ਸਾਝ ਕਰੀਜੈ ਗੁਣਹ ਕੇਰੀ ਛੋਡਿ ਅਵਗਣ ਚਲੀਐ ॥
saajh kareejai gunah kayree chhod avgan chalee-ai.
We should share the virtues with others, and shedding our vices, we should conduct our lives righteously.
(ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ) ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ (ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਔਗੁਣ ਤਿਆਗ ਕੇ ਜੀਵਨ-ਰਾਹ ਤੇ ਤੁਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਪਹਿਰੇ ਪਟੰਬਰ ਕਰਿ ਅਡੰਬਰ ਆਪਣਾ ਪਿੜੁ ਮਲੀਐ ॥
pahiray patambar kar adambar aapnaa pirh malee-ai.
We should win against the vices with our virtues and good deeds, just like winning people’s heart by simple living and adopting good manners.
ਸਭ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਾਲਾ ਵਰਤਾਵ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਤੇ ਭਲਾਈ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਉੱਦਮ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਟਾਕਰੇ ਤੇ ਜੀਵਨ-ਘੋਲ ਜਿੱਤਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਥੈ ਜਾਇ ਬਹੀਐ ਭਲਾ ਕਹੀਐ ਝੋਲਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਜੈ ॥
jithai jaa-ay bahee-ai bhalaa kahee-ai jhol amrit peejai.
Wherever we sit with others, we should talk about the welfare of all; staying clear of the worldly evils, we should partake the ambrosial nectar of Naam.
ਜਿੱਥੇ ਭੀ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਬੈਠੀਏ ਭਲਾਈ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਹੀ ਕਰੀਏ ਤੇ ਮੰਦੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਵਲੋਂ ਹਟ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ ਪਾਨ ਕਰੀਏ।
ਗੁਣਾ ਕਾ ਹੋਵੈ ਵਾਸੁਲਾ ਕਢਿ ਵਾਸੁ ਲਈਜੈ ॥੩॥
gunaa kaa hovai vaasulaa kadh vaas la-eejai. ||3||
If someone has a basket of fragrances, he should enjoythese fragrances (ofvirtues). ||3||
ਜੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਕੋਲ ਸੁਗੰਧਤ ਨੇਕੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਡੱਬਾ ਹੋਵੇ ਤਾਂਡੱਬਾ ਖੋਹਲ ਕੇ (ਡੱਬੇ ਵਿਚਲੀ) ਸੁਗੰਧੀ ਲੈਣੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਆਪਿ ਕਰੇ ਕਿਸੁ ਆਖੀਐ ਹੋਰੁ ਕਰੇ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥
aap karay kis aakhee-ai hor karay na ko-ee.
God is doing everything on His own, no one else does anything, so to whom can we go and complain?
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ,ਅਸੀਂ ਕੀਹਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਫਰਿਆਦੀ ਹੋਈਏ?
ਆਖਣ ਤਾ ਕਉ ਜਾਈਐ ਜੇ ਭੂਲੜਾ ਹੋਈ ॥
aakhan taa ka-o jaa-ee-ai jay bhoolrhaa ho-ee.
We can complain to Him only if He is prone to make mistakes.
ਜੇ ਉਹ ਖੁੰਝਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੋਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਕੁਝ ਆਖੀਏ ਭੀ,
ਜੇ ਹੋਇ ਭੂਲਾ ਜਾਇ ਕਹੀਐ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਿਉ ਭੁਲੈ ॥
jay ho-ay bhoolaa jaa-ay kahee-ai aap kartaa ki-o bhulai.
If He is mistaken, we can go and tell Him, but the Creator Himself never makes a mistake?
ਜੇ ਉਹ ਖੁੰਝਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੋਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਕੁਝ ਆਖੀਏ ਭੀ, ਪਰ ਆਪ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਕੋਈ ਭੁੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਸੁਣੇ ਦੇਖੇ ਬਾਝੁ ਕਹਿਐ ਦਾਨੁ ਅਣਮੰਗਿਆ ਦਿਵੈ ॥
sunay daykhay baajh kahi-ai daan anmangi-aa divai.
God listens and sees everything; He bestows bounties without being asked.
ਉਹ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਅਰਦਾਸਾਂ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕੰਮ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮੰਗਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਨੂੰ ਦਾਨ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਦਾਨੁ ਦੇਇ ਦਾਤਾ ਜਗਿ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਈ ॥
daan day-ay daataa jag biDhaataa naankaa sach so-ee.
O’ Nanak, that eternal God, the creator of the universe is the benefactor of all.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।ਉਹ ਦਾਤਾਰ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਦਾਨ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਪਿ ਕਰੇ ਕਿਸੁ ਆਖੀਐ ਹੋਰੁ ਕਰੇ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥੪॥੧॥੪॥
aap karay kis aakhee-ai hor karay na ko-ee. ||4||1||4||

ਉਹ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ। ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਦੇ ਪਾਸ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਕੋਈ ਗਿਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੪॥੧॥੪॥

Raag Soohee, First Guru:
ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਤਾ ਗੁਣ ਰਵੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋਈ ॥
mayraa man raataa gun ravai man bhaavai so-ee.
Imbued with the love of God, my mind reflects on His virtues and He is pleasing to my mind.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਚੇਤੇ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਪਉੜੀ ਸਾਚ ਕੀ ਸਾਚਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥
gur kee pa-orhee saach kee saachaa sukh ho-ee.
Reflecting on God’s virtues is like a ladder provided by the Guru to reach God; everlasting spiritual peace wells up by climbing it.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਣੇ, ਮਾਨੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ,ਤਕ ਪੁੱਜਣ ਲਈ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੋਈ, ਸੱਚ ਦੀ ਸੀੜ੍ਹੀ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਸੱਚਾ ਸੁਖ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸੁਖਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਆਵੈ ਸਾਚ ਭਾਵੈ ਸਾਚ ਕੀ ਮਤਿ ਕਿਉ ਟਲੈ ॥
sukh sahj aavai saach bhaavai saach kee mat ki-o talai.
When one attains this state of spiritual peace and poise, he seems pleasing to God; therefore how can such divine teaching be ignored?
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਇਸ ਪੌੜੀ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਪਹੁੰਚਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਅਟੱਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਇਸਨਾਨੁ ਦਾਨੁ ਸੁਗਿਆਨੁ ਮਜਨੁ ਆਪਿ ਅਛਲਿਓ ਕਿਉ ਛਲੈ ॥
isnaan daan sugi-aan majan aap achhli-o ki-o chhalai.
God Himself is undeceivable; how can He ever be deceived by cleansing baths, charity, superficial knowledge or bathing at holy places?
ਕੋਈ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ, ਕੋਈ ਦਾਨ, ਕੋਈ ਚੁੰਚ-ਗਿਆਨਤਾ, ਤੇ ਕੋਈ ਤੀਰਥ-ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨਉਸ ਆਪ ਅਛਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਛਲ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ l
ਪਰਪੰਚ ਮੋਹ ਬਿਕਾਰ ਥਾਕੇ ਕੂੜੁ ਕਪਟੁ ਨ ਦੋਈ ॥
parpanch moh bikaar thaakay koorh kapat na do-ee.
Fraud, worldly attachment and sins are removed; no falsehood, deceit or duality is left in my life.
ਮੇਰਾ ਵਲ ਛਲ, ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਲਗਨ ਅਤੇ ਪਾਪ ਮਿਟ ਗਏ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਖਤਮ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਝੂਠ ਪਖੰਡ ਅਤੇ ਦਵੈਤ-ਭਾਵ।.
ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਤਾ ਗੁਣ ਰਵੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋਈ ॥੧॥

ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਚੇਤੇ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸੋ ਸਾਲਾਹੀਐ ਜਿਨਿ ਕਾਰਣੁ ਕੀਆ ॥
saahib so salaahee-ai jin kaaran kee-aa.
We should praise only that Master-God, who has created the world.
ਉਸ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਜਗਤ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਮੈਲੁ ਲਾਗੀ ਮਨਿ ਮੈਲਿਐ ਕਿਨੈ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਆ ॥
mail laagee man maili-ai kinai amrit pee-aa.
Filth of vices is sticking to the polluted mind; only a rare one partakes the ambrosial nectar of Naam.
ਭ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੈਲਚਿਮੜ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ। ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਹੀ ਨਾਮ-ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਥਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਆ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਦੀਆ ਗੁਰ ਪਹਿ ਮੋਲੁ ਕਰਾਇਆ ॥
math amrit pee-aa ih man dee-aa gur peh mol karaa-i-aa.
One who surrendered his mind to the Guru and learned from him the value of bliss; he drank the ambrosial nectar of Naam by reflecting on the divine word.
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਹਵਾਲੇ ਕੀਤਾ ਉਸ ਨੇਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਲ ਪੁਆਇਆ ਤੇ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਜਾਪ ਕਰਕੇਨਾਮ-ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਪੀ ਲਿਆ।
ਆਪਨੜਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਹਜਿ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਜਾ ਮਨੁ ਸਾਚੈ ਲਾਇਆ ॥
aapnarhaa parabh sahj pachhaataa jaa man saachai laa-i-aa.
One intuitively realized his beloved God, when he attuned his mind to Him.
ਜਦੋਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਸਹਜੇ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ ਲਈ।
ਤਿਸੁ ਨਾਲਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਾ ਜੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵਾ ਕਿਉ ਮਿਲੈ ਹੋਇ ਪਰਾਇਆ ॥
tis naal gun gaavaa jay tis bhaavaa ki-o milai ho-ay paraa-i-aa.
I can sing God’s praises along with the one attuned to God, only if I am pleasing to Him; how can anyone unite with God by remaining stranger to Him?
ਉਸ ਨਾਲ (ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਨ ਲਾਇਆ ਹੈ) ਬੈਠ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਜੇ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਮੈਂ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗ ਪਵਾਂ; ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਓਪਰੇ ਓਪਰੇ ਰਿਹਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ?
ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸੋ ਸਾਲਾਹੀਐ ਜਿਨਿ ਜਗਤੁ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
saahib so salaahee-ai jin jagat upaa-i-aa. ||2||
We should praise only that Master-God who has created the world. ||2||
ਉਸ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ (ਸਦਾ) ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ (ਇਹ) ਜਗਤ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਆਇ ਗਇਆ ਕੀ ਨ ਆਇਓ ਕਿਉ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਤਾ ॥
aa-ay ga-i-aa kee na aa-i-o ki-o aavai jaataa.
One who realizes God dwelling in his heart, no worldly desires are left in his mind and his cycle of birth and death ends.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆ ਵੱਸੇ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਦੀ ਲਾਲਸਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੀ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸਿਉ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਰਾਤਾ ॥
pareetam si-o man maani-aa har saytee raataa.
His mind becomes appeased with beloved God and becomes imbued with His love.
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਗਿੱਝ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਾਹਿਬ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਸਚ ਕੀ ਬਾਤਾ ਜਿਨਿ ਬਿੰਬ ਕਾ ਕੋਟੁ ਉਸਾਰਿਆ ॥
saahib rang raataa sach kee baataa jin bimb kaa kot usaari-aa.
Yes, imbued with the love of God, he always sings the praises of that God, who has raised the fortress-like human body from a drop of water,
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗਿਆ, ਉਹ ਉਸ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਬੂੰਦ ਤੋਂ ਸਰੀਰ-ਕਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਉਸਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ,
ਪੰਚ ਭੂ ਨਾਇਕੋ ਆਪਿ ਸਿਰੰਦਾ ਜਿਨਿ ਸਚ ਕਾ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਸਵਾਰਿਆ ॥
panch bhoo naa-iko aap sirandaa jin sach kaa pind savaari-aa.
who is the Master of the five elements, who Himself is the creator and has fashioned the human body for Himself to dwell in.
ਜੋ ਪੰਜਾਂ ਤੱਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਰੀਰਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਲਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਸਜਾਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਹਮ ਅਵਗਣਿਆਰੇ ਤੂ ਸੁਣਿ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਈ ॥
ham avgani-aaray too sun pi-aaray tuDh bhaavai sach so-ee.
O’ my dear God, please listen, we are full of vices; but the one who becomes pleasing to You becomes Your embodiment.
ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਸੁਣ, ਅਸੀਂ ਜੀਵ ਔਗੁਣਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਭਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਾਂ; ਜੇਹੜਾ ਜੀਵਤੈਨੂੰ ਪਸੰਦ ਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਰੂਪ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣਾ ਨਾ ਥੀਐ ਸਾਚੀ ਮਤਿ ਹੋਈ ॥੩॥
aavan jaanaa naa thee-ai saachee mat ho-ee. ||3||
His intellect becomes unfalliable and his cycle of birth and death ends. ||3||
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਅਭੁੱਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਅੰਜਨੁ ਤੈਸਾ ਅੰਜੀਐ ਜੈਸਾ ਪਿਰ ਭਾਵੈ ॥
anjan taisaa anjee-ai jaisaa pir bhaavai.
Just as wife dresses up in a way which is pleasing to her husband, similarly a soul-bride should perform the deeds which are pleasing to Husband-God.
ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਉਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਸੁਰਮਾ ਪਾਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗੇ (ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੂੰਉਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਉੱਦਮ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਪਸੰਦ ਆਵੇ)।
ਸਮਝੈ ਸੂਝੈ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਜੇ ਆਪਿ ਜਾਣਾਵੈ ॥
samjhai soojhai jaanee-ai jay aap jaanaavai.
This kind of understanding and intellect comes only when God Himself blesses it.
ਜਦੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਸਮਝ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੇ, ਤਾਂ ਹੀ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਸੂਝ ਆ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਆਪਿ ਜਾਣਾਵੈ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਪਾਵੈ ਆਪੇ ਮਨੂਆ ਲੇਵਏ ॥
aap jaanaavai maarag paavai aapay manoo-aa layv-ay.
He Himself gives the knowledge, leads a being to the right path, and He attunes his mind to Himself.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਮਝ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਹੀ ਰਸਤੇ ਉਤੇ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਲ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਰਮ ਸੁਕਰਮ ਕਰਾਏ ਆਪੇ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਉਣ ਅਭੇਵਏ ॥
karam sukaram karaa-ay aapay keemat ka-un abhayva-ay.
He Himself makes one to perform ordinary or sublime deeds; who can find the worth of that incomprehensible God?
ਸਾਧਾਰਨ ਕੰਮ ਤੇ ਚੰਗੇ ਕੰਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜੀਵ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਕਰਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ;ਉਸ ਅਭੇਵ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਕੀਮਤਕੌਣ ਜਾਣ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ?
ਤੰਤੁ ਮੰਤੁ ਪਾਖੰਡੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਾ ਰਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ॥
tant mant pakhand na jaanaa raam ridai man maani-aa.
I know nothing about witchcraft, mantras and hypocritical rituals; my mind is satisfied by enshrining God within my heart.
ਮੈਂ ਕੋਈ ਜਾਦੂ-ਟੂਣਾ ਕੋਈ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਆਦਿਕ ਪਖੰਡ ਕਰਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦੀ। ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਕੇਵਲ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਇਆ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਿਚ ਗਿੱਝ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਅੰਜਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਤਿਸੈ ਤੇ ਸੂਝੈ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਸਚੁ ਜਾਨਿਆ ॥੪॥
anjan naam tisai tay soojhai gur sabdee sach jaani-aa. ||4||
The worth of Naam is understood only from that one who has realized God through the Guru’s word. ||4||
ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਸੁਰਮੇ ਦਾ ਕੇਵਲ ਉਸ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਹੀ ਪਤਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਸੱਚੇ ਸਾਈਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਸਾਜਨ ਹੋਵਨਿ ਆਪਣੇ ਕਿਉ ਪਰ ਘਰ ਜਾਹੀ ॥
saajan hovan aapnay ki-o par ghar jaahee.
Those who have God as their dear friend, why would they go to any other person (false Guru) for support ?
ਸੱਜਣ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂਦੇਆਪਣੇ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਬੰਦੇ ਪਰਾਏ ਘਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਕਿਉਂ ਜਾਵਣ ?
ਸਾਜਨ ਰਾਤੇ ਸਚ ਕੇ ਸੰਗੇ ਮਨ ਮਾਹੀ ॥
saajan raatay sach kay sangay man maahee.
They always remain imbued with the love of that eternal God who always dwells with them in their heart.
ਉਹ ਅੰਤਰ ਆਤਮੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਸੱਜਣ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਰੱਤੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਜੋ ਸਦਾ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ
ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਾਜਨ ਕਰਹਿ ਰਲੀਆ ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਸਬਾਇਆ ॥
man maahi saajan karahi ralee-aa karam Dharam sabaa-i-aa.
In their own mind, they revel in joy with God; for them these are all their deeds of righteousness.
ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸੱਜਣ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਹੀ ਮਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ, ਇਹੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਕੰਮ ਹਨ
ਅਠਸਠਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਪੁੰਨ ਪੂਜਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਭਾਇਆ ॥
athsath tirath punn poojaa naam saachaa bhaa-i-aa.
The Name of the eternal God is pleasing to them; for them this is like all the holy places of pilgrimage, charity and idol worship.
।ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ-ਇਹੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਅਠਾਹਠ ਤੀਰਥਾਂ ਦਾ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਹੈ, ਇਹੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਪੁੰਨ-ਦਾਨ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਇਹੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਦੇਵ-ਪੂਜਾ ਹੈ।
