ੴ ਸਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ ਅਕਾਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਅਜੂਨੀ ਸੈਭੰ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik-oNkaar sat naam kartaa purakh nirbha-o nirvair akaal moorat ajoonee saibhaN gur parsaad.
There is but one God whose Name is Truth (of eternal existence), creator of the universe, all-pervading, without fear, without enmity, independent of time, beyond the cycle of birth and death, self revealed, He can be realized by the Guru’s grace.
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ‘ਹੋਂਦ ਵਾਲਾ’ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦਾ ਰਚਨਹਾਰ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਸਭ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ, ਭੈ ਤੋਂ ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈ, ਵੈਰ-ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਸਰੂਪ ਕਾਲ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੈ, (ਭਾਵ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਨਾਸ-ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈ), ਜੋ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਤੋਂ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਜੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਤੂ ਸੁਲਤਾਨੁ ਕਹਾ ਹਉ ਮੀਆ ਤੇਰੀ ਕਵਨ ਵਡਾਈ ॥
too sultaan kahaa ha-o mee-aa tayree kavan vadaa-ee.
O’ God, You are a sovereign king, and if I call You a chief, how could that be Your glorification?
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਤੂੰ ਤਾਂ ਬਾਦਸ਼ਾਹ ਹੈ. ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਮੀਆਂ ਯਾ ਚੌਧਰੀ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਬੁਲਾਵਾਂ ਤਾਂ ਇਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਤੇਰੀ ਕਿਹੜੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਹੈ?
ਜੋ ਤੂ ਦੇਹਿ ਸੁ ਕਹਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਮੈ ਮੂਰਖ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥
jo too deh so kahaa su-aamee mai moorakh kahan na jaa-ee. ||1||
O’ my Master-God, whatever wisdom You bless me I express accordingly; I am ignorant and do not know what to say in Your praise.||1||
ਹੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਤਨਾ ਕੁ ਬਲ ਤੂੰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਮੈਂ ਉਤਨਾ ਕੁ ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਆਖ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ। ਮੈਂ ਅੰਞਾਣ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੇ ॥੧॥
ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਾ ਦੇਹਿ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥
tayray gun gaavaa deh bujhaa-ee.
O’ God, bless me with such intellect that I may be able to sing Your praises,
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਅਜੇਹੀ ਅਕਲ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰ ਸਕਾਂ।
ਜੈਸੇ ਸਚ ਮਹਿ ਰਹਉ ਰਜਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jaisay sach meh raha-o rajaa-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
and may live truthfully in accordance with Your will. ||1||Pause||
ਅਤੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਮੈਂ ਸੱਚ ਅੰਦਰ ਰਹਿ ਸਕਾਂ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਹੋਆ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਤੁਝ ਤੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਭ ਅਸਨਾਈ ॥
jo kichh ho-aa sabh kichh tujh tay tayree sabh asnaa-ee.
O’ God, whatever expanse of the world has happened, all of that has come from You, and it is all reminiscent of Your greatness.
ਇਹ ਜਿਤਨਾ ਕੁ ਜਗਤ ਬਣਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਇਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਤੈਥੋਂ ਹੀ ਬਣਿਆ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਸਾਰੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਬਜ਼ੁਰਗੀ ਹੈ।
ਤੇਰਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਮੈ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਕਿਆ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ॥੨॥
tayraa ant na jaanaa mayray saahib mai anDhulay ki-aa chaturaa-ee. ||2||
O’ my Master-God, I do not know the limit of Your virtues; I am an ignorant person and do not possess any wisdom or skills. ||2||
ਹੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣ ਸਕਦਾ। ਮੈਂ ਤੁੱਛ-ਅਕਲ ਹਾਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਿਚ ਕੋਈ ਐਸੀ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਕਿਆ ਹਉ ਕਥੀ ਕਥੇ ਕਥਿ ਦੇਖਾ ਮੈ ਅਕਥੁ ਨ ਕਥਨਾ ਜਾਈ ॥
ki-aa ha-o kathee kathay kath daykhaa mai akath na kathnaa jaa-ee.
O’ God, what can I say in Your glory? After singing Your praises when I look around, I realize that Your glories are vast and indescribable.
ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਬਿਲਕੁਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਹਿ ਸਕਦਾ। ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਆਖ ਆਖ ਕੇ ਜਦੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ (ਤਾਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਤੇਰਾ ਸਰੂਪ ਬਿਆਨ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਬਿਆਨ ਕਰਨ ਜੋਗਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਾਂ।
ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਆਖਾ ਤਿਲੁ ਤੇਰੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੩॥
jo tuDh bhaavai so-ee aakhaa til tayree vadi-aa-ee. ||3||
Therefore, whatever pleases You, I say only a little bit of that in Your glory. ||3||
ਤੇਰੀ ਰਤਾ ਮਾਤ੍ਰ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਭੀ ਜੇਹੜੀ ਮੈਂ ਆਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਉਹੀ ਆਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਜੋ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਭਾਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਏਤੇ ਕੂਕਰ ਹਉ ਬੇਗਾਨਾ ਭਉਕਾ ਇਸੁ ਤਨ ਤਾਈ ॥
aytay kookar ha-o baygaanaa bha-ukaa is tan taa-ee.
O’ God, there are many evils around me, which are like stray dogs and I am a stranger amongst them; I sing Your praises to shield myself from these evils.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਇਥੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਕੁੱਤੇ ਹਨ, ਮੈਂ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਓਪਰਾ ਆ ਫਸਿਆ ਹਾਂ, ਜਿਤਨੀ ਕੁ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਉਹ ਭੀ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਇਸ ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਕੁੱਤਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾਣ ਲਈ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।
ਭਗਤਿ ਹੀਣੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਜੇ ਹੋਇਗਾ ਤਾ ਖਸਮੈ ਨਾਉ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੪॥੧॥
bhagat heen naanak jay ho-igaa taa khasmai naa-o na jaa-ee. ||4||1||
Even if Nanak might be without Your devotional worship, still the glory of Nanak’s Master-God would not be diminished.||4||1||
ਭਾਵੇਂ ਨਾਨਕ ਭਗਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਸੱਖਣਾ ਭੀ ਹੋਵੇ, ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਖਸਮ ਦੀ ਇਹ ਸੋਭਾ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ ॥੪॥੧॥

Raag Bilaaval, first Guru:
ਮਨੁ ਮੰਦਰੁ ਤਨੁ ਵੇਸ ਕਲੰਦਰੁ ਘਟ ਹੀ ਤੀਰਥਿ ਨਾਵਾ ॥
man mandar tan vays kalandar ghat hee tirath naavaa.
My mind is like a temple, the dwelling for God, my body is like a humble sage and my heart is like a place of pilgrimage where I bathe every day.
ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਲਈ ਮੰਦਰ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਰਮਤਾ ਸਾਧੂ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਹੁਣ ਮੈਂ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਤੀਰਥ ਉਤੇ ਹੀ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਏਕੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਮੇਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਾਨਿ ਬਸਤੁ ਹੈ ਬਾਹੁੜਿ ਜਨਮਿ ਨ ਆਵਾ ॥੧॥
ayk sabad mayrai paraan basat hai baahurh janam na aavaa. ||1||
The divine word of God’s praises is now enshrined in my heart; therefore, I shall not be born again. ||1||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਇਸ ਲਈ ਮੈਂ ਮੁੜ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਵਾਂਗਾ ॥੧॥
ਮਨੁ ਬੇਧਿਆ ਦਇਆਲ ਸੇਤੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਈ ॥
man bayDhi-aa da-i-aal saytee mayree maa-ee.
O’ my mother, my mind is deeply imbued with the love of the merciful God.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਂ! (ਮੇਰਾ) ਮਨ ਦਇਆ-ਦੇ-ਘਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ) ਵਿਚ ਵਿੱਝ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਕਉਣੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਪੀਰ ਪਰਾਈ ॥
ka-un jaanai peer paraa-ee.
Who can feel the pain of another person?
ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਦੀ ਪੀੜ ਨੂੰ ਕੌਣ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ?
ਹਮ ਨਾਹੀ ਚਿੰਤ ਪਰਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ham naahee chint paraa-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
I think of none other than God. ||1||Pause||
ਮੈਂ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਦਾ ਖਿਆਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰ ਅਲਖ ਅਪਾਰਾ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਹਮਾਰੀ ॥
agam agochar alakh apaaraa chintaa karahu hamaaree.
O’ unperceivable, inaccessible, indescribable, and infinite God, You alone take care of us all.
ਹੇ ਅਪਹੁੰਚ! ਹੇ ਅਗੋਚਰ! ਹੇ ਅਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟ! ਹੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਾਡੀ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਮਹੀਅਲਿ ਭਰਿਪੁਰਿ ਲੀਣਾ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਰੀ ॥੨॥
jal thal mahee-al bharipur leenaa ghat ghat jot tumHaaree. ||2||
You pervade in all waters, lands, and skies, and Your divine light shines in every heart. ||2||
ਤੂੰ ਜਲ ਵਿਚ, ਧਰਤੀ ਵਿਚ, ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਵਿਚ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈਂ, ਹਰੇਕ (ਜੀਵ ਦੇ) ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਤੇਰੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਸਿਖ ਮਤਿ ਸਭ ਬੁਧਿ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਰੀ ਮੰਦਿਰ ਛਾਵਾ ਤੇਰੇ ॥
sikh mat sabh buDh tumHaaree mandir chhaavaa tayray.
O’ God, the body and mind of all people belong to You; all the knowledge, intellect and teachings are also Your blessings to them.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਤੇਰੇ ਹੀ ਰਚੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ, ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਅਕਲ ਸਮਝ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੈਥੋਂ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਹਿਬਾ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਾ ਨਿਤ ਤੇਰੇ ॥੩॥
tujh bin avar na jaanaa mayray saahibaa gun gaavaa nit tayray. ||3||
Therefore, except You, I do not recognize any other power and every day I sing Your praises. ||3||
ਤੇਰੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਦਾ ਮੈਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ। ਮੈਂ ਨਿਤ ਤੇਰੇ ਹੀ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੩॥
ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਭਿ ਸਰਣਿ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਰੀ ਸਰਬ ਚਿੰਤ ਤੁਧੁ ਪਾਸੇ ॥
jee-a jant sabh saran tumHaaree sarab chint tuDh paasay.
All creatures and living beings are dependent on Your support, and their well-being is under Your care.
ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਜੰਤ ਤੇਰੇ ਹੀ ਆਸਰੇ ਹਨ, ਤੈਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਦੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਦਾ ਫ਼ਿਕਰ ਹੈ।
ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਚੰਗਾ ਇਕ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਅਰਦਾਸੇ ॥੪॥੨॥
jo tuDh bhaavai so-ee changa ik naanak kee ardaasay. ||4||2||
O’ God, it is Nanak’s only prayer that whatever pleases You, may sound pleasing to me. ||4||2||
ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀ (ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ) ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਇਹੀ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਜੋ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਹੋਵੇ ਉਹ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗੀ ਲੱਗੇ ( ॥੪॥੨॥

Raag Bilaaval, first Guru:
ਆਪੇ ਸਬਦੁ ਆਪੇ ਨੀਸਾਨੁ ॥
aapay sabad aapay neesaan.
God Himself is the divine word and He Himself is the Insignia.
ਹਰੀ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਰੂਪ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਲਿਖਤ ਰੂਪ ਹੈ।
ਆਪੇ ਸੁਰਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਨੁ ॥
aapay surtaa aapay jaan.
God Himself is the listener of our prayers and He Himself is the knower of our sorrows and pains.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਅਰਦਾਸਾਂ) ਸੁਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਦੁੱਖ-ਦਰਦ) ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਪੇ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਤਾਣੁ ॥
aapay kar kar vaykhai taan.
God Himself creates the creation, and He Himself beholds His almighty power.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜਗਤ-ਰਚਨਾ ਰਚ ਕੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪਣਾ (ਇਹ) ਬਲ ਵੇਖ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਤੂ ਦਾਤਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥੧॥
too daataa naam parvaan. ||1||
O’ God, You are the benefactor to all, the one who is blessed with Your Name is approved in Your presence. ||1||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਭ ਦਾਤਾਂ) ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ, (ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਉਹ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ) ਕਬੂਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
