ਨਿਰਮਲ ਹੋਇ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਰਾ ਚੀਤ ॥
nirmal ho-ay tumHaaraa cheet.
by doing so, your mind would become immaculate.
(ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਤੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਇਗਾ।
ਮਨ ਤਨ ਕੀ ਸਭ ਮਿਟੈ ਬਲਾਇ ॥
man tan kee sabh mitai balaa-ay.
All the woes of your mind and body would be wiped out
(ਹੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ! ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆਂ) ਮਨ ਦੀ ਸਰੀਰ ਦੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਬਿਪਤਾ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਦੂਖੁ ਅੰਧੇਰਾ ਸਗਲਾ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥
dookh anDhayraa saglaa jaa-ay. ||1||
and all pain and darkness of worldly entanglements would go away. ||1||
ਹਰੇਕ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦਾ) ਸਾਰਾ ਹਨੇਰਾ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਤ ਤਰੀਐ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥
har gun gaavat taree-ai sansaar.
O’ my friend, by singing the praises of God, we swim across the worldly ocean of vices,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਿਆਂ ਗਾਂਦਿਆਂ ਸੰਸਾਰ (-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਵਡ ਭਾਗੀ ਪਾਈਐ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
vad bhaagee paa-ee-ai purakh apaar. ||1|| rahaa-o.
and with good fortune, we realize the all-pervading infinite God. ||1||Pause||
(ਭਾਗ ਜਾਗ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ) ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਜੋ ਜਨੁ ਕਰੈ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਗੋਪਾਲ ॥
jo jan karai keertan gopaal.
O’ my friend, the devotee who keeps singing the praises of God of the universe,
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੇ ਪਾਲਣਹਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਤਿਸ ਕਉ ਪੋਹਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ॥
tis ka-o pohi na sakai jamkaal.
the fear of death cannot affect him.
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਪੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਆਇਆ ਸੋ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥
jag meh aa-i-aa so parvaan.
Successful is the advent of that person in the world,
ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਵਿਚ ਆਉਣਾ ਸਫਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅਪਨਾ ਖਸਮੁ ਪਛਾਣੁ ॥੨॥
gurmukh apnaa khasam pachhaan. ||2||
who by Guru’s grace realizes the Master-God. ||2||
ਜੋ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਨੂੰ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ॥੨॥
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਸੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
har gun gaavai sant parsaad.
O’ my friend, by Guru’s grace, the person who sings God’s praises,
(ਹੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਮਿਟਹਿ ਉਨਮਾਦ ॥
kaam kroDh miteh unmaad.
his lust, anger, and all maddening passions are eradicated.
(ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ (ਆਦਿਕ) ਝੱਲ-ਪੁਣੇ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸਦਾ ਹਜੂਰਿ ਜਾਣੁ ਭਗਵੰਤ ॥
sadaa hajoor jaan bhagvant.
O’ my friend, deem that God is always present with you.
(ਹੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ!) ਭਗਵਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਸਮਝਿਆ ਕਰ।
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਪੂਰਨ ਮੰਤ ॥੩॥
pooray gur kaa pooran mant. ||3||
This is the perfect teaching of the perfect Guru. ||3||
ਅਤੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸੱਚਾ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਲੈ ਕੇ (ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ) ॥੩॥
ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਖਾਟਿ ਕੀਏ ਭੰਡਾਰ ॥
har Dhan khaat kee-ay bhandaar.
The person who has earned the wealth of God’s Name and has filled his treasures with it,
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਧਨ ਖੱਟ ਕੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਭਰ ਲਏ,
ਮਿਲਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਭਿ ਕਾਜ ਸਵਾਰ ॥
mil satgur sabh kaaj savaar.
by meeting with the true Guru, he has accomplished all his tasks.
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਕੰਮ ਸੰਵਾਰ ਲਏ।
ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਰੰਗ ਸੰਗਿ ਜਾਗਾ ॥
har kay naam rang sang jaagaa.
Through the love of God’s Name, his mind remains alert towards the vices such as anger, greed etc).
ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਜਾਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਆਦਿਕ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਚੇਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ),
ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਗਾ ॥੪॥੧੪॥੧੬॥
har charnee naanak man laagaa. ||4||14||16||
O’ Nanak, such a person’s mind remains attuned to God’s Name. ||4||14||16||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੧੪॥੧੬॥

Raag Gond, Fifth Guru:
ਭਵ ਸਾਗਰ ਬੋਹਿਥ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣ ॥
bhav saagar bohith har charan.
O’ my friend, God’s Name is like a ship to swim across this dreadful worldly ocean of vices;
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਰਨ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਜਹਾਜ਼ ਹਨ।
ਸਿਮਰਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਫਿਰਿ ਮਰਣ ॥
simrat naam naahee fir maran.
by lovingly remembering God’s Name, one doesn’t suffer spiritual death again.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਿਆਂ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ (ਆਤਮਕ) ਮੌਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ।
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਰਮਤ ਨਾਹੀ ਜਮ ਪੰਥ ॥
har gun ramat naahee jam panth.
By singing praises of God, one doesn’t have to walk the path of evil.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਿਆਂ ਜਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਰਸਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਫੜਨਾ ਪੈਂਦਾ।
ਮਹਾ ਬੀਚਾਰ ਪੰਚ ਦੂਤਹ ਮੰਥ ॥੧॥
mahaa beechaar panch dootah manth. ||1||
Supreme is the reflection on the merits of God; it annihilates all the five vices of lust, anger, greed, attachment, and ego. ||1||
(ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੀ) ਵਿਚਾਰ ਜੋ ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਵਿਚਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਤਮ ਹੈ (ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ) ਪੰਜ ਵੈਰੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਤਉ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਪੂਰਨ ਨਾਥ ॥
ta-o sarnaa-ee pooran naath.
O’ the perfect Master-God, I have taken refuge in You.
ਹੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ।
ਜੰਤ ਅਪਨੇ ਕਉ ਦੀਜਹਿ ਹਾਥ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jant apnay ka-o deejeh haath. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Please extend Your support to Your humble being. ||1||Pause||
(ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਆਪਣੇ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਰੀਬ ਸੇਵਕ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੱਥ ਫੜਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਬੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਣ ॥
simrit saastar bayd puraan.
O’ my friend, all the scriptures, such as Simritis, Shastras, Vedas and Puranas,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤੀਆਂ, ਸ਼ਾਸਤਰ, ਵੇਦ, ਪੁਰਾਣ (ਆਦਿਕ ਸਾਰੇ ਧਰਮ-ਪੁਸਤਕ)
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਵਖਿਆਣ ॥
paarbarahm kaa karahi vakhi-aan.
describe the virtues of the Supreme God,
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਬਿਆਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਜੋਗੀ ਜਤੀ ਬੈਸਨੋ ਰਾਮਦਾਸ ॥
jogee jatee baisno raamdaas.
and so do yogis, celibates, Vaishnavs, and followers of Ramdas,
ਜੋਗੀ ਜਤੀ, ਵੈਸ਼ਨਵ ਸਾਧੂ, (ਨਿਰਤ-ਕਾਰੀ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ) ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਭਗਤ ਭੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਮਿਤਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਅਬਿਨਾਸ ॥੨॥
mit naahee barahm abinaas. ||2||
but no one has been able to find the limits of the imperishable God. ||2||
ਪਰ ਉਸ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੨॥
ਕਰਣ ਪਲਾਹ ਕਰਹਿ ਸਿਵ ਦੇਵ ॥
karan palaah karahi siv dayv.
O’ my friend, Shiva and many other gods have been wailing to meet God and find His limits,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸ਼ਿਵ ਜੀ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਦੇਵਤੇ (ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਲੱਭਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਤਰਲੇ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਤਿਲੁ ਨਹੀ ਬੂਝਹਿ ਅਲਖ ਅਭੇਵ ॥
til nahee boojheh alakh abhayv.
but they do not know even an iota of the indescribable and mysterious God.
ਪਰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਰੂਪ ਨੂੰ ਰਤਾ ਭਰ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝ ਸਕਦੇ। ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਰੂਪ ਸਹੀ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਨਾਲ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ, ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਭੇਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਭਗਤਿ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪੇ ਦੇਇ ॥
paraym bhagat jis aapay day-ay.
Those whom He Himself blesses with His loving devotion,
(ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਮਾ ਭਗਤੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਕੇਈ ਕੇਇ ॥੩॥
jag meh virlay kay-ee kay-ay. ||3||
are very rare in the world. ||3||
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਤੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਘੱਟ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੀ ਹਨ ॥੩॥
ਮੋਹਿ ਨਿਰਗੁਣ ਗੁਣੁ ਕਿਛਹੂ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
mohi nirgun gun kichhahoo naahi.
O’ my God, I am unvirtuous, with absolutely no virtue at all;
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਹਾਂ ਨਾ-ਚੀਜ਼। ਭਲਾ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਅੰਤ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਾਂ?) ਮੈਂ ਗੁਣ-ਹੀਣ ਵਿਚ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਗੁਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
ਸਰਬ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਤੇਰੀ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟੀ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
sarab niDhaan tayree daristee maahi.
all treasures lie in Your gracious glance.
(ਹਾਂ,) ਤੇਰੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਰੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਹਨ (ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ)।
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਦੀਨੁ ਜਾਚੈ ਤੇਰੀ ਸੇਵ ॥
naanak deen jaachai tayree sayv.
Your Humble devotee Nanak begs for Your devotional worship,
(ਤੇਰਾ ਦਾਸ) ਗਰੀਬ ਨਾਨਕ (ਤੈਥੋਂ) ਤੇਰੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦੀਜੈ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ॥੪॥੧੫॥੧੭॥

ਹੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡੇ ਦੇਵ! ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਇਹ ਖ਼ੈਰ ਪਾ ॥੪॥੧੫॥੧੭॥

Raag Gond, Fifth Guru:
ਸੰਤ ਕਾ ਲੀਆ ਧਰਤਿ ਬਿਦਾਰਉ ॥
sant kaa lee-aa Dharat bidaara-o.
O’ my friend, God proclaims: I smash to the ground the one who is cursed by the saint,
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਤਾਹੀਏਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ-) ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਤ ਫਿਟਕਾਰ ਪਾਏ, ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਜੜ੍ਹਾਂ ਪੁੱਟ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਸੰਤ ਕਾ ਨਿੰਦਕੁ ਅਕਾਸ ਤੇ ਟਾਰਉ ॥
sant kaa nindak akaas tay taara-o.
I pull down the slanderer of the saint from the high social status,
ਸੰਤ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਨੂੰ ਮੈਂ ਉੱਚੇ ਮਰਾਤਬੇ ਤੋਂ ਹੇਠਾਂ ਡੇਗ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਸੰਤ ਕਉ ਰਾਖਉ ਅਪਨੇ ਜੀਅ ਨਾਲਿ ॥
sant ka-o raakha-o apnay jee-a naal.
I keep the saint close to my heart,
ਸੰਤ ਨੂੰ ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ ਆਪਣੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਸੰਤ ਉਧਾਰਉ ਤਤਖਿਣ ਤਾਲਿ ॥੧॥
sant uDhaara-o tat-khin taal. ||1||
and in an instant, I protect the saint from any kind of trouble. ||1||
(ਕਿਸੇ ਭੀ ਬਿਪਤਾ ਤੋਂ) ਸੰਤ ਨੂੰ ਮੈਂ ਤੁਰਤ ਉਸੇ ਵੇਲੇ ਬਚਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੧॥
ਸੋਈ ਸੰਤੁ ਜਿ ਭਾਵੈ ਰਾਮ ॥
so-ee sant je bhaavai raam.
He alone is a saint who is pleasing to God,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਹੈ ਸੰਤ।
ਸੰਤ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਕੈ ਏਕੈ ਕਾਮ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sant gobind kai aikai kaam. ||1|| rahaa-o.
because both the saint and God do the same one task (of bringing humans closer to God). ||1||Pause||
ਸੰਤ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਅਤੇ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਇਕੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਕੰਮ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਸੰਤ ਕੈ ਊਪਰਿ ਦੇਇ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਹਾਥ ॥
sant kai oopar day-ay parabh haath.
God extends His support to the saint;
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣਾ ਹੱਥ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਸੰਤ ਉੱਤੇ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸੰਤ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਬਸੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤਿ ॥
sant kai sang basai din raat.
God is always with the saint.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੰਤ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ (ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ) ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਾਸਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਸੰਤਹ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਿ ॥
saas saas santeh partipaal.
God protects His saints with their every breath.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੀ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ) ਹਰੇਕ ਸਾਹ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਰਾਖੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸੰਤ ਕਾ ਦੋਖੀ ਰਾਜ ਤੇ ਟਾਲਿ ॥੨॥
sant kaa dokhee raaj tay taal. ||2||
God takes power away from the saint’s adversary. ||2||
ਸੰਤ ਦਾ ਬੁਰਾ ਮੰਗਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਰਾਜ ਤੋਂ (ਭੀ) ਹੇਠਾਂ ਡੇਗ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਸੰਤ ਕੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥
sant kee nindaa karahu na ko-ay.
O’ friend, no one should be slandering the saint.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕਿਸੇ ਸੰਤ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਨਾਹ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰੇ।
ਜੋ ਨਿੰਦੈ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਪਤਨੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
jo nindai tis kaa patan ho-ay.
One who slanders, suffers a spiritual downfall.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਭੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਤੋਂ ਡਿੱਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਸ ਕਉ ਰਾਖੈ ਸਿਰਜਨਹਾਰੁ ॥
jis ka-o raakhai sirjanhaar.
One who is protected by the Creator-God,
ਕਰਤਾਰ ਆਪ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਝਖ ਮਾਰਉ ਸਗਲ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥੩॥
jhakh maara-o sagal sansaar. ||3||
cannot be harmed, no matter how much the entire world may try. ||3||
ਸਾਰਾ ਸੰਸਾਰ (ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨੁਕਸਾਨ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ) ਬੇ-ਸ਼ੱਕ ਪਿਆ ਝਖਾਂ ਮਾਰੇ (ਉਸ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਗਾੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ) ॥੩॥
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅਪਨੇ ਕਾ ਭਇਆ ਬਿਸਾਸੁ ॥
parabh apnay kaa bha-i-aa bisaas.
O’ my friend, a person who cherishes such a faith in God,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਤੇ ਭਰੋਸਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਸਭੁ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਰਾਸਿ ॥
jee-o pind sabh tis kee raas.
he starts to believe that this body and soul are the gift from God.
(ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਨਿਸ਼ਚਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਇਹ ਜਿੰਦ ਤੇ ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੀ ਸਰਮਾਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਉਪਜੀ ਪਰਤੀਤਿ ॥
naanak ka-o upjee parteet.
Within Nanak has arisen this conviction,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ ਇਹ ਯਕੀਨ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ,
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਹਾਰ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਸਦ ਜੀਤਿ ॥੪॥੧੬॥੧੮॥
manmukh haar gurmukh sad jeet. ||4||16||18||
that the self-willed person loses the game of life and the Guru’s follower always wins. ||4||16||18||
ਕਿ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਜੀਵਨ-ਬਾਜ਼ੀ ਵਿਚ) ਹਾਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਜਿੱਤ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੧੬॥੧੮॥

Raag Gond, Fifth Guru:
ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਨੀਰਿ ਨਰਾਇਣ ॥
naam niranjan neer naraa-in.
The Name of the Immaculate God is like the ambrosial Water.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਨਾਮ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ-ਮਈ ਜਲ ਹੈ।
ਰਸਨਾ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਪਾਪ ਬਿਲਾਇਣ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
rasnaa simrat paap bilaa-in. ||1|| rahaa-o.
On reverently reciting God with tongue, all our sins are washed off. ||1||Pause||
(ਇਹ ਨਾਮ) ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ ਜਪਦਿਆਂ (ਸਾਰੇ) ਪਾਪ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
