ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਜਮ ਪੁਰਿ ਬਧੇ ਮਾਰੀਅਨਿ ਮੁਹਿ ਕਾਲੈ ਉਠਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥੧॥
naanak bin satgur sayvay jam pur baDhay maaree-an muhi kaalai uth jaahi. ||1||
O’ Nanak, without following the teachings of the True Guru, human beings depart from this world in great shame and are bound and beaten by demons in the world hereafter. ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਾਲੇ-ਮੂੰਹ (ਸੰਸਾਰ ਤੋਂ) ਤੁਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਜਮਪੁਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਬੱਧੇ ਹੋਏ ਮਾਰ ਖਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ, ਇਸ ਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਮੁਕਾਲਖ ਖੱਟਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਅਗਾਂਹ ਭੀ ਦੁਖੀ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ) ॥੧॥

First Guru:
ਜਾਲਉ ਐਸੀ ਰੀਤਿ ਜਿਤੁ ਮੈ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਵੀਸਰੈ ॥
jaala-o aisee reet jit mai pi-aaraa veesrai.
I would burn down those rituals that may lead me to forget The Beloved God.
ਮੈਂ ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਰੀਤ ਨੂੰ ਸਾੜ ਦਿਆਂ ਜਿਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਵਿਸਰ ਜਾਏ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਈ ਭਲੀ ਪਰੀਤਿ ਜਿਤੁ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਸੇਤੀ ਪਤਿ ਰਹੈ ॥੨॥
naanak saa-ee bhalee pareet jit saahib saytee pat rahai. ||2||
O Nanak, sublime is that love, which preserves my honor with God. ||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਉਹੋ ਹੀ ਚੰਗਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਖਸਮ ਨਾਲ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਬਣੀ ਰਹੇ ॥੨॥

Pauree:
ਹਰਿ ਇਕੋ ਦਾਤਾ ਸੇਵੀਐ ਹਰਿ ਇਕੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥
har iko daataa sayvee-ai har ik Dhi-aa-ee-ai.
We should follow the teachings of One God – Giver and Creator and should meditate on Him also.
ਇਕੋ ਦਾਤਾਰ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ, ਇਕੋ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਿਮਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਇਕੋ ਦਾਤਾ ਮੰਗੀਐ ਮਨ ਚਿੰਦਿਆ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
har iko daataa mangee-ai man chindi-aa paa-ee-ai.
We should request for what we desire from that Great Beneficent only, since He may fulfill our heart’s desire,
ਇਕੋ ਹਰੀ ਦਾਤਾਰ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਹੀ ਦਾਨ ਮੰਗਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਮਨ-ਮੰਗੀ ਮੁਰਾਦ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਏ,
ਜੇ ਦੂਜੇ ਪਾਸਹੁ ਮੰਗੀਐ ਤਾ ਲਾਜ ਮਰਾਈਐ ॥
jay doojay paashu mangee-ai taa laaj maraa-ee-ai.
it is better to die of shame rather than requesting someone other than One God.
ਜੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਮੰਗੀਏ ਤਾਂ ਸ਼ਰਮ ਨਾਲ ਮਰ ਜਾਈਏ (ਭਾਵ, ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਮੰਗਣ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਸ਼ਰਮ ਨਾਲ ਮਰ ਜਾਣਾ ਚੰਗਾ ਹੈ)।
ਜਿਨਿ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਕੀ ਸਭ ਭੁਖ ਗਵਾਈਐ ॥
jin sayvi-aa tin fal paa-i-aa tis jan kee sabh bhukh gavaa-ee-ai.
Whosoever has worshipped The One God, has received the fruit of God’s Name as a result; thus his hunger for worldly things is satisfied.
ਜਿਸ ਭੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਹਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਹੈ ਉਸੇ ਨੇ ਫਲ ਪਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤਿਨ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਵਾਰਿਆ ਜਿਨ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥੧੦॥
naanak tin vitahu vaari-aa jin an-din hirdai har naam Dhi-aa-ee-ai. ||10||
Therefore, Nanak is dedicated to those who meditate on God’s Name in their hearts day and night. ||10||
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਦਕੇ ਹੈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਤੋਂ, ਜੋ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧੦॥

Shalok, Third Guru:
ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾ ਕੰਉ ਆਪਿ ਤੁਠਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਆਪੇ ਲਇਅਨੁ ਜਨ ਲਾਇ ॥
bhagat janaa kaN-u aap tuthaa mayraa pi-aaraa aapay la-i-an jan laa-ay.
Beloved God Himself becomes gracious on His devotees, and on His own, He has engaged them into meditation upon His Name.
ਪਿਆਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਤੇ ਆਪ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੀ ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾ ਕਉ ਦਿਤੀਅਨੁ ਸਿਰਿ ਛਤੁ ਸਚਾ ਹਰਿ ਬਣਾਇ ॥
paatisaahee bhagat janaa ka-o ditee-an sir chhat sachaa har banaa-ay.
God has blessed His humble devotees with royalty by crowning them with respect and glory.
ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਤੇ ਸੱਚਾ ਛੱਤ੍ਰ ਝੁਲਾ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀ ਹੈ।
ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੀਏ ਨਿਰਮਲੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਇ ॥
sadaa sukhee-ay nirmalay satgur kee kaar kamaa-ay.
By following the teachings of the Guru, they become comfortable and immaculate forever.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੀਏ ਤੇ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਰਾਜੇ ਓਇ ਨ ਆਖੀਅਹਿ ਭਿੜਿ ਮਰਹਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੂਨੀ ਪਾਹਿ ॥
raajay o-ay na aakhee-ahi bhirh mareh fir joonee paahi.
They shouldn’t be called as the true kings who die fighting and then enter the cycle of reincarnation.
ਰਾਜੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਖੀਦਾ ਜੋ ਆਪੋ ਵਿਚ ਲੜ ਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਫਿਰ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਨਕੀ ਵਢੀ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਮੂਲਿ ਨ ਪਾਹਿ ॥੧॥
naanak vin naavai nakeeN vadheeN fireh sobhaa mool na paahi. ||1||
O’ Nanak, without meditating on Naam, they keep wandering shamelessly and they get no respect at all. ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਸੱਖਣੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਭੀ ਨਕ-ਵੱਢੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਕਦੇ ਸੋਭਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਂਦੇ ॥੧॥

Third Guru:
ਸੁਣਿ ਸਿਖਿਐ ਸਾਦੁ ਨ ਆਇਓ ਜਿਚਰੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ॥
sun sikhi-ai saad na aa-i-o jichar gurmukh sabad na laagai.
Just listening to the teachings of the Guru does not give any delight unless one attunes oneself to the Hymns of The Guru.
ਜਦ ਤਾਈਂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਜੁੜਦਾ ਤਦ ਤਾਈਂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਨਿਰੀ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਸੁਆਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਭਉ ਭਾਗੈ ॥
satgur sayvi-ai naam man vasai vichahu bharam bha-o bhaagai.
God’s Name is enshrined in the mind only by following the teachings of the True Guru and all the fear and doubt flee from within.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਨਾਮ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਭਰਮ ਤੇ ਡਰ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜੇਹਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨੋ ਜਾਣੈ ਤੇਹੋ ਹੋਵੈ ਤਾ ਸਚਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੈ ॥
jayhaa satgur no jaanai tayho hovai taa sach naam liv laagai.
When the person assumes the same virtues that he thinks the Guru has, then only he can attune himself with True Naam.
ਜਦੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਆਪ ਬਣ ਜਾਏ (ਭਾਵ, ਜਦੋਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਵਾਲੇ ਗੁਣ ਧਾਰਨ ਕਰੇ) ਤਦੋਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਬ੍ਰਿਤੀ ਸੱਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਿ ਸੋਹਨਿ ਆਗੈ ॥੨॥
naanak naam milai vadi-aa-ee har dar sohan aagai. ||2||
O’ Nanak, by meditating on God’s Name, such people are blessed with glory in this world, and they are honored hereafter in the presence of God. ||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਏਥੇ ਆਦਰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਹਰੀ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਦੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਉਹ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੨॥

ਗੁਰਸਿਖਾਂ ਮਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਹੈ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਜਣ ਆਵਹਿ ॥
gursikhaaN man har pareet hai gur poojan aavahi.
The mind of Guru’s disciples is filled with love for God and that is why they come to worship The Guru.
ਗੁਰਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ (ਉਸ ਪਿਆਰ ਦਾ ਸਦਕਾ ਉਹ) ਆਪਣੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਨ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਣੰਜਹਿ ਰੰਗ ਸਿਉ ਲਾਹਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਲੈ ਜਾਵਹਿ ॥
har naam vanaNjahi rang si-o laahaa har naam lai jaaveh.
With love and affection, they invest in God’s Name, and depart from here after reaping the benefit of Naam.
(ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਆ ਕੇ) ਪਿਆਰ ਨਾਲ ਹਰੀ-ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਵਪਾਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਹਰੀ-ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਲਾਭ ਖੱਟ ਕੇ ਲੈ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਗੁਰਸਿਖਾ ਕੇ ਮੁਖ ਉਜਲੇ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਭਾਵਹਿ ॥
gursikhaa kay mukh ujlay har dargeh bhaaveh.
Therefore, the Guru’s followers are recognized with honor, and are approved in the God’s presence.
(ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੇ) ਗੁਰਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਉਜਲੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਹਰੀ ਦੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਉਹ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਗੁਰੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਬੋਹਲੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਕਾ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਸਿਖ ਗੁਣ ਸਾਂਝ ਕਰਾਵਹਿ ॥
gur satgur bohal har naam kaa vadbhaagee sikh gun saaNjh karaaveh.
The True Guru is the treasure of God’s Name and the fortunate Guru’s followers only participate in the Guru’s virtues.
ਗੁਰੂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਬੋਹਲ ਹੈ, ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਆ ਕੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਭਿਆਲੀ ਪਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਤਿਨਾ ਗੁਰਸਿਖਾ ਕੰਉ ਹਉ ਵਾਰਿਆ ਜੋ ਬਹਦਿਆ ਉਠਦਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵਹਿ ॥੧੧॥
tinaa gursikhaa kaN-u ha-o vaari-aa jo bahdi-aa uth-di-aa har naam Dhi-aavahi. ||11||
Therefore, I am (a sacrifice) dedicated to those Guru’s disciples who in all situations, meditate on God’s Name. ||11||
ਸਦਕੇ ਹਾਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਗੁਰਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਤੋਂ, ਜੋ ਬਹਦਿਆਂ ਉਠਦਿਆਂ (ਭਾਵ, ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ) ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧੧॥

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥
naanak naam niDhaan hai gurmukh paa-i-aa jaa-ay.
O’ Nanak, God’s Name is a treasure, which can be realised only through the guidance of The Guru.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਨਾਮ (ਹੀ ਅਸਲ) ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਘਰਿ ਹੋਦੀ ਵਥੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਨੀ ਅੰਧੇ ਭਉਕਿ ਮੁਏ ਬਿਲਲਾਇ ॥੧॥
manmukh ghar hodee vath na jaannee anDhay bha-uk mu-ay billaa-ay. ||1||
However, in spite of the availability of this commodity in their heart, the blind self-conceited persons don’t recognize it, and die wailing and barking like dogs. ||1||
ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਮਨਮੁਖ (ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਰੂਪ) ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਹੁੰਦੀ (ਇਸ) ਵਸਤ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਛਾਣਦੇ, ਤੇ (ਬਾਹਰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪਿਛੇ) ਵਿਲਕਦੇ ਤੇ ਭਉਂਕਦੇ ਮਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥

Third Guru:
ਕੰਚਨ ਕਾਇਆ ਨਿਰਮਲੀ ਜੋ ਸਚਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਚਿ ਲਾਗੀ ॥
kanchan kaa-i-aa nirmalee jo sach naam sach laagee.
The human body, that is attuned to The Eternal God through His True Name, is pure like gold.
ਜੋ ਸਰੀਰ ਸੱਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਸੱਚੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸੋਨੇ ਵਰਗਾ ਸੁੱਧ ਹੈ।
ਨਿਰਮਲ ਜੋਤਿ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਭਉ ਭਾਗੀ ॥
nirmal jot niranjan paa-i-aa gurmukh bharam bha-o bhaagee.
Thus that person realises The Immaculate God with pure light and by Guru’s grace, his doubt and fear flee away.
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਜੋਤਿ (ਰੂਪ) ਮਾਇਆ ਤੋਂ ਰਹਿਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਭਰਮ ਤੇ ਡਰ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ॥੨॥
naanak gurmukh sadaa sukh paavahi an-din har bairaagee. ||2||
O’ Nanak, the Guru’s followers always rejoice in peace since being in love with God they remain detached from the world day and night. ||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਵੈਰਾਗੀ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੨॥

ਸੇ ਗੁਰਸਿਖ ਧਨੁ ਧੰਨੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਨੀ ਗੁਰ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਕੰਨੀ ॥
say gursikh Dhan Dhan hai jinee gur updays suni-aa har kannee.
Blessed are those Guru’s followers who have listened to Guru’s teachings with full attention.
ਧੰਨ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਗੁਰਸਿੱਖ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਗਹੁ ਨਾਲ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਹੰਉਮੈ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਭੰਨੀ ॥
gur satgur naam drirh-aa-i-aa tin haN-umai dubiDhaa bhannee.
The true Guru has firmly implanted God’s Name within them, and has crushed their ego and doubt.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਭੀ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਨਾਮ ਦ੍ਰਿੜ੍ਹ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਤੇ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ (ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਭੰਨ ਸੁੱਟੀ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਵੈ ਕੋ ਮਿਤ੍ਰੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ਡਿਠਾ ਹਰਿ ਜੰਨੀ ॥
bin har naavai ko mitar naahee veechaar dithaa har jannee.
The devotees of God have reflected upon and concluded that without God’s Name there is no real friend.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ (ਗੁਰ-ਸਿੱਖਾਂ) ਨੇ ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕੇ ਵੇਖ ਲਈ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ (ਸੱਚਾ) ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
