ਮਨਿ ਵਸੰਦੜੋ ਸਚੁ ਸਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਭੇ ਡੁਖੜੇ ਉਲਾਹਿ ॥੨॥
man vasand-rho sach saho naanak habhay dukh-rhay ulaahi. ||2||
O’ Nanak, if we realize the presence of eternal God in our heart, then all our sorrows are destroyed. ||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸੱਚਾ ਸਾਂਈ ਵੱਸ ਪਏ ਤਾਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਕੋਝੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਲਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੨॥

ਕੋਟਿ ਅਘਾ ਸਭਿ ਨਾਸ ਹੋਹਿ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਉ ॥
kot aghaa sabh naas hohi simrat har naa-o.
Millions of sins are totally erased by meditating on God’s Name.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆਂ ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਪਾਪ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਮਨ ਚਿੰਦੇ ਫਲ ਪਾਈਅਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਉ ॥
man chinday fal paa-ee-ah har kay gun gaa-o.
The fruits of one’s heart’s desires are obtained by singing God’s praises.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਮਨ-ਇੱਛਤ ਫਲ ਪਾਈਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਭੈ ਕਟੀਅਹਿ ਨਿਹਚਲ ਸਚੁ ਥਾਉ ॥
janam maran bhai katee-ah nihchal sach thaa-o.
Our fears of birth and death are removed and we obtain eternal bliss in God’s presence.
ਜੰਮਣ ਤੋਂ ਮਰਣ ਤਕ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਸਹਿਮ ਕੱਟੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਅਟੱਲ ਸੱਚੀ ਪਦਵੀ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਪੂਰਬਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣ ਸਮਾਉ ॥
poorab hovai likhi-aa har charan samaa-o.
But one merges into God’s Name only if it is so preordained.
(ਪਰ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸਮਾਈ ਤਾਂ ਹੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਜੇ ਧੁਰੋਂ ਮੱਥੇ ਤੇ ਭਾਗ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੋਵੇ।
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਰਾਖਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਉ ॥੫॥
kar kirpaa parabh raakh layho naanak bal jaa-o. ||5||
O’ God, please show mercy and protect me from the vices; Nanak is dedicated to You. ||5||
ਸੁਆਮੀ! ਮਿਹਰ ਧਾਰ ਕੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰ, ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇਰੇ ਉਤੋਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਰਚਨਾ ਅਪਾਰੰ ਮਨਿ ਬਿਲਾਸ ਸੁਆਦੰ ਰਸਹ ॥
garih rachnaa apaaraN man bilaas su-aadaN rasah.
Those who remain engrossed in the enjoyment of their beautifully decorated houses, pleasures of the mind and in the relishes of tasty foods,
ਜੋ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਘਰ ਦੀਆਂ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਸਜਾਵਟਾਂ, ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਚਾਉ ਮਲ੍ਹਾਰ, ਸੁਆਦਲੇ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਸਕਿਆਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਖੱਚਤ ਹੋਇ ਹੋਇ ਹਨ,
ਕਦਾਂਚ ਨਹ ਸਿਮਰੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇ ਜੰਤ ਬਿਸਟਾ ਕ੍ਰਿਮਹ ॥੧॥
kadaaNch nah simrant naanak tay jant bistaa kirmeh. ||1||
and never remember God; O’ Nanak, they are just like the worms of filth. ||1||
ਅਤੇ ਕਦੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਵਿਸ਼ਟੇ ਦੇ ਕੀੜੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
ਮੁਚੁ ਅਡੰਬਰੁ ਹਭੁ ਕਿਹੁ ਮੰਝਿ ਮੁਹਬਤਿ ਨੇਹ ॥
much adambar habh kihu manjh muhabat nayh.
There may be ostentatious display of wealth and everything else, and in the love for these material possessions,
ਬੜੀ ਸਜ-ਧਜ ਹੋਵੇ, ਹਰੇਕ ਸ਼ੈ ਹੋਵੇ, ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੁਨੀਆਵੀ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੀ) ਮੁਹੱਬਤਿ ਤੇ ਖਿੱਚ ਹੋਵੇ-ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ,
ਸੋ ਸਾਂਈ ਜੈਂ ਵਿਸਰੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋ ਤਨੁ ਖੇਹ ॥੨॥
so saaN-ee jaiN visrai naanak so tan khayh. ||2||
if one has forsaken God, O Nanak, the body of that person is like ashes. ||2||
ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਈਂ (ਦੀ ਯਾਦ) ਭੁੱਲ ਗਈ ਹੈ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਸਰੀਰ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਸੁਆਹ (ਹੀ) ਹੈ ॥੨॥

ਸੁੰਦਰ ਸੇਜ ਅਨੇਕ ਸੁਖ ਰਸ ਭੋਗਣ ਪੂਰੇ ॥
sundar sayj anayk sukh ras bhogan pooray.
One may have beautiful bed, countless comforts and all kinds of enjoyments.
ਜੇ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਸੇਜ ਮਿਲੀ ਹੋਵੇ, ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਸੁਖ ਹੋਣ, ਸਭ ਕਿਸਮ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਦਲੇ ਭੋਗ ਭੋਗਣ ਨੂੰ ਹੋਣ।
ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਸੋਇਨ ਚੰਦਨ ਸੁਗੰਧ ਲਾਇ ਮੋਤੀ ਹੀਰੇ ॥
garih so-in chandan suganDh laa-ay motee heeray.
One may possess mansions made of gold, studded with pearls and rubies, and plastered with fragrant sandalwood.
ਜੇ ਮੋਤੀ ਹੀਰਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਸੋਨੇ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਹੋਣ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਚੰਦਨ ਦੀ ਸੁਗੰਧੀ ਹੋਵੇ।
ਮਨ ਇਛੇ ਸੁਖ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਨਾਹਿ ਵਿਸੂਰੇ ॥
man ichhay sukh maandaa kichh naahi visooray.
One may relish the pleasures of his mind’s desires, and have no anxiety at all.
ਜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਨ-ਮੰਨੀਆਂ ਮੌਜਾਂ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੋਵੇ, ਤੇ ਕੋਈ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਝੌਰਾ ਨਾਹ ਹੋਵੇ,
ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਚਿਤਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਵਿਸਟਾ ਕੇ ਕੀਰੇ ॥
so parabh chit na aavee vistaa kay keeray.
But if one does not remember God, then that person is like a worm of filth.
ਪਰ ਜੇ ਇਹ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਯਾਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਓਹ ਗੰਦਗੀ ਦੇ ਕੀੜੇ ਵਰਗਾ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਨ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਕਿਤੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਮਨੁ ਧੀਰੇ ॥੬॥
bin har naam na saaNt ho-ay kit biDh man Dheeray. ||6||
Without meditation on God’s Name, bliss is not achieved and the mind is not at peace? ||6||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ, ਹੋਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਭੀ ਮਨ ਧੀਰਜ ਨਹੀਂ ਫੜਦਾ ॥੬॥

ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਬਿਰਹੰ ਖੋਜੰਤ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਦਹ ਦਿਸਹ ॥
charan kamal birahaN khojant bairaagee dah disah.
Feeling the pangs of separation, the lover of God’s immaculate Name wanders around in all directions in His search.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜਨ ਦੀ ਖਿੱਚ ਵਿਚ ਦਸੀਂ ਪਾਸੀਂ ਭੌਂਦਾ ਹੈ.
ਤਿਆਗੰਤ ਕਪਟ ਰੂਪ ਮਾਇਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਰੂਪ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਮਹ ॥੧॥
ti-aagant kapat roop maa-i-aa naanak aanand roop saaDh sangmah. ||1||
O’ Nanak, he renounces the deceptive illusion of Maya, and joins the blissful company of saintly people. ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਛਲ-ਰੂਪ ਮਾਇਆ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਆਨੰਦ-ਰੂਪ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ॥੧॥
ਮਨਿ ਸਾਂਈ ਮੁਖਿ ਉਚਰਾ ਵਤਾ ਹਭੇ ਲੋਅ ॥
man saaN-ee mukh uchraa vataa habhay lo-a.
God is enshrined in my mind, from my tongue I chant His Name and I wander through all the worlds.
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਂਈ (ਦੀ ਯਾਦ) ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਮੂੰਹੋਂ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਉਚਾਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਚੱਕਰ ਲਾਉਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਭਿ ਅਡੰਬਰ ਕੂੜਿਆ ਸੁਣਿ ਜੀਵਾ ਸਚੀ ਸੋਇ ॥੨॥
naanak habh adambar koorhi-aa sun jeevaa sachee so-ay. ||2||
O’ Nanak, all ostentatious displays are false; I spiritually survive only by listening to God’s eternal praises.||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸਾਰੇ ਵਿਖਾਵੇ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਹਨ। ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਜੀਉਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੨॥

ਬਸਤਾ ਤੂਟੀ ਝੁੰਪੜੀ ਚੀਰ ਸਭਿ ਛਿੰਨਾ ॥
bastaa tootee jhumprhee cheer sabh chhinnaa.
Even if a person is residing in a shattered hut and all his clothes are tattered;
ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਟੁੱਟੀ ਹੋਈ ਕੁੱਲੀ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੋਵੇ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਕੱਪੜੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਟੇ ਹੋਏ ਹੋਣ,
ਜਾਤਿ ਨ ਪਤਿ ਨ ਆਦਰੋ ਉਦਿਆਨ ਭ੍ਰਮਿੰਨਾ ॥
jaat na pat na aadro udi-aan bharminnaa.
he may have no social status, no honor or respect, and he may be roaming in the wilderness;
ਨਾਹ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਉੱਚੀ ਜਾਤਿ ਹੋਵੇ, ਨਾਹ ਕੋਈ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਆਦਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੋਵੇ, ਤੇ ਉਹ ਉਜਾੜ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਹੋਵੇ
ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਨ ਇਠ ਧਨ ਰੂਪ ਹੀਣ ਕਿਛੁ ਸਾਕੁ ਨ ਸਿੰਨਾ ॥
mitar na ith Dhan roopheen kichh saak na sinnaa.
he may neither have any friends or beloved , and he may be without any wealth or beauty, any relative or acquaintance.
ਕੋਈ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਨਾਹ ਹੋਵੇ, ਨਾਹ ਧਨ ਹੀ ਹੋਵੇ, ਨਾਹ ਰੂਪ ਹੀ ਹੋਵੇ, ਤੇ ਕੋਈ ਸਾਕ ਸੈਣ ਭੀ ਨਾਹ ਹੋਵੇ,
ਰਾਜਾ ਸਗਲੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਕਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਨੁ ਭਿੰਨਾ ॥
raajaa saglee sarisat kaa har naam man bhinnaa.
But, if his mind is imbued with the love of God’s Name, then deem him as king of the entire universe.
ਜੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਭਿੱਜਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਰੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਦਾ ਰਾਜਾ ਸਮਝੋ।
ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਧੂੜਿ ਮਨੁ ਉਧਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਹੋਇ ਸੁਪ੍ਰਸੰਨਾ ॥੭॥
tis kee Dhoorh man uDhrai parabh ho-ay suparsannaa. ||7|
God is so pleased on him that just by performing humble service to that person, one’s mind is saved from the vices. ||7||
ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜੀ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਪਰਸੰਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੭॥

ਅਨਿਕ ਲੀਲਾ ਰਾਜ ਰਸ ਰੂਪੰ ਛਤ੍ਰ ਚਮਰ ਤਖਤ ਆਸਨੰ ॥
anik leelaa raaj ras roopaN chhatar chamar takhat aasnaN.
In this world there are myriad of amusements and opportunities for enjoying the power of a kingdom with its beauty, regal canopies and thrones to sit on.
ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਚੋਜ ਤਮਾਸ਼ੇ, ਰਾਜ ਦੀਆਂ ਮੌਜਾਂ, ਸੁੰਦਰਤਾ, (ਸਿਰ ਤੇ) ਛਤਰ ਚਉਰ, ਤੇ ਬੈਠਣ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਤਖ਼ਤ.
ਰਚੰਤਿ ਮੂੜ ਅਗਿਆਨ ਅੰਧਹ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੁਪਨ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਮਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
rachant moorh agi-aan anDhah naanak supan manorath maa-i-aa. ||1||
O’ Nanak, only the foolish and spiritually ignorant persons are engrossed in these worldly pleasures because these pleasures are false like dreams. ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਬੰਦੇ ਹੀ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਇਹ ਕੌਤਕ ਤਾਂ ਸੁਪਨੇ ਦੀਆਂ ਚੀਜ਼ਾਂ ਸਮਾਨ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
ਸੁਪਨੈ ਹਭਿ ਰੰਗ ਮਾਣਿਆ ਮਿਠਾ ਲਗੜਾ ਮੋਹੁ ॥
supnai habh rang maani-aa mithaa lagrhaa moh.
In a dream, one enjoys all sorts of pleasures and the emotional attachment seems so sweet.
ਸੁਫਨੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਸਮੂਹ ਸੁਆਦ ਭੋਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਿੱਠੀਆ ਲੱਗਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਹੂਣੀਆ ਸੁੰਦਰਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਧ੍ਰੋਹੁ ॥੨॥
naanak naam vihoonee-aa sundar maa-i-aa Dharoh. ||2||
O’ Nanak, without meditating on God’s Name, one is deceived by captivating Maya. ||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਸੁਹਣੇ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਕੇਵਲ ਇਕ ਛੱਲ-ਫਰੇਬ ਹਨ ॥੨॥

ਸੁਪਨੇ ਸੇਤੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਮੂਰਖਿ ਲਾਇਆ ॥
supnay saytee chit moorakh laa-i-aa.
The fool attaches his mind to the worldly things in a dream.
ਮੂਰਖ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਸੁਪਨੇ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਪਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਸਰੇ ਰਾਜ ਰਸ ਭੋਗ ਜਾਗਤ ਭਖਲਾਇਆ ॥
bisray raaj ras bhog jaagat bhakhlaa-i-aa.
Upon waking up, he feels baffled, because then all the power and enjoyment of pleasures disappear.
ਇਸ ਰਾਜ ਤੇ ਰਸਾਂ ਦੇ ਭੋਗਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਸਾਰ ਕੇ ਜਾਗਦਾ ਹੀ ਬਰੜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਰਜਾ ਗਈ ਵਿਹਾਇ ਧੰਧੈ ਧਾਇਆ ॥
aarjaa ga-ee vihaa-ay DhanDhai Dhaa-i-aa.
He passes his life chasing after worldly pursuits.
ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਧੰਧੇ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕਦੇ ਦੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਹੀ ਉਮਰ ਬੀਤ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਪੂਰਨ ਭਏ ਨ ਕਾਮ ਮੋਹਿਆ ਮਾਇਆ ॥
pooran bha-ay na kaam mohi-aa maa-i-aa.
Being lured by Maya, none of the objectives are accomplished.
ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਮੋਹੇ ਹੋਏ ਦੇ ਕੰਮ ਮੁੱਕਣ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੇ।
ਕਿਆ ਵੇਚਾਰਾ ਜੰਤੁ ਜਾ ਆਪਿ ਭੁਲਾਇਆ ॥੮॥
ki-aa vaychaaraa jant jaa aap bhulaa-i-aa. ||8||
What can the poor helpless being do when God Himself has deluded him? ||8||
ਵਿਚਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਭੀ ਕੀ ਵੱਸ? ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲੇਖੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ॥੮॥

ਬਸੰਤਿ ਸ੍ਵਰਗ ਲੋਕਹ ਜਿਤਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਿਥਵੀ ਨਵ ਖੰਡਣਹ ॥
basant savarag lokah jittay parithvee nav khandnah.
Even if some people may be living in heavenly realms and might conquer all the nine regions of the earth,
ਜੇ ਸੁਰਗ ਵਰਗੇ ਦੇਸ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦੇ ਹੋਣ, ਜੇ ਸਾਰੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਜਿੱਤ ਲੈਣ,
ਬਿਸਰੰਤ ਹਰਿ ਗੋਪਾਲਹ ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਉਦਿਆਨ ਭਰਮਣਹ ॥੧॥
bisrant har gopaalah naanak tay paraanee udi-aan bharamneh. ||1||
but if they forsake God of the universe, then, O Nanak, they are like wanderers a in the wilderness. ||1||
ਪਰ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਰੱਖਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਸਾਰ ਦੇਣ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਜੰਗਲ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
ਕਉਤਕ ਕੋਡ ਤਮਾਸਿਆ ਚਿਤਿ ਨ ਆਵਸੁ ਨਾਉ ॥
ka-utak kod tamaasi-aa chit na aavas naa-o.
If one is living in a place where he is enjoying myriads of plays but God’s Name doesn’t come into his mind,
ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਚੋਜ ਤਮਾਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਜੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚ (ਯਾਦ) ਨਾਹ ਰਹੇ,
ਨਾਨਕ ਕੋੜੀ ਨਰਕ ਬਰਾਬਰੇ ਉਜੜੁ ਸੋਈ ਥਾਉ ॥੨॥
naanak korhee narak baraabaray ujarh so-ee thaa-o. ||2||
then, O’ Nanak, consider that place as a wilderness and a terrible hell. ||2||
ਤਾਂ ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਥਾਂ ਉਜਾੜ ਸਮਝੋ, ਉਹ ਥਾਂ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਨਰਕ ਦੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਹੈ ॥੨॥

ਮਹਾ ਭਇਆਨ ਉਦਿਆਨ ਨਗਰ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨਿਆ ॥
mahaa bha-i-aan udi-aan nagar kar maani-aa.
This world is like a dreadful dense forest, but many people have deemed it comfortable like a city.
ਬੜੇ ਡਰਾਉਣੇ ਜੰਗਲ ਨੂੰ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੇ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੰਨ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ,
ਝੂਠ ਸਮਗ੍ਰੀ ਪੇਖਿ ਸਚੁ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਨਿਆ ॥
jhooth samagree paykh sach kar jaani-aa.
Seeing these perishable things, they have deemed them as everlasting.
ਇਹਨਾਂ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਮਝ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
