ਕਾਮਿ ਕ੍ਰੋਧਿ ਲੋਭਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਮਨੁ ਲੀਨਾ ॥
kaam kroDh lobh mohi man leenaa.
The mind remains engrossed in lust, anger, greed, and emotional attachment.
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਵਿਚ ਲੋਭ ਵਿਚ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਬੰਧਨ ਕਾਟਿ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਗੁਰਿ ਕੀਨਾ ॥੨॥
banDhan kaat mukat gur keenaa. ||2||
But the Guru liberates it by cutting away the bonds of these vices. ||2||
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਕੱਟ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤੀ ॥੨॥
ਦੁਖ ਸੁਖ ਕਰਤ ਜਨਮਿ ਫੁਨਿ ਮੂਆ ॥
dukh sukh karat janam fun moo-aa.
Experiencing sorrows and pleasures, one was going through the cycle of birth and death,
ਦੁੱਖ ਸੁਖ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮੁੜ-ਮੁੜ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਤੇ ਮਰਦਾ ਸੀ l
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਗੁਰਿ ਆਸ੍ਰਮੁ ਦੀਆ ॥੩॥
charan kamal gur aasram dee-aa. ||3||
and now the Guru has blessed that person with the shelter of his teachings. ||3||
ਹੁਣ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਕੰਵਲਾਂ ਦਾ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।॥੩॥
ਅਗਨਿ ਸਾਗਰ ਬੂਡਤ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥
agan saagar boodat sansaaraa.
The world is drowning in the sea of the fire of worldly desires,
ਜਗਤ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਦੇ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚ ਡੁੱਬ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਬਾਹ ਪਕਰਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਾ ॥੪॥੩॥੮॥
naanak baah pakar satgur nistaaraa. ||4||3||8||
O’ Nanak, extending his support the true Guru ferried him across the worldly ocean of vices. ||4||3||8||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ!(ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆ) ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਬਾਂਹ ਫੜ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ॥੪॥੩॥੮॥

Raag Bilaaval, Fifth Guru:
ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਅਰਪਉ ਸਭੁ ਅਪਨਾ ॥
tan man Dhan arpa-o sabh apnaa.
I surrender my body, mind, wealth, and everything to the person,
ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਰੀਰ, ਮਨ ਅਤੇ ਧਨ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਭੇਟਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।
ਕਵਨ ਸੁ ਮਤਿ ਜਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਨਾ ॥੧॥
kavan so mat jit har har japnaa. ||1||
who would impart me that good advice, through which one can meditate on God’s Name. ||1||
ਜੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਚੰਗੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਦੇ ਦੇਵੇ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਕਰਿ ਆਸਾ ਆਇਓ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮਾਗਨਿ ॥
kar aasaa aa-i-o parabh maagan.
O’ God, I have come with a great hope to beg from You the gift of Naam.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਆਸਾ ਧਾਰ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ (ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ) ਮੰਗਣ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ।
ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਪੇਖਤ ਸੋਭਾ ਮੇਰੈ ਆਗਨਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tumH paykhat sobhaa mayrai aagan. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Beholding You, I feel so delighted and inspired as if there is splendor in my heart. ||1||Pause||
ਤੇਰਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਵੇਹੜੇ ਵਿਚ ਉਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਅਨਿਕ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਉ ॥
anik jugat kar bahut beechaara-o.
Trying several methods, I reflect deeply on God’s virtues,
ਮੈਂ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਢੰਗ (ਆਪਣੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ) ਰੱਖ ਕੇ ਬੜਾ ਵਿਚਾਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਇਸੁ ਮਨਹਿ ਉਧਾਰਉ ॥੨॥
saaDhsang is maneh uDhaara-o. ||2||
(and have come to the conclusion that) it is only in the company of saintly people I could save this mind from the worldly evils. ||2||
ਤੇ ਇਹੀ ਸਮਝ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ (ਹੀ) ਇਸ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਮੈਂ ਬਚਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੨॥
ਮਤਿ ਬੁਧਿ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ॥
mat buDh surat naahee chaturaa-ee.
God cannot be realized through any intellect, wisdom, concentration, or cleverness.
ਕਿਸੇ ਮਤਿ, ਕਿਸੇ ਅਕਲ, ਕਿਸੇ ਧਿਆਨ, ਕਿਸੇ ਭੀ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਤਾ ਮਿਲੀਐ ਜਾ ਲਏ ਮਿਲਾਈ ॥੩॥
taa milee-ai jaa la-ay milaa-ee. ||3||
We can unite with Him only when He Himself unites us with Him. ||3||
ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਨੈਨ ਸੰਤੋਖੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
nain santokhay parabh darsan paa-i-aa.
A person whose eyes are satiated from the worldly desires by experiencing the blessed vision of God,
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਦਰਸਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਜਿਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਵਲੋਂ) ਰੱਜ ਗਈਆਂ ਹਨ,
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਫਲੁ ਸੋ ਆਇਆ ॥੪॥੪॥੯॥
kaho naanak safal so aa-i-aa. ||4||4||9||
blessed is the advent of such a person in this world, says Nanak. ||4||4||9||
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਆਉਣਾ ਮੁਬਾਰਿਕ ਹੈ, ॥੪॥੪॥੯॥

Raag Bilaaval, Fifth Guru:
ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਸੁਤ ਸਾਥਿ ਨ ਮਾਇਆ ॥
maat pitaa sut saath na maa-i-aa.
Neither mother, father, children nor Maya becomes one’s companion forever,
ਮਾਂ, ਪਿਉ, ਪੁੱਤਰ, ਮਾਇਆ-(ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਜੀਵ ਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ) ਸਾਥੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣ ਸਕਦਾ,
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਸਭੁ ਦੂਖੁ ਮਿਟਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
saaDhsang sabh dookh mitaa-i-aa. ||1||
but all sufferings can be dispelled in the company of the saints. ||1||
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆਂ ਸਾਰਾ ਦੁੱਖ-ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਆਪੇ ॥
rav rahi-aa parabh sabh meh aapay.
God Himself is pervading all,
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ,
ਹਰਿ ਜਪੁ ਰਸਨਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਨ ਵਿਆਪੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
har jap rasnaa dukh na vi-aapay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
keep meditating on Him with your tongue and no sorrow would ever afflict you. ||1||Pause||
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਜਾਪ ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹੁ (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਕੋਈ ਦੁੱਖ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਤਿਖਾ ਭੂਖ ਬਹੁ ਤਪਤਿ ਵਿਆਪਿਆ ॥
tikhaa bhookh baho tapat vi-aapi-aa.
The world is afflicted by the yearning for Maya and the fire of worldly desires,
ਜਗਤ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਭੁੱਖ ਤੇ ਸੜਨ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ,
ਸੀਤਲ ਭਏ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਜਾਪਿਆ ॥੨॥
seetal bha-ay har har jas jaapi-aa. ||2||
but those who meditate on God and sing His praises, become tranquil. ||2||
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ) ਠੰਢੇ-ਠਾਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੨॥
ਕੋਟਿ ਜਤਨ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
kot jatan santokh na paa-i-aa.
Contentment is not obtained through millions of ritualistic efforts,
ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਜਤਨ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਭੀ ਸੰਤੋਖ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ।
ਮਨੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
man tariptaanaa har gun gaa-i-aa. ||3||
but the mind becomes satiated by singing praises of God. ||3||
ਪਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂਇਆਂ ਮਨ ਰੱਜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਦੇਹੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥
dayh bhagat parabh antarjaamee.
O’ the omniscient God, bless me with Your devotional worship;
ਹੇ ਹਰੇਕ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਦਾ ਦਾਨ ਦੇਹ;
ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥੪॥੫॥੧੦॥
naanak kee baynantee su-aamee. ||4||5||10||
this is Nanak’s prayer, O’ the Master-God. ||4||5||10||
ਹੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀ (ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਏਹੋ) ਬੇਨਤੀ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੫॥੧੦॥

Raag Bilaaval, Fifth Guru:
ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
gur pooraa vadbhaagee paa-ee-ai.
One meets with the perfect Guru only by great good fortune.
ਪੂਰੀ ਵੱਡੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਨਾਲ (ਹੀ) ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥੧॥
mil saaDhoo har naam Dhi-aa-ee-ai. ||1||
It is only by meeting the Guru and following his teachings that one can meditate on God’s Name with loving devotion.||1||
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ (ਹੀ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨਾ ॥
paarbarahm parabh tayree sarnaa.
O’ Supreme God, I have come to Your refuge.
ਹੇ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਮੈਂ) ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ l
ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਕਾਟੈ ਭਜੁ ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਚਰਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kilbikh kaatai bhaj gur kay charnaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O’ my friend, by lovingly meditating on God through the Guru’s teachings, all one’s sins are eradicated. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾ ਲੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਪ ਕੱਟ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਅਵਰਿ ਕਰਮ ਸਭਿ ਲੋਕਾਚਾਰ ॥
avar karam sabh lokaachaar.
All other ritualistic deeds are just to impress other people;
ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਕਰਮਕਾਂਡ ਕੇਵਲ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਵਿਹਾਰ ਹਨ,
ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਹੋਇ ਉਧਾਰ ॥੨॥
mil saaDhoo sang ho-ay uDhaar. ||2||
it is only by joining the company of the Guru that one is ferried across the worldly ocean of vices. ||2||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ (ਹੀ) ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ-ਉਤਾਰਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਾਸਤ ਬੇਦ ਬੀਚਾਰੇ ॥
simrit saasat bayd beechaaray.
I have contemplated the Smritis, Shastras and Vedas and have concluded,
ਸਾਰੇ ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰ, ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਵੇਦ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕੇ ਵੇਖ ਲਏ ਹਨ।
ਜਪੀਐ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰੇ ॥੩॥
japee-ai naam jit paar utaaray. ||3||
that we should meditate on Naam through which the Guru ferries us across the worldly ocean of vices. ||3||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਸਿਮਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੀਐ ॥
jan naanak ka-o parabh kirpaa karee-ai.
O’ God, bestow mercy on Your devotee Nanak,
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਆਪਣੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਉਤੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ।
ਸਾਧੂ ਧੂਰਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਨਿਸਤਰੀਐ ॥੪॥੬॥੧੧॥
saaDhoo Dhoor milai nistaree-ai. ||4||6||11||
that he may humbly follow the Guru’s teachings and swim across the worldly ocean of vices. ||4||6||11||
(ਤੇਰੇ ਦਾਸ ਨੂੰ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਏ। (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ) ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘੀਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੬॥੧੧॥

Raag Bilaaval, Fifth Guru:
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਰਿਦੇ ਮਹਿ ਚੀਨਾ ॥
gur kaa sabad riday meh cheenaa.
Those who reflected upon and enshrined the Guru’s word in their heart,
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਚਾਰਿਆ,
ਸਗਲ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਪੂਰਨ ਆਸੀਨਾ ॥੧॥
sagal manorath pooran aaseenaa. ||1||
all their hopes and objectives of life were fulfilled. ||1||
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਪੂਰੇ ਹੋ ਗਏ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਆਸਾਂ ਸਿਰੇ ਚੜ੍ਹ ਗਈਆਂ ॥੧॥
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਕਾ ਮੁਖੁ ਊਜਲੁ ਕੀਨਾ ॥
sant janaa kaa mukh oojal keenaa.
Those saintly persons received honor both here and hereafter,
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਮੂੰਹ (ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ) ਰੌਸ਼ਨ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ,
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੀਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kar kirpaa apunaa naam deenaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
God bestowed mercy and blessed those saintly persons with His Name. ||1||Pause||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਅੰਧ ਕੂਪ ਤੇ ਕਰੁ ਗਹਿ ਲੀਨਾ ॥
anDh koop tay kar geh leenaa.
Those whom God pulled out of the deep dark pit of Maya by extending His support,
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਹਨੇਰੇ ਖੂਹ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਹੱਥ ਫੜ ਕੇ ਕੱਢ ਲਿਆ।
ਜੈ ਜੈ ਕਾਰੁ ਜਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਟੀਨਾ ॥੨॥

ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਬੜੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਖਿਲਰ ਗਈ ॥੨॥
ਨੀਚਾ ਤੇ ਊਚ ਊਨ ਪੂਰੀਨਾ ॥
neechaa tay ooch oon pooreenaa.
Those devoid of any virtues became virtuous and their low social status was exalted,
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੀਵਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚੇ ਬਣ ਗਏ, ਉਹ (ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਸੱਖਣੇ (ਗੁਣਾਂ ਨਾਲ) ਭਰ ਗਏ,
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਹਾ ਰਸੁ ਲੀਨਾ ॥੩॥
amrit naam mahaa ras leenaa. ||3||
and they started meditating on the sublime nectar-like ambrosial Naam. ||3||
ਤੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਅਤੇ ਬੜਾ ਸੁਆਦਲਾ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ॥੩॥
ਮਨ ਤਨ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਪਾਪ ਜਲਿ ਖੀਨਾ ॥
man tan nirmal paap jal kheenaa.
Their mind and body became immaculate and all their sins got burnt down.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹੋ ਗਏ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਪ ਸੜ ਕੇ ਸੁਆਹ ਹੋ ਗਏ.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਏ ਪ੍ਰਸੀਨਾ ॥੪॥੭॥੧੨॥
kaho naanak parabh bha-ay parseenaa. ||4||7||12||
Nanak says, God became pleased with them. ||4||7||12||
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- ( ਉਹਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੋ ਗਏ ॥੪॥੭॥੧੨॥

ਸਗਲ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਪਾਈਅਹਿ ਮੀਤਾ ॥
sagal manorath paa-ee-ah meetaa.
O’ my friend, we fulfill the purpose of our life,
ਹੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ! (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ) ਮਨ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਮੁਰਾਦਾਂ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲਈਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ।
