Siree Raag, by the Third Guru:
ਪੰਖੀ ਬਿਰਖਿ ਸੁਹਾਵੜਾ ਸਚੁ ਚੁਗੈ ਗੁਰ ਭਾਇ ॥
pankhee birakh suhaavrhaa sach chugai gur bhaa-ay.
The soul-bird in the beautiful tree of the body pecks at Truth with love for the Guru.
ਜੀਵ-ਪੰਛੀ ਇਸ ਸਰੀਰ-ਰੁੱਖ ਵਿਚ ਬੈਠਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਚੋਗਾ ਚੁਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਵੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਰਹੈ ਉਡੈ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥
har ras peevai sahj rahai udai na aavai jaa-ay.
He drinks the nectar of God’s Name, and resides in spiritual peace and does not wander around for Maya and is thus saved from the cycle of birth and death.
ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਰਸ ਪੀਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਮਾਇਕ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਚੋਗੇ ਵਲ) ਭਟਕਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਫਿਰਦਾ, (ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸਾ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧॥
nij ghar vaasaa paa-i-aa har har naam samaa-ay. ||1||
This way, he realizes God within himself. He remains absorbed in God’s Name.
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ (ਅਸਲ) ਘਰ ਵਿਚ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਨਿਵਾਸ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਮਨ ਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਇ ॥
man ray gur kee kaar kamaa-ay.
O’ my mind, follow the Guru’s teachings.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਰ।
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਜੇ ਚਲਹਿ ਤਾ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਚਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur kai bhaanai jay chaleh taa an-din raacheh har naa-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
If you act according to the Guru’s Will, you shall always remain immersed in God’s Name.
ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰੇਂਗਾ, ਤਾਂ ਤੂੰ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਰਹੇਂਗਾ l
ਪੰਖੀ ਬਿਰਖ ਸੁਹਾਵੜੇ ਊਡਹਿ ਚਹੁ ਦਿਸਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥
pankhee birakh suhaavrhay oodeh chahu dis jaahi.
The soul-birds who even look beautiful in their body-trees wanders around in all four directions in search of food (Maya)
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਜੀਵ-ਪੰਛੀ (ਆਪੋ ਆਪਣੇ) ਸਰੀਰ ਰੁੱਖਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ (ਬੈਠੇ ਵੇਖਣ ਨੂੰ ਤਾਂ) ਸੋਹਣੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ (ਪਰ ਮਾਇਕ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਚੋਗੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ) ਉੱਡਦੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਚੌਹੀਂ ਪਾਸੀਂ ਭਟਕਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਜੇਤਾ ਊਡਹਿ ਦੁਖ ਘਣੇ ਨਿਤ ਦਾਝਹਿ ਤੈ ਬਿਲਲਾਹਿ ॥
jaytaa oodeh dukh ghanay nit daajheh tai billaahi.
The more they wander around, the more they suffer and burn in worldly desires and bewail.
ਉਹ ਜਿਤਨਾ ਹੀ (ਚੋਗੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ) ਉੱਡਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਤਨਾ ਹੀ ਵਧੀਕ ਦੁੱਖ ਸਹਾਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸਦਾ ਖਿੱਝਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਵਿਲਕਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਮਹਲੁ ਨ ਜਾਪਈ ਨਾ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਫਲ ਪਾਹਿ ॥੨॥
bin gur mahal na jaap-ee naa amrit fal paahi. ||2||
Without the Guru’s teachings, they do not find God’s presence in their heart, and they do not obtain the Ambrosial Fruit of God’s Name.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ) ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਨਾਹ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਫਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ l
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਹਰੀਆਵਲਾ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥
gurmukh barahm haree-aavlaa saachai sahj subhaa-ay.
The Guru’s follower is like God’s evergreen tree. he always remain absorbed in His love and devotion in a state of intuitive peace and poise.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ, ਮਾਨੋ, ਇਕ ਹਰਾ-ਭਰਾ ਰੁੱਖ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਚ ਮਗਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਾਖਾ ਤੀਨਿ ਨਿਵਾਰੀਆ ਏਕ ਸਬਦਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥
saakhaa teen nivaaree-aa ayk sabad liv laa-ay
By always remaining immersed in God’s praises, he conquers all the three modes of Maya (vice, virtues and power).
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਤਿੰਨ ਰੂਪ-ਟਹਣੀਆਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲਈਆਂ ਹੋਈਆਂ ਹਨ।
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਫਲੁ ਹਰਿ ਏਕੁ ਹੈ ਆਪੇ ਦੇਇ ਖਵਾਇ ॥੩॥
amrit fal har ayk hai aapay day-ay khavaa-ay. ||3||
God’s Name alone is the Ambrosial Fruit, He Himself blesses the mortal with It.
ਕੇਵਲ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਮਈ ਮੇਵਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਖਾਣ ਲਈ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਊਭੇ ਸੁਕਿ ਗਏ ਨਾ ਫਲੁ ਤਿੰਨਾ ਛਾਉ ॥
manmukh oobhay suk ga-ay naa fal tinnaa chhaa-o.
The self-willed people are of no help to anybody. They are like those trees which wither away standing; they neither bear fruit nor yield Shade.
(ਪਰ) ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ, ਮਾਨੋ, ਉਹ ਰੁੱਖ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਖਲੋਤੇ ਖਲੋਤੇ ਹੀ ਸੁੱਕ ਗਏ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਹ ਹੀ ਫਲ ਲਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਨਾਹ ਹੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਛਾਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, (ਭਾਵ, ਨਾਹ ਹੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਪਾਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਨਾਹ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ)।
ਤਿੰਨਾ ਪਾਸਿ ਨ ਬੈਸੀਐ ਓਨਾ ਘਰੁ ਨ ਗਿਰਾਉ ॥
tinnaa paas na baisee-ai onaa ghar na giraa-o.
Don’t even bother to sit near them, they have no spiritual support.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਾਸ ਬੈਠਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਘਰ-ਘਾਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਆਤਮਕ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ)।
ਕਟੀਅਹਿ ਤੈ ਨਿਤ ਜਾਲੀਅਹਿ ਓਨਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਨਾਉ ॥੪॥
katee-ah tai nit jaalee-ah onaa sabad na naa-o. ||4||
They always remain unhappy and miserable, they have neither the Guru’s word, nor God’s Name.
ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਵੱਢੇ ਤੇ ਸਾੜੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਦੁਖੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ)। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੱਲੇ ਨਾਂ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ।
ਹੁਕਮੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵਣੇ ਪਇਐ ਕਿਰਤਿ ਫਿਰਾਉ ॥
hukmay karam kamaavnay pa-i-ai kirat firaa-o.
They act according to God’s command and wander in the cycles of birth and death, in accordance with their destiny based on the past deeds.
ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੂਰਬਲੇ ਅਮਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਅਨੂਕੂਲ ਭਟਕਦੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਹੁਕਮੇ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਦੇਖਣਾ ਜਹ ਭੇਜਹਿ ਤਹ ਜਾਉ ॥
hukmay darsan daykh-naa jah bhayjeh tah jaa-o.
While others by God’s Command, are Blessed with His Vision. They live in obedience to God’s will.
ਤੇਰੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੀ ਕਈ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿੱਧਰ ਤੂੰ ਭੇਜਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਉਧਰ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣਾ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹੁਕਮੇ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਉ ॥੫॥
hukmay har har man vasai hukmay sach samaa-o. ||5||
By Your Command, God dwells within their minds; by Your Command they remain merged in Truth.
ਤੇਰੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੀ ਕਈ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਤੇਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇਰੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਸਰੂਪ ਵਿਚ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਲੀਨਤਾ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈl
ਹੁਕਮੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਬਪੁੜੇ ਭੂਲੇ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਗਵਾਰ ॥
hukam na jaaneh bapurhay bhoolay fireh gavaar.
The wretched people do not understand God’s Will; these ignorants wander around lost in doubts.
ਕਈ ਐਸੇ ਵਿਚਾਰੇ ਮੂਰਖ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਦੇ, ਉਹ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ) ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਭਟਕਦੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਮਨਹਠਿ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵਦੇ ਨਿਤ ਨਿਤ ਹੋਹਿ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥
manhath karam kamaavday nit nit hohi khu-aar.
They go about their business stubborn-mindedly; each and every day they suffer disgrace and distress.
ਚਿੱਤ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੱਦ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਸਦੀਵ ਤੇ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਹੀ ਬੇਇਜ਼ਤ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਨਾ ਸਚਿ ਲਗੈ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥੬॥
antar saaNt na aavee naa sach lagai pi-aar. ||6||
They neither attain peace of mind, nor embrace love for God.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੀ, ਨਾਹ ਹੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਗੁਰਮੁਖੀਆ ਮੁਹ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਹੇਤਿ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥
gurmukhee-aa muh sohnay gur kai hayt pi-aar.
Beauteous are those Guru’s followers, who bear love and affection for the Guru.
ਸੁੰਦਰ ਹਨ ਚਿਹਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਦੇ, ਜੋ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਤੇ ਮੁਹੱਬਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸਚੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਸਚਿ ਰਤੇ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਸਚਿਆਰ ॥
sachee bhagtee sach ratay dar sachai sachiaar.
Through true devotional worship, they are imbued with Truth; and are judged True at God’s court.
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਅਸਲੀ ਉਪਾਸ਼ਨਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸੱਚ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗੀਜੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਉਤੇ ਉਹ ਸੱਚੇ ਪਾਏ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਆਏ ਸੇ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ਹੈ ਸਭ ਕੁਲ ਕਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਉਧਾਰੁ ॥੭॥
aa-ay say parvaan hai sabh kul kaa karahi uDhaar. ||7||
Blessed is their coming into the world, because they not only save themselves but also save their entire lineage.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਆਉਣਾ ਕਬੂਲ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਕੁਲ ਦਾ ਭੀ ਪਾਰ-ਉਤਾਰਾ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ l
ਸਭ ਨਦਰੀ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵਦੇ ਨਦਰੀ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥
sabh nadree karam kamaavday nadree baahar na ko-ay.
All do their deeds under God’s Glance of Grace; no one is outside His command.
ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੀ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ ਨਹੀਂ l
ਜੈਸੀ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਖੈ ਸਚਾ ਤੈਸਾ ਹੀ ਕੋ ਹੋਇ ॥
jaisee nadar kar daykhai sachaa taisaa hee ko ho-ay.
Whatever kind of Grace God bestows on any one, so does that person becomes.
ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਜੀਵ ਵਲ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਜੀਵ ਉਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਵਡਾਈਆ ਕਰਮਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੮॥੩॥੨੦॥
naanak naam vadaa-ee-aa karam paraapat ho-ay. ||8||3||20||
O’ Nanak, all honors come through devotion to God’s Name, which is obtained only by His Mercy.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਵਡਿਆਈਆਂ ਮਿਲਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਪਰ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ

Siree Raag, by the Third Guru:
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥
gurmukh naam Dhi-aa-ee-ai manmukh boojh na paa-ay.
The self-willed people do not understand that meditation on God’s Name can be done only through the Guru’s teachings.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ (ਹੀ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਿਆਂ (ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ) ਸੂਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦੀ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਦਾ ਮੁਖ ਊਜਲੇ ਹਰਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥
gurmukh sadaa mukh oojlay har vasi-aa man aa-ay.
The Guru’s followers are always honored (here and at God’s Court) because God has come to dwell within their minds.
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਰਖ਼ਰੂ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ
ਸਹਜੇ ਹੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਹਜੇ ਰਹੈ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧॥
sehjay hee sukh paa-ee-ai sehjay rahai samaa-ay. ||1||
Peace is obtained through intuitive understanding and intuitively they remain absorbed in God’s Name.
ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ। ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਅੰਦਰ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਭਾਈ ਰੇ ਦਾਸਨਿ ਦਾਸਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
bhaa-ee ray daasan daasaa ho-ay.
O’ brother, serve the God’s devotees with humility.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਦਾ ਸੇਵਕ ਬਣ,
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਗੁਰ ਭਗਤਿ ਹੈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਪਾਏ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur kee sayvaa gur bhagat hai virlaa paa-ay ko-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Service to the Guru is worship of the Guru by following his teachings. Rare are those who understand it.
ਇਹੀ ਹੈ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ (ਦੱਸੀ) ਸੇਵਾ, ਇਹ ਹੈ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ (ਦੱਸੀ) ਭਗਤੀ। (ਇਹ ਦਾਤਿ) ਕਿਸੇ ਵਿਰਲੇ (ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ) ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ
ਸਦਾ ਸੁਹਾਗੁ ਸੁਹਾਗਣੀ ਜੇ ਚਲਹਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭਾਇ ॥
sadaa suhaag suhaaganee jay chaleh satgur bhaa-ay.
The soul-bride always remains united with God, if she acts in accordance with the Will of the True Guru.
ਜੇਕਰ ਸੁਭਾਗਤਾ ਵਾਲੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਟੁਰੇ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ-ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਣੇਗੀ।
ਸਦਾ ਪਿਰੁ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਾ ਓਹੁ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
sadaa pir nihchal paa-ee-ai naa oh marai na jaa-ay.
She attains her Eternal, Husband-God, who never dies or goes away.
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ) ਉਹ ਪਤੀ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਦਾ ਅਟੱਲ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਨਾਹ ਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਨਾਹ ਕਦੇ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲੀ ਨਾ ਵੀਛੁੜੈ ਪਿਰ ਕੈ ਅੰਕਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੨॥
sabad milee naa veechhurhai pir kai ank samaa-ay. ||2||
United through the Guru’s teachings, she shall not be separated again. She is merged with her groom-God
ਜੇਹੜੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮੁੜ ਵਿੱਛੁੜਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ, ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਸਮਾਈ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ l
ਹਰਿ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਅਤਿ ਊਜਲਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਪਾਇਆ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
har nirmal at oojlaa bin gur paa-i-aa na jaa-ay.
God is extremely immaculate; He cannot be realized without the Guru’s word.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ-ਸਰੂਪ ਹੈ, ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ-ਸਰੂਪ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਪਾਠੁ ਪੜੈ ਨਾ ਬੂਝਈ ਭੇਖੀ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਇ ॥
paath parhai naa boojh-ee bhaykhee bharam bhulaa-ay.
God cannot be understood by reading scriptures; the deceitful pretenders remain deluded in doubt.
ਧਾਰਮਕ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਵਾਚਣ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਦਾ। ਦਿਖਾਵਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਸੰਦੇਹ ਅੰਦਰ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਏ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ।
ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਹਰਿ ਸਦਾ ਪਾਇਆ ਰਸਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੩॥
gurmatee har sadaa paa-i-aa rasnaa har ras samaa-ay. ||3||
God is realized only through the Guru’s Teachings, and one remains permeated with the Sublime Essence of God’s Name.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ) ਜੀਭ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਦ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥
maa-i-aa moh chukaa-i-aa gurmatee sahj subhaa-ay.
The person who follows the Guru’s instructions sheds love for worldly riches and intuitively remains imbued with God’s love.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਤੁਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਮੁਕਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
