॥
chand sooraj du-ay jaray charaagaa chahu kunt bheetar raakhay.
O’ my friends, (in this dancing arena), God has situated the sun and the moon, like the two lamps, for illuminating all four corners of the world.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਨਿਰਤ-ਕਾਰੀ ਵਾਲੇ ਇਸ ਧਰਤਿ-ਅਖਾੜੇ ਵਿਚ ਚੰਦ ਅਤੇ ਸੂਰਜ ਦੋ ਦੀਵੇ ਬਲ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਚੌਹੀਂ ਪਾਸੀਂ ਚਾਨਣ ਦੇਣ ਲਈ ਟਿਕਾਏ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ।
ਦਸ ਪਾਤਉ ਪੰਚ ਸੰਗੀਤਾ ਏਕੈ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਸਾਥੇ ॥
das paata-o panch sangeetaa aikai bheetar saathay.
(In every person) there are ten sense-faculties and five vices (lust, anger, greed, attachment and ego), all of which are found together in the human body.
(ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ) ਦਸ ਇੰਦ੍ਰੇ ਅਤੇ ਪੰਜ (ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ) ਡੂੰਮ ਇਕੋ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਹਨ।
ਭਿੰਨ ਭਿੰਨ ਹੋਇ ਭਾਵ ਦਿਖਾਵਹਿ ਸਭਹੁ ਨਿਰਾਰੀ ਭਾਖੇ ॥੩॥
bhinn bhinn ho-ay bhaav dikhaaveh sabhahu niraaree bhaakhay. ||3||
All these sensory organs and vices individually exhibit their poses and gestures, and they all have their separate worldly desires.||3||
ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਆਪੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਾਵ (ਕਲੋਲ) ਵਿਖਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਸਭਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਖਰੀ ਵੱਖਰੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਨਾ (ਕਾਮਨਾ) ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਘਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਨਿਰਤਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਵਾਜੈ ਤੂਰਾ ॥
ghar ghar nirat hovai din raatee ghat ghat vaajai tooraa.
O’ my friend, such a dance is being performed every day and night in the heart of each and every person, as if the flute of worldly desires is playing in every heart.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਹਰੇਕ (ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਹਰੇਕ) ਇੰਦ੍ਰੇ ਵਿਚ ਇਹ ਨਾਚ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਵਾਜਾ ਵੱਜ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਏਕਿ ਨਚਾਵਹਿ ਏਕਿ ਭਵਾਵਹਿ ਇਕਿ ਆਇ ਜਾਇ ਹੋਇ ਧੂਰਾ ॥
ayk nachaaveh ayk bhavaaveh ik aa-ay jaa-ay ho-ay Dhooraa.
God Keeps some engrossed in Maya as if dancing in its pursuit, and keeps some in the cycle of birth and death, and still some get reduced to dust in the process of reincarnation.
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਕਈ ਵਾਜੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਚਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਕਈ ਵਾਜੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭਟਕਾਂਦੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਬੇਅੰਤ ਜੀਵ (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਹੇਠ) ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਹੋ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਨਾਚੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟੈ ਪੂਰਾ ॥੪॥੭॥
kaho naanak so bahur na naachai jis gur bhaytai pooraa. ||4||7||
Nanak says, one who follows his teachings of the true Guru, does not go through cycle of birth and death again. ||4||7||
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਹੱਥਾਂ ਤੇ) ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਨੱਚਦਾ ॥੪॥੭॥
