ਆਪਿ ਸਾਜੇ ਥਾਪਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਤਿਸੈ ਭਾਣਾ ਭਾਇਆ ॥
aap saajay thaap vaykhai tisai bhaanaa bhaa-i-aa.
To them, God’s will seems sweet, and they realize that He Himself creates, establishes and takes care of His creation.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਸੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਮਿੱਠੀ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਆਪ (ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ) ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਾਜਨ ਰਾਂਗਿ ਰੰਗੀਲੜੇ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਾਲੁ ਬਣਾਇਆ ॥੫॥
saajan raaNg rangeelrhay rang laal banaa-i-aa. ||5||
They who are imbued with the love of dear God, have intense love for God. ||5||
ਸੱਜਣ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦਾ ਲਾਲ ਰੰਗ ਬਣਾ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
ਅੰਧਾ ਆਗੂ ਜੇ ਥੀਐ ਕਿਉ ਪਾਧਰੁ ਜਾਣੈ ॥
anDhaa aagoo jay thee-ai ki-o paaDhar jaanai.
If someone’s spiritual guide himself is spiritually ignorant and is blinded by worldly riches, then how can he know the righteous way to live?
ਜੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਆਗੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜੀਵਨ-ਸਫ਼ਰਦੇ ਠੀਕ ਰਸਤੇ ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਪਛਾਣੇਗਾ?
ਆਪਿ ਮੁਸੈ ਮਤਿ ਹੋਛੀਐ ਕਿਉ ਰਾਹੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ॥
aap musai mat hochhee-ai ki-o raahu pachhaanai.
If the leader himself is being plundered by the evil passions because of impaired intellect, then how can his follower know the righteous way of life?
ਜੇ ਆਗੂ ਅਪ ਹੀ ਹੋਛੀ ਅਕਲ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਹੱਥੋਂ ਲੁਟਿਆ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਅਗਵਾਈ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲਾਕਿਵੇਂ ਰਾਹ ਲੱਭ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ?
ਕਿਉ ਰਾਹਿ ਜਾਵੈ ਮਹਲੁ ਪਾਵੈ ਅੰਧ ਕੀ ਮਤਿ ਅੰਧਲੀ ॥
ki-o raahi jaavai mahal paavai anDh kee mat anDhlee.
Yes, how can he follow the righteous path and realize God? Because the intellect of a spiritually ignorant person is always misleading.
ਉਹ ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਠੀਕ ਰਸਤੇ ਟੁਰ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਦਰ ਲੱਭ ਸਕਦਾਹੈ?ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਮਾਇਆ-ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਹੋਏ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਆਪਣੀਅਕਲ ਹੀ ਗੁਮਰਾਹ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ l
ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਮ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਕਛੁ ਨ ਸੂਝੈ ਅੰਧੁ ਬੂਡੌ ਧੰਧਲੀ ॥
vin naam har kay kachh na soojhai anDh boodou DhanDhlee.
Without remembering God’s Name, he does not understand anything about righteous living; spiritually ignorant person remains drowned in worldly strife.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਵਾਂਜੇ ਹੋਣ ਕਰਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਬਾਰੇ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੁੱਝਦਾ, ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਧੰਦਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਡੁੱਬਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤਿ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਚਾਉ ਉਪਜੈ ਸਬਦੁ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ॥
din raat chaanan chaa-o upjai sabad gur kaa man vasai.
One in whose heart is enshrined the Guru’s word, his mind is always illuminated with Naam; a keen desire to lovingly remember God wells up within him.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਚਾਨਣ ਹੋਇਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਉਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਰ ਜੋੜਿ ਗੁਰ ਪਹਿ ਕਰਿ ਬਿਨੰਤੀ ਰਾਹੁ ਪਾਧਰੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਦਸੈ ॥੬॥
kar jorh gur peh kar binantee raahu paaDhar gur dasai. ||6||
With folded hands, he keeps offering prayer before the Guru who shows him the righteous path of life. ||6||
ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਹੱਥ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਪਾਸ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਸਿੱਧਾ ਰਸਤਾ ਦੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੬॥
ਮਨੁ ਪਰਦੇਸੀ ਜੇ ਥੀਐ ਸਭੁ ਦੇਸੁ ਪਰਾਇਆ ॥
man pardaysee jay thee-ai sabh days paraa-i-aa.
If one’s mind becomes alienated from God, then the entire world seems stranger to him.
ਜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਵਿਛੁੜਿਆ ਰਹੇ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਬਿਗਾਨਾ ਜਾਪਦਾ ਹੈ ।
ਕਿਸੁ ਪਹਿ ਖੋਲ੍ਹ੍ਹਉ ਗੰਠੜੀ ਦੂਖੀ ਭਰਿ ਆਇਆ ॥
kis peh kholHa-o ganth-rhee dookhee bhar aa-i-aa.
Before whom may I narrate my sufferings when everybody else is also overflowing with grief?
ਮੈਂ ਕੀਹਦੇ ਅਗੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਪੰਡ ਖੋਲ੍ਹਾਂ ਜਦ ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਦੁਖੜਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਪਰੀਪੂਰਨ ਹਨ।
ਦੂਖੀ ਭਰਿ ਆਇਆ ਜਗਤੁ ਸਬਾਇਆ ਕਉਣੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਬਿਧਿ ਮੇਰੀਆ ॥
dookhee bhar aa-i-aa jagat sabaa-i-aa ka-un jaanai biDh mayree-aa.
Yes, the entire world is overflowing with suffering, so who can understand the state of my inner self?
ਸਾਰਾ ਹੀ ਜਗਤਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈਮੇਰੀ ਅੰਦਰਲੀ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਨੂੰ ਕੌਣ ਜਾਣ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ?
ਆਵਣੇ ਜਾਵਣੇ ਖਰੇ ਡਰਾਵਣੇ ਤੋਟਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਫੇਰੀਆ ॥
aavnay jaavnay kharay daraavanay tot na aavai fayree-aa.
The cycle of birth and death are very dreadful, there is no end to these rounds ofreincarnations.
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਬਹੁਤ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਹਨ, ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੀਆਂ ਜਗਤ-ਫੇਰੀਆਂ ਮੁੱਕਦੀਆਂ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਨਾਮ ਵਿਹੂਣੇ ਊਣੇ ਝੂਣੇ ਨਾ ਗੁਰਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਣਾਇਆ ॥
naam vihoonay oonay jhoonay naa gur sabad sunaa-i-aa.
Those whom the Guru has not recited the divine word of God’s praises, remained empty and sad without remembering God.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੁਣਾਇਆ, ਜੋ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਸੱਖਣੇ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਦੁੱਖੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਹੀ ਬਿਤਾਂਦੇ ਗਏ।
ਮਨੁ ਪਰਦੇਸੀ ਜੇ ਥੀਐ ਸਭੁ ਦੇਸੁ ਪਰਾਇਆ ॥੭॥

ਗੁਰ ਮਹਲੀ ਘਰਿ ਆਪਣੈ ਸੋ ਭਰਪੁਰਿ ਲੀਣਾ ॥
gur mahlee ghar aapnai so bharpur leenaa.
One in whose heart God becomes manifest, he remains absorbed in the all pervading God’s remembrance;
ਉੱਚੇ ਟਿਕਾਣੇ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਸ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸੇਵਕੁ ਸੇਵਾ ਤਾਂ ਕਰੇ ਸਚ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਤੀਣਾ ॥
sayvak sayvaa taaN karay sach sabad pateenaa.
his mind becomes appeased with the divine word of God’s praises, he becomes God’s devotee and remembers Him with loving devotion.
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚਪਤੀਜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂਦਾ ਸੇਵਕ ਬਣ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
ਸਬਦੇ ਪਤੀਜੈ ਅੰਕੁ ਭੀਜੈ ਸੁ ਮਹਲੁ ਮਹਲਾ ਅੰਤਰੇ ॥
sabday pateejai ank bheejai so mahal mehlaa antray.
Yes, when he is satiated with the Guru’s word, his heart remains imbued with the nectar of Naam and he experiences God dwelling in each and everyone;
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਗਿੱਝ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਹਿਰਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਨਾਲ ਭਿੱਜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਆਪਿ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰੇ ਸੋਈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਨਿਰੰਤਰੇ ॥
aap kartaa karay so-ee parabh aap ant nirantray.
he remains confident that the Creator-God Himself is doing everything and is always present within all till the end.
(ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਯਕੀਨ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਇਕ-ਰਸ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਮੇਲਾ ਤਾਂ ਸੁਹੇਲਾ ਬਾਜੰਤ ਅਨਹਦ ਬੀਣਾ ॥
gur sabad maylaa taaN suhaylaa baajant anhad beenaa.
When he realizes God through the Guru’s word, his life becomes so beauteous, as if a celestial flute is always playing within him.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਦੋਂ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਸੌਖਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ, ਮਾਨੋ,) ਇਕ-ਰਸ ਬੰਸਰੀ ਵੱਜਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।

ਉੱਚੇ ਟਿਕਾਣੇ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਗਟ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਸ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਦੀ ਯਾਦ) ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੮॥
ਕੀਤਾ ਕਿਆ ਸਾਲਾਹੀਐ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਸੋਈ ॥
keetaa ki-aa salaahee-ai kar vaykhai so-ee.
What is the use of praising the creation? Instead we should praise God who creates the creation and watches over it.
ਕ੍ਰਿਤ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਾਂ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਕੀਹ ਲਾਭ? ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਜਗਤ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਭੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਤਾ ਕੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਨਾ ਪਵੈ ਜੇ ਲੋਚੈ ਕੋਈ ॥
taa kee keemat naa pavai jay lochai ko-ee.
God’s worth cannot be estimated, no matter how much one may wish.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਸਕਦਾਜਿੰਨੀ ਮਰਜ਼ੀ ਭੀ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਖਾਹਿਸ਼ ਪਿਆ ਕਰੇ ।
ਕੀਮਤਿ ਸੋ ਪਾਵੈ ਆਪਿ ਜਾਣਾਵੈ ਆਪਿ ਅਭੁਲੁ ਨ ਭੁਲਏ ॥
keemat so paavai aap jaanaavai aap abhul na bhul-ay.
Only that person knows the worth of God, to whom He Himself reveals it; God Himself is infallible and He does not make mistakes.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਸੂਝ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਕਦਰ ਸਮਝ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਦੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਅਭੁੱਲ ਹੈ ਕਦੇ ਭੁੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ।
ਜੈ ਜੈ ਕਾਰੁ ਕਰਹਿ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵਹਿ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਅਮੁਲਏ ॥
jai jai kaar karahi tuDh bhaaveh gur kai sabad amula-ay.
O’ God! those who sing Your praises through the invaluable word of the Guru are pleasing to You.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਅਮੋਲਕ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਹੀਣਉ ਨੀਚੁ ਕਰਉ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਸਾਚੁ ਨ ਛੋਡਉ ਭਾਈ ॥
heena-o neech kara-o baynantee saach na chhoda-o bhaa-ee.
O’ friend, I am weak and lowly person and am making this submission to God that I would never forsake Him.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੈਂ ਤੁੱਛ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਂ ਨੀਵਾਂ ਹਾਂ, ਪਰ ਮੈਂ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਦਰ ਤੇ ਹੀ) ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਵੀਨਹੀਂ ਛੱਡਾਗਾ ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਨਿ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਦੇਵੈ ਮਤਿ ਸਾਈ ॥੯॥੨॥੫॥
naanak jin kar daykhi-aa dayvai mat saa-ee. ||9||2||5||
O’ Nanak, God who after creating takes care of the creation, He alone bestows the spiritual wisdom. ||9||2||5||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ!ਜੇਹੜਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ (ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ)ਅਕਲ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੯॥੨॥੫॥

One eternal God, realized by the grace of the True Guru.
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸੁਖ ਸੋਹਿਲੜਾ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਵਹੁ ॥
sukh sohilrhaa har Dhi-aavahu.
O’ my friends, always lovingly remember and sing the bliss giving song of God’s praises.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ ਜਨੋ! ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਇਆ ਕਰੋ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਵਹੁ ॥
gurmukh har fal paavhu.
By singing the songs of God’s praises through the Guru’s teachings, you would receive its reward from God
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ (ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਇਆਂ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੋਂ (ਇਸ ਦਾ) ਫਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰੋਗੇ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਵਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵਹੁ ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਦੂਖ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ॥
gurmukh fal paavhu har naam Dhi-aavahu janam janam kay dookh nivaaray.
O’ brothers, lovingly remember God through the Guru’s teachings, you would be rewarded and your sufferings of countless lifetimes would be eradicated.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਕਰੋ, (ਇਸ ਦਾ) ਫਲ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰੋਗੇ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਗੁਰ ਅਪਣੇ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਕਾਰਜ ਸਭਿ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥
balihaaree gur apnay vitahu jin kaaraj sabh savaaray.
Dedicate yourselves to the Guru who has accomplished all your tasks.
ਜਿਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ (ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਦੇ) ਸਾਰੇ ਕੰਮ ਸਵਾਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ, ਉਸ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਵੋ।
ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਪਹੁ ਸੁਖ ਫਲ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਪਾਵਹੁ ॥
har parabh kirpaa karay har jaapahu sukh fal har jan paavhu.
O’ devotees of God, always remember God with adoration, He would bestow mercy and as a reward, you would receive spiritual peace.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆ ਕਰੋ। ਹਰੀ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੇਗਾ, (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਦਾ ਫਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਵੋਗੇ।
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਕਹੈ ਸੁਣਹੁ ਜਨ ਭਾਈ ਸੁਖ ਸੋਹਿਲੜਾ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਵਹੁ ॥੧॥
naanak kahai sunhu jan bhaa-ee sukh sohilrhaa har Dhi-aavahu. ||1||
Nanak says, listen O’ devotees of God, my brothers! lovingly remember God and sing the bliss-giving songs of His praises. ||1||
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ-ਹੇ ਭਾਈ ਜਨੋ! ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਰਿਹਾ ਕਰੋ ॥੧॥
ਸੁਣਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਭੀਨੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਏ ॥
sun har gun bheenay sahj subhaa-ay.
O’ my friends, one intuitively gets imbued with God’s love by listening to the praises of God,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਸੁਭਾਵਿਕ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਚ ਭਿੱਜ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਹਜੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਏ ॥
gurmat sehjay naam Dhi-aa-ay.
O’ brother, lovingly remember God by following the Guru’s teachings and attain the state of spiritual equipoise.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਤੂੰ ਭੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਉਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ।
ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਭਉ ਭਾਗਾ ॥
jin ka-o Dhur likhi-aa tin gur mili-aa tin janam maran bha-o bhaagaa.
Those who are preordained, meet the Guru and their fear of birth and death goes away.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਧੁਰ ਦਰਗਾਹਲੇਖ ਹੈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨਦਾ ਡਰ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
