ਹਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਪੰਚ ਤਤੁ ਬਿਸਥਾਰਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਧਾਤੂ ਪੰਚ ਆਪਿ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
har aapay panch tat bisthaaraa vich Dhaatoo panch aap paavai.
God Himself has created the expanse from the five basic elements (air, fire, water, earth, and ether), and has infused the five impulses (sight, speech, relish, touch and sexual desire) in the five elements.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਪੰਜ ਤੱਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਜਗਤ-ਖਿਲਾਰਾ ਖਿਲਾਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਤੱਤਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪੰਜੇ ਬੋਧ ਸ਼ਕਤੀਆਂ ਪਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲੇ ਆਪੇ ਹਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਝਗਰੁ ਚੁਕਾਵੈ ॥੨॥੩॥
jan naanak satgur maylay aapay har aapay jhagar chukhaavai. ||2||3||
O’ Nanak, God Himself unites his devotees with the true Guru and He Himself resolves all the conflicts. ||2||3||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਨੂੰ ਨੂੰ ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਖੁਦ ਹੀ ਝਗੜੇ ਨਿਪਟਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥੩॥

Raag Bairaaree, Fourth Guru:
ਜਪਿ ਮਨ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਾ ॥
jap man raam naam nistaaraa.
O’ my mind always remember God’s Name with adoration, it would ferry you across the worldly ocean of vices.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆ ਕਰ, (ਇਹ ਨਾਮ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ-ਉਤਾਰਾ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕੋਟ ਕੋਟੰਤਰ ਕੇ ਪਾਪ ਸਭਿ ਖੋਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਭਵਜਲੁ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kot kotantar kay paap sabh khovai har bhavjal paar utaaraa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
God destroys all the sins of millions of births and ferries one across the dreadfull world-ocean of vices. ||1||Pause||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਪ ਨਾਸ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ,ਅਤੇ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਕਾਇਆ ਨਗਰਿ ਬਸਤ ਹਰਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰਾ ॥
kaa-i-aa nagar basat har su-aamee har nirbha-o nirvair nirankaaraa.
The Master-God resides in our body; He is without any fear, without vengeance and without any form.
ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਾਡੇ ਸਰੀਰ-ਸ਼ਹਰ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਡਰ ਨਹੀਂ, ਕਿਸੇ ਨਾਲ ਵੈਰ ਨਹੀਂ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਆਕਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਹਰਿ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਬਸਤ ਕਛੁ ਨਦਰਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਲਾਧਾ ਗੁਰ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥੧॥
har nikat basat kachh nadar na aavai har laaDhaa gur veechaaraa. ||1||
Even though that God resides near us, yet He is not visible; He can be realized by reflecting on the Guru’s teachings. ||1||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਾਡੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ; ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀ ਸੂਝ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਹਰੀ ਲੱਭ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਹਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਸਾਹੁ ਸਰਾਫੁ ਰਤਨੁ ਹੀਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਕੀਆ ਪਾਸਾਰਾ ॥
har aapay saahu saraaf ratan heeraa har aap kee-aa paasaaraa.
God Himself is like a banker, the jeweller, the gem and the trader of jewel-like Naam; God Himself created the entire expanse of the creation.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹੀਰਾ ਹੈ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਰਤਨ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਹਾਝਣ ਵਾਲਾ) ਸ਼ਾਹ ਹੈ ਸਰਾਫ਼ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਖਿਲਾਰਾ ਰਚਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸੁ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਹਾਝੇ ਸੋ ਸਾਹੁ ਸਚਾ ਵਣਜਾਰਾ ॥੨॥੪॥
naanak jis kirpaa karay so har naam vihaajhay so saahu sachaa vanjaaraa. ||2||4||
O’ Nanak, one on whom God bestows mercy, trades in Naam; He alone is the true banker and the true trader of Naam. ||2||4||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਹਾਝਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਨਾਮ-ਰਤਨ ਦਾ) ਸਾਹੂਕਾਰ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ (ਇਸ ਨਾਮ-ਰਤਨ ਦਾ) ਵਣਜ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥੪॥

ਜਪਿ ਮਨ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰਾ ॥
jap man har niranjan nirankaaraa.
O’ my mind, always remember with adoration the immaculate and formless God.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆ ਕਰ, ਜੋ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਖ਼ਾਸ ਸਰੂਪ ਨਹੀਂ ।
ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sadaa sadaa har Dhi-aa-ee-ai sukh-daata jaa kaa ant na paaraavaaraa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Forever and ever, we should lovingly remember God, the benefactor of celestial peace; He is infinite and His virtues are limitless. ||1||Pause||
ਉਸ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਸਿਮਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਸਕਦਾ, ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਸਰੂਪ ਦਾ ਹੱਦ-ਬੰਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭਦਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਅਗਨਿ ਕੁੰਟ ਮਹਿ ਉਰਧ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖੈ ਉਦਰ ਮੰਝਾਰਾ ॥
agan kunt meh uraDh liv laagaa har raakhai udar manjhaaraa.
When hanging upside down in the fiery hot womb of the mother, one remains attuned to God’s Name, He protects it in the middle of the womb.
ਜਦੋਂ ਜੀਵ (ਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੇਟ ਦੀ) ਅੱਗ ਦੇ ਕੁੰਡ ਵਿਚ ਪੁੱਠਾ ਲਟਕਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਸੁਰਤ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤਦੋਂ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਮਾਂ ਦੇ) ਪੇਟ ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸੋ ਐਸਾ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਹੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਛਡਾਵਣਹਾਰਾ ॥੧॥
so aisaa har sayvhu mayray man har ant chhadaavanhaaraa. ||1||
O’ my mind, always remain engaged in the devotional worship of God, because He is the one who would also deliver you in the end. ||1||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਦਾ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰ, ਅਖ਼ੀਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਭੀ ਉਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਛਡਾ ਸਕਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਬਸਿਆ ਮੇਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਕਉ ਕਰਹੁ ਨਮਸਕਾਰਾ ॥
jaa kai hirdai basi-aa mayraa har har tis jan ka-o karahu namaskaaraa.
Bow down in reverence to that person in whose heart God is enshrined.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵੱਸਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅੱਗੇ ਸਦਾ ਸਿਰ ਨਿਵਾਇਆ ਕਰ।
ਹਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਪਾਈਐ ਹਰਿ ਜਪੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਧਾਰਾ ॥੨॥੫॥
har kirpaa tay paa-ee-ai har jap naanak naam aDhaaraa. ||2||5||
O’ Nanak, it is by God’s grace that one receives the opportunity to remember Him and Naam becomes the support of his life. ||2||5||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਜਾਪ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਨਾਮ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥੫॥

ਜਪਿ ਮਨ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਤ ਧਿਆਇ ॥
jap man har har naam nit Dhi-aa-ay.
O’ my mind, always lovingly remember and meditate on God’s Name,
ਹੇ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਮਨ! ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆ ਕਰ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰਿਆ ਕਰ,
ਜੋ ਇਛਹਿ ਸੋਈ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਦੂਖੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਆਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jo ichheh so-ee fal paavahi fir dookh na laagai aa-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
and you would receive the fruits of your heart’s desires, and no sorrow would touch you again. ||1||Pause||
ਤੂੰ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਚਾਹੇਂਗਾ, ਉਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਏਂਗਾ। ਕੋਈ ਦੁੱਖ ਭੀ ਆ ਕੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਪੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕੇਗਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਸੋ ਜਪੁ ਸੋ ਤਪੁ ਸਾ ਬ੍ਰਤ ਪੂਜਾ ਜਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਲਗਾਇ ॥
so jap so tap saa barat poojaa jit har si-o pareet lagaa-ay.
That meditation, through which one develops love for God, is the real penance, austerity, ritualistic fasting and worship.
ਜਿਸ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਬਣੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਹੀ ਜਪ, ਤਪ, ਵਰਤ ਤੇ ਪੂਜਾ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਹੋਰ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਸਭ ਝੂਠੀ ਇਕ ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਬਿਸਰਿ ਸਭ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥
bin har pareet hor pareet sabh jhoothee ik khin meh bisar sabh jaa-ay. ||1||
Except God’s Love, every other love is false; in an instant, it is all forgotten. ||1||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਹਰ ਇਕ ਪਿਆਰ ਝੂਠਾ ਹੈ, ਇਕ ਛਿਨ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਪਿਆਰ ਭੁੱਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਤੂ ਬੇਅੰਤੁ ਸਰਬ ਕਲ ਪੂਰਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਹੀ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
too bay-ant sarab kal pooraa kichh keemat kahee na jaa-ay.
O’ God, You are infinite and all powerful; Your worth cannot be described at all.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਹੈਂ, ਤੇਰਾ ਮੁੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਣਿ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਵੈ ਛਡਾਇ ॥੨॥੬॥
naanak saran tumHaaree har jee-o bhaavai tivai chhadaa-ay. ||2||6||
Nanak says, O’ God! I have come to Your refuge, as it pleases You, save me from any other love which makes me forget You. ||2||6||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗੇ, ਮੈਨੂੰ (ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾਈ ਰੱਖ ॥੨॥੬॥

Raag Bairaaree, Fifth Guru, First Beat:
ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik-oNkaar satgur parsaad.
One eternal God, realized by the grace of the True Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਮਿਲਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਇਓ ॥
sant janaa mil har jas gaa-i-o.
O’ brother, the one who joined the holy congregation and sang God’s praises,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਭੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਇਆ ਹੈ,
ਕੋਟਿ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਦੂਖ ਗਵਾਇਓ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kot janam kay dookh gavaa-i-o. ||1|| rahaa-o.
eradicated the sins of his millions of births. ||1||Pause||
ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲਏ ਹਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਜੋ ਚਾਹਤ ਸੋਈ ਮਨਿ ਪਾਇਓ ॥
jo chaahat so-ee man paa-i-o.
He received whatever he desired in his mind,
ਉਸ ਨੇ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਭੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਚਾਹ ਕੀਤੀ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਗਈ।
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦਿਵਾਇਓ ॥੧॥
kar kirpaa har naam divaa-i-o. ||1||
and bestowing mercy the Guru helped him to realize God’s Name. ||1||
(ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ) ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਭੀ ਦਿਵਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ॥੧॥
ਸਰਬ ਸੂਖ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਵਡਾਈ ॥
sarab sookh har naam vadaa-ee.
All comfort, celestial peace and honor is received by remaining attuned to God’s Name.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥੨॥੧॥੭॥
gur parsaad naanak mat paa-ee. ||2||1||7||
O’ Nanak, the intellect to remain attuned to God’s Name is received through the Guru’s grace.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਨ ਦੀ ਇਹ ਅਕਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੨॥੧॥੭॥
