Raag Soohee, First Guru, Sixth Beat:
ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik-oNkaar satgur parsaad.
One eternal God, realized by the grace of the True Guru.
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਉਜਲੁ ਕੈਹਾ ਚਿਲਕਣਾ ਘੋਟਿਮ ਕਾਲੜੀ ਮਸੁ ॥
ujal kaihaa chilkanaa ghotim kaalrhee mas.
When I scrub a bright and shiny bronze pot, its blackness from within shows up.
ਮੈਂ ਕੈਂਹ ਦਾ ਸਾਫ਼ ਤੇ ਲਿਸ਼ਕਵਾਂ ਭਾਂਡਾ ਘਸਾਇਆ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਮਾੜੀ ਮਾੜੀ ਕਾਲੀ ਸਿਆਹੀ ਲੱਗ ਗਈ।
ਧੋਤਿਆ ਜੂਠਿ ਨ ਉਤਰੈ ਜੇ ਸਉ ਧੋਵਾ ਤਿਸੁ ॥੧॥
Dhoti-aa jooth na utrai jay sa-o Dhovaa tis. ||1||
Washing does not get rid of its blackness (impurity) even if it is washed a hundred times; similarly impurities of the mind don’t vanish by ritualistic deeds.||1||
ਜੇ ਮੈਂ ਸੌ ਵਾਰੀ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਕੈਂਹ ਦੇ ਭਾਂਡੇ ਨੂੰ ਧੋਵਾਂ ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਬਾਹਰੋਂ ਧੋਣ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਅੰਦਰਲੀ ਜੂਠ (ਕਾਲਖ) ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ ॥੧॥
ਸਜਣ ਸੇਈ ਨਾਲਿ ਮੈ ਚਲਦਿਆ ਨਾਲਿ ਚਲੰਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ॥
sajan say-ee naal mai chaldi-aa naal chalaNniH.
My true friends (virtues) are those who accompany me in my spiritual journey;
ਮੇਰੇ ਅਸਲ ਮਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਉਹੀ ਹਨ ਜੋ (ਸਦਾ) ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਰਹਿਣ, ਤੇ (ਇਥੋਂ) ਤੁਰਨ ਵੇਲੇ ਭੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਚੱਲਣ,
ਜਿਥੈ ਲੇਖਾ ਮੰਗੀਐ ਤਿਥੈ ਖੜੇ ਦਿਸੰਨਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jithai laykhaa mangee-ai tithai kharhay disann. ||1|| rahaa-o.
and where I am asked to render account of my deeds, they (virtues) will be standing by my side.
ਜਿਥੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਹਿਸਾਬ ਮੰਗਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਥੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਖਲੋਤੇ ਦਿਸਨ (ਅਝੱਕ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਹਿਸਾਬ ਦੇ ਸਕਣ) ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ
ਕੋਠੇ ਮੰਡਪ ਮਾੜੀਆ ਪਾਸਹੁ ਚਿਤਵੀਆਹਾ ॥
kothay mandap maarhee-aa paashu chitvee-aahaa.
The houses, mansions, and skyscrapers which are beautifully painted or carved from outside;
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਘਰ ਮੰਦਰ ਮਹਲ ਚੌਹਾਂ ਪਾਸਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਤਾਂ ਚਿੱਤਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਹੋਣ
ਢਠੀਆ ਕੰਮਿ ਨ ਆਵਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਸਖਣੀਆਹਾ ॥੨॥
dhathee-aa kamm na aavnHee vichahu sakh-nee-aahaa. ||2||
but if these remain vacant, they crumble and become useless ruins. (good looking but spiritually empty people have the same fate). ||2||
ਪਰ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਖ਼ਾਲੀ ਹੋਣ, (ਉਹ ਢਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ) ਢੱਠੇ ਹੋਏ ਕਿਸੇ ਕੰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੇ ॥੨॥
ਬਗਾ ਬਗੇ ਕਪੜੇ ਤੀਰਥ ਮੰਝਿ ਵਸੰਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ॥
bagaa bagay kaprhay tirath manjh vasaNniH.
The hypocritical people who wear holy garbs and dwell in places of pilgrimage, are like the white feathered herons on the banks of rivers.
ਬਗਲਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਚਿੱਟੇ ਖੰਭ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਵੱਸਦੇ ਭੀ ਉਹ ਤੀਰਥਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਹੀ ਹਨ।
ਘੁਟਿ ਘੁਟਿ ਜੀਆ ਖਾਵਣੇ ਬਗੇ ਨਾ ਕਹੀਅਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ॥੩॥
ghut ghut jee-aa khaavnay bagay naa kahee-aniH. ||3||
Like herons swallow the fish, these hypocritical people throttle innocent living beings to death; therefore, they cannot be called pure or virtuous. ||3||
ਪਰ ਜੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ (ਗਲੋਂ) ਘੁੱਟ ਘੁੱਟ ਕੇ ਖਾ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ (ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਸਾਫ਼ ਸੁਥਰੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਖੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ॥੩॥
ਸਿੰਮਲ ਰੁਖੁ ਸਰੀਰੁ ਮੈ ਮੈਜਨ ਦੇਖਿ ਭੁਲੰਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ॥
simmal rukh sareer mai maijan daykh bhulaNniH.
My body is like a simmal tree; seeing the fruits of the simmal tree, the parrots are misled,
(ਜਿਵੇਂ) ਸਿੰਬਲ ਦਾ ਰੁੱਖ (ਹੈ ਤਿਵੇਂ) ਮੇਰਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਹੈ, (ਸਿੰਬਲ ਦੇ ਫਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਤੋਤੇ ਭੁਲੇਖਾ ਖਾ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਸੇ ਫਲ ਕੰਮਿ ਨ ਆਵਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਤੇ ਗੁਣ ਮੈ ਤਨਿ ਹੰਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ॥੪॥
say fal kamm na aavnHee tay gun mai tan haNniH. ||4||
because those fruits are useless; the qualities of my body are just like those fruits of a simmal tree. ||4||
(ਸਿੰਬਲ ਦੇ) ਉਹ ਫਲ (ਤੋਤਿਆਂ ਦੇ) ਕੰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੇ, ਉਹੋ ਜੇਹੇ ਹੀ ਗੁਣ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਹਨ ॥੪॥
ਅੰਧੁਲੈ ਭਾਰੁ ਉਠਾਇਆ ਡੂਗਰ ਵਾਟ ਬਹੁਤੁ ॥
anDhulai bhaar uthaa-i-aa doogar vaat bahut.
I am spiritually ignorant and carrying a heavy load of sins and my life’s journey is on a very long and mountainous path.
ਮੈਂ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਨੇ (ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦਾ) ਭਾਰ ਚੁੱਕਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, (ਅਗਾਂਹ ਮੇਰਾ ਜੀਵਨ-ਪੰਧ) ਬੜਾ ਪਹਾੜੀ ਰਸਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਅਖੀ ਲੋੜੀ ਨਾ ਲਹਾ ਹਉ ਚੜਿ ਲੰਘਾ ਕਿਤੁ ॥੫॥
akhee lorhee naa lahaa ha-o charh langhaa kit. ||5||
I cannot find the right path with my eyes; how can I climb up and cross over the mountain of vices (without spiritual wisdom)? ||5||
ਅੱਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਭਾਲਿਆਂ ਭੀ ਮੈਂ ਰਾਹ-ਖਹਿੜਾ ਲੱਭ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ ਕਿਸ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਨਾਲ ਪਹਾੜੀ ਤੇ ਚੜ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾਂ? ॥੫॥
ਚਾਕਰੀਆ ਚੰਗਿਆਈਆ ਅਵਰ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਕਿਤੁ ॥
chaakree-aa chang-aa-ee-aa avar si-aanap kit.
The flatteries, goodness and cleverness are of no use in the spiritual journey of life
ਜੀਵਨ-ਪੰਧ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਣ ਲਈ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ਾਮਦਾਂ ਨੇਕੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਚਲਾਕੀਆਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਕੰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਆ ਸਕਦੀਆਂ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ਤੂੰ ਬਧਾ ਛੁਟਹਿ ਜਿਤੁ ॥੬॥੧॥੩॥
naanak naam samaal tooN baDhaa chhuteh jit. ||6||1||3||
O’ Nanak, remember God’s Name with loving devotion, it would release you from the worldly bonds. ||6||1||3||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਤੂੰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ, ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਬੇੜੀਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਖਲਾਸੀ ਪਾ ਲਵੇਂਗਾ ॥੬॥੧॥੩॥

Raag Soohee, First Guru:
ਜਪ ਤਪ ਕਾ ਬੰਧੁ ਬੇੜੁਲਾ ਜਿਤੁ ਲੰਘਹਿ ਵਹੇਲਾ ॥
jap tap kaa banDh bayrhulaa jit langheh vahaylaa.
O’ brother, make for yourself a raft of God’s loving remembrance and penance, riding which you would easily cross the worldly ocean of vices.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਜੇਹਾ ਬੇੜਾ ਤਿਆਰ ਕਰ, ਜਿਸ ਬੇੜੇ ਵਿਚ ਤੂੰ ਇਸ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਛੇਤੀ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਵੇਂਗਾ।
ਨਾ ਸਰਵਰੁ ਨਾ ਊਛਲੈ ਐਸਾ ਪੰਥੁ ਸੁਹੇਲਾ ॥੧॥
naa sarvar naa oochhlai aisaa panth suhaylaa. ||1||
By doing so, your spiritual journey would go so smoothly as if there were no worldly ocean or tides of emotional attachment to stop you. ||1||
(ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਤੇਰਾ ਜੀਵਨ-ਰਸਤਾ ਐਸਾ ਸੌਖਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਇਗਾ ਕਿ (ਤੇਰੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਵਿਚ) ਨਾਹ ਇਹ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-) ਸਰੋਵਰ ਆਵੇਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਨਾਹ ਹੀ (ਇਸ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ) ਉਛਾਲੇ ਮਾਰੇਗਾ ॥੧॥
ਤੇਰਾ ਏਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਜੀਠੜਾ ਰਤਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਚੋਲਾ ਸਦ ਰੰਗ ਢੋਲਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tayraa ayko naam manjeeth-rhaa rataa mayraa cholaa sad rang dholaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O’ my beloved-God! Your Name alone is like the dye of fast color, which has imbued my spiritual life. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਮਜੀਠ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਪੱਕੇ ਰੰਗ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਰਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਚੋਲਾ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ
ਸਾਜਨ ਚਲੇ ਪਿਆਰਿਆ ਕਿਉ ਮੇਲਾ ਹੋਈ ॥
saajan chalay pi-aari-aa ki-o maylaa ho-ee.
Some of my dearest friends are departing towards dear God, I wonder how would their union with Him happen?
ਪਿਆਰੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਟੁਰ ਗਏ ਹਨ। ਉਹ ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣਗੇ?
ਜੇ ਗੁਣ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਗੰਠੜੀਐ ਮੇਲੇਗਾ ਸੋਈ ॥੨॥
jay gun hoveh ganth-rhee-ai maylaygaa so-ee. ||2||
if they have virtues in their account, then God would unite them with Him. ||2||
ਜੇ ਪੱਲੇ ਗੁਣ ਹੋਣ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ) ਮਿਲਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹੋਇ ਨ ਵੀਛੁੜੈ ਜੇ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹੋਈ ॥
mili-aa ho-ay na veechhurhai jay mili-aa ho-ee.
Once united with Him, there is no separation if one is truly united.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਜੀਵ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਜਾਏ ਜੇ ਉਹ ਸਚ-ਮੁਚ ਦਿਲੋਂ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਫਿਰ ਕਦੇ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਵਿਛੁੜਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਆਵਾ ਗਉਣੁ ਨਿਵਾਰਿਆ ਹੈ ਸਾਚਾ ਸੋਈ ॥੩॥
aavaa ga-on nivaari-aa hai saachaa so-ee. ||3||
His cycle of birth and death comes to an end and he feels the presence of the eternal God everywhere. ||3||
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੀ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਨਿਵਾਰਿਆ ਸੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਚੋਲਾ ॥
ha-umai maar nivaari-aa seetaa hai cholaa.
One who has eliminated his self-conceit by eradicating ego, has embellished his life so much as if he has sown a robe which is pleasing to God.
ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ ਨੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਦੂਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪਾ ਸੰਵਾਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨੀ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਹ ਕੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬੋਲਾ ॥੪॥
gur bachnee fal paa-i-aa sah kay amrit bolaa. ||4||
By following the Guru’s teachings, He has received the ambrosial words of God’s praises as a reward. ||4||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਬਚਨਾਂ ਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ ਫਲ ਵਜੋਂ ਉਸਨੇ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਮਈ ਬੋਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਏ ਹਨ ॥੪॥
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਕਹੈ ਸਹੇਲੀਹੋ ਸਹੁ ਖਰਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥
naanak kahai sahayleeho saho kharaa pi-aaraa.
Says Nanak, O’ my friends, truly lovable is our husband-God,
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ-ਹੇ ਸਹੇਲੀਹੋ! ਸਾਡਾ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਬਹੁਤ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਹੈ,
ਹਮ ਸਹ ਕੇਰੀਆ ਦਾਸੀਆ ਸਾਚਾ ਖਸਮੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ॥੫॥੨॥੪॥
ham sah kayree-aa daasee-aa saachaa khasam hamaaraa. ||5||2||4||
we are the servants of our Husband-God and He is our eternal master.||5||2||4|
ਅਸੀਂ ਖਸਮ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੋਲੀਆਂ ਹਾਂ, ਤੇ ਉਹ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਦਾ ਸਾਡੇ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਕਾਇਮ ਹੈ ॥੫॥੨॥੪॥

Raag Soohee, First Guru:
ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਭਾਂਡੈ ਭਾਉ ਤਿਨਾ ਸਵਾਰਸੀ ॥
jin ka-o bhaaNdai bhaa-o tinaa savaarasee.
O’ brother, God embellishes the life of those in whose hearts he instills the gift of His love.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਬਣਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਰੂਪ ਭਾਂਡੇ ਵਿਚ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦੀ ਭਿੱਛਿਆ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸੂਖੀ ਕਰੈ ਪਸਾਉ ਦੂਖ ਵਿਸਾਰਸੀ ॥
sookhee karai pasaa-o dookh visaarasee.
He blesses them with spiritual peace and makes them forget their sorrows.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਭੁਲਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਹਸਾ ਮੂਲੇ ਨਾਹਿ ਸਰਪਰ ਤਾਰਸੀ ॥੧॥
sahsaa moolay naahi sarpar taarsee. ||1||
There is absolutely no doubt that God ferries them across the worldly ocean of vices. ||1||
ਇਸ ਗੱਲ ਵਿਚ ਰਤਾ ਭੀ ਸ਼ੱਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਿ ਅਜੇਹੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜ਼ਰੂਰ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਗੁਰੁ ਆਇ ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਲੀਖਿਆ ॥
tinHaa mili-aa gur aa-ay jin ka-o leekhi-aa.
The Guru comes to meet those who are preordained.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ (ਧੁਰੋਂ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਦਾ) ਲੇਖ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਆ ਕੇ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਉ ਦੇਵੈ ਦੀਖਿਆ ॥
amrit har kaa naa-o dayvai deekhi-aa.
and blesses them with the ambrosial Name of God as the divine mantra.
ਗੁਰੂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਵਜੋਂ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਚਾਲਹਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭਾਇ ਭਵਹਿ ਨ ਭੀਖਿਆ ॥੨॥
chaaleh satgur bhaa-ay bhaveh na bheekhi-aa. ||2||
Those who live their life by the Guru’s teachings, never wander around asking for any other guidance. ||2||
ਉਹ ਬੰਦੇ (ਜੀਵਨ-ਸਫ਼ਰ ਵਿਚ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦੱਸੇ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਤੁਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ (ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਪਾਸੇ) ਭਟਕਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਫਿਰਦੇ ॥੨॥
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਮਹਲੁ ਹਜੂਰਿ ਦੂਜੇ ਨਿਵੈ ਕਿਸੁ ॥
jaa ka-o mahal hajoor doojay nivai kis.
One who lives in God’s presence, does not bow down to any other.
ਜਿਸ ਬੰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਥਾਂ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਤਰਲੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ।
ਦਰਿ ਦਰਵਾਣੀ ਨਾਹਿ ਮੂਲੇ ਪੁਛ ਤਿਸੁ ॥
dar darvaanee naahi moolay puchh tis.
Even the messenger of death does not question him.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਦਰਵਾਜ਼ੇ ਤੇ (ਪਹੁੰਚੇ ਹੋਏ ਨੂੰ ਜਮ ਆਦਿਕ) ਦਰਬਾਨਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਰਤਾ ਭਰ ਭੀ ਪੁੱਛ-ਗਿੱਛ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ,
ਛੁਟੈ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਬੋਲਿ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨਦਰਿ ਜਿਸੁ ॥੩॥
chhutai taa kai bol saahib nadar jis. ||3||
By following the Guru’s word he is liberated from the worldly bonds because he has the grace of the Master-God upon him.
ਉਸ ਉਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਬਚਨ ਵਿਚ ਚੱਲ ਕੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਮੁਕਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਘਲੇ ਆਣੇ ਆਪਿ ਜਿਸੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਦੂਜਾ ਮਤੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
ghalay aanay aap jis naahee doojaa matai ko-ay.
He Himself sends out, and recalls the mortal beings from the world; no one else gives Him advice.
ਜਿਸ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਦੂਜਾ ਕੋਈ ਮੱਤਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੇ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਭੇਜਦਾ ਹੈ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਵਾਪਸ ਸੱਦ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਢਾਹਿ ਉਸਾਰੇ ਸਾਜਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਸਭ ਸੋਇ ॥
dhaahi usaaray saaj jaanai sabh so-ay.
He Himself destroys, creates, and embellishes the universe; He is the one who knows everything.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜਗਤ-ਰਚਨਾ ਢਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਸਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਉ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਖਸੀਸ ਨਦਰੀ ਕਰਮੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੪॥੩॥੫॥
naa-o naanak bakhsees nadree karam ho-ay. ||4||3||5||
O’ Nanak, on whom is bestowed the gift of His grace is blessed with His Name. ||4||3||5||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਵਜੋਂ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੩॥੫॥
