ਕਿਆ ਤੂ ਸੋਇਆ ਜਾਗੁ ਇਆਨਾ ॥
ki-aa too so-i-aa jaag i-aanaa.
O’ ignorant one, wake up, why are you still in the slumber in worldly affairs?
ਹੇ ਅੰਞਾਣ! ਹੋਸ਼ ਕਰ! ਤੂੰ ਕਿਉਂ ਸੌਂ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ?
ਤੈ ਜੀਵਨੁ ਜਗਿ ਸਚੁ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tai jeevan jag sach kar jaanaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
You have mistakenly assumed this worldly life to be eternal. ||1||Pause||
ਤੂੰ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਇਸ ਜੀਊਣ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਸਮਝ ਬੈਠਾ ਹੈਂ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਜਿਨਿ ਜੀਉ ਦੀਆ ਸੁ ਰਿਜਕੁ ਅੰਬਰਾਵੈ ॥
jin jee-o dee-aa so rijak ambraavai.
God who has given life, also provides for its sustenance.
ਜਿਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਜਿੰਦ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਰਿਜ਼ਕ ਭੀ ਅਪੜਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਭ ਘਟ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਹਾਟੁ ਚਲਾਵੈ ॥
sabh ghat bheetar haat chalaavai.
Dwelling in everybody, He is making efforts to procure the necessary sustenance.
ਸਾਰੇ ਸਰੀਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਬੈਠਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਉਹ ਆਪ ਰਿਜ਼ਕ ਦਾ ਆਹਰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਰਿ ਬੰਦਿਗੀ ਛਾਡਿ ਮੈ ਮੇਰਾ ॥
kar bandigee chhaad mai mayraa.
O’ mortal! lovingly remember God and renounce your egotism and self-conceit.
ਮੈਂ (ਇਤਨਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਹਾਂ) ਮੇਰੀ (ਇਤਨੀ ਮਲਕੀਅਤ ਹੈ)-ਛੱਡ ਇਹ ਗੱਲਾਂ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਬੰਦਗੀ ਕਰ।
ਹਿਰਦੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਰਿ ਸਵੇਰਾ ॥੨॥
hirdai naam samHaar savayraa. ||2||
And enshrine God’s Name in your heart when still you have time. ||2||
ਹੁਣ ਵੇਲੇ-ਸਿਰ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਂਭ ॥੨॥
ਜਨਮੁ ਸਿਰਾਨੋ ਪੰਥੁ ਨ ਸਵਾਰਾ ॥
janam siraano panth na savaaraa.
Your life is about to end and still you have not followed the righteous path in life.
ਉਮਰ ਮੁੱਕਣ ਤੇ ਆ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਰਾਹ ਸੁਚੱਜਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣਾਇਆ।
ਸਾਂਝ ਪਰੀ ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਅੰਧਿਆਰਾ ॥
saaNjh paree dah dis anDhi-aaraa.
Evening of life has set in and soon you will feel darkness everywhere.
ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀਸ਼ਾਮ ਪੈ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ, ਦਸੀਂ ਪਾਸੀਂ ਹਨੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਹਨੇਰਾ ਹੋਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਹਿ ਰਵਿਦਾਸ ਨਿਦਾਨਿ ਦਿਵਾਨੇ ॥
kahi ravidaas nidaan divaanay.
Ravidaas says! O’ ignorant and insane person,
ਰਵਿਦਾਸ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ-ਹੇ ਕਮਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ!
ਚੇਤਸਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਫਨ ਖਾਨੇ ॥੩॥੨॥
chaytas naahee dunee-aa fan khaanay. ||3||2||
you do not remember God, even when you know that this world is perishable. ||3||2||
ਤੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ, ਦੁਨੀਆ (ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਤੂੰ ਮਨ ਜੋੜੀ ਬੈਠਾ ਹੈਂ) ਅੰਤ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ ॥੩॥੨॥

ਊਚੇ ਮੰਦਰ ਸਾਲ ਰਸੋਈ ॥
oochay mandar saal raso-ee.
One may have lofty mansions and elaborate kitchens,
(ਜੇ) ਉੱਚੇ ਉੱਚੇ ਪੱਕੇ ਘਰ ਤੇ ਰਸੋਈ-ਖ਼ਾਨੇ ਹੋਣ (ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਕੀਹ ਹੋਇਆ?)
ਏਕ ਘਰੀ ਫੁਨਿ ਰਹਨੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥੧॥
ayk gharee fun rahan na ho-ee. ||1||
one is not allowed to stay in them even for a moment after death. ||1||
ਮੌਤ ਆਇਆਂ (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਇਕ ਘੜੀ ਭੀ (ਵਧੀਕ) ਖਲੋਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ॥੧॥
ਇਹੁ ਤਨੁ ਐਸਾ ਜੈਸੇ ਘਾਸ ਕੀ ਟਾਟੀ ॥
ih tan aisaa jaisay ghaas kee taatee.
This body is like a house of straw,
ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ (ਭੀ) ਘਾਹ ਦੇ ਛੱਪਰ ਵਾਂਗ ਹੀ ਹੈ।
ਜਲਿ ਗਇਓ ਘਾਸੁ ਰਲਿ ਗਇਓ ਮਾਟੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jal ga-i-o ghaas ral ga-i-o maatee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
when the grass is burnt, it mixes with dust, similar is the fate of our body. ||1||Pause||
ਘਾਹ ਸੜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਵਿਚ ਰਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਇਹੀ ਹਾਲ ਸਰੀਰ ਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ) ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਭਾਈ ਬੰਧ ਕੁਟੰਬ ਸਹੇਰਾ ॥ ਓਇ ਭੀ ਲਾਗੇ ਕਾਢੁ ਸਵੇਰਾ ॥੨॥
bhaa-ee banDh kutamb sahayraa. o-ay bhee laagay kaadh savayraa. ||2||
As soon as a person dies, one’s entire family and friends say: Let us take this dead body out as early as possible. ||2||
ਜਦੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਰਿਸ਼ਤੇਦਾਰ, ਪਰਵਾਰ, ਸੱਜਣ ਸਾਥੀ- ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਆਖਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਹੁਣ ਛੇਤੀ ਬਾਹਰ ਕੱਢੋ ॥੨॥
ਘਰ ਕੀ ਨਾਰਿ ਉਰਹਿ ਤਨ ਲਾਗੀ ॥
ghar kee naar ureh tan laagee.
Even his wife who was so much in love with him,
ਆਪਣੀ ਵਹੁਟੀ (ਭੀ) ਜੋ ਸਦਾ (ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਲੱਗੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਸੀ,
ਉਹ ਤਉ ਭੂਤੁ ਭੂਤੁ ਕਰਿ ਭਾਗੀ ॥੩॥
uh ta-o bhoot bhoot kar bhaagee. ||3||
runs away from his dead body, crying out “ghost ghost”. ||3||
ਉਹ ਤਾਂ “ਪ੍ਰੇਤ ਪ੍ਰੇਤ” ਪੁਕਾਰਦੀ ਹੋਈ ਉਸ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਦੂਰ ਭੱਜ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਕਹਿ ਰਵਿਦਾਸ ਸਭੈ ਜਗੁ ਲੂਟਿਆ ॥
kahi ravidaas sabhai jag looti-aa.
Ravidas says! the entire world is being plundered by the worldly attachment,
ਰਵਿਦਾਸ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ-ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਹੀ (ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ, ਜਾਇਦਾਦ ਨੂੰ, ਸੰਬੰਧੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਮਝ ਕੇ) ਠੱਗਿਆ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ,
ਹਮ ਤਉ ਏਕ ਰਾਮੁ ਕਹਿ ਛੂਟਿਆ ॥੪॥੩॥
ham ta-o ayk raam kahi chhooti-aa. ||4||3||
but I have escaped from such a fate by uttering the one God’s Name. ||4||3||
ਪਰ ਮੈਂ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ (ਇਸ ਠੱਗੀ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਿਆ ਹਾਂ ॥੪॥੩॥
ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik-oNkaar satgur parsaad.
One eternal God, realized by the grace of the True Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਰਾਗੁ ਸੂਹੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸੇਖ ਫਰੀਦ ਜੀ ਕੀ ॥

Raag Soohee, The hymns of Shaykh Fareed Jee:
ਤਪਿ ਤਪਿ ਲੁਹਿ ਲੁਹਿ ਹਾਥ ਮਰੋਰਉ ॥
tap tap luhi luhi haath marora-o.
I am wringing my hands, and burning with the pain of separation,
ਬੜੀ ਦੁਖੀ ਹੋ ਕੇ, ਬੜੀ ਤੜਫ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਹੁਣ ਹੱਥ ਮਲ ਰਹੀ ਹਾਂ,
ਬਾਵਲਿ ਹੋਈ ਸੋ ਸਹੁ ਲੋਰਉ ॥
baaval ho-ee so saho lora-o.
I have gone insane and I am wandering in search of my Husband-God.
ਝੱਲੀ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਹੁਣ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਖਸਮ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਭਦੀ ਫਿਰਦੀ ਹਾਂ।
ਤੈ ਸਹਿ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਕੀਆ ਰੋਸੁ ॥
tai seh man meh kee-aa ros.
O my Master-God, You are angry with me in Your mind.
ਹੇ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਰੋਸ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਮੁਝੁ ਅਵਗਨ ਸਹ ਨਾਹੀ ਦੋਸੁ ॥੧॥
mujh avgan sah naahee dos. ||1||
But it is not Your fault for my condition, it is me who is unvirtuous. ||1||
ਤੇਰਾ ਕੋਈ ਦੋਸ (ਮੇਰੀ ਇਸ ਭੈੜੀ ਹਾਲਤ ਬਾਰੇ) ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਔਗੁਣ ਸਨ ॥੧॥
ਤੈ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕੀ ਮੈ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਨੀ ॥
tai saahib kee mai saar na jaanee.
O’ my Master-God, I did not realize Your worth.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਾਲਿਕ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਕਦਰ ਨਾ ਜਾਤੀ।
ਜੋਬਨੁ ਖੋਇ ਪਾਛੈ ਪਛੁਤਾਨੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
joban kho-ay paachhai pachhutaanee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Having wasted my youth, now I am repenting. ||1||Pause||
ਜੁਆਨੀ ਦਾ ਵੇਲਾ ਗਵਾ ਕੇ ਹੁਣ ਪਿਛੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਝੁਰ ਰਹੀ ਹਾਂ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਕਾਲੀ ਕੋਇਲ ਤੂ ਕਿਤ ਗੁਨ ਕਾਲੀ ॥
kaalee ko-il too kit gun kaalee.
O black bird, what qualities have made you black?
ਹੇ ਕਾਲੀ ਕੋਇਲ! ਤੂੰ ਕਿਸ ਕਾਰਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਕਾਲੀ ਹੈਂ?
ਅਪਨੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਕੇ ਹਉ ਬਿਰਹੈ ਜਾਲੀ ॥
apnay pareetam kay ha-o birhai jaalee.
(The bird replies): I have been burnt by the separation from my beloved.
(ਕੋਇਲ ਭੀ ਇਹੀ ਉੱਤਰ ਦੇਂਦੀ ਹੈ) ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਦੇ ਵਿਛੋੜੇ ਨੇ ਸਾੜ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਪਿਰਹਿ ਬਿਹੂਨ ਕਤਹਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
pireh bihoon kateh sukh paa-ay.
How can any soul-bride find peace without her Husband-God?
(ਠੀਕ ਹੈ) ਖਸਮ ਤੋਂ ਵਿੱਛੁੜ ਕੇ ਕਿਥੇ ਕੋਈ ਸੁਖ ਪਾ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ?
ਜਾ ਹੋਇ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲੁ ਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥੨॥
jaa ho-ay kirpaal taa parabhoo milaa-ay. ||2||
When God becomes merciful, then on His own He unites one with Himself. ||2||
ਜਦੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਮਿਹਰਬਾਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਵਿਧਣ ਖੂਹੀ ਮੁੰਧ ਇਕੇਲੀ ॥
viDhan khoohee munDh ikaylee.
I, the lonely soul-bride, have fallen into a dreadful worldly well of vices,
(ਇਸ ਜਗਤ-ਰੂਪ) ਡਰਾਉਣੀ ਖੂਹੀ ਵਿਚ ਮੈਂ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਇਕੱਲੀ (ਡਿੱਗੀ ਪਈਹਾਂ,
ਨਾ ਕੋ ਸਾਥੀ ਨਾ ਕੋ ਬੇਲੀ ॥
naa ko saathee naa ko baylee.
I have no friends or mates here to help me out.
ਇਥੇ) ਕੋਈ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਾਥੀ ਨਹੀਂ (ਮੇਰੇ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਕੋਈ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਦਦਗਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਮੇਲੀ ॥
kar kirpaa parabh saaDhsang maylee.
But when becoming gracious, God united me with the company of the saints,
ਹੁਣ ਜਦੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸਤਸੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਹੈ,
ਜਾ ਫਿਰਿ ਦੇਖਾ ਤਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਅਲਹੁ ਬੇਲੀ ॥੩॥
jaa fir daykhaa taa mayraa alhu baylee. ||3||
and now wherever I look I find God, my friend.||3||
(ਸਤਸੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਕੇ) ਜਦੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਵੇਖਦੀ ਹਾਂ ਤਾਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮੇਰਾ ਰੱਬ ਬੇਲੀ ਦਿੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਵਾਟ ਹਮਾਰੀ ਖਰੀ ਉਡੀਣੀ ॥
vaat hamaaree kharee udeenee.
The path of life upon which we must walk is extremely difficult.
ਅਸਾਡਾ ਇਹ ਜੀਵਨ-ਪੰਧ ਬੜਾ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਹੈ,
ਖੰਨਿਅਹੁ ਤਿਖੀ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਪਿਈਣੀ ॥
khanni-ahu tikhee bahut pi-eenee.
It is sharper than a two-edged sword and is very narrow.
ਖੰਡੇ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਤਿੱਖਾ ਹੈ, ਬੜੀ ਤੇਜ਼ ਧਾਰ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਉਸੁ ਊਪਰਿ ਹੈ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਮੇਰਾ ॥
us oopar hai maarag mayraa.
Yes, we have to walk over that dreadful path.
ਇਸ ਦੇ ਉਤੋਂ ਦੀ ਅਸਾਂ ਲੰਘਣਾ ਹੈ।
ਸੇਖ ਫਰੀਦਾ ਪੰਥੁ ਸਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਰਿ ਸਵੇਰਾ ॥੪॥੧॥
saykh fareedaa panth samHaar savayraa. ||4||1||
Therefore, O’ sheikh Farid, plan and get ready for that path early in life. ||4||1||
ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ, ਹੇ ਫਰੀਦ! ਸਵੇਰੇ ਸਵੇਰੇ ਰਸਤਾ ਸੰਭਾਲ ॥੪॥੧॥

Raag Soohee, Lalit:
ਬੇੜਾ ਬੰਧਿ ਨ ਸਕਿਓ ਬੰਧਨ ਕੀ ਵੇਲਾ ॥
bayrhaa banDh na saki-o banDhan kee vaylaa.
O’ my friend, when it was the right time to make yourself a raft of God’s Name (to cross this worldly ocean of vices), then you were not able to do so.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਓਦੋਂ ਤੂੰ ਨਾਮ-ਰੂਪ ਬੇੜਾ ਤਿਆਰ ਨਾਹ ਕਰ ਸਕਿਆ, ਜਦੋਂ ਬੇੜਾ ਬਨਾਣ ਦਾ ਵੇਲਾ ਸੀ,
ਭਰਿ ਸਰਵਰੁ ਜਬ ਊਛਲੈ ਤਬ ਤਰਣੁ ਦੁਹੇਲਾ ॥੧॥
bhar sarvar jab oochhlai tab taran duhaylaa. ||1||
When the sea is overflowing and tumultuous, then it is difficult to swim across it; (similarly it is impossible to control the mind overflowing with vices). ||1||
ਜਦੋਂ ਸਰੋਵਰ (ਨਕਾ ਨਕ) ਭਰ ਕੇ (ਬਾਹਰ) ਉਛਲਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਦੋਂ ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਤਰਨਾ ਔਖਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ; ਜਦੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਅੱਤ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਸਕੇ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਨਿਕਲਣਾ ਔਖਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ॥੧॥
ਹਥੁ ਨ ਲਾਇ ਕਸੁੰਭੜੈ ਜਲਿ ਜਾਸੀ ਢੋਲਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
hath na laa-ay kasumbh-rhai jal jaasee dholaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O’ my beloved, do not touch the safflower, it would fade away (Similarly do notget engrossed in the false worldly attractions which are perishable). ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ! ਕਸੁੰਭੇ-ਰੂਪ ਮਾਇਆ ਨੂੰ ਹੱਥ ਨਾ ਲਾ, ਇਹ ਕਸੁੰਭਾ ਸੜ ਜਾਇਗਾ, ਭਾਵ, ਇਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਸਾਥ ਛੇਤੀ ਨਸ਼ਟ ਹੋਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਇਕ ਆਪੀਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੈ ਪਤਲੀ ਸਹ ਕੇਰੇ ਬੋਲਾ ॥
ik aapeenHai patlee sah kayray bolaa.
The soul-brides who become spiritually weak due to their love for worldly riches and power, have to endure the harsh command of their Husband-God.
ਜੋ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ (ਮਾਇਆ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਮੋਹ ਪਾਣ ਕਰਕੇ) ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਵਿਚ ਕਮਜ਼ੋਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-) ਪਤੀ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਅਨਾਦਰੀ ਦੇ ਬੋਲ ਨਸੀਬ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਦੁਧਾ ਥਣੀ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਫਿਰਿ ਹੋਇ ਨ ਮੇਲਾ ॥੨॥
duDhaa thanee na aavee fir ho-ay na maylaa. ||2||
Once taken out, the milk cannot come back to the mammary glands, similarly the chance to unite with God does not come once the life is over. ||2||
ਇਕ ਵਾਰੀ ਦੁਹਿਆ ਦੁੱਧ ਮੁੜ ਥਣਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ, ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਇਹ ਜਨਮ ਗੰਵਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਤਾਂ ਮੁੜ ਕੇ ਹਰੀ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਣਾ ॥੨॥
ਕਹੈ ਫਰੀਦੁ ਸਹੇਲੀਹੋ ਸਹੁ ਅਲਾਏਸੀ ॥
kahai fareed sahayleeho saho alaa-aysee.
Fareed says, O my companions! when our Husband-God would issue a call for our departure from this world,
ਫ਼ਰੀਦ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ-ਹੇ ਸਹੇਲੀਓ! ਜਦੋਂ ਪਤੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸੱਦਾ (ਇਸ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਤੁਰਨ ਲਈ) ਆਵੇਗਾ,
ਹੰਸੁ ਚਲਸੀ ਡੁੰਮਣਾ ਅਹਿ ਤਨੁ ਢੇਰੀ ਥੀਸੀ ॥੩॥੨॥
hans chalsee dummnaa ah tan dhayree theesee. ||3||2||
the saddened soul departs, and the body would become a heap of dust. ||3||2||
ਆਤਮਾ ਨਿਮੌਝੂਣੀ ਹੋ ਟੁਰ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਸੁਆਹ ਹੀ ਢੇਰੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥੨॥
