ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਪੀਵਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਥਿਰੁ ਥੀਵਤੇ ਬਿਖੈ ਬਨੁ ਫੀਕਾ ਜਾਨਿਆ ॥
amrit har peevtay sadaa thir theevtay bikhai ban feekaa jaani-aa.
They partake the nectar of Naam and become spiritually alive. They consider the taste of poisonous pleasures of the world as bland.
ਭਗਤ-ਜਨ ਨਾਮ-ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਸਦਾ ਛਕਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਸਦੀਵੀ ਸਥਿਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਵਿਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਫਿਕਲਾ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਭਏ ਕਿਰਪਾਲ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਨਿਧਿ ਮਾਨਿਆ ॥

When my God became merciful, I came to look upon the holy congregation as the divine treasure.
ਜਦ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦਾ ਪਾਲਣਹਾਰ, ਮੇਰਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਮਿਹਰਬਾਨ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ, ਮੈਂ ਤਸਲੀਮ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਕਿ ਸਤਿਸੰਗਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੀ ਨੌ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਹਨ। ਸਰਬਸੋ ਸੂਖ
ਸਰਬਸੋ ਸੂਖ ਆਨੰਦ ਘਨ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਰਤਨੁ ਮਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸੀਵਤੇ ॥
sarbaso sookh aanand ghan pi-aaray har ratan man antar seevtay.
The devotees always keep God’s precious Naam in their mind, and enjoy all the comforts and bliss of God’s love
ਭਗਤ ਜਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰੋਈ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ, ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਸੁਖ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਇਕੁ ਤਿਲੁ ਨਹੀ ਵਿਸਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਆਧਾਰਾ ਜਪਿ ਜਪਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੀਵਤੇ ॥੩॥
ik til nahee visrai paraan aaDhaaraa jap jap naanak jeevtay. ||3||
O’ Nanak, they do not forsake God, their life’s support, even for a moment. They live their life by constantly remembering Him with loving devotion.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ, ਇਕ ਮੁਹਤ ਭਰ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਉਹ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ ਆਸਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਭੁਲਾਉਂਦੇ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਲਗਾਤਾਰ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਕੇ ਜੀਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ l

ਜੋ ਤਉ ਕੀਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਤਿਨਾ ਕੂੰ ਮਿਲਿਓਹਿ ॥
jo ta-o keenay aapnay tinaa kooN mili-ohi.
O God, You grant union to those whom You make Your own.
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ (ਵਡ-ਭਾਗੀਆਂ) ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ (ਸੇਵਕ) ਬਣਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਆਪਿ ਮੋਹਿਓਹੁ ਜਸੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਆਪਿ ਸੁਣਿਓਹਿ ॥੧॥
aapay hee aap mohi-ohu jas naanak aap suni-ohi. ||1||
O’ Nanak, hearing Your Own Praises, You Yourself are entranced.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਤੂੰ (ਆਪਣਾ) ਜਸ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੇ (ਸੁਣ ਕੇ) ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮਸਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈਂ

ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਠਗਉਰੀ ਪਾਇ ਰੀਝਾਇ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਮਨੁ ਮੋਹਿਆ ਜੀਉ ॥
paraym thag-uree paa-ay reejhaa-ay gobind man mohi-aa jee-o.
The devotees please God by their unlimited love and devotion.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨੇ) ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦੀ ਠਗ-ਬੂਟੀ ਖਵਾ ਕੇ ਤੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਮੋਹ ਲਿਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸੰਤਨ ਕੈ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਅਗਾਧਿ ਕੰਠੇ ਲਗਿ ਸੋਹਿਆ ਜੀਉ ॥
santan kai parsaad agaaDh kanthay lag sohi-aa jee-o.
By the grace of the Saints, a rare fortunate one embellishes his life in the embrace of the unfathomable God.
ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ (ਕੋਈ ਵਡ-ਭਾਗੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਅਥਾਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗਲ ਲੱਗ ਕੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਕੰਠਿ ਲਗਿ ਸੋਹਿਆ ਦੋਖ ਸਭਿ ਜੋਹਿਆ ਭਗਤਿ ਲਖ੍ਯ੍ਯਣ ਕਰਿ ਵਸਿ ਭਏ ॥
har kanth lag sohi-aa dokh sabh johi-aa bhagat lakh-yan kar vas bha-ay.
He who embellishes his life in the embrace of God. All his vices are dispelled and because of his unconditional devotion and love, God is always with him.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਗਲ ਲੱਗ ਕੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਭਗਤੀ ਵਾਲੇ ਲੱਛਣ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਣ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਣ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਮਨਿ ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖ ਵੁਠੇ ਗੋਵਿਦ ਤੁਠੇ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣਾ ਸਭਿ ਮਿਟਿ ਗਏ ॥
man sarab sukh vuthay govid tuthay janam marnaa sabh mit ga-ay.
When God is pleased, the devotee is always in bliss and his cycle of birth and death is eliminated.
ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਦੇ ਉਸ ਉੱਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੋਣ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਆ ਵੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ (ਦੇ ਗੇੜ) ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸਖੀ ਮੰਗਲੋ ਗਾਇਆ ਇਛ ਪੁਜਾਇਆ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਨ ਮਾਇਆ ਹੋਹਿਆ ॥
sakhee manglo gaa-i-aa ichh pujaa-i-aa bahurh na maa-i-aa hohi-aa.
In the company of devotees as he sings the praises of God, all his desires are fulfilled and he is not shaken by Maya (worldly illusions).
ਸਤਸੰਗੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਜਿਉਂ ਜਿਉਂ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਾਮਨਾਂ ਪੂਰੀਆਂ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਫੁਰਨੇ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ), ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੁੜ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਧੱਕੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਦੇ।
ਕਰੁ ਗਹਿ ਲੀਨੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਨਹੀ ਪੋਹਿਆ ॥੪॥
kar geh leenay naanak parabh pi-aaray sansaar saagar nahee pohi-aa. ||4||
O’ Nanak, whom the beloved God has accepted, they are not affected by the this worldly-ocean of vices.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਹੱਥ ਫੜ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਆਪਣਾ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਨਹੀ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ

God’s Name is invaluable and no one knows its worth.
ਮਾਲਕ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਅਣਮੁੱਲਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਲ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ।
ਜਿਨਾ ਭਾਗ ਮਥਾਹਿ ਸੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਮਾਣਦੋ ॥੧॥
jinaa bhaag mathaahi say naanak har rang maando. ||1||
O’ Nanak, only they who are so predestined, enjoy the bliss of His union.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਤੇ ਭਾਗ (ਜਾਗਣ), ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ l

ਕਹਤੇ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਸੁਣਤੇ ਸਭਿ ਧੰਨੁ ਲਿਖਤੀ ਕੁਲੁ ਤਾਰਿਆ ਜੀਉ ॥
kahtay pavitar suntay sabh Dhan likh-teeN kul taari-aa jee-o.
They who utter Naam become sanctified. Blessed are those who listen to His divine words. Those who write His praises, their entire family is saved.
ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਉਚਾਰਣ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਸੁਅੱਛ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ l ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਸਰੋਤੇ ਚੰਗੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਲਿਖਾਰੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਖ਼ਾਨਦਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗੁ ਨਾਮ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਤਿਨੀ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਿਆ ਜੀਉ ॥
jin ka-o saaDhoo sang naam har rang tinee barahm beechaari-aa jee-o.
They who are blessed with the company of Saints are imbued with God’s love and they lovingly meditate on God’s Name.
ਜੋ ਸਤਿਸੰਗਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਜੁੜਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੁ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਾਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਿਆ ਜਨਮੁ ਸਵਾਰਿਆ ਪੂਰਨ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਕਰੀ ॥
barahm beechaari-aa janam savaari-aa pooran kirpaa parabh karee.
They upon whom God has shown mercy, have reflected on the all-pervading God and have embellished their lives.
ਜਿਸ ਉੱਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਪੂਰਨ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕੀਤੀ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਇਆ ਤੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਬਣਾ ਲਿਆ।
ਕਰੁ ਗਹਿ ਲੀਨੇ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੋ ਦੀਨੇ ਜੋਨਿ ਨਾ ਧਾਵੈ ਨਹ ਮਰੀ ॥
kar geh leenay har jaso deenay jon naa Dhaavai nah maree.
Taking them under His protection, God has blessed them with his praises. They no longer have to wander through the cycle of birth and death.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਜਿਸ (ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਦਾ ਹੱਥ ਫੜ ਲਿਆ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ (ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ) ਦਿੱਤੀ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਫਿਰ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੌੜਿਆ ਫਿਰਦਾ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੀ
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਦਇਆਲ ਕਿਰਪਾਲ ਭੇਟਤ ਹਰੇ ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਲੋਭੁ ਮਾਰਿਆ ॥
satgur da-i-aal kirpaal bhaytat haray kaam kroDh lobh maari-aa.
By meeting the merciful true Guru, they have destroyed their lust, anger and greed and their spiritual life has blossomed forth.
ਦਇਆ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਕੇ (ਤੇ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ) ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਲੋਭ (ਆਦਿਕ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ) ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਪ੍ਰਫੁਲਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਕਥਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਅਕਥੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸਦਕੈ ਜਾਇ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਵਾਰਿਆ ॥੫॥੧॥੩॥
kathan na jaa-ay akath su-aamee sadkai jaa-ay naanak vaari-aa. ||5||1||3||
The virtues of the indescribable God cannot be described, and Nanak dedicate his life to Him.
ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਅਕੱਥ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ) ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ। ਨਾਨਕ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ

ੴ ਸਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik-oNkaar sat naam gur parsaad.
One eternal God. Realized by the Guru’s Grace:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਉਤਮੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਨਿ ਸਿਰਿਆ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ਜੀਉ ॥
har har utam naam hai jin siri-aa sabh ko-ay jee-o.
Supreme is the Name of God who created all.
ਜਿਸ ਹਰੀ ਨੇ (ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਹੈ
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਅ ਸਭੇ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਦਾ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਰਮਈਆ ਸੋਇ ॥
har jee-a sabhay partipaaldaa ghat ghat rama-ee-aa so-ay.
God sustains all beings and He pervades each and every heart.
ਉਹ ਹਰੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਪਾਲਣਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਉਹ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਰਾਮ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ।
ਸੋ ਹਰਿ ਸਦਾ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥
so har sadaa Dhi-aa-ee-ai tis bin avar na ko-ay.
Always remember that God as there is no other besides Him.
ਸਦੀਵ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ। ਉਸ ਦੇ ਬਗੈਰ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਜੋ ਮੋਹਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਦੇ ਸੇ ਛੋਡਿ ਚਲੇ ਦੁਖੁ ਰੋਇ ॥
jo mohi maa-i-aa chit laa-iday say chhod chalay dukh ro-ay.
Those who keep their mind fixed on Maya (worldly illusions) regret their mistakes at the time of death, and depart leaving everything behind.
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣਾ ਚਿੱਤ ਲਾਈ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਮੌਤ ਆਉਣ ਤੇ ਕੀਰਨੇ ਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਸਖਾਈ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥
jan naanak naam Dhi-aa-i-aa har ant sakhaa-ee ho-ay. ||1||
O Nanak, those who remembered God with loving devotion, God surely helps them in the end.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਵਿਚ ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ, ਹਰੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਜ਼ਰੂਰ ਮਦਦਗਾਰ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ
ਮੈ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥
mai har bin avar na ko-ay.
Besides God, I do not have anyone else to fall back on.
ਤੇਰੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਹੈ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ! ਮੇਰਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਆਸਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਪਾਈਐ ਵਣਜਾਰਿਆ ਮਿਤ੍ਰਾ ਵਡਭਾਗਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

O my merchant friend, only through great good fortune, God is realized in the Guru’s refuge.
