ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪੂਛਉ ਜਾਇ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਸਾ ਜੀਉ ॥
satgur poochha-o jaa-ay naam Dhi-aa-isaa jee-o.
I would go and ask from the true Guru and I would meditate on Naam.
ਮੈਂ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੁੱਛਾਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਾਂਗਾ।
ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈ ਸਾਚੁ ਚਵਾਈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਚੁ ਪਛਾਣਾ ॥
sach naam Dhi-aa-ee saach chavaa-ee gurmukh saach pachhaanaa.
By following the Guru’s teachings, I meditate on the eternal God’s Name, I sing His praises and realize Him.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਉਚਾਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਤੇ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਦੀਨਾ ਨਾਥੁ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣਾ ॥
deenaa naath da-i-aal niranjan an-din naam vakhaanaa.
I always recite the Name of that God who is support of the supportless, merciful and immaculate
ਮੈਂ ਹਰ ਰੋਜ਼ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੂੰਹੋਂ ਬੋਲਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਜੋ ਦੀਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਦਇਆ ਦਾ ਸੋਮਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਕਰਣੀ ਕਾਰ ਧੁਰਹੁ ਫੁਰਮਾਈ ਆਪਿ ਮੁਆ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਰੀ ॥
karnee kaar Dharahu furmaa-ee aap mu-aa man maaree.
The one whom God preordained the gift of meditation on Naam, by controlling his mind he eradicates his self-conceit.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਦਰਗਾਹੋਂ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਸਵੈ-ਹੰਗਤਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਚ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਹਾ ਰਸੁ ਮੀਠਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਨਾਮਿ ਨਿਵਾਰੀ ॥੫॥੨॥
naanak naam mahaa ras meethaa tarisnaa naam nivaaree. ||5||2||
O’ Nanak, Naam is the sweetest nectar of all; the fierce desires for worldly riches is quenched by meditating on Naam. ||5||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਨਾਮ ਹੋਰ ਸਭ ਰਸਾਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਤੇ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਹੈ, ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੫॥੨॥

Raag Dhanaasaree, Chhant, First Guru:
ਪਿਰ ਸੰਗਿ ਮੂਠੜੀਏ ਖਬਰਿ ਨ ਪਾਈਆ ਜੀਉ ॥
pir sang mooth-rhee-ay khabar na paa-ee-aa jee-o.
O’ the deluded soul-bride, your Husband-God is with you but you are not aware of Him.
ਹੇ ਠੱਗੀ ਗਈ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਏ! ਤੇਰਾ ਪਤੀ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਗੱਲ ਦੀ ਸਮਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਈ।
ਮਸਤਕਿ ਲਿਖਿਅੜਾ ਲੇਖੁ ਪੁਰਬਿ ਕਮਾਇਆ ਜੀਉ ॥
mastak likhi-arhaa laykh purab kamaa-i-aa jee-o.
This is because of your preordained destiny based on your past deeds.
ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਤੂੰ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਏ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਤੇਰੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਲੇਖ ਹੀ ਅਜੇਹਾ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਗਿਆ
ਲੇਖੁ ਨ ਮਿਟਈ ਪੁਰਬਿ ਕਮਾਇਆ ਕਿਆ ਜਾਣਾ ਕਿਆ ਹੋਸੀ ॥
laykh na mit-ee purab kamaa-i-aa ki-aa jaanaa ki-aa hosee.
The preordained destiny cannot be erased and no one can know what would happen in the rest of this life.
ਮੱਥੇ ਤੇ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਲੇਖ ਮਿਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ। ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਸਮਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਆ ਸਕਦੀ ਕਿ ਸਾਡੇ ਆਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਚ ਕੀਹ ਵਾਪਰੇਗੀ।
ਗੁਣੀ ਅਚਾਰਿ ਨਹੀ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੀ ਅਵਗੁਣ ਬਹਿ ਬਹਿ ਰੋਸੀ ॥
gunee achaar nahee rang raatee avgun bahi bahi rosee.
You have not adopted a virtuous lifestyle and you are not imbued with God’s love; you will always be in agony over your misdeeds.
ਤੂੰ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਨਹੀਂ, ਉੱਚੇ ਆਚਰਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਨਹੀਂ, ਤੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੀ ਨਹੀਂ, ਕੀਤੇ ਔਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਦੁਖੀ ਹੋਵੇਗੀ।
ਧਨੁ ਜੋਬਨੁ ਆਕ ਕੀ ਛਾਇਆ ਬਿਰਧਿ ਭਏ ਦਿਨ ਪੁੰਨਿਆ ॥
Dhan joban aak kee chhaa-i-aa biraDh bha-ay din punni-aa.
Just as worldly wealth and youth are short lived like the shade of a small plant; similarly very soon old age comes and the life ends.
ਧਨ ਤੇ ਜਵਾਨੀ ਅੱਕ ਦੇ ਬੂਟੇ ਦੀ ਛਾਂ ਵਰਗੇ ਹਨ, ਜਦੋਂ ਬੁੱਢਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਉਮਰ ਦੇ ਦਿਨ ਆਖ਼ਰ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਦੋਹਾਗਣਿ ਛੂਟੀ ਝੂਠਿ ਵਿਛੁੰਨਿਆ ॥੧॥
naanak naam binaa dohaagan chhootee jhooth vichhunni-aa. ||1||
O’ Nanak, without meditating on Naam, entrapped in the love for worldly riches, an unfortunate soul-bride becomes separated from the Husband-God. ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝ ਕੇ ਅਭਾਗਣ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਛੁੱਟੜ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਕੂੜੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਵਿਛੁੜ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਬੂਡੀ ਘਰੁ ਘਾਲਿਓ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਭਾਇ ਚਲੋ ॥
boodee ghar ghaali-o gur kai bhaa-ay chalo.
O’ soul-bride, engrossed in worldly riches, you have already destroyed your spiritual life; at least now live your life according to the Guru’s teachings.
ਹੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ) ਡੁੱਬੀ ਹੋਈਏ! ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਘਰ ਬਰਬਾਦ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, (ਹੁਣ ਤਾਂ ਜੀਵਨ-ਸਫ਼ਰ ਵਿਚ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਤੁਰ।
ਸਾਚਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਸੁਖਿ ਮਹਲੋ ॥
saachaa naam Dhi-aa-ay paavahi sukh mahlo.
Meditate on the eternal God’s Name with loving devotion and you would realize God’s presence in your heart and would dwell in spiritual peace.
ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ, ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਦਰ ਲੱਭ ਲਏਂਗੀ।
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਏ ਤਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ਪੇਈਅੜੈ ਦਿਨ ਚਾਰੇ ॥
har naam Dhi-aa-ay taa sukh paa-ay pay-ee-arhai din chaaray.
The bride-soul attains celestial peace only when she meditates on God’s Name with loving devotion; our stay in this world is only for a few days.
ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਦੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਤਾਂ ਚਾਰ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਵਾਸਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਇ ਬਹੈ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਏ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਲਿ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥
nij ghar jaa-ay bahai sach paa-ay an-din naal pi-aaray.
Such a bride-soul dwells peacefully in her heart where she realizes the eternal God and always remains with her beloved God.
ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ)ਆਪਣੇ ਅਸਲੀ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਕੇ ਟਿਕੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਹਰ ਰੋਜ਼ (ਭਾਵ, ਸਦਾ ਹੀ) ਉਸ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਵਿਣੁ ਭਗਤੀ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸੁ ਨ ਹੋਵੀ ਸੁਣਿਅਹੁ ਲੋਕ ਸਬਾਏ ॥
vin bhagtee ghar vaas na hovee suni-ahu lok sabaa-ay.
O’ all people listen, without loving devotion to God, the mind cannot steadily stay within and keeps wandering around.
ਹੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਲੋਕੋ! ਸੁਣ ਲਵੋ, ਭਗਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਮਨ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਹੀ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ) ਅੰਤਰ ਆਤਮੇ ਟਿਕਾਉ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੈ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਸੀ ਤਾ ਪਿਰੁ ਪਾਏ ਰਾਤੀ ਸਾਚੈ ਨਾਏ ॥੨॥
naanak sarsee taa pir paa-ay raatee saachai naa-ay. ||2||
O’ Nanak, imbued with the eternal God’s Name, she enjoys the divine bliss and unites with her Husband-God. ||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਦੋਂ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਤਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਰਸ ਮਾਣਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਪਿਰੁ ਧਨ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਾ ਪਿਰ ਭਾਵੈ ਨਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥
pir Dhan bhaavai taa pir bhaavai naaree jee-o.
When the Husband-God is pleasing to the soul-bride, then that soul-bride becomes dear to the Husband-God.
ਜਦੋਂ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਪਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਜੀਵ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਲੱਗਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਰੰਗਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਰਾਤੀ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥
rang pareetam raatee gur kai sabad veechaaree jee-o.
Imbued with the love of her beloved-God and attuned to the Guru’s word, she starts to contemplate and understand the divine word
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੀ ਹੋਈ ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਵਿਚਾਰਵਾਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ਨਾਹ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਨਿਵਿ ਨਿਵਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰੇਈ ॥
gur sabad veechaaree naah pi-aaree niv niv bhagat karay-ee.
The soul-bride who reflects on the Guru’s word becomes dear to her Husband-God and in deep humility, she lovingly worships Him.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦਾ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਉਹ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਨਿਊਂ ਨਿਊਂ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਜਲਾਏ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਰਸ ਮਹਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਕਰੇਈ ॥
maa-i-aa moh jalaa-ay pareetam ras meh rang karay-ee.
Her beloved-God burns away her love for worldly riches and power, immersed in His love, she enjoys the bliss of His union.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਸਾੜ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਵਿਚ ਭਿੱਜ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਲੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਾਚੇ ਸੇਤੀ ਰੰਗਿ ਰੰਗੇਤੀ ਲਾਲ ਭਈ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਰੀ ॥
parabh saachay saytee rang rangaytee laal bha-ee man maaree.
Imbued with the eternal God’s love, she conquers her mind and her life becomes beauteous, filled with love.
ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ (ਜੁੜ ਕੇ) ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੀਜ ਕੇ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਚਿ ਵਸੀ ਸੋਹਾਗਣਿ ਪਿਰ ਸਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਪਿਆਰੀ ॥੩॥
naanak saach vasee sohagan pir si-o pareet pi-aaree. ||3||
O’ Nanak, always attuned to the eternal God, the fortunate soul-bride loves her Husband-God and becomes His beloved. ||3||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕੀ ਹੋਈ ਸੁਭਾਗ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪਤੀ ਦੀ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਪਿਰ ਘਰਿ ਸੋਹੈ ਨਾਰਿ ਜੇ ਪਿਰ ਭਾਵਏ ਜੀਉ ॥
pir ghar sohai naar jay pir bhaav-ay jee-o.
The soul-bride looks beautiful in Husband-God’s presence, only if she is pleasing to Him.
ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਪਸੰਦ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਝੂਠੇ ਵੈਣ ਚਵੇ ਕਾਮਿ ਨ ਆਵਏ ਜੀਉ ॥
jhoothay vain chavay kaam na aav-ay jee-o.
Empty words devoid of love serve no purpose.
ਝੂਠੇ ਸ਼ਬਦਾਂ ਦਾ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਕਿਸੇ ਕੰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ।
ਝੂਠੁ ਅਲਾਵੈ ਕਾਮਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਨਾ ਪਿਰੁ ਦੇਖੈ ਨੈਣੀ ॥
jhooth alaavai kaam na aavai naa pir daykhai nainee.
Her lies are of no use, she is unable to behold her Husband-God with her eyes.
ਝੂਠੇ ਬੋਲ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਕੰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੇ, ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਵੇਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀ।
ਅਵਗੁਣਿਆਰੀ ਕੰਤਿ ਵਿਸਾਰੀ ਛੂਟੀ ਵਿਧਣ ਰੈਣੀ ॥
avguni-aaree kant visaaree chhootee viDhan rainee.
Such an unvirtuous soul-bride forsaken by her Husband-God passes her life in agony.
ਉਸ ਔਗੁਣ-ਭਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਤਿਆਗ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਛੁੱਟੜ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੀ ਰਾਤ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਲੰਘਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਮਾਨੈ ਫਾਹੀ ਫਾਥੀ ਸਾ ਧਨ ਮਹਲੁ ਨ ਪਾਏ ॥
gur sabad na maanai faahee faathee saa Dhan mahal na paa-ay.
The soul-bride who does not follow the Guru’s word, entrapped in the bonds of worldly riches, she cannot realize Husband-God’s presence.
ਜੇਹੜੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਤੇ ਭਰੋਸਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਰੱਖਦੀ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਫਾਹੀ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੀ ਹੋਈ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਦਾ ਦਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭ ਸਕਦੀ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਪੇ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥੪॥
naanak aapay aap pachhaanai gurmukh sahj samaa-ay. ||4||
O’ Nanak, by following the Guru’s teachings, if she understands her own self, then she merges in celestial peace. ||4||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਜੇ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਲਵੇ, ਤਦ ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਧਨ ਸੋਹਾਗਣਿ ਨਾਰਿ ਜਿਨਿ ਪਿਰੁ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਜੀਉ ॥
Dhan sohagan naar jin pir jaani-aa jee-o.
Blessed and fortunate is that soul-bride who has realized her Husband-God.
ਉਹ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਮੁਬਾਰਕ ਹੈ ਚੰਗੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ ਲਈ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੂੜਿਆਰਿ ਕੂੜੁ ਕਮਾਣਿਆ ਜੀਉ ॥
naam binaa koorhi-aar koorh kamaani-aa jee-o.
But the one who is without Naam is false and she earns only worldly riches.
ਪਰ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਭੁਲਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਕੂੜ ਦੀ ਵਣਜਾਰਨ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਕੂੜ ਹੀ ਕਮਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ
ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਸੁਹਾਵੀ ਸਾਚੇ ਭਾਵੀ ਭਾਇ ਭਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਰਾਤੀ ॥
har bhagat suhaavee saachay bhaavee bhaa-ay bhagat parabh raatee.
The bride-soul who embellishes her life through the devotional worship of God, is pleasing to God; she remains immersed in the loving adoration of God.
ਜੇਹੜੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਬਣਾ ਲੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਪਿਰੁ ਰਲੀਆਲਾ ਜੋਬਨਿ ਬਾਲਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਰਾਵੇ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੀ ॥
pir ralee-aalaa joban baalaa tis raavay rang raatee.
Imbued with His love, the soul-bride always enjoys the company of her Husband-God who is the source of bliss and is young forever
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੀ ਹੋਈ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਣਦੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਆਨੰਦ ਦਾ ਸੋਮਾ ਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਜਵਾਨ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਵਿਗਾਸੀ ਸਹੁ ਰਾਵਾਸੀ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਗੁਣਕਾਰੀ ॥
gur sabad vigaasee saho raavaasee fal paa-i-aa gunkaaree.
The bride soul, spiritually delighted through the Guru’s word, as a reward, she enjoys the union of her Husband-God, the bestower of virtues.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਖਿੜੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਾਲੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦੀ ਹੈ,ਤੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹਰੀ ਫਲ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਚੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਪਿਰ ਘਰਿ ਸੋਹੈ ਨਾਰੀ ॥੫॥੩॥
naanak saach milai vadi-aa-ee pir ghar sohai naaree. ||5||3||
O’ Nanak, she is united with the eternal God; she receives honor and looks beautiful in God’s presence.||5||3||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਦਰ ਤੇ) ਆਦਰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੫॥੩॥
