ਹਰਿ ਮੰਗਲ ਰਸਿ ਰਸਨ ਰਸਾਏ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸਾ ॥੨॥
har mangal ras rasan rasaa-ay naanak naam pargaasaa. ||2||
O’ Nanak, he delightfully enjoys relish God’s praise with his tongue, and Naam enlightens him spiritually. ||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸੁਆਦ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਰਸ ਆਪਣੀ ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ) ਨਾਮ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ) ਚਾਨਣ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਰਤਨੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੇ ॥ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥
antar ratan beechaaray. gurmukh naam pi-aaray.
The Guru’s follower who loves God, deep within he contemplates the jewel-like precious Naam.
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਅਮੋਲਕ ਨਾਮ-ਰਤਨ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਚਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੇ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਅਧੇਰੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥
har naam pi-aaray sabad nistaaray agi-aan aDhayr gavaa-i-aa.
One who loves God’s Name, the Guru removes the darkness of his spiritual ignorance through his divine word and ferries him across the world ocean of vices.
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਪਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਆਪਣੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਲੋਂ ਬੇ-ਸਮਝੀ ਦਾ ਹਨੇਰਾ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
ਗਿਆਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਚੰਡੁ ਬਲਿਆ ਘਟਿ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਘਰ ਮੰਦਰ ਸੋਹਾਇਆ ॥
gi-aan parchand bali-aa ghat chaanan ghar mandar sohaa-i-aa.
The bright light of spiritual wisdom enlightens his heart and all his sensory organs become spiritually embellished.
(ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ) ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਵਾਲਾ ਤੇਜ਼ ਚਾਨਣ ਮਘ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਗਿਆਨ-ਇੰਦ੍ਰੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਅਰਪਿ ਸੀਗਾਰ ਬਣਾਏ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਾਚੇ ਭਾਇਆ ॥
tan man arap seegaar banaa-ay har parabh saachay bhaa-i-aa.
He embellishes his spiritual life by surrendering his body and mind to the eternal God and becomes pleasing to Him.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਰੀਰ, ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨ ਭੇਟ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਸੁਹਜ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਕਹੈ ਸੋਈ ਪਰੁ ਕੀਜੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਅੰਕਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
jo parabh kahai so-ee par keejai naanak ank samaa-i-aa. ||3||
O’ Nanak, whatever God says, we should whole-heartedly do exactly that, one who does that merges in God’s embrace. ||3||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੁਕਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਧਿਆਨ ਨਾਲ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ,ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਗੋਦ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਕਾਜੁ ਰਚਾਇਆ ॥
har parabh kaaj rachaa-i-aa.
God has initiated the ceremony to unite a soul- bride with Him,
ਹਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ (ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦੇ ਵਿਆਹ ਦਾ) ਕੰਮ ਰਚ ਦਿੱਤਾ,
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵੀਆਹਣਿ ਆਇਆ ॥
gurmukh vee-aahan aa-i-aa.
God arranges this blissful union through the Guru.
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਵਿਆਹੁਣ ਲਈ ਆ ਪਹੁੰਚਿਆ ।
ਵੀਆਹਣਿ ਆਇਆ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਾ ਧਨ ਕੰਤ ਪਿਆਰੀ ॥
vee-aahan aa-i-aa gurmukh har paa-i-aa saa Dhan kant pi-aaree.
The soul-bride who has attained this blissful union with the Husband-God through the Guru, becomes dear to Him.
ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜਨ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਲੱਗਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਮਿਲਿ ਮੰਗਲ ਗਾਏ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਆਪਿ ਸਵਾਰੀ ॥
sant janaa mil mangal gaa-ay har jee-o aap savaaree.
Joining the Saintly people, she sings the joyous songs of God’s praises; the reverend God Himself embellishes her life.
ਉਹ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਬਣਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸੁਰਿ ਨਰ ਗਣ ਗੰਧਰਬ ਮਿਲਿ ਆਏ ਅਪੂਰਬ ਜੰਞ ਬਣਾਈ ॥
sur nar gan ganDharab mil aa-ay apoorab janj banaa-ee.
The angels, the devotees of god Shiva, the saints and the celestial singers come together and form a wondrous wedding party.
ਦੈਵੀ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਭਗਤ-ਜਨ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਇਕ ਅਦੁਤੀ ਜੰਞ ਬਣਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਮੈ ਸਾਚਾ ਨਾ ਕਦੇ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੪॥੧॥੩॥
naanak parabh paa-i-aa mai saachaa naa kaday marai na jaa-ee. ||4||1||3||
O’ Nanak, I have realized my eternal God, who never dies nor is born. ||4||1||3||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਮੈਂ ਸੱਚਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਕਦੇ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਮਰਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ॥੪॥੧॥੩॥

One eternal God, realized by the grace of the True Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਵਹੋ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਹੁ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਕੇਰੇ ਰਾਮ ॥
aavho sant janhu gun gaavah govind kayray raam.
O\' saintly people! come, let us sing praises of God, the Master of the universe.
ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਆਓ, (ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰੀਏ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹੀਐ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਜਹਿ ਸਬਦ ਘਨੇਰੇ ਰਾਮ ॥
gurmukh mil rahee-ai ghar vaajeh sabad ghanayray raam.
We may remain united with God’s Name through the Guru’s teachings, so that the melodies of divine worlds remain vibrating in our hearts.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜੇ ਰਹਿਏ, ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੇ ਵਾਜੇ ਵੱਜ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸਬਦ ਘਨੇਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇਰੇ ਤੂ ਕਰਤਾ ਸਭ ਥਾਈ ॥
sabad ghanayray har parabh tayray too kartaa sabh thaa-ee.
O\' God, when the divine words of Your praises start affecting the human mind, then he beholds You, the creator, pervading everywhere.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਉਂ ਜਿਉਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਪਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤਿਉਂ ਤਿਉਂ ਤੂੰ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਭ ਥਾਈਂ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਜਪੀ ਸਦਾ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਸਾਚ ਸਬਦਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥
ahinis japee sadaa saalaahee saach sabad liv laa-ee.
O’ God! bless me so that I may always meditate on Your Name and sing Your praises by attuning myself to the Guru’s divine word.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੇਰੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਮੈਂ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ, ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ, ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਾਂ।
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਹਜਿ ਰਹੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦ ਪੂਜਾ ॥
an-din sahj rahai rang raataa raam naam rid poojaa.
One who enshrines God’s Name in the heart as his devotional worship, remains imbued with His love in a state of spiritual poise.
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਦੀ ਪੂਜਾ ਬਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਏਕੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਦੂਜਾ ॥੧॥
naanak gurmukh ayk pachhaanai avar na jaanai doojaa. ||1||
O’ Nanak! by following the Guru’s teachings, he recognizes only one God and does not care for any other. ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਦੂਜੇ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਂਦਾ ॥੧॥
ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਰਾਮ ॥
sabh meh rav rahi-aa so parabh antarjaamee raam.
O’ my friends, that God is omniscient and is pervading in all.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਵੈ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਰਾਮ ॥
gur sabad ravai rav rahi-aa so parabh mayraa su-aamee raam.
One who lovingly remembers God through the Guru\'s word, beholds my Master-God pervading everywhere.
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਸਭ ਥਾਈਂ) ਵਿਆਪਕ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਰਵਿਆ ਸੋਈ ॥
parabh mayraa su-aamee antarjaamee ghat ghat ravi-aa so-ee.
Yes, my Master-God is omniscient who is pervading in each and every heart
ਮੇਰਾ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹਰੇਕ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਈਐ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥
gurmat sach paa-ee-ai sahj samaa-ee-ai tis bin avar na ko-ee.
It is through the Guru\'s teachings that we realize the eternal God and remain in a state of spiritual poise; except Him there is none other.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਉਤੇ ਤੁਰਿਆਂ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਸਹਜੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਾ ਜੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਵਾ ਆਪੇ ਲਏ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥
sehjay gun gaavaa jay parabh bhaavaa aapay la-ay milaa-ay.
If I become pleasing to God, then I can sing His praises in a state of spiritual poise and then on His own He may unite me with Himself.
ਜੇ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗ ਪਵਾਂ, ਤਾਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰਾਂਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਲਵੇਗਾ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਬਦੇ ਜਾਪੈ ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਏ ॥੨॥
naanak so parabh sabday jaapai ahinis naam Dhi-aa-ay. ||2||
O’ Nanak, that God is realized through the Guru’s word; one who attunes to the Guru’s word, always lovingly remembers God. ||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪੈ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ (ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ) ਜੁੜਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਹ) ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਇਹੁ ਜਗੋ ਦੁਤਰੁ ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਪਾਰਿ ਨ ਪਾਈ ਰਾਮ ॥
ih jago dutar manmukh paar na paa-ee raam.
This world is like an impassable ocean of vices; a self-willed person cannot go across it.
ਇਹ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਇਕ ਨਾਂ-ਤਰਿਆ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਹੈ। ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਅੰਤਰੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਮਤਾ ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਰਾਮ ॥
antray ha-umai mamtaa kaam kroDh chaturaa-ee raam.
Because within such a person is ego, worldly attachment, lust, anger and cunningness.
(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਅੰਦਰ ਹੀ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ, ਅਸਲੀਅਤ ਦੀ ਲਾਲਸਾ, ਕਾਮ, ਕ੍ਰੋਧ, ਚਤੁਰਾਈ (ਆਦਿਕ ਭੈੜ) ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਥਾਇ ਨ ਪਾਈ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥
antar chaturaa-ee thaa-ay na paa-ee birthaa janam gavaa-i-aa.
Yes, within him is cunningness; he is not approved in God’s presence and he wastes his human life in vain.
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ, ਹੈ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਦਰ ਤੇ) ਪਰਵਾਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਗਵਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਮ ਮਗਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵੈ ਚੋਟਾ ਖਾਵੈ ਅੰਤਿ ਗਇਆ ਪਛੁਤਾਇਆ ॥
jam mag dukh paavai chotaa khaavai ant ga-i-aa pachhutaa-i-aa.
He treads on the path of the demon of death, endures the pain and misery and in the end departs regretting.
ਉਹ ਜਮਰਾਜ ਦੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਉਤੇ ਤੁਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਦੁੱਖ ਸਹਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਦੀਆਂ) ਚੋਟਾਂ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅੰਤ ਵੇਲੇ ਇਥੋਂ ਹੱਥ ਮਲਦਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕੋ ਬੇਲੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਪੁਤੁ ਕੁਟੰਬੁ ਸੁਤੁ ਭਾਈ ॥
bin naavai ko baylee naahee put kutamb sut bhaa-ee.
Without God’s Name there is no real friend in life, not even son, family, wife or brother.
ਜੀਵਨ-ਸਫ਼ਰ ਵਿਚ ਪੁੱਤਰ, ਪਰਵਾਰ, ਭਰਾ-ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਮਦਦਗਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਬੇਲੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣਦਾ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਪਸਾਰਾ ਆਗੈ ਸਾਥਿ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੩॥
naanak maa-i-aa moh pasaaraa aagai saath na jaa-ee. ||3||
O’ Nanak, worldly wealth, attachment and ostentatious shows - none of them go along with anyone to the world hereafter. ||3||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਇਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦਾ (ਹੀ) ਖਿਲਾਰਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ (ਭੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ) ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ ॥੩॥
ਹਉ ਪੂਛਉ ਅਪਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਕਿਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਦੁਤਰੁ ਤਰੀਐ ਰਾਮ ॥
ha-o poochha-o apnaa satgur daataa kin biDh dutar taree-ai raam.
When I asked my true Guru, the benefactor of Naam, how to cross over the impassable world-ocean of vices?
ਜਦੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਪੁੱਛਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਦੁੱਤਰ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਕਿਸ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਨਾਲ ਲੰਘਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ?
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭਾਇ ਚਲਹੁ ਜੀਵਤਿਆ ਇਵ ਮਰੀਐ ਰਾਮ ॥
satgur bhaa-ay chalhu jeevti-aa iv maree-ai raam.
Live your life in accordance with the will of the true Guru; remain detached from the love of worldly attractions while yet alive.
(ਉੱਤਰ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਜੀਵਨ-ਤੋਰ ਤੁਰਦੇ ਰਹੋ, ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਤ-ਕਾਰ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਬਚੇ ਰਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜੀਵਤਿਆ ਮਰੀਐ ਭਉਜਲੁ ਤਰੀਐ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥
jeevti-aa maree-ai bha-ojal taree-ai gurmukh naam samaavai.
The world-ocean of vices is crossed over by remaining detached from the worldly desires while yet alive and then one merges in Naam through the Guru’s grace.
ਜੀਉਂਦੇ ਜੀ ਮਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਦੁਆਰਾ, ਬੰਦਾ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਨਾਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
