ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਪੈ ॥
charan kamal jaa kaa man raapai.
One whose mind is imbued with the love of God’s immaculate Name,
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ (ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ) ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸੋਗ ਅਗਨਿ ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਨ ਬਿਆਪੈ ॥੨॥
sog agan tis jan na bi-aapai. ||2||
is not troubled by the ferocious worries of any kind. ||2||
ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦੀ ॥੨॥
ਸਾਗਰੁ ਤਰਿਆ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗੇ ॥
saagar tari-aa saaDhoo sangay.
O’ my friend, the dreadful world-ocean of vices can be crossed over in the company of the Guru,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ (ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗੇ ॥੩॥
nirbha-o naam japahu har rangay. ||3||
therefore, lovingly meditate on the Name of the fearless God . ||3||
ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਨਾਲ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆ ਕਰੋ ॥੩॥
ਪਰ ਧਨ ਦੋਖ ਕਿਛੁ ਪਾਪ ਨ ਫੇੜੇ ॥
par Dhan dokh kichh paap na fayrhay.
One who does not steal the wealth of others and does not commit evil deeds,
ਜੋ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਦੌਲਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੈਂਦਾ, ਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਕੁਕਰਮ ਤੇ ਗੁਨਾਹ ਕਮਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਜਮ ਜੰਦਾਰੁ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਨੇੜੇ ॥੪॥
jam jandaar na aavai nayrhay. ||4||
the dreadful demon of death doesn’t even come near him. ||4||
ਭਿਆਨਕ ਜਮ (ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਡਰ) ਉਸ ਦੇ ਭੀ ਨੇੜੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਢੁਕਦਾ ॥੪॥
ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਅਗਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਆਪਿ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥
tarisnaa agan parabh aap bujhaa-ee.
God Himself quenches the ferocious desires.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਖਾਹਿਸ਼ਾਂ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਨੂੰ ਬੁਝਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਨਾਨਕ ਉਧਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥੫॥੧॥੫੫॥
naanak uDhray parabh sarnaa-ee. ||5||1||55||
O’ Nanak, people are saved from those vices by seeking God’s refuge. ||5||1||55||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜੀਵ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਬਚ ਨਿਕਲਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੫॥੧॥੫੫॥

Raag Dhanaasaree, Fifth Guru:
ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਭਈ ਸਚੁ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਖਾਇਆ ॥ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਰਸਨਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥੧॥
taripat bha-ee sach bhojan khaa-i-aa. man tan rasnaa naam Dhi-aa-i-aa. ||1||
He who utters God’s Name with his tongue, mind and heart, feels as if he has partaken a true meal, which has fully satiated him from Maya. ||1||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ, ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ, ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ (ਦੀ) ਖ਼ੁਰਾਕ ਖਾਣੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਵਲੋਂ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,॥੧॥
ਜੀਵਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਵਨਾ ॥ ਜੀਵਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jeevnaa har jeevnaa. jeevan har jap saaDhsang. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O’ My friend, meditate on God’s Name in the holy congregation; this only is the righteous living and a true life. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ (ਬੈਠ ਕੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆ ਕਰੋ ਇਹੀ ਹੈ ਅਸਲ ਜੀਵਨ, ਇਹੀ ਹੈ ਅਸਲ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗ਼ੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਅਨਿਕ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰੀ ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਓਢਾਏ ॥ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਏ ॥੨॥
anik parkaaree bastar odhaa-ay. an-din keertan har gun gaa-ay. ||2||
He who always sings praises of God, feels as if he has worn innumerable kinds of beautiful dresses. ||2||
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਮਾਨੋ ਕਈ ਕਿਸਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਵੰਨ ਸੁਵੰਨੇ ਕੱਪੜੇ ਪਹਿਨ ਲਏ ਹਨ ॥੨॥
ਹਸਤੀ ਰਥ ਅਸੁ ਅਸਵਾਰੀ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਨਿਹਾਰੀ ॥੩॥
hastee rath as asvaaree. har kaa maarag ridai nihaaree. ||3||
He who in his heart keeps visualizing the path to union with God, is experiencing as if he is riding elephants, chariots, and horses. ||3||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦਾ ਰਾਹ ਤੱਕਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਾਨੋ ਹਾਥੀ ਰਥਾਂ ਘੋੜਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਸਵਾਰੀ ਦਾ ਸੁਖ ਮਾਣ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਮਨ ਤਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਚਰਨ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥
man tan antar charan Dhi-aa-i-aa.
He who in his mind and heart has meditated on God’s immaculate Name,
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰਨਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ,
ਹਰਿ ਸੁਖ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੨॥੫੬॥
har sukh niDhaan naanak daas paa-i-aa. ||4||2||56||
O’ Nanak, that devotee has realized God, the treasure of bliss. ||4||2||56||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਸ ਦਾਸ ਨੇ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੨॥੫੬॥

Dhanaasree mehlaa 5.
Raag Dhanaasaree, Fifth Guru:
ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਚਰਨ ਜੀਅ ਕਾ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਾ ॥
gur kay charan jee-a kaa nistaaraa.
O’ my friends, that Guru’s words are the emancipator of the soul,
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨ ਜਿੰਦ ਨੂੰ ਮੁਕਤ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਸਮੁੰਦੁ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਤਾਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
samund saagar jin khin meh taaraa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
who ferries a person across the world-ocean of vices in an instant. ||1||Pause||
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਛਿਨ ਵਿਚ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਕੋਈ ਹੋਆ ਕ੍ਰਮ ਰਤੁ ਕੋਈ ਤੀਰਥ ਨਾਇਆ ॥
ko-ee ho-aa karam rat ko-ee tirath naa-i-aa.
Someone became the lover of ritualistic deeds while some other kept bathing at sacred shrines of pilgrimage;
ਕੋਈ ਕਰਮ-ਕਾਂਡ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮੀ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ; ਕੋਈ ਤੀਰਥੀਂ ਨਹਾਉਂਦਾ ਫਿਰਿਆ;
ਦਾਸੀ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥੧॥
daaseeN har kaa naam Dhi-aa-i-aa. ||1||
but God’s devotees have always meditated on Naam with loving devotion. ||1||
ਪਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਨੇ (ਸਦਾ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਬੰਧਨ ਕਾਟਨਹਾਰੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸਿਮਰੈ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥੨॥੩॥੫੭॥
banDhan kaatanhaar su-aamee. jan naanak simrai antarjaamee. ||2||3||57||
Devotee Nanak meditates on that Master-God, who is omniscient and is capable of breaking the worldly bonds. ||2||3||57||
ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਭ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਸਭ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਕੱਟਣ ਦੀ ਸਮਰਥਾ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥੩॥੫੭॥

ਕਿਤੈ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰਿ ਨ ਤੂਟਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ॥ ਦਾਸ ਤੇਰੇ ਕੀ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਰੀਤਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kitai parkaar na toota-o pareet. daas tayray kee nirmal reet. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O’ God, so that the love of Your devotees for You may not break in any way, they always keep their lifestyle immaculate. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਕਿਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਭੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਕਿਧਰੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਟੁੱਟ ਨਾਹ ਜਾਏ, ਇਸ ਲਈ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਹਿਣੀ-ਬਹਿਣੀ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਜੀਅ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਮਨ ਧਨ ਤੇ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥ ਹਉਮੈ ਬੰਧੁ ਹਰਿ ਦੇਵਣਹਾਰਾ ॥੧॥
jee-a paraan man Dhan tay pi-aaraa. ha-umai banDh har dayvanhaaraa. ||1||
O’ my friends, that God, who is capable of eradicating the ego, is more dear to the devotees than their life, breath, mind and wealth. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਨਾਲੋਂ, ਪ੍ਰਾਣਾਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ, ਮਨ ਨਾਲੋਂ, ਧਨ ਨਾਲੋਂ, ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਦਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਹਉਮੈ ਨੂੰ ਰੋਕਣ ਦੀ ਸਮਰਥਾ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਸਿਉ ਲਾਗਉ ਨੇਹੁ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਏਹ ॥੨॥੪॥੫੮॥
charan kamal si-o laaga-o nayhu. naanak kee baynantee ayh. ||2||4||58||
This alone is Nanak’s prayer, that he may remain imbued with God’s immaculate Name. ||2||4||58||
ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀ ਇਹੀ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹੇ ॥੨॥੪॥੫੮॥ ॥੨॥੪॥੫੮॥
ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik-oNkaar satgur parsaad.
One eternal God, realized by the grace of the of the true Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।

Raag Dhanasri, Ninth Guru:
ਕਾਹੇ ਰੇ ਬਨ ਖੋਜਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
kaahay ray ban khojan jaa-ee.
Why do you go looking in the forest?
ਤੂੰ (ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ) ਲੱਭਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਜੰਗਲਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਕਿਉਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ?
ਸਰਬ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ਸਦਾ ਅਲੇਪਾ ਤੋਹੀ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sarab nivaasee sadaa alaypaa tohee sang samaa-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
That God, who is all pervading but always detached from worldly affairs, is always there with you. ||1||Pause||
ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ, ਜੋ ਸਭ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਤੋਂ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਪੁਹਪ ਮਧਿ ਜਿਉ ਬਾਸੁ ਬਸਤੁ ਹੈ ਮੁਕਰ ਮਾਹਿ ਜੈਸੇ ਛਾਈ ॥
puhap maDh ji-o baas basat hai mukar maahi jaisay chhaa-ee.
Just as fragrance resides in a flower and reflection in the mirror,
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਫੁੱਲ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਗੰਧੀ ਵੱਸਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ੀਸ਼ੇ ਵਿਚ (ਸ਼ੀਸ਼ਾ ਵੇਖਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਦਾ) ਅਕਸ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਤੈਸੇ ਹੀ ਹਰਿ ਬਸੇ ਨਿਰੰਤਰਿ ਘਟ ਹੀ ਖੋਜਹੁ ਭਾਈ ॥੧॥
taisay hee har basay nirantar ghat hee khojahu bhaa-ee. ||1||
similarly God resides within all; O’ brothers, search Him in your heart itself. ||1||
ਤਿਵੇਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਇਕ-ਰਸ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਲੱਭ ॥੧॥
ਬਾਹਰਿ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਨਹੁ ਇਹੁ ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਬਤਾਈ ॥
baahar bheetar ayko jaanhu ih gur gi-aan bataa-ee.
The Guru has imparted this understanding that, realize the presence of the same one God both within you and outside in everything.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਇਹ ਦੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ (ਹਰ ਥਾਂ) ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਸਮਝੋ।
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਨੁ ਆਪਾ ਚੀਨੈ ਮਿਟੈ ਨ ਭ੍ਰਮ ਕੀ ਕਾਈ ॥੨॥੧॥
jan naanak bin aapaa cheenai mitai na bharam kee kaa-ee. ||2||1||
Devotee Nanak says, the moss of doubt from the mind does not go away without knowing one’s own self. ||2||1||
ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਪਣਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਪਰਖਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਮਨ ਉੱਤੋਂ) ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦਾ ਜਾਲਾ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੨॥੧॥

ਸਾਧੋ ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਭਰਮ ਭੁਲਾਨਾ ॥
saaDho ih jag bharam bhulaanaa.
O’ saintly people, this world is deluded by doubt.
ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਇਹ ਜਗਤ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ) ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ (ਪੈ ਕੇ) ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਕਾ ਸਿਮਰਨੁ ਛੋਡਿਆ ਮਾਇਆ ਹਾਥਿ ਬਿਕਾਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
raam naam kaa simran chhodi-aa maa-i-aa haath bikaanaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Instead of remembering God, the entire world is so engrossed with the love of Maya, as if it has sold itself to it. ||1||Pause||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਛੱਡੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਭਾਈ ਸੁਤ ਬਨਿਤਾ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਰਸਿ ਲਪਟਾਨਾ ॥
maat pitaa bhaa-ee sut banitaa taa kai ras laptaanaa.
The entire world is caught in the love for the family (mother, father, brother, son, wife).
