Dhanaasree mehlaa 4.
Raag Dhanasri, Fourth Guru:
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਬੂੰਦ ਭਏ ਹਰਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹਮ ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕ ਬਿਲਲ ਬਿਲਲਾਤੀ ॥
har har boond bha-ay har su-aamee ham chaatrik bilal billaatee.
O’ God, I am like the song-bird wailing for the unique life-saving drop of rain, May Your Name become that special drop for me.
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਹੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ! ਮੈਂ ਪਪੀਹਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ-ਬੂੰਦ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਤੜਫ਼ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ। (ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ), ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ (ਸ੍ਵਾਂਤੀ-) ਬੂੰਦ ਬਣ ਜਾਏ।
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅਪਨੀ ਮੁਖਿ ਦੇਵਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਮਖਾਤੀ ॥੧॥
har har kirpaa karahu parabh apnee mukh dayvhu har nimkhaatee. ||1||
O’ God, show Your mercy and just for an instant put this special drop of Naam in my mouth.||1||
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਆਪਣੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ, ਅੱਖ ਦੇ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਵਿਚ (ਆਪਣੀ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਸ੍ਵਾਂਤੀ) ਬੂੰਦ ਪਾ ਦੇ ॥੧॥
ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਰਹਿ ਨ ਸਕਉ ਇਕ ਰਾਤੀ ॥
har bin reh na saka-o ik raatee.
Without remembering God, I cannot spiritually survive even for a bit.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੈਂ ਰਤਾ ਭਰ ਸਮੇ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਰਹਿ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਜਿਉ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਮਲੈ ਅਮਲੀ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਈ ਹੈ ਤਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਮ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਤੀ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ji-o bin amlai amlee mar jaa-ee hai ti-o har bin ham mar jaatee. rahaa-o.
Just as an addict agonize without his drug, similarly I feel spiritually dead without remembering God. ||pause||
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਨਸ਼ੇ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਅਮਲੀ ਤੜਫ਼ ਉੱਠਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੈਂ ਘਬਰਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਤੁਮ ਹਰਿ ਸਰਵਰ ਅਤਿ ਅਗਾਹ ਹਮ ਲਹਿ ਨ ਸਕਹਿ ਅੰਤੁ ਮਾਤੀ ॥
tum har sarvar at agaah ham leh na sakahi ant maatee.
O’ God, You are an extremely unfathomable ocean of virtues, we cannot estimate even a trace of Your limits.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ (ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ) ਬੜਾ ਹੀ ਡੂੰਘਾ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਹੈਂ, ਅਸੀਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਡੂੰਘਾਈ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਰਤਾ ਭਰ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭ ਸਕਦੇ।
ਤੂ ਪਰੈ ਪਰੈ ਅਪਰੰਪਰੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਮਿਤਿ ਜਾਨਹੁ ਆਪਨ ਗਾਤੀ ॥੨॥
too parai parai aprampar su-aamee mit jaanhu aapan gaatee. ||2||
O’ Master-God, You are beyond our comprehension,You alone know Your state and extent. ||2||
ਹੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਤੂੰ ਪਰੇ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਹੈਂ।! ਤੂੰ ਕਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ ਤੇ ਕਿਤਨਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੈਂ-ਇਹ ਭੇਤ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈਂ ॥੨॥
ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿਓ ਗੁਰ ਰੰਗਿ ਚਲੂਲੈ ਰਾਤੀ ॥
har kay sant janaa har japi-o gur rang chaloolai raatee.
The humble saints of God meditate on God’s Name and are imbued with the deep crimson color of the Guru’s love.
ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਾਧੂ ਅਤੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਗੂੜ੍ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ।
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਬਨੀ ਅਤਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿਓ ਊਤਮ ਪਾਤੀ ॥੩॥
har har bhagat banee at sobhaa har japi-o ootam paatee. ||3||
They enshrine devotional worship of God in them; by meditating on God’s Name they attain great glory and the most sublime honor. ||3||
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਦਾ ਰੰਗ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਇਜ਼ਤ ਆਬਰੂ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਈ ॥੩॥
ਆਪੇ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਆਪੇ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਆਪਿ ਬਨਾਵੈ ਭਾਤੀ ॥
aapay thaakur aapay sayvak aap banaavai bhaatee.
He Himself is the Master and Himself the servant; He Himself creates the way for us to remember Him with loving devotion.
ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸੇਵਕ ਹੈ। ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਵਿਓਂਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਬਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਜਨੁ ਤੁਮਰੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਲਾਜ ਭਗਾਤੀ ॥੪॥੫॥
naanak jan tumree sarnaa-ee har raakho laaj bhagaatee. ||4||5||
Your devotee Nanak has come to Your refuge; O’ God protect and preserve the honor of Your devotees.||4||5||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰਾ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਇਆ ਹੈ। ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈਂ ॥੪॥੫॥

Raag Dhanasri, Fourth Guru:
ਕਲਿਜੁਗ ਕਾ ਧਰਮੁ ਕਹਹੁ ਤੁਮ ਭਾਈ ਕਿਵ ਛੂਟਹ ਹਮ ਛੁਟਕਾਕੀ ॥
kalijug kaa Dharam kahhu tum bhaa-ee kiv chhootah ham chhutkaakee.
O’ brothers, tell me the faith by which one may be freed from the vices; I seek freedom from the vices, how can I be freed?
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਧਰਮ ਦੱਸ ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂਵਿਚੋਂ ਬਚਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕੇ। ਮੈਂ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ। ਦੱਸ; ਕਿਵੇਂ ਬਚਾਂ?
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਪੁ ਬੇੜੀ ਹਰਿ ਤੁਲਹਾ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿਓ ਤਰੈ ਤਰਾਕੀ ॥੧॥
har har jap bayrhee har tulhaa har japi-o tarai taraakee. ||1||
Meditation on God’s Name is like a boat or a raft; one who remembers God becomes like a swimmer who swims across the world-ocean of vices.||1||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਜਾਪ ਬੇੜੀ ਹੈ,ਤੁਲਹਾ ਹੈ। ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆ ਉਹ ਤਾਰੂ ਬਣ ਕੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਹਰਿ ਜੀ ਲਾਜ ਰਖਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਕੀ ॥
har jee laaj rakhahu har jan kee.
O’ God, protect the honor of Your devotee.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ! ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਦੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਬਚਾ ਲੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਨੁ ਜਪਾਵਹੁ ਅਪਨਾ ਹਮ ਮਾਗੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਇਕਾਕੀ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
har har japan japaavhu apnaa ham maagee bhagat ikaakee. rahaa-o.
O’ God, please make me meditate on Your Name; I beg only for Your devotional worship. ||Pause||.
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣ ਦੀ ਸਮਰਥਾ ਦੇਹ। ਮੈਂ (ਤੇਰੇ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਤੇਰੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਦਾ ਦਾਨ ਮੰਗ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਸੇ ਹਰਿ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਜਿਨ ਜਪਿਓ ਹਰਿ ਬਚਨਾਕੀ ॥
har kay sayvak say har pi-aaray jin japi-o har bachnaakee.
Those who follow the Guru’s word and meditate on God’s Name are dear to Him.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਬਚਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆ, ਉਹ ਸੇਵਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਲੇਖਾ ਚਿਤ੍ਰ ਗੁਪਤਿ ਜੋ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸਭ ਛੂਟੀ ਜਮ ਕੀ ਬਾਕੀ ॥੨॥
laykhaa chitar gupat jo likhi-aa sabh chhootee jam kee baakee. ||2||
The account of their deeds written by the mythical angels, Chitr and Gupt, and the account with the demon of death are erased. ||2||
ਚਿੱਤਰ ਗੁਪਤ ਨੇ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਭੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ (ਦੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ) ਦਾ ਲੇਖ ਲਿਖ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਸੀ, ਧਰਮਰਾਜ ਦਾ ਉਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਹਿਸਾਬ ਹੀ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਪਿਓ ਮਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਲਗਿ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਸਾਧ ਜਨਾ ਕੀ ॥
har kay sant japi-o man har har lag sangat saaDh janaa kee.
Those saints of God who join the holy congregation and meditate on God’s Name in their minds;
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਾਧ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਬੈਠ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਜਾਪ ਕੀਤਾ;
ਦਿਨੀਅਰੁ ਸੂਰੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਅਗਨਿ ਬੁਝਾਨੀ ਸਿਵ ਚਰਿਓ ਚੰਦੁ ਚੰਦਾਕੀ ॥੩॥
dinee-ar soor tarisnaa agan bujhaanee siv chari-o chand chandaakee. ||3||
God, the emancipator manifests in them, as if the cooling moon has risen which has calmed their fierce desires and has put off the scorching sun of vices. ||3||
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਕੱਲਿਆਣ ਰੂਪ ਪ੍ਰਭੂਪਰਗਟ ਹੋ ਪਿਆ, ਮਾਨੋ) ਠੰਢਕ ਪੁਚਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਚੰਦ ਚੜ੍ਹ ਪਿਆ, ਜਿਸ ਨੇ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਬੁਝਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ; (ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦਾ) ਤਪਦਾ ਸੂਰਜ (ਸ਼ਾਂਤ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ) ॥੩॥
ਤੁਮ ਵਡ ਪੁਰਖ ਵਡ ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰ ਤੁਮ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਅਪਾਕੀ ॥
tum vad purakh vad agam agochar tum aapay aap apaakee.
O’ God, You are the supreme Being, inaccessible and beyond comprehension; You Yourself are pervading everywhere.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈਂ; ਤੂੰ ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਹੈਂ; ਗਿਆਨ-ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਤਕ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ। ਤੂੰ (ਹਰ ਥਾਂ) ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪ, ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪ ਹੈਂ।
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕੀਜੈ ਕਰਿ ਦਾਸਨਿ ਦਾਸ ਦਸਾਕੀ ॥੪॥੬॥
jan naanak ka-o parabh kirpaa keejai kar daasan daas dasaakee. ||4||6||
O’ God, show mercy on devotee Nanak and make him the humble servant of Your servants.||4||6||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਉਤੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ, ਤੇ, ਆਪਣੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਾਸ ਬਣਾ ਲੈ ॥੪॥੬॥

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

One eternal God,realized by the grace of the true Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ਮੁਰਾਰਿ ਰਮੋ ਰਮੁ ਮਨਮੋਹਨ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੀਨੇ ॥
ur Dhaar beechaar muraar ramo ram manmohan naam japeenay.
Enshrine God within your heart and contemplate Him and lovingly meditate on the Name of God, the enticer of hearts.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਟਿਕਾ ਕੇ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰ ਅਤੇ ਆਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਮੋਹਤ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ l
ਅਦ੍ਰਿਸਟੁ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਅਪਰੰਪਰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਕਰਿ ਦੀਨੇ ॥੧॥
adrist agochar aprampar su-aamee gur poorai pargat kar deenay. ||1||
The perfect Guru has revealed that God who is invisible with these eyes, who is incomprehensible and infinite.||1||
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਗਟ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਅਡਿੱਠ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਅਤੇ ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਰਾਮ ਪਾਰਸ ਚੰਦਨ ਹਮ ਕਾਸਟ ਲੋਸਟ ॥
raam paaras chandan ham kaasat losat.
God is like the mythical philosopher’s stone and we are like a piece of iron; God is like sandalwood tree while we are like a piece of ordinary wood.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਪਾਰਸ ਹੈ, ਅਸੀਂ ਜੀਵ ਲੋਹਾ ਹਾਂ। ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਚੰਦਨ ਹੈ, ਅਸੀਂ ਜੀਵ ਕਾਠ ਹਾਂ।
ਹਰਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਹਰੀ ਸਤਸੰਗੁ ਭਏ ਹਰਿ ਕੰਚਨੁ ਚੰਦਨੁ ਕੀਨੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
har sang haree satsang bha-ay har kanchan chandan keenay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
One who realizes God in the holy congregation, He transforms him from an ordinary person into a true devotee like transforming Iron to gold and ordinary wood to sandalwood. ||1||pause||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਸਤਸੰਗ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਲੋਹੇ ਤੋਂ) ਸੋਨਾ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਕਾਠ ਤੋਂ) ਚੰਦਨ ਬਣਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਨਵ ਛਿਅ ਖਟੁ ਬੋਲਹਿ ਮੁਖ ਆਗਰ ਮੇਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਇਵ ਨ ਪਤੀਨੇ ॥
nav chhi-a khat boleh mukh aagar mayraa har parabh iv na pateenay.
One may recite the nine grammars and the six shaastras (scriptures), but my God is not pleased by this.
ਭਾਵੇਂ ਕੋਈ ਨੌਂ ਵਿਆਕਰਣ, ਛੇ ਸ਼ਾਸਤਰ ਮੂੰਹ-ਜ਼ਬਾਨੀ ਪਿਆ ਬੋਲੇ, ਪਰ ਮੇਰਾ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਪਰਸੰਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ।
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਸਦ ਧਿਆਵਹੁ ਇਉ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਭੀਨੇ ॥੨॥੧॥੭॥
jan naanak har hirdai sad Dhi-aavahu i-o har parabh mayraa bheenay. ||2||1||7|
O’ Nanak, always lovingly contemplate and meditate on God in your heart; this is how my God is pleased.||2||1||7||
ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ ਵਸਾਈ ਰੱਖੋ,ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥੧॥੭॥
