ਬਿਨੁ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਜੋ ਜੀਵਨੁ ਬਲਨਾ ਸਰਪ ਜੈਸੇ ਅਰਜਾਰੀ ॥
bin simran jo jeevan balnaa sarap jaisay arjaaree.
Life without lovingly remembering God, is like living the life of a serpent (which, even though lives for a long time, keeps releasing poison, hurting others.).
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਜਿਤਨੀ ਭੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਗੁਜ਼ਾਰਨੀ ਹੈ (ਉਹ ਇਉਂ ਹੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ) ਜਿਵੇਂ ਸੱਪ (ਆਪਣੀ) ਉਮਰ ਗੁਜ਼ਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਮਰ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਲੰਮੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਜ਼ਹਿਰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ)।
ਨਵ ਖੰਡਨ ਕੋ ਰਾਜੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਅੰਤਿ ਚਲੈਗੋ ਹਾਰੀ ॥੧॥
nav khandan ko raaj kamaavai ant chalaigo haaree. ||1||
One may rule over the earth, but in the end, without remembering God with adoration, he shall depart from this world, losing the game of life. ||1||
(ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਵਾਂਜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜੇ) ਸਾਰੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਦਾ ਰਾਜ ਭੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹੇ, ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਆਖ਼ਰ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਬਾਜ਼ੀ ਹਾਰ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਗੁਣ ਤਿਨ ਹੀ ਗਾਏ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੀ ॥
gun niDhaan gun tin hee gaa-ay jaa ka-o kirpaa Dhaaree.
Only that person sings praises of God, the treasure of virtues, on whom he has bestowed His grace.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਹੀ ਗਾਏ ਹਨ ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ ਹਰੀ ਨੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ।
ਸੋ ਸੁਖੀਆ ਧੰਨੁ ਉਸੁ ਜਨਮਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ॥੨॥੨॥
so sukhee-aa Dhan us janmaa naanak tis balihaaree. ||2||2||
He is blessed and leads a peaceful life; Nanak is dedicated to such a fortunate person. ||2||2||
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਬਿਤੀਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਮੁਬਾਰਿਕ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਅਜੇਹੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਹੋਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥੨॥

ਰਾਗ ਟੋਡੀ, ਘਰ ੨ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਅਰਜਨਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਚਾਰ-ਬੰਦਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਬਾਣੀ।
ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik-oNkaar satgur parsaad.
There is one God, realized by the grace of the true Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਧਾਇਓ ਰੇ ਮਨ ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਧਾਇਓ ॥
Dhaa-i-o ray man dah dis Dhaa-i-o.
The human mind keeps wandering in all the ten directions.
ਇਹ ਮਨ ਦੱਸੀ ਪਾਸੀਂ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਾਇਆ ਮਗਨ ਸੁਆਦਿ ਲੋਭਿ ਮੋਹਿਓ ਤਿਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਆਪਿ ਭੁਲਾਇਓ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
maa-i-aa magan su-aad lobh mohi-o tin parabh aap bhulaa-i-o. rahaa-o.
It remains engrossed in worldly riches, enticed by the relishes of greed; God Himself has led it astray. ||Pause||
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਦ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਲੋਭ ਵਿਚ ਮੋਹਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਪਰ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਭੀ ਕੀਹ ਵੱਸ?) ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਾ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੈ ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਹਰਿ ਕਥਾ ਹਰਿ ਜਸ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਸਿਉ ਇਕੁ ਮੁਹਤੁ ਨ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਇਓ ॥
har kathaa har jas saaDhsangat si-o ik muhat na ih man laa-i-o.
One does not attune his mind, even for a moment, to the gospel of God, His praises, or the company of saintly persons.
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਨਾਲ, ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਨਾਲ, ਇਕ ਪਲ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਭੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਇਹ ਮਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਜੋੜਦਾ।
ਬਿਗਸਿਓ ਪੇਖਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਕਸੁੰਭ ਕੋ ਪਰ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਜੋਹਨਿ ਜਾਇਓ ॥੧॥
bigsi-o paykh rang kasumbh ko par garih johan jaa-i-o. ||1||
Like the short-lived color of the safflower, he feels attracted on seeing the property of other people. ||1||
ਕਸੁੰਭੇ ਦੇ ਫੁੱਲ ਦੇ ਰੰਗ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰਾਏ ਘਰ ਤੱਕਣ ਤੁਰ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਸਿਉ ਭਾਉ ਨ ਕੀਨੋ ਨਹ ਸਤ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਮਨਾਇਓ ॥
charan kamal si-o bhaa-o na keeno nah sat purakh manaa-i-o.
He neither developed any love for God’s lotus feet (His immaculate Name), nor he has tried to please God.
ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਤੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਇਆ, ਤੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ।
ਧਾਵਤ ਕਉ ਧਾਵਹਿ ਬਹੁ ਭਾਤੀ ਜਿਉ ਤੇਲੀ ਬਲਦੁ ਭ੍ਰਮਾਇਓ ॥੨॥
Dhaavat ka-o Dhaaveh baho bhaatee ji-o taylee balad bharmaa-i-o. ||2||
Instead, he keeps chasing the short lived worldly riches, going around like an oilman’s ox. ||2||
ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਤੂੰ ਦੌੜਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ (ਇਹ ਤੇਰੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਕਦੇ ਮੁੱਕਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ) ਜਿਵੇਂ ਤੇਲੀ ਦਾ ਬਲਦ (ਕੋਹਲੂ ਅੱਗੇ ਜੁੱਪ ਕੇ) ਤੁਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਕੋਹਲੂ ਦੇ ਦੁਆਲੇ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਪੈਂਡਾ ਮੁੱਕਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਉਸੇ ਦੇ ਦੁਆਲੇ ਤੁਰਿਆ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ) ॥੨॥
ਨਾਮ ਦਾਨੁ ਇਸਨਾਨੁ ਨ ਕੀਓ ਇਕ ਨਿਮਖ ਨ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਗਾਇਓ ॥
naam daan isnaan na kee-o ik nimakh na keerat gaa-i-o.
Further, he does not remember God, nor does he perform any charitable deeds or ever sing God’s praises.
ਹੇ ਮਨ! (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਦ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਪਦਾ, ਸੇਵਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ, ਜੀਵਨ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣਾਂਦਾ, ਇਕ ਪਲ ਭਰ ਭੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ।
ਨਾਨਾ ਝੂਠਿ ਲਾਇ ਮਨੁ ਤੋਖਿਓ ਨਹ ਬੂਝਿਓ ਅਪਨਾਇਓ ॥੩॥
naanaa jhooth laa-ay man tokhi-o nah boojhi-o apnaa-i-o. ||3||
By diverting to myriads of falsehoods, he has appeased his mind, but has not recognized his own true self. ||3||
ਕਈ ਕਿਸਮ ਦੇ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ (ਜਗਤ) ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਸੰਤੁਸ਼ਟ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪਣੇ ਅਸਲ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਛਾਣਦਾ ॥੩॥
ਪਰਉਪਕਾਰ ਨ ਕਬਹੂ ਕੀਏ ਨਹੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਧਿਆਇਓ ॥
par-upkaar na kabhoo kee-ay nahee satgur sayv Dhi-aa-i-o.
He has neither performed any charitable deeds for others, nor followed the Guru’s teachings or meditated on God.
ਹੇ ਮਨ! (ਮਾਇਆ-ਮਗਨ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਕਦੇ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਲਾਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ,
ਪੰਚ ਦੂਤ ਰਚਿ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਗੋਸਟਿ ਮਤਵਾਰੋ ਮਦ ਮਾਇਓ ॥੪॥
panch doot rach sangat gosat matvaaro mad maa-i-o. ||4||
He keeps entangled in the company of the five demons ( lust, anger, greed, attachment, and ego), and remains intoxicated Maya. ||4||
(ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ) ਪੰਜਾਂ ਵੈਰੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਥ ਬਣਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮੇਲ-ਮਿਲਾਪ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਨਸ਼ੇ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਕਰਉ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਵਛਲ ਸੁਣਿ ਆਇਓ ॥
kara-o bayntee saaDhsangat har bhagat vachhal sun aa-i-o.
I submit and say, O’ God, upon hearing that You love Your devotees, I have sought Your shelter.
ਮੈਂ (ਤਾਂ) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ-ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਮੈਂ ਇਹ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਭਗਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਭਾਗਿ ਪਰਿਓ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਛੈ ਰਾਖੁ ਲਾਜ ਅਪੁਨਾਇਓ ॥੫॥੧॥੩॥
naanak bhaag pari-o har paachhai raakh laaj apunaa-i-o. ||5||1||3||
O’ God, (I) Nanak have come running after You, please accept me as Your own and save my honor. ||5||1||3||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਮੈਂ ਦੌੜ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਆ ਪਿਆ ਹਾਂ (ਤੇ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ-ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਰੱਖ ॥੫॥੧॥੩॥

Raag Todee, fifth Guru:
ਮਾਨੁਖੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਬੂਝੇ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਆਇਆ ॥
maanukh bin boojhay birthaa aa-i-aa.
Any human being who doesn’t understand the purpose of life, deem that person’s coming into the world as fruitless.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਜਨਮ-ਮਨੋਰਥ ਨੂੰ) ਸਮਝਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਆਇਆ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਹੀ ਜਾਣੋ।
ਅਨਿਕ ਸਾਜ ਸੀਗਾਰ ਬਹੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਜਿਉ ਮਿਰਤਕੁ ਓਢਾਇਆ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
anik saaj seegaar baho kartaa ji-o mirtak odhaa-i-o. rahaa-o.
He may be embellishing himself with myriad of decorations and ornaments, but doing so would be like dressing up a dead body. ||Pause||
(ਜਨਮ-ਮਨੋਰਥ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਸਿੰਗਾਰਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਬਨਾਵਟਾਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤਾਂ ਇਉਂ ਹੀ ਹੈ) ਜਿਵੇਂ ਮੁਰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਕਪੜੇ ਪਾਏ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਧਾਇ ਧਾਇ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਨ ਸ੍ਰਮੁ ਕੀਨੋ ਇਕਤ੍ਰ ਕਰੀ ਹੈ ਮਾਇਆ ॥
Dhaa-ay Dhaa-ay kirpan saram keeno ikatar karee hai maa-i-aa.
With great effort and exertion, the miser toils to amass the worldly riches,
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੀਵਨ-ਮਨੋਰਥ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਉਂ ਹੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਵੇਂ) ਕੋਈ ਸ਼ੂਮ ਦੌੜ-ਭੱਜ ਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੇਹਨਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮਾਇਆ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਦਾਨੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਨਹੀ ਸੰਤਨ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਿਤ ਹੀ ਕਾਜਿ ਨ ਆਇਆ ॥੧॥
daan punn nahee santan sayvaa kit hee kaaj na aa-i-aa. ||1||
but, if he does not perform any charitable deeds and service of the saints with it, then all his wealth has served no purpose. ||1||
(ਪਰ ਉਸ ਮਾਇਆ ਨਾਲ) ਉਹ ਦਾਨ-ਪੁੰਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ, ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ। ਉਹ ਧਨ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਭੀ ਕੰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ ॥੧॥
ਕਰਿ ਆਭਰਣ ਸਵਾਰੀ ਸੇਜਾ ਕਾਮਨਿ ਥਾਟੁ ਬਨਾਇਆ ॥
kar aabhran savaaree sayjaa kaaman thaat banaa-i-aa.
Living, without understanding the purpose of life, is like a woman who decks herself with myriad of ornaments, decorations and various other pursuits,
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਉਂ ਹੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਵੇਂ) ਕੋਈ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਗਹਣੇ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਸੇਜ ਸਵਾਰਦੀ ਹੈ, (ਸੁੰਦਰਤਾ ਦਾ) ਅਡੰਬਰ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਸੰਗੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਓ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਭਰਤੇ ਪੇਖਿ ਪੇਖਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
sang na paa-i-o apunay bhartay paykh paykh dukh paa-i-aa. ||2||
but if she does not obtain the company of her husband, then looking at these things she grieves. ||2||
ਪਰ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਖਸਮ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹਾਸਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ। (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਗਹਣਿਆਂ ਆਦਿ ਨੂੰ) ਵੇਖ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਗੋਂ ਦੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਸਾਰੋ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਮਜੂਰੀ ਕਰਤਾ ਤੁਹੁ ਮੂਸਲਹਿ ਛਰਾਇਆ ॥
saaro dinas majooree kartaa tuhu mooslahi chharaa-i-aa.
Without realizing its purpose, one’s life is like that of a person who may labor all day thrashing husk with a pestle,
(ਨਾਮ-ਹੀਣ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਉਂ ਹੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਵੇਂ) ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਾਰਾ ਦਿਨ (ਇਹ) ਮਜੂਰੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿ) ਮੂਹਲੀ ਨਾਲ ਤੁਹ ਹੀ ਛੜਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਖੇਦੁ ਭਇਓ ਬੇਗਾਰੀ ਨਿਆਈ ਘਰ ਕੈ ਕਾਮਿ ਨ ਆਇਆ ॥੩॥
khayd bha-i-o baygaaree ni-aa-ee ghar kai kaam na aa-i-aa. ||3||
or like a forced laborer who works for someone without wages, but does nothing for his own household. ||3||
(ਜਾਂ) ਕਿਸੇ ਵਿਗਾਰੀ ਨੂੰ (ਵਿਗਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਨਿਰਾ) ਕਸ਼ਟ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਮਜੂਰ ਦੀ ਮਜੂਰੀ ਜਾਂ ਵਿਗਾਰੀ ਦੀ ਵਿਗਾਰ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੰਮ ਕੁਝ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ ॥੩॥
ਭਇਓ ਅਨੁਗ੍ਰਹੁ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸਾਇਆ ॥
bha-i-o anoograhu jaa ka-o parabh ko tis hirdai naam vasaa-i-aa.
But when God bestows mercy on His devotee, He implants Naam in the devotee’s heart.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪਣਾ) ਨਾਮ ਵਸਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਕੈ ਪਾਛੈ ਪਰਿਅਉ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੨॥੪॥
saaDhsangat kai paachhai pari-a-o jan naanak har ras paa-i-aa. ||4||2||4||
O’ Nanak,the devotee then seeks and follows the guidance of the saintly congregation and enjoys the sublime essence of Naam. ||4||2||4||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਦੀ ਸਰਨੀ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੨॥੪॥

ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਨਿਧਿ ਬਸਹੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਹਰਿ ਨੀਤ ॥
kirpaa niDh bashu ridai har neet.
O’ God, the Treasure of mercy, always remain enshrined in my heart.
ਹੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਰਹੁ।
ਤੈਸੀ ਬੁਧਿ ਕਰਹੁ ਪਰਗਾਸਾ ਲਾਗੈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੰਗਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
taisee buDh karahu pargaasaa laagai parabh sang pareet. rahaa-o.
O’ God, please enlighten such wisdom in me that I may be imbued in love for You. ||Pause||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਅਕਲ ਦਾ ਚਾਨਣ ਕਰ, ਕਿ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਰੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਬਣੀ ਰਹੇ ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਦਾਸ ਤੁਮਾਰੇ ਕੀ ਪਾਵਉ ਧੂਰਾ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਲੇ ਲੇ ਲਾਵਉ ॥
daas tumaaray kee paava-o Dhooraa mastak lay lay laava-o.
O’ God, please bless me so that I may humbly serve your devotees and apply the dust of their feet to my forehead.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਦੀ ਚਰਨ-ਧੂੜ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਾਂ, (ਉਹ ਚਰਨ-ਧੂੜ) ਲੈ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਮੱਥੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਲਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ।
ਮਹਾ ਪਤਿਤ ਤੇ ਹੋਤ ਪੁਨੀਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵਉ ॥੧॥
mahaa patit tay hot puneetaa har keertan gun gaava-o. ||1||
In this way, from a great sinner, I may become an immaculate person and sing Your praises and reflect on Your virtues.||1||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ ਮੈਂ ਵਡੇ ਪਾਪੀ ਤੋਂ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਵਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ, ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ ॥੧॥
