Raag Sorath, Third Guru:
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਤੁਧੁ ਨੋ ਸਦਾ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਜਿਚਰੁ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਹੈ ਸਾਸਾ ॥
har jee-o tuDh no sadaa saalaahee pi-aaray jichar ghat antar hai saasaa.
O’ reverend God, bless me that I may always praise You as long as there is breath in my body.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ! (ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ) ਜਿਤਨਾ ਚਿਰ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਜਿੰਦ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ।
ਇਕੁ ਪਲੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਵਿਸਰਹਿ ਤੂ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਜਾਣਉ ਬਰਸ ਪਚਾਸਾ ॥
ik pal khin visrahi too su-aamee jaana-o baras pachaasaa.
O’ God, even if You are forsaken for a moment, I deem it as if fifty years have passed.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਮੈਥੋਂ ਇਕ ਪਲ-ਭਰ ਜਾਂ ਇਕ ਛਿਨ-ਭਰ ਵੀ ਵਿੱਸਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਮੈਂ ਉਹ ਵਕਤ ਪੰਜਾਹ ਸਾਲ ਬੀਤ ਗਏ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਹਮ ਮੂੜ ਮੁਗਧ ਸਦਾ ਸੇ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸਾ ॥੧॥
ham moorh mugaDh sadaa say bhaa-ee gur kai sabad pargaasaa. ||1||
O’ my brothers, forever we have been ignorant fools; but now, through the Guru’s word, the divine wisdom has become manifest in us. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਅਸੀਂ ਸਦਾ ਤੋਂ ਮੂਰਖ ਅੰਞਾਣ ਤੁਰੇ ਆ ਰਹੇ ਸਾਂ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਗਿਆਨ ਦਾ ਚਾਨਣ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਤੁਮ ਆਪੇ ਦੇਹੁ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥
har jee-o tum aapay dayh bujhaa-ee.
O’ reverend God, You Yourself bestow me the understanding to remember You.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ! ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣ ਦੀ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼।
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਤੁਧੁ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਵਾਰਿਆ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
har jee-o tuDh vitahu vaari-aa sad hee tayray naam vitahu bal jaa-ee. rahaa-o.
O’ reverend God, I am forever dedicated to You; yes, I am dedicated and devoted to Your Name. ||Pause||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ! ਮੈਂ ਤੈਥੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਵਾਂ, ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਵਾਂ ॥ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਹਮ ਸਬਦਿ ਮੁਏ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਾਰਿ ਜੀਵਾਲੇ ਭਾਈ ਸਬਦੇ ਹੀ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
ham sabad mu-ay sabad maar jeevaalay bhaa-ee sabday hee mukat paa-ee.
O’ brother, it is through the Guru’s word that we can eradicate our ego; through it the Guru rejuvenates us spiritually and we receive liberation from the vices.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਅਸੀਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਆਪਾ ਮਾਰ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਾਂ, ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਮਨ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ (ਗੁਰੂ) ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਹਾਸਲ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਸਬਦੇ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਆ ਹਰਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਮਨਿ ਆਈ ॥
sabday man tan nirmal ho-aa har vasi-aa man aa-ee.
Our mind and heart becomes immaculate by attuning to the Guru’s word, and we realize the presence of God within us.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਮਨ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਰੀਰ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਅੰਦਰ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਬਦੁ ਗੁਰ ਦਾਤਾ ਜਿਤੁ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੨॥
sabad gur daataa jit man raataa har si-o rahi-aa samaa-ee. ||2||
The Guru’s word is the bestower of Naam; when mind is imbued with it, then one remains merged in God. ||2||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਹੀ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਜਦੋਂ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਮਨ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਸੇ ਅੰਨੇ ਬੋਲੇ ਸੇ ਕਿਤੁ ਆਏ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥
sabad na jaaneh say annay bolay say kit aa-ay sansaaraa.
Those who do not understand the Guru’s word are spiritually blind and deaf; why did they come into the world?
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਂਦੇ ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਲੋਂ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਬੋਲੇ ਹਨ,ਉਹ ਕਿਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਏ ?
ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਜੰਮਹਿ ਵਾਰੋ ਵਾਰਾ ॥
har ras na paa-i-aa birthaa janam gavaa-i-aa jameh vaaro vaaraa.
They never receive the essence of God’s Name; they waste away their lives, and go through the birth and death over and over again.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਗਵਾ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਜੰਮਦੇ ਮਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਬਿਸਟਾ ਕੇ ਕੀੜੇ ਬਿਸਟਾ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਣੇ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੁਗਧ ਗੁਬਾਰਾ ॥੩॥
bistaa kay keerhay bistaa maahi samaanay manmukh mugaDh gubaaraa. ||3||
Just as the worms of filth remain in the filth, similarly the foolish self-willed persons remain consumed in the darkness of ignorance. ||3||
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਗੰਦ ਦੇ ਕੀੜੇ ਗੰਦ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮੂਰਖ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅਗਿਆਨਤਾ ਦੇ ਹਨੇਰੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੩॥
ਆਪੇ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਲਾਏ ਭਾਈ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥
aapay kar vaykhai maarag laa-ay bhaa-ee tis bin avar na ko-ee.
O’ brother, God Himself takes care of His creation, and puts them on the right Path; there is none other besides Him, who can do that.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ ਸਹੀ ਰਸਤੇ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਜੋ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਰਾਹ ਦੱਸ ਸਕੇ।
ਜੋ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸੁ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਮੇਟੈ ਭਾਈ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਹੋਈ ॥
jo Dhur likhi-aa so ko-ay na maytai bhaa-ee kartaa karay so ho-ee.
O’ brother, no one can erase that which is pre-ordained, whatever the Creator wills, comes to pass.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੋ ਮੁੱਢ ਤੋਂ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਮਿਟਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ, ਕਰਤਾਰ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸਿਆ ਮਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਭਾਈ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦੂਜਾ ਕੋਈ ॥੪॥੪॥
naanak naam vasi-aa man antar bhaa-ee avar na doojaa ko-ee. ||4||4||
O’ Nanak, the person who realizes the presence of Naam within the mind, then he does not look for anyone else. ||4||4||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜ਼ਿਸ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਦੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਨਾਮ ਟਿਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਫੇਰ ਉਹ ਹੋਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੂਸਰੇ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਵੇਖਦਾ ॥੪॥੪॥

Raag Sorath, Third Guru:
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਵਹਿ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣੇ ॥
gurmukh bhagat karahi parabh bhaaveh an-din naam vakhaanay.
Those, who engage in devotional worship by following the Guru’s teachings and always lovingly remember Naam, are pleasing to God.
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਭਗਤਾ ਕੀ ਸਾਰ ਕਰਹਿ ਆਪਿ ਰਾਖਹਿ ਜੋ ਤੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਣੇ ॥
bhagtaa kee saar karahi aap raakhahi jo tayrai man bhaanay.
O’ God, You cherish Your devotees and protect those who are pleasing to You.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਆਪ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਜਿਹੜੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਤੂ ਗੁਣਦਾਤਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਗੁਣ ਕਹਿ ਗੁਣੀ ਸਮਾਣੇ ॥੧॥
too gundaataa sabad pachhaataa gun kahi gunee samaanay. ||1||
O’ God, You are the giver of virtue, You are realized through the Guru’s word; uttering Your praises, devotees remain merged with the virtuous one (God). ||1||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਗੁਣ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਸਿਞਾਣਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਭਗਤ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਸਦਾ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥
man mayray har jee-o sadaa samaal.
O’ my mind, always remember the reverend God.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਚੇਤੇ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹੁ।
ਅੰਤ ਕਾਲਿ ਤੇਰਾ ਬੇਲੀ ਹੋਵੈ ਸਦਾ ਨਿਬਹੈ ਤੇਰੈ ਨਾਲਿ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ant kaal tayraa baylee hovai sadaa nibhai tayrai naal. rahaa-o.
At the very last moment of life, He alone would be your best friend; He shall always stand by you. ||Pause||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਚੇਤੇ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹੁ। ਅਖ਼ੀਰਲੇ ਸਮੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੀ ਤੇਰਾ ਮਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ,ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਦਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਨਿਬਾਹੇਗਾ ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਦੁਸਟ ਚਉਕੜੀ ਸਦਾ ਕੂੜੁ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਨਾ ਬੂਝਹਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੇ ॥
dusat cha-ukarhee sadaa koorh kamaaveh naa boojheh veechaaray.
The gang of the evil persons always practice falsehood; they never contemplate and understand,
ਪਰ, ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਭੈੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਭੈੜ ਹੀ ਕਮਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸਮਝਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ,
ਨਿੰਦਾ ਦੁਸਟੀ ਤੇ ਕਿਨਿ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਰਣਾਖਸ ਨਖਹਿ ਬਿਦਾਰੇ ॥
nindaa dustee tay kin fal paa-i-aa harnaakhas nakheh bidaaray.
that no one has received any reward through wickedness or slander. The king Harnakash was torn apart with the nails of Narsing (for torturing the devotee Prahlad),
ਕਿ ਭੈੜੀ ਨਿੰਦਿਆ ਤੋਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਕਦੇ ਚੰਗਾ ਫਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਇਆ। ਹਰਣਾਖਸ਼ (ਨੇ ਭਗਤ ਨੂੰ ਦੁੱਖ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ) ਨਹੁੰਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਚੀਰਿਆ ਗਿਆ।
ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦੁ ਜਨੁ ਸਦ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਲਏ ਉਬਾਰੇ ॥੨॥
par-hilaad jan sad har gun gaavai har jee-o la-ay ubaaray. ||2||
and devotee Prahlad, who always sang God’s praises, was saved by Him.||2||
ਭਗਤ ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਸੀ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਨਰਸਿੰਘ ਰੂਪ ਧਾਰ ਕੇ) ਬਚਾ ਲਿਆ ॥੨॥
ਆਪਸ ਕਉ ਬਹੁ ਭਲਾ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਮਤਿ ਨ ਕਾਈ ॥
aapas ka-o baho bhalaa kar jaaneh manmukh mat na kaa-ee.
The self-willed persons have absolutely no wisdom at all, but they consider themselves as very virtuous.
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਅਕਲ-ਸ਼ਊਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਤਾਂ ਚੰਗਾ ਸਮਝਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਸਾਧੂ ਜਨ ਕੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਵਿਆਪੇ ਜਾਸਨਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਈ ॥
saaDhoo jan kee nindaa vi-aapay jaasan janam gavaa-ee.
They indulge in the slander of saintly people and depart from the world, having wasted their lives.
ਉਹ ਨੇਕ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਿਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਰੁੱਝੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਗਵਾ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਦੇ ਚੇਤਹਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਅੰਤਿ ਗਏ ਪਛੁਤਾਈ ॥੩॥
raam naam kaday cheeteh naahee ant ga-ay pachhutaa-ee. ||3||
They never meditate on God’s Name and in the end they depart from this world regretting. ||3||
ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਕਦੇ ਯਾਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ, ਆਖ਼ਰ ਹੱਥ ਮਲਦੇ (ਜਗਤ ਤੋਂ) ਚਲੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੩॥
ਸਫਲੁ ਜਨਮੁ ਭਗਤਾ ਕਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਆਪਿ ਲਾਏ ॥
safal janam bhagtaa kaa keetaa gur sayvaa aap laa-ay.
God Himself makes the lives of His devotees successful by inspiring them to follow the Guru’s teachings.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਕਾਮਯਾਬ ਬਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਬਦੇ ਰਾਤੇ ਸਹਜੇ ਮਾਤੇ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਏ ॥
sabday raatay sehjay maatay an-din har gun gaa-ay.
Being imbued with the Guru’s word and remaining absorbed in a state of peace and poise, they always sing praises of God.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ, ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸੁ ਕਹੈ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਹਉ ਲਾਗਾ ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਪਾਏ ॥੪॥੫॥
naanak daas kahai baynantee ha-o laagaa tin kai paa-ay. ||4||5||
Devotee Nanak submits, that I humbly engage myself in their service. ||4||5||
ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ-ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨੀਂ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੪॥੫॥

Raag Sorath, Third Guru:
ਸੋ ਸਿਖੁ ਸਖਾ ਬੰਧਪੁ ਹੈ ਭਾਈ ਜਿ ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਭਾਣੇ ਵਿਚਿ ਆਵੈ ॥
so sikh sakhaa banDhap hai bhaa-ee je gur kay bhaanay vich aavai.
He alone is a Guru’s disciple, friend and relative, who submits to the Guru’s Will.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸਿੱਖ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਰਿਸ਼ਤੇਦਾਰ ਹੈ, ਜੇਹੜਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਪਣੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਜੋ ਚਲੈ ਭਾਈ ਵਿਛੁੜਿ ਚੋਟਾ ਖਾਵੈ ॥
aapnai bhaanai jo chalai bhaa-ee vichhurh chotaa khaavai.
O’ brother, one who follows his own will, gets separated from God and suffers.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ, ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਰਜ਼ੀ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਤੁਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਵਿੱਛੁੜ ਕੇ ਦੁਖ ਸਹਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੁਖੁ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ਭਾਈ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਪਛੋਤਾਵੈ ॥੧॥
bin satgur sukh kaday na paavai bhaa-ee fir fir pachhotaavai. ||1||
O’ brother, one never receives celestial peace without following the true Guru’s teachings and regrets again and again. ||1||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕਦੇ ਸੁਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ, ਤੇ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਕੇ ਪਛੁਤਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਦਾਸ ਸੁਹੇਲੇ ਭਾਈ ॥
har kay daas suhaylay bhaa-ee.
O’ brothers, the devotees of God dwell in peace.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਭਗਤ ਸੁਖੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਬਿਤੀਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
