Raag Bairaaree, Fourth Guru, First Beat, couplets:
ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik-oNkaar satgur parsaad.
One eternal God, realized by the grace of the True Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸੁਨਿ ਮਨ ਅਕਥ ਕਥਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ॥
sun man akath kathaa har naam.
O’ my mind, listen to the praises of God whose form cannot be described.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਤੇ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਕਰ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਸਰੂਪ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਰਿਧਿ ਬੁਧਿ ਸਿਧਿ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਭਜੁ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਮ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
riDh buDh siDh sukh paavahi bhaj gurmat har raam raam. ||1|| rahaa-o.
You would receive celestial peace, exalted wisdom, and other miraculous powers by always remembering God through the Guru’s teachings. ||1||Pause
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਉਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਭਜਨ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰ। ਤੂੰ ਧਨ-ਪਦਾਰਥ, ਉੱਚੀ ਅਕਲ, ਕਰਾਮਾਤੀ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ, ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ (ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ) ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਏਂਗਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਨਾਨਾ ਖਿਆਨ ਪੁਰਾਨ ਜਸੁ ਊਤਮ ਖਟ ਦਰਸਨ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਰਾਮ ॥
naanaa khi-aan puraan jas ootam khat darsan gaavahi raam.
Numerous legends, the Puraanas, and the six Shaastras, sing the sublime praises of God.
ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਯੁੱਗੀ ਕਾਵਯ, ਮਿਥਿਹਾਸਕ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਅਤੇ ਛੇ ਸ਼ਾਸਤਰ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਕੀਰਤੀ ਆਲਾਪਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸੰਕਰ ਕ੍ਰੋੜਿ ਤੇਤੀਸ ਧਿਆਇਓ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਨਿਓ ਹਰਿ ਮਰਮਾਮ ॥੧॥
sankar krorh taytees Dhi-aa-i-o nahee jaani-o har marmaam. ||1||
Even angels like Shiva and three hundred thirty million deities have meditated on God, but they could not find His mystery. ||1||
ਸ਼ਿਵ ਜੀ ਅਤੇ ਤੇਤੀ ਕ੍ਰੋੜ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰਿਆ, ਪਰ ਉਸ ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਭੇਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
ਸੁਰਿ ਨਰ ਗਣ ਗੰਧ੍ਰਬ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਸਭ ਗਾਵਤ ਜੇਤ ਉਪਾਮ ॥
sur nar gan ganDharab jas gaavahi sabh gaavat jayt upaam.
The angelic and divine beings, and the celestial singers sing His Praises; other creatures which God has created sing His praises also.
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਜਸ ਦੇਵੀ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਗਣ ਗੰਧਰਬ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਆ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਤਨੀ ਭੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਹੈ ਸਾਰੀ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਤੇ ਸੰਤ ਭਲੇ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਮ ॥੨॥੧॥
naanak kirpaa karee har jin ka-o tay sant bhalay har raam. ||2||1||
O’ Nanak, those on whom God bestows mercy, become the good Saints of God with supreme spiritual status. ||2||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉੱਚੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਸੰਤ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੨॥੧॥

Raag Bairaaree, Fourth Guru:
ਮਨ ਮਿਲਿ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਇਓ ॥
man mil sant janaa jas gaa-i-o.
O’ my mind, joining the saintly devotees, that person started singing the praises of God,
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਨੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ,
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਤਨੁ ਰਤਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਨੀਕੋ ਗੁਰਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦਾਨੁ ਦਿਵਾਇਓ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
har har ratan ratan har neeko gur satgur daan divaa-i-o. ||1|| rahaa-o.
whom the true Guru has helped to receive the blessing of the jewel like precious Naam form God. ||1||Pause||
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਰਤਨ ਨਾਮ ਕੀਮਤੀ ਨਾਮ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਵਜੋਂ ਦਿਵਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਕਉ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਸਭੁ ਦੇਵਉ ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੁਨਾਇਓ ॥
tis jan ka-o man tan sabh dayva-o jin har har naam sunaa-i-o.
I offer my mind, body and everything to that devotee who recited to me the Name of God.
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨ ਤਨ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਭੇਟਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸੁਣਾਇਆ ਹੈ,
ਧਨੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਸੰਪੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਦੇਵਉ ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਮੀਤੁ ਮਿਲਾਇਓ ॥੧॥
Dhan maa-i-aa sampai tis dayva-o jin har meet milaa-i-o. ||1||
I surrender my worldly riches and power to the one who has united me with my friend, God. ||1||
ਧਨ-ਪਦਾਰਥ ਮਾਇਆ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਵਾਲੇ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਜਿਸ ਨੇ (ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਮਿੱਤਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਖਿਨੁ ਕਿੰਚਿਤ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੀ ਜਗਦੀਸਰਿ ਤਬ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਧਿਆਇਓ ॥
khin kichint kirpaa karee jagdeesar tab har har har jas Dhi-aa-i-o.
When the Master-God of the world bestowed just a tiny bit of mercy on someone even for a moment, right then he started singing His praises.
ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਜਦੋਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਉਤੇ ਇਕ ਪਲ ਭਰ ਲਈ ਥੋੜੀ ਜਿਤਨੀ ਭੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਤਦੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਨੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ।
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਹਰਿ ਭੇਟੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੁਖੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਰੋਗੁ ਗਵਾਇਓ ॥੨॥੨॥
jan naanak ka-o har bhaytay su-aamee dukh ha-umai rog gavaa-i-o. ||2||2||
O’ Nanak, one who realized the Master-God, all his misery and the ailment of egotism got vanished. ||2||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਦੁੱਖ (ਤੇ) ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ॥੨॥੨॥

Raag Bairaaree, Fourth Guru:
ਹਰਿ ਜਨੁ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵੈ ॥
har jan raam naam gun gaavai.
A devotee of God always keeps singing His praises.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਭਗਤ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਨਿੰਦ ਕਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਕੀ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਗੁਨੁ ਨ ਗਵਾਵੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jay ko-ee nind karay har jan kee apunaa gun na gavaavai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Even if someone slanders the humble devotee of God, he does not give up his own virtuous nature. ||1||Pause||
ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਸ ਭਗਤ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ (ਭੀ) ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਭਗਤ ਆਪਣਾ ਸੁਭਾਉ ਨਹੀਂ ਤਿਆਗਦਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਆਪੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥
jo kichh karay so aapay su-aamee har aapay kaar kamaavai.
Whatever God does, He does by Himself; God Himself does all the deeds.
ਜਿਹੜਾ ਕੁਝ ਭੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਖੁਦ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਮਤਿ ਦੇਵੈ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਬੋਲਿ ਬੁਲਾਵੈ ॥੧॥
har aapay hee mat dayvai su-aamee har aapay bol bulaavai. ||1||
God Himself imparts intellect to all beings; He Himself speaks and inspires all the beings to speak. ||1||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਮਤਿ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਵਿਚ ਬੈਠਾ ਬੋਲ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਬੋਲਣ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਨਾ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
