Raag Gond:
ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਰੇ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
garihi sobhaa jaa kai ray naahi.
O’ brother, the household which has no glory of worldly wealth;
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ (ਘਰ ਦੀ ਸੁਹੱਪਣ) ਮਾਇਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ,
ਆਵਤ ਪਹੀਆ ਖੂਧੇ ਜਾਹਿ ॥
aavat pahee-aa khooDhay jaahi.
the guests who come there, depart hungry.
ਉਸ ਘਰ ਆਏ ਪਾਂਧੀ ਭੁੱਖੇ ਚਲੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਵਾ ਕੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਹੀ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ॥
vaa kai antar nahee santokh.
There is no contentment in the mind of that householder,
ਉਸ ਘਰ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ ਧਰਵਾਸ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣਦਾ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਸੋਹਾਗਨਿ ਲਾਗੈ ਦੋਖੁ ॥੧॥
bin sohaagan laagai dokh. ||1||
because without the worldly wealth, the householder feels guilty of letting a guest go hungry. ||1||
ਕਿਉਕੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਦੁੱਖ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਧਨੁ ਸੋਹਾਗਨਿ ਮਹਾ ਪਵੀਤ ॥
Dhan sohaagan mahaa paveet.
blessed is this most immaculate bride, Maya (worldly riches and power),
ਸਦਾ ਖਸਮ-ਵਤੀ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਧੰਨ ਹੈ, (ਇਹ ਮਾੜੀ ਨਹੀਂ) ਬੜੀ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹੈ।
ਤਪੇ ਤਪੀਸਰ ਡੋਲੈ ਚੀਤ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tapay tapeesar dolai cheet. ||1|| rahaa-o.
without which even the minds of great sages start wavering. ||1||Pause||
ਜਿਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਵੱਡੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਤਪੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਭੀ ਡੋਲ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਜੇ ਨਿਰਬਾਹ ਲਈ ਮਾਇਆ ਨਹੀ ਤਾਂ ਤਪੀ ਭੀ ਘਾਬਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ) ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਸੋਹਾਗਨਿ ਕਿਰਪਨ ਕੀ ਪੂਤੀ ॥
sohaagan kirpan kee pootee.
But this bride, Maya (the worldly wealth), is like the daughter of a miser.
ਪਰ ਇਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਸ਼ੂਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੀ ਬਣ ਕੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, (ਭਾਵ, ਸ਼ੂਮ ਇਕੱਠੀ ਹੀ ਕਰੀ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਵਰਤਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ)।
ਸੇਵਕ ਤਜਿ ਜਗਤ ਸਿਉ ਸੂਤੀ ॥
sayvak taj jagat si-o sootee.
Except the devotees of God, it has taken control of the entire world.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਸਭ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਸਾਧੂ ਕੈ ਠਾਢੀ ਦਰਬਾਰਿ ॥
saaDhoo kai thaadhee darbaar.
Standing at the service of a saintly person,
ਭਗਤ-ਜਨ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਖਲੋਤੀ ,
ਸਰਨਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਿ ॥੨॥
saran tayree mo ka-o nistaar. ||2||
it says that I have come to your refuge, please protect me. ||2||
(ਪੁਕਾਰਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਆਈ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਬਚਾ ਲੈ ॥੨॥
ਸੋਹਾਗਨਿ ਹੈ ਅਤਿ ਸੁੰਦਰੀ ॥
sohaagan hai at sundree.
This Maya, the worldly wealth, looks very beautiful,
ਮਾਇਆ ਬੜੀ ਸੁਹਣੀ ਹੈ।
ਪਗ ਨੇਵਰ ਛਨਕ ਛਨਹਰੀ ॥
pag nayvar chhanak chhanharee.
it appears as if her ankle-bells are tinkling (to entice people).
ਇਸ ਦੇ ਪੈਰੀਂ, ਮਾਨੋ, ਝਾਂਜਰਾਂ ਛਣ-ਛਣ ਕਰ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਹਨ।
ਜਉ ਲਗੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਤਊ ਲਗੁ ਸੰਗੇ ॥
ja-o lag paraan ta-oo lag sangay.
However, as long as a person is alive, it remains attached to him,
(ਉਂਞ) ਜਦ ਤਕ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਜਿੰਦ ਹੈ ਤਦ ਤਕ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਨਾਲ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਨਾਹਿ ਤ ਚਲੀ ਬੇਗਿ ਉਠਿ ਨੰਗੇ ॥੩॥
naahi ta chalee bayg uth nangay. ||3||
but after his death, it departs immediately. ||3||
ਨਹੀਂ ਤਾਂ (ਭਾਵ, ਜਿੰਦ ਨਿਕਲਦਿਆਂ ਹੀ) ਇਹ ਭੀ ਨੰਗੀ ਪੈਰੀਂ ਉੱਠ ਭੱਜਦੀ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਉਸੇ ਵੇਲੇ ਸਾਥ ਛੱਡ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ) ॥੩॥
ਸੋਹਾਗਨਿ ਭਵਨ ਤ੍ਰੈ ਲੀਆ ॥
sohaagan bhavan tarai lee-aa.
This bride, Maya (the worldly riches), has won over people of the entire world.
ਇਸ ਮਾਇਆ ਨੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਸ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ l
ਦਸ ਅਠ ਪੁਰਾਣ ਤੀਰਥ ਰਸ ਕੀਆ ॥
das ath puraan tirath ras kee-aa.
It has enticed even those who have read eighteen Puranas (Hindu scriptures) and who love to go to pilgrimage places.
ਅਠਾਰਾਂ ਪੁਰਾਨ ਪੜ੍ਹਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਤੇ ਤੀਰਥਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਮੋਹ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ.
ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਮਹੇਸਰ ਬੇਧੇ ॥
barahmaa bisan mahaysar bayDhay.
It has even won over the hearts of angels like Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva,
ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ, ਵਿਸ਼ਨੂ ਤੇ ਸ਼ਿਵ (ਵਰਗੇ ਦੇਵਤੇ) ਇਸ ਨੇ ਵਿੰਨ੍ਹ ਰੱਖੇ ਹਨ,
ਬਡੇ ਭੂਪਤਿ ਰਾਜੇ ਹੈ ਛੇਧੇ ॥੪॥
baday bhoopat raajay hai chhayDhay. ||4||
and has destroyed many great kings and chiefs. ||4||
ਸਭ ਰਾਜੇ ਰਾਣੇ ਭੀ ਇਸ ਨੇ ਨਕੇਲੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ ॥੪॥
ਸੋਹਾਗਨਿ ਉਰਵਾਰਿ ਨ ਪਾਰਿ ॥
sohaagan urvaar na paar.
There is no limit to the power of this bride, Maya (the worldly riches) ,
ਇਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਵੱਡੇ ਪਸਾਰੇ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਸਕਦਾ;
ਪਾਂਚ ਨਾਰਦ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਬਿਧਵਾਰਿ ॥
paaNch naarad kai sang biDhvaar.
It remains closely aligned with five sensory organs (touch, taste, sound, smell, and speech),
ਪੰਜਾਂ ਹੀ ਗਿਆਨ-ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਰਲੀ-ਮਿਲੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਪਾਂਚ ਨਾਰਦ ਕੇ ਮਿਟਵੇ ਫੂਟੇ ॥
paaNch naarad kay mitvay footay.
Since I have taken control of these five sensory organs, now Maya has no effect on these organs;
ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਮੇਰੇ ਪੰਜੇ ਹੀ ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਭਾਂਡੇ ਭੱਜ ਗਏ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ, ਗਿਆਨ-ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਇਸ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦਾ),
ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਛੂਟੇ ॥੫॥੫॥੮॥
kaho kabeer gur kirpaa chhootay. ||5||5||8||
Kabir says, by the Guru’s grace, I have been saved from the entrapment of Maya, the worldly riches and power. ||5||5||8||
ਕਬੀਰ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- ਮੈਂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਇਸ (ਦੀ ਮਾਰ) ਤੋਂ ਬਚ ਗਿਆ ਹਾਂ ॥੫॥੫॥੮॥

ਜੈਸੇ ਮੰਦਰ ਮਹਿ ਬਲਹਰ ਨਾ ਠਾਹਰੈ ॥
jaisay mandar meh balhar naa thaahrai.
Just as a house cannot stand without the beams,
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਸ਼ਤੀਰ ਹੈ (ਸ਼ਤੀਰ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਘਰ ਦਾ ਛੱਤ) ਨਹੀਂ ਠਹਿਰ ਸਕਦਾ,
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੈਸੇ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਰੈ ॥
naam binaa kaisay paar utrai.
similarly one cannot swim across the worldly ocean of vices without Naam.
ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਦੇ ਘੁੰਮਣ-ਘੇਰਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੰਘ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਕੁੰਭ ਬਿਨਾ ਜਲੁ ਨਾ ਟੀਕਾਵੈ ॥
kumbh binaa jal naa teekaavai.
Just as water cannot be contained without a pitcher,
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਘੜੇ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਪਾਣੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਟਿਕ ਸਕਦਾ,
ਸਾਧੂ ਬਿਨੁ ਐਸੇ ਅਬਗਤੁ ਜਾਵੈ ॥੧॥
saaDhoo bin aisay abgat jaavai. ||1||
similarly without the Guru’s teachings, one departs from the world in misery without attaining freedom from the vices. ||1||
ਤਿਵੇਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਦੀ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੀ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਤੋਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਜਾਰਉ ਤਿਸੈ ਜੁ ਰਾਮੁ ਨ ਚੇਤੈ ॥
jaara-o tisai jo raam na chaytai.
I wish that I should burn down that mind, which does not remember God,
ਮੈਂ ਉਸ (ਮਨ) ਨੂੰ ਸਾੜ ਦਿਆਂ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ,
ਤਨ ਮਨ ਰਮਤ ਰਹੈ ਮਹਿ ਖੇਤੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tan man ramat rahai meh khaytai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
and remains totally engrossed in enjoying bodily pleasures. ||1||Pause||
ਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਸਰੀਰਕ ਭੋਗਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਖਚਿਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਜੈਸੇ ਹਲਹਰ ਬਿਨਾ ਜਿਮੀ ਨਹੀ ਬੋਈਐ ॥
jaisay halhar binaa jimee nahee bo-ee-ai.
Just as land cannot be sowed without a farmer,
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਿਸਾਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਜ਼ਮੀਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਬੀਜੀ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ,
ਸੂਤ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੈਸੇ ਮਣੀ ਪਰੋਈਐ ॥
soot binaa kaisay manee paroee-ai.
the beads cannot be strung without a thread,
ਸੂਤਰ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਣਕੇ ਪਰੋਏ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੇ ,
ਘੁੰਡੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਿਆ ਗੰਠਿ ਚੜ੍ਹਾਈਐ ॥
ghundee bin ki-aa ganth charhHaa-ee-ai.
and knot cannot be tied without making a loop,
ਘੁੰਡੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਗੰਢ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਈ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ|
ਸਾਧੂ ਬਿਨੁ ਤੈਸੇ ਅਬਗਤੁ ਜਾਈਐ ॥੨॥
saaDhoo bin taisay abgat jaa-ee-ai. ||2||
similarly without the Guru’s teachings, one departs from the world in misery without attaining freedom from the vices. ||2||
ਤਿਵੇਂ ਹੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਦੀ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਹੀ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਜੈਸੇ ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਬਾਲੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
jaisay maat pitaa bin baal na ho-ee.
Just as no child is born without the mother and the father,
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਮਾਂ ਪਿਉ (ਦੇ ਮੇਲ) ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਬਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਜੰਮਦਾ,
ਬਿੰਬ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੈਸੇ ਕਪਰੇ ਧੋਈ ॥
bimb binaa kaisay kapray Dho-ee.
and clothes cannot be washed without water,
ਪਾਣੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੱਪੜੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਧੁਪਦੇ,
ਘੋਰ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੈਸੇ ਅਸਵਾਰ ॥
ghor binaa kaisay asvaar.
and no one can be a horse rider without the horse,
ਘੋੜੇ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅਸਵਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਅਖਵਾ ਸਕਦਾ,
ਸਾਧੂ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਦਰਵਾਰ ॥੩॥
saaDhoo bin naahee darvaar. ||3||
similarly, one cannot realize God without the Guru’s teachings. ||3||
ਤਿਵੇਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ ॥੩॥
ਜੈਸੇ ਬਾਜੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਹੀ ਲੀਜੈ ਫੇਰੀ ॥
jaisay baajay bin nahee leejai fayree.
Just as there is no real dancing without music,
ਸਾਜ਼ਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਨਾਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ,
ਖਸਮਿ ਦੁਹਾਗਨਿ ਤਜਿ ਅਉਹੇਰੀ ॥
khasam duhaagan taj a-uhayree.
similarly, the unvirtuous bride deserted by her husband remains dishonored.
ਤਿਵੇਂ ਦੁਹਾਗਣ (ਭੈੜੇ ਸੁਭਾਉ ਵਾਲੀ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ) ਨੂੰ ਖਸਮ ਨੇ ਤਿਆਗ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ ਦੁਰਕਾਰ ਹੀ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਹੈ ਕਬੀਰੁ ਏਕੈ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਨਾ ॥
kahai kabeer aikai kar karnaa.
Kabir says: O’ man, just do one deed which is worth doing,
ਕਬੀਰ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ-ਇੱਕੋ ਹੀ ਕਰਨ-ਜੋਗ ਕੰਮ ਕਰ,
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਇ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨਹੀ ਮਰਨਾ ॥੪॥੬॥੯॥
gurmukh ho-ay bahur nahee marnaa. ||4||6||9||
follow the Guru’s teachings and lovingly remember God, then you will not have to die again. ||4||6||9||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੋ (ਤੇ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ) ਫਿਰ ਫਿਰ ਜੰਮਣਾ-ਮਰਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਏਗਾ ॥੪॥੬॥੯॥

ਕੂਟਨੁ ਸੋਇ ਜੁ ਮਨ ਕਉ ਕੂਟੈ ॥
kootan so-ay jo man ka-o kootai.
A cheat is also the one who chastens his own mind,
ਕੂਟਨ ਉਹ ਭੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਮਨ ਕੂਟੈ ਤਉ ਜਮ ਤੇ ਛੂਟੈ ॥
man kootai ta-o jam tay chhootai.
and a person who chastens his mind, escapes from the demon of death.
ਤੇ ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਜਮਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕੁਟਿ ਕੁਟਿ ਮਨੁ ਕਸਵਟੀ ਲਾਵੈ ॥
kut kut man kasvatee laavai.
The cheat who after chastening his mind, again and again, keeps testing it,
ਜੋ ਕੂਟਨ’ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ (ਫਿਰ ਉਸ ਦੀ) ਜਾਂਚ-ਪੜਤਾਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ;
ਸੋ ਕੂਟਨੁ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਬਹੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੧॥
so kootan mukat baho paavai. ||1||
such a person who chastens his mind achieves freedom from the vices. ||1||
ਉਹ (ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਕੁੱਟਣ ਵਾਲਾ) ‘ਕੂਟਨ’ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਕੂਟਨੁ ਕਿਸੈ ਕਹਹੁ ਸੰਸਾਰ ॥
kootan kisai kahhu sansaar.
O’ people of the world, whom do you call a cheat,
ਹੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਲੋਕੋ! ਤੁਸੀ ‘ਕੂਟਨ’ ਕਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਦੇ ਹੋ?
ਸਗਲ ਬੋਲਨ ਕੇ ਮਾਹਿ ਬੀਚਾਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sagal bolan kay maahi beechaar. ||1|| rahaa-o.
there can be many different meanings of the spoken words. ||1||Pause||
ਸਭ ਲਫ਼ਜ਼ਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਖੋ-ਵਖ ਭਾਵ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਨਾਚਨੁ ਸੋਇ ਜੁ ਮਨ ਸਿਉ ਨਾਚੈ ॥
naachan so-ay jo man si-o naachai.
He alone is a true dancer who dances with his mind,
‘ਨਾਚਨ’ ਉਹ ਹੈ ਜੋ (ਸਰੀਰ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ) ਮਨ ਨਾਲ ਨੱਚਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਝੂਠਿ ਨ ਪਤੀਐ ਪਰਚੈ ਸਾਚੈ ॥
jhooth na patee-ai parchai saachai.
is not satisfied with falsehood and is pleased only by truth,
ਝੂਠ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਰਚਦਾ, ਸੱਚ ਨਾਲ ਪਤੀਜਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਇਸੁ ਮਨ ਆਗੇ ਪੂਰੈ ਤਾਲ ॥
is man aagay poorai taal.
and dances to the beat of his chastened mind and remains spiritually elated;
ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਉਮਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਲਿਆਉਣ ਦੇ ਜਤਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ;
ਇਸੁ ਨਾਚਨ ਕੇ ਮਨ ਰਖਵਾਲ ॥੨॥
is naachan kay man rakhvaal. ||2||
God himself is the protector of such a dancer’s mind. ||2||
ਅਜਿਹੇ ‘ਨਾਚਨ’ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਦਾ ਰਾਖਾ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ) ॥੨॥
ਬਜਾਰੀ ਸੋ ਜੁ ਬਜਾਰਹਿ ਸੋਧੈ ॥
bajaaree so jo bajaarahi soDhai.
He alone is a true street clown, who controls and purifies his sensory organs,
ਅਸਲ ਬਜਾਰੀ (ਮਸਕਰਾ) ਉਹ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਰੀਰ-ਰੂਪ ਬਜ਼ਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਪੜਤਾਲਦਾ (ਸਾਫ ਕਰਦਾ) ਹੈ,
ਪਾਂਚ ਪਲੀਤਹ ਕਉ ਪਰਬੋਧੈ ॥
paaNch paleeteh ka-o parboDhai.
and reforms the five evils (lust, anger, greed, attachment and ego),
ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੰਜੇ ਮੰਦੇ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ-ਵੇਗਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿੱਖ-ਮਤ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਉ ਨਾਇਕ ਕੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਪਛਾਨੈ ॥
na-o naa-ik kee bhagat pachhaanai.
and realizes the true devotional worship God, the Master of the entire world;
ਨੌ ਖੰਡ ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਬੰਦਗੀ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਜਾਚ ਸਿੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ;
ਸੋ ਬਾਜਾਰੀ ਹਮ ਗੁਰ ਮਾਨੇ ॥੩॥
so baajaaree ham gur maanay. ||3||
I acknowledge such a clown as a really great person. ||3||
ਅਸੀਂ ਅਜਿਹੇ ‘ਬਜਾਰੀ’ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਡਾ (ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ) ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮੰਨਦੇ ਹਾਂ ॥੩॥
ਤਸਕਰੁ ਸੋਇ ਜਿ ਤਾਤਿ ਨ ਕਰੈ ॥
taskar so-ay je taat na karai.
He alone is a true thief, who does not indulge in jealousy,
ਅਸਲ ਤਸਕਰ ਉਹ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਈਰਖਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ,
ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀ ਕੈ ਜਤਨਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਉਚਰੈ ॥
indree kai jatan naam uchrai.
who controls his sensory organs and meditates on God’s Name.
ਜੋ ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਹਮ ਐਸੇ ਲਖਨ ॥
kaho kabeer ham aisay lakhan.
Kabir says, one by whose grace I have achieved these virtues,
ਕਬੀਰ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਂ ਇਹ ਲੱਛਣ (ਗੁਣ) ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤੇ ਹਨ,
ਧੰਨੁ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਅਤਿ ਰੂਪ ਬਿਚਖਨ ॥੪॥੭॥੧੦॥
Dhan gurdayv at roop bichkhan. ||4||7||10||
is my divine Guru, who is the most beautiful, wise and praiseworthy. ||4||7||10||
ਮੇਰਾ ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ, ਸੁਹਣਾ ਸਿਆਣਾ ਤੇ ਧੰਨਤਾ-ਜੋਗ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੭॥੧੦॥
