paava-o Dhoor tayray daas kee naanak kurbaanee. ||4||3||33||
Nanak prays, O’ God! I may obtain the humble service of Your devotees and dedicate myself to them. ||4||3||33||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਦੇ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਕ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਸਕਾਂ, ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਵਾਂ, ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਨਾਨਕ ॥੪॥੩॥੩੩॥

ਰਾਖਹੁ ਅਪਨੀ ਸਰਣਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮੋਹਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੇ ॥
raakho apnee saran parabh mohi kirpaa Dhaaray.
O’ God, bestow mercy and keep me in Your refuge;
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਹੀ ਸਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖ।
ਸੇਵਾ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਨਊ ਨੀਚੁ ਮੂਰਖਾਰੇ ॥੧॥
sayvaa kachhoo na jaan-oo neech moorkhaaray. ||1||
I am a wretched and foolish person who does not know how to perform devotional worship. ||1||
ਮੈਂ ਨੀਵੇਂ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਂ ਮੂਰਖ ਹਾਂ। ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਜਾਚ-ਅਕਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਮਾਨੁ ਕਰਉ ਤੁਧੁ ਊਪਰੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥
maan kara-o tuDh oopray mayray pareetam pi-aaray.
O’ my beloved God! I have so much confidence in You,
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ! ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਭਰੋਸਾ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਹਮ ਅਪਰਾਧੀ ਸਦ ਭੂਲਤੇ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਬਖਸਨਹਾਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ham apraaDhee sad bhooltay tumH bakhsanhaaray. ||1|| rahaa-o.
that we, the sinners, keep making mistakes and You are always the forgiver. ||1||Pause||
ਅਸੀਂ ਜੀਵ ਸਦਾ ਅਪਰਾਧੀ ਹਾਂ, ਭੁੱਲਾਂ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਾਂ, ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਹਮ ਅਵਗਨ ਕਰਹ ਅਸੰਖ ਨੀਤਿ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਨਿਰਗੁਨ ਦਾਤਾਰੇ ॥
ham avgan karah asaNkh neet tumH nirgun daataaray.
O’ God, we commit a myriad of sins every day, but still You are the benefactor to us, the unvirtuous ones.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਅਸੀਂ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਅਣਗਿਣਤ ਔਗੁਣ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਾਂ, ਤੂੰ (ਫਿਰ ਭੀ) ਸਾਨੂੰ ਗੁਣ-ਹੀਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਦਾਸੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਏ ਕਰਮ ਹਮਾਰੇ ॥੨॥
daasee sangat parabhoo ti-aag ay karam hamaaray. ||2||
O’ God! such are our foolish deeds that, forsaking You (the Master), we keep our company with Maya, Your servant. ||2||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਸਾਡੇ ਨਿੱਤ ਦੇ ਕਰਮ ਤਾਂ ਇਹ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਅਸੀਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾ ਕੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਟਹਿਲਣ (ਮਾਇਆ) ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਾਂ ॥੨॥
ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਦੇਵਹੁ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਦਇਆ ਧਾਰਿ ਹਮ ਅਕਿਰਤਘਨਾਰੇ ॥
tumH dayvhu sabh kichh da-i-aa Dhaar ham akirat-ghanaaray.
O’ God! We living beings are ungrateful people; but still bestowing mercy, You bless us with everything.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਅਸੀਂ (ਜੀਵ) ਨਾ-ਸ਼ੁਕਰੇ ਹਾਂ; ਤੂੰ (ਫਿਰ ਭੀ) ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਹਰੇਕ ਚੀਜ਼ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਲਾਗਿ ਪਰੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਾਨ ਸਿਉ ਨਹ ਚਿਤਿ ਖਸਮਾਰੇ ॥੩॥
laag paray tayray daan si-o nah chit khasmaaray. ||3||
O’ the master God, we do not enshrine You in our minds, instead we remain attached to the gifts You have bestowed us. ||3||
ਹੇ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਅਸੀਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਸਾਂਦੇ, ਸਦਾ ਤੇਰੀਆਂ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਚੰਬੜੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਾਂ ॥੩॥
ਤੁਝ ਤੇ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਕਿਛੁ ਨਹੀ ਭਵ ਕਾਟਨਹਾਰੇ ॥
tujh tay baahar kichh nahee bhav kaatanhaaray.
O’ God, the destroyer of the cycle of birth and death, nothing is beyond Your control.
ਹੇ ਜਨਮ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਕੱਟਣ ਵਾਲੇ! (ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਚੀਜ਼ ਤੈਥੋਂ ਆਕੀ ਨਹੀਂ ।
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਣਿ ਦਇਆਲ ਗੁਰ ਲੇਹੁ ਮੁਗਧ ਉਧਾਰੇ ॥੪॥੪॥੩੪॥
kaho naanak saran da-i-aal gur layho mugaDh uDhaaray. ||4||4||34||
Nanak says: O’ the merciful Guru, we have come to Your refuge; please save us, the fools from the vices. ||4||4||34||
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- ਹੇ ਦਇਆ ਦੇ ਸੋਮੇ ਗੁਰੂ! ਅਸੀਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਏ ਹਾਂ, ਸਾਨੂੰ ਮੂਰਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਔਗੁਣਾਂ ਭੁੱਲਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾਈ ਰੱਖ ॥੪॥੪॥੩੪॥

Raag Bilaaval, Fifth Guru:
ਦੋਸੁ ਨ ਕਾਹੂ ਦੀਜੀਐ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਪਨਾ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥
dos na kaahoo deejee-ai parabh apnaa Dhi-aa-ee-ai.
We should not blame anybody for our troubles; instead we should meditate on our God with adoration.
(ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਭੁੱਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ) ਮਿਲ ਰਹੇ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਨੂੰ ਦੋਸ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੇਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ, ਆਪਣੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈਂ l
ਜਿਤੁ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ਘਨਾ ਮਨ ਸੋਈ ਗਾਈਐ ॥੧॥
jit sayvi-ai sukh ho-ay ghanaa man so-ee gaa-ee-ai. ||1||
We should sing praises of that God alone, by meditating on whom we get immense celestial peace. ||1||
ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਸੁਖ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸੇ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਕਹੀਐ ਕਾਇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਤੁਝੁ ਬਿਨਾ ॥
kahee-ai kaa-ay pi-aaray tujh binaa.
O’ beloved God, other than You, who should we talk to about our woes?
ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਕਲੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਤੈਥੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਕਿਸ ਦੇ ਪਾਸ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਵੇ?
ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਦਇਆਲ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸਭ ਅਵਗਨ ਹਮਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tumH da-i-aal su-aamee sabh avgan hamaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O’ the Master-God, You are always merciful; whereas we human beings are full of vices. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਤਾਂ ਸਦਾ ਦਇਆ ਦਾ ਘਰ ਹੈਂ, ਸਾਰੇ ਔਗੁਣ ਅਸਾਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਹੀ ਹਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਜਿਉ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਤਿਉ ਰਹਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨਹੀ ਚਾਰਾ ॥
ji-o tumH raakho ti-o rahaa avar nahee chaaraa.
O’ God, I live as You keep me; there is no other way out.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਮੈਂ ਉਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੀ ਰਹਿ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਹੀਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ l
ਨੀਧਰਿਆ ਧਰ ਤੇਰੀਆ ਇਕ ਨਾਮ ਅਧਾਰਾ ॥੨॥
neeDhri-aa Dhar tayree-aa ik naam aDhaaraa. ||2||
O’ God, You are the support of the people who are without any support; Your Name is my only support. ||2||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਨਿਓਟਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਓਟ ਹੈਂ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਜੋ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਕਰਹੁ ਸੋਈ ਭਲਾ ਮਨਿ ਲੇਤਾ ਮੁਕਤਾ ॥
jo tumH karahu so-ee bhalaa man laytaa muktaa.
O’ God, whatever You do is good, and the one who accepts it, is liberated.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਤੂੰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਭਲੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਮੰਨ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮੁਕਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਗਲ ਸਮਗ੍ਰੀ ਤੇਰੀਆ ਸਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਜੁਗਤਾ ॥੩॥
sagal samagree tayree-aa sabh tayree jugtaa. ||3||
O’ God, the entire creation of the world is Yours; all are functioning subject to Your command. ||3||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਤੇਰੇ ਬਣਾਏ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ, ਸਾਰੀ ਸਮਗ੍ਰੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਮਰਯਾਦਾ ਵਿਚ ਚੱਲ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਚਰਨ ਪਖਾਰਉ ਕਰਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਜੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਭਾਵੈ ॥
charan pakhaara-o kar sayvaa jay thaakur bhaavai.
O’ Master-God, if it pleases You, bless me that I may remain engaged in Your devotional worship with utmost humility.
ਹੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗੇ, ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਚਰਨ ਧੋਂਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ ( ਹਉਮੈ ਤਿਆਗ ਕੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਡਿੱਗਾ ਰਹਾਂ)।
ਹੋਹੁ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਦਇਆਲ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ॥੪॥੫॥੩੫॥
hohu kirpaal da-i-aal parabh naanak gun gaavai. ||4||5||35||
O’ merciful God, bless that Your devotee Nanak may keep singing Your praises. ||4||5||35||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੋ, ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਤਾ ਕਿ ਤੇਰਾ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹੇ ॥੪॥੫॥੩੫॥

ਮਿਰਤੁ ਹਸੈ ਸਿਰ ਊਪਰੇ ਪਸੂਆ ਨਹੀ ਬੂਝੈ ॥
mirat hasai sir oopray pasoo-aa nahee boojhai.
Death hovers over everyone’s head, laughing, but the animal natured person does not realize it.
ਮੌਤ ਹਰੇਕ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਖਲੋਤੀ ਹੱਸ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਪਸ਼ੂ -ਸੁਭਾਉ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਬਾਦ ਸਾਦ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਮਹਿ ਮਰਣਾ ਨਹੀ ਸੂਝੈ ॥੧॥
baad saad ahaNkaar meh marnaa nahee soojhai. ||1||
Being involved in conflicts, pleasures, and pride, the thought of death does not even enter his mind. ||1||
ਝਗੜਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ (ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ) ਸੁਆਦਾਂ ਵਿਚ, ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਵਿਚ (ਫਸ ਕੇ) ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਮੌਤ ਸੁੱਝਦੀ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ॥੧॥
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਹੁ ਆਪਨਾ ਕਾਹੇ ਫਿਰਹੁ ਅਭਾਗੇ ॥
satgur sayvhu aapnaa kaahay firahu abhaagay.
O’ the unfortunate one, why are you wandering around aimlessly? You are better off following the teachings of your true Guru.
ਹੇ ਬਦ-ਕਿਸਮਤ! ਕਿਉਂ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ? ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆ ਰਹੁ।
ਦੇਖਿ ਕਸੁੰਭਾ ਰੰਗੁਲਾ ਕਾਹੇ ਭੂਲਿ ਲਾਗੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
daykh kasumbhaa rangulaa kaahay bhool laagay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Seeing the short lived worldly pleasures, like the beauty of a colorful safflower, why are you mistakenly attached to these? ||1||Pause||
ਸੋਹਣੇ ਰੰਗ ਵਾਲਾ ਕਸੁੰਭਾ (ਮਨ-ਮੋਹਨੀ ਮਾਇਆ) ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਕਿਉਂ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪੈ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ? ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਪਾਪ ਦਰਬੁ ਕੀਆ ਵਰਤਣ ਕੈ ਤਾਈ ॥
kar kar paap darab kee-aa vartan kai taa-ee.
By continuously committing sins, one kept amassing worldly wealth for his use,
ਪਾਪ ਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਰਤਣ ਲਈ ਧਨ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ,
ਮਾਟੀ ਸਿਉ ਮਾਟੀ ਰਲੀ ਨਾਗਾ ਉਠਿ ਜਾਈ ॥੨॥
maatee si-o maatee ralee naagaa uth jaa-ee. ||2||
but in the end, the person departs naked (without the worldly wealth) and the ashes of the dead body merged with dirt. ||2||
(ਪਰ ਮੌਤ ਆਉਣ ਤੇ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਦੀ) ਮਿੱਟੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਰਲ ਗਈ, ਤੇ, ਜੀਵ ਖ਼ਾਲੀ-ਹੱਥ ਹੀ ਉੱਠ ਕੇ ਤੁਰ ਪਿਆ ॥੨॥
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਕੀਐ ਸ੍ਰਮੁ ਕਰੈ ਤੇ ਬੈਰ ਬਿਰੋਧੀ ॥
jaa kai kee-ai saram karai tay bair biroDhee.
Those for whom one works so hard to amass wealth, they become his spiteful enemies.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸੰਬੰਧੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਧਨ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਮੇਹਨਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਇਸ ਨਾਲ ਵੈਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਦੁਸ਼ਮਣ ਬਣਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਅੰਤ ਕਾਲਿ ਭਜਿ ਜਾਹਿਗੇ ਕਾਹੇ ਜਲਹੁ ਕਰੋਧੀ ॥੩॥
ant kaal bhaj jaahigay kaahay jalahu karoDhee. ||3||
In the end, they all run away abandoning you; so why do you agonize yourself in anger for their sake? ||3||
ਤੂੰ ਕਿਉਂ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਵਿਚ ਸੜਦਾ ਹੈਂ? ਇਹ ਤਾਂ ਆਖ਼ਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਸਾਥ ਛੱਡ ਜਾਣਗੇ ॥੩॥
ਦਾਸ ਰੇਣੁ ਸੋਈ ਹੋਆ ਜਿਸੁ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਕਰਮਾ ॥
daas rayn so-ee ho-aa jis mastak karmaa.
He alone, who is predestined, becomes the humble servant of God’s devotees.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਭਾਗ ਜਾਗਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨ-ਧੂੜ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਬੰਧਨ ਛੁਟੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸਰਨਾ ॥੪॥੬॥੩੬॥
kaho naanak banDhan chhutay satgur kee sarnaa. ||4||6||36||
Nanak say, worldly bonds are released by following the teachings of the true Guru. ||4||6||36||
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ) ਬੰਧਨ ਟੁੱਟ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੪॥੬॥੩੬॥

Raag Bilaaval, Fifth Guru:
ਪਿੰਗੁਲ ਪਰਬਤ ਪਾਰਿ ਪਰੇ ਖਲ ਚਤੁਰ ਬਕੀਤਾ ॥
pingul parbat paar paray khal chatur bakeetaa.
The cripples cross over the mountains, the fools become wise and great orators,
ਲੂਲ੍ਹੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਹਾੜਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਮਹਾ ਮੂਰਖ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਿਆਣੇ ਵਖਿਆਨ-ਕਰਤਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਸੂਝਿਆ ਗੁਰ ਭੇਟਿ ਪੁਨੀਤਾ ॥੧॥
anDhulay taribhavan soojhi-aa gur bhayt puneetaa. ||1||
the spiritually ignorants acquire knowledge of the three worlds, and the sinners become immaculate by following the teachings of the true Guru. ||1||
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ (ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਨੂੰ ਤਿੰਨਾ ਭਵਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੋਝੀ ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਮਹਿਮਾ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗ ਕੀ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਮੀਤਾ ॥
mahimaa saaDhoo sang kee sunhu mayray meetaa.
O’ my friends, listen carefully about the glory of the Guru’s company,
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ (ਧਿਆਨ ਨਾਲ) ਸੁਣ।
ਮੈਲੁ ਖੋਈ ਕੋਟਿ ਅਘ ਹਰੇ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਭਏ ਚੀਤਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
mail kho-ee kot agh haray nirmal bha-ay cheetaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
where the dirt of vices is washed off, millions of sins are dispelled and mind becomes immaculate . ||1||Pause||
ਜਿਥੇ ਮਨ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਪਾਪ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਐਸੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਕੀ ਕੀਟਿ ਹਸਤੀ ਜੀਤਾ ॥
aisee bhagat govind kee keet hastee jeetaa.
Such is the devotional worship of God, by virtue of which the ant-like humility wins over the elephant-like egotism.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਅਚਰਜ (ਤਾਕਤ ਰੱਖਦੀ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਕੀੜੀ (ਨਿਮ੍ਰਤਾ) ਨੇ ਹਾਥੀ (ਅਹੰਕਾਰ) ਨੂੰ ਜਿੱਤ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਜੋ ਜੋ ਕੀਨੋ ਆਪਨੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਅਭੈ ਦਾਨੁ ਦੀਤਾ ॥੨॥
jo jo keeno aapno tis abhai daan deetaa. ||2||
Whom God makes His own, he is blessed with the gift of fearlessness. ||2||
ਜਿਸ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ) ਆਪਣਾ ਬਣਾ ਲਿਆ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਨਿਰਭੈਤਾ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤੀ ॥੨॥
ਸਿੰਘੁ ਬਿਲਾਈ ਹੋਇ ਗਇਓ ਤ੍ਰਿਣੁ ਮੇਰੁ ਦਿਖੀਤਾ ॥
singh bilaa-ee ho-ay ga-i-o tarin mayr dikheetaa.
The lion-like egotism changes into a cat-like humility, and the straw- like weakness of a person seems like the strength of a mountain.
ਸ਼ੇਰ (ਅਹੰਕਾਰ) ਬਿੱਲੀ (ਨਿਮ੍ਰਤਾ) ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੀਲਾ (ਗ਼ਰੀਬੀ ਸੁਭਾਉ) ਸੁਮੇਰ ਪਰਬਤ (ਬੜੀ ਵੱਡੀ ਤਾਕਤ) ਦਿੱਸਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
