ਲਿਖੇ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਬੋਲਿ ਬੋਲਿ ਗਵਾਈਐ ॥
likhay baajhahu surat naahee bol bol gavaa-ee-ai.
However, without pre-ordained destiny, one’s insight can’t get elevated, therefore it is useless to talk about Divine knowledge verbally.
ਪਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਉੱਚੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ, ਨਿਰੀਆਂ ਜ਼ਬਾਨੀ (ਗਿਆਨ ਦੀਆਂ) ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕਰਨਾ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਥੈ ਜਾਇ ਬਹੀਐ ਭਲਾ ਕਹੀਐ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਲਿਖਾਈਐ ॥
jithai jaa-ay bahee-ai bhalaa kahee-ai surat sabad likhaa-ee-ai.
Wherever we go and sit, we should talk about Glorification of God and inscribe the teachings of The Guru in our conscience.
ਜਿਥੇ ਭੀ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਬੈਠੀਏ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰੀਏ ਤੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਪ੍ਰੋਈਏ।
ਕਾਇਆ ਕੂੜਿ ਵਿਗਾੜਿ ਕਾਹੇ ਨਾਈਐ ॥੧॥
kaa-i-aa koorh vigaarh kaahay naa-ee-ai. ||1||
Otherwise, it is no use of taking any baths at holy places after polluting our body with falsehood. ||1||
(ਨਹੀਂ ਤਾਂ) ਹਿਰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਮੈਲਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਤੀਰਥ-) ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਦਾ ਕੀਹ ਲਾਭ? ॥੧॥
ਤਾ ਮੈ ਕਹਿਆ ਕਹਣੁ ਜਾ ਤੁਝੈ ਕਹਾਇਆ ॥
taa mai kahi-aa kahan jaa tujhai kahaa-i-aa.
O’ God, I could glorify You only when You so motivated me,
(ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਮੈਂ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਜਦੋਂ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਨਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਇਆ ॥
amrit har kaa naam mayrai man bhaa-i-aa.
and the nectar like Name of God (can) became pleasing to my mind.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਮੁ ਮੀਠਾ ਮਨਹਿ ਲਾਗਾ ਦੂਖਿ ਡੇਰਾ ਢਾਹਿਆ ॥
naam meethaa maneh laagaa dookh dayraa dhaahi-aa.
When Naam sounded sweet to the mind, the abode of sorrow got demolished.
ਜਦੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਲੱਗਣ ਲਗ ਪਿਆ ਤਦੋਂ ਦੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਡੇਰਾ ਚੁੱਕ ਲਿਆ (ਸਮਝੋ)।
ਸੂਖੁ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਆਇ ਵਸਿਆ ਜਾਮਿ ਤੈ ਫੁਰਮਾਇਆ ॥
sookh man meh aa-ay vasi-aa jaam tai furmaa-i-aa.
When You issued Your command, peace came to abide in my mind.
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਜਦੋਂ ਤੂੰ ਹੁਕਮ ਕੀਤਾ ਤਦੋਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਦਰਿ ਤੁਧੁ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਨਿ ਆਪੁ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥
nadar tuDh ardaas mayree jinn aap upaa-i-aa.
O’ God Who has created the world on His own, I can pray to You only when You motivate me.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ, ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜਗਤ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ, ਜਦੋਂ ਤੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਨਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਤਾ ਮੈ ਕਹਿਆ ਕਹਣੁ ਜਾ ਤੁਝੈ ਕਹਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
taa mai kahi-aa kahan jaa tujhai kahaa-i-aa. ||2||
O’ God, I could glorify You only when You so motivated me,
ਮੇਰੀ ਤਾਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈ ਹੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ ॥੨॥
ਵਾਰੀ ਖਸਮੁ ਕਢਾਏ ਕਿਰਤੁ ਕਮਾਵਣਾ ॥
vaaree khasam kadhaa-ay kirat kamaavanaa.
God gives mortals their turn of human life according to the past deeds done by them.
ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹਰੇਕ ਨੂੰ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਦੀ ਵਾਰੀ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮੰਦਾ ਕਿਸੈ ਨ ਆਖਿ ਝਗੜਾ ਪਾਵਣਾ ॥
mandaa kisai na aakh jhagrhaa paavnaa.
Therefore, we shouldn’t enter into any quarrel with anybody by calling one worthless.
ਕਿਸੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਭੈੜਾ ਆਖ ਕੇ ਕੋਈ ਝਗੜਾ ਖੜਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ (ਭਾਵ, ਭੈੜੇ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਕਰਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਝਗੜਾ ਕਰਨਾ ਹੈ)।
ਨਹ ਪਾਇ ਝਗੜਾ ਸੁਆਮਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਆਪਿ ਆਪੁ ਵਞਾਵਣਾ ॥
nah paa-ay jhagrhaa su-aam saytee aap aap vanjaavanaa.
Therefore, we should not quarrel with God since this way we destroy ourselves.
ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਝਗੜਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ, ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਤਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਤਬਾਹ ਕਰੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਸੁ ਨਾਲਿ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਸਰੀਕੀ ਜਾਇ ਕਿਆ ਰੂਆਵਣਾ ॥
jis naal sangat kar sareekee jaa-ay ki-aa roo-aavanaa.
Why to create rivalry with God, in whose company we have to live and then cry in the end?
ਜਿਸ ਮਾਲਕ ਦੇ ਸੰਗ ਜੀਊਣਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸੇ ਨਾਲ ਸ਼ਰੀਕਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਕਿਉਂ ਰੋਈਏ?
ਜੋ ਦੇਇ ਸਹਣਾ ਮਨਹਿ ਕਹਣਾ ਆਖਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਵਾਵਣਾ ॥
jo day-ay sahnaa maneh kahnaa aakh naahee vaavnaa.
We should bear with grace whatever pain or pleasure God gives us, and we should tell our mind not to express grievances uselessly.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਜੋ (ਸੁਖ ਦੁਖ) ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ (ਖਿੜੇ-ਮੱਥੇ) ਸਹਾਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗਿਲਾ-ਗੁਜ਼ਾਰੀ ਦੇ ਬੋਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਨੇ ਚਾਹੀਦੇ।
ਵਾਰੀ ਖਸਮੁ ਕਢਾਏ ਕਿਰਤੁ ਕਮਾਵਣਾ ॥੩॥
vaaree khasam kadhaa-ay kirat kamaavanaa. ||3||
God gives mortals their turn of human life according to their past deeds. ||3||
ਸਾਡੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਦੀ ਵਾਰੀ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਸਭ ਉਪਾਈਅਨੁ ਆਪਿ ਆਪੇ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ॥
sabh upaa-ee-an aap aapay nadar karay.
God Himself has created everybody, and He Himself blesses them with Glance of Grace.
ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਉਤੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਉੜਾ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਮਾਗੈ ਮੀਠਾ ਸਭ ਮਾਗੈ ॥
ka-urhaa ko-ay na maagai meethaa sabh maagai.
Nobody prays for any bitter thing; all pray for sweet and pleasant things in life.
ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ ਕੌੜੀ (ਦੁੱਖ ਵਾਲੀ) ਚੀਜ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੰਗਦਾ, ਹਰੇਕ ਮਿੱਠੀ (ਸੁਖਦਾਈ) ਚੀਜ਼ ਹੀ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ਮੀਠਾ ਮੰਗਿ ਦੇਖੈ ਖਸਮ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਕਰੇ ॥
sabh ko-ay meethaa mang daykhai khasam bhaavai so karay.
All try and pray for peace and comfort, but God only does what pleases Him.
ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਮਿੱਠੇ (ਸੁੱਖਦਾਈ) ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੰਗ ਹੀ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਹੀ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਜਾਪਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਿਛੁ ਪੁੰਨ ਦਾਨ ਅਨੇਕ ਕਰਣੀ ਨਾਮ ਤੁਲਿ ਨ ਸਮਸਰੇ ॥
kichh punn daan anayk karnee naam tul na samasray.
People give charities and perform various religious rituals but nothing equals meditating on God’s Name.
ਜੀਵ ਦਾਨ-ਪੁੰਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਹੋਰ ਭੀ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ(-ਜਪਣ) ਦੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਉੱਦਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕਾ ਜਿਨ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਕਰਮੁ ਹੋਆ ਧੁਰਿ ਕਦੇ ॥
naankaa jin naam mili-aa karam ho-aa Dhur kaday.
O’ Nanak, they who have been preordained with Naam, must have been blessed by the Grace of God at some point in the past.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਉਤੇ ਧੁਰੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਲੋਂ ਕਦੇ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਸਭ ਉਪਾਈਅਨੁ ਆਪਿ ਆਪੇ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ॥੪॥੧॥
sabh upaa-ee-an aap aapay nadar karay. ||4||1||

ਇਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਉਤੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੧॥

Wadahans, First Guru:
ਕਰਹੁ ਦਇਆ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣਾ ॥
karahu da-i-aa tayraa naam vakhaanaa.
O’ God, be compassionate to me so that I may meditate on Your Name.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ ਸਕਾਂ।
ਸਭ ਉਪਾਈਐ ਆਪਿ ਆਪੇ ਸਰਬ ਸਮਾਣਾ ॥
sabh upaa-ee-ai aap aapay sarab samaanaa.
It is You who has created all and You Yourself are pervading in all.
ਤੂੰ ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈਂ।
ਸਰਬੇ ਸਮਾਣਾ ਆਪਿ ਤੂਹੈ ਉਪਾਇ ਧੰਧੈ ਲਾਈਆ ॥
sarbay samaanaa aap toohai upaa-ay DhanDhai laa-ee-aa.
You are pervading in all, and after creating, You have engaged them all to their worldly tasks.
ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸਮਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈਂ, ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਦੌੜ-ਭੱਜ ਵਿਚ ਲਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਇਕਿ ਤੁਝ ਹੀ ਕੀਏ ਰਾਜੇ ਇਕਨਾ ਭਿਖ ਭਵਾਈਆ ॥
ik tujh hee kee-ay raajay iknaa bhikh bhavaa-ee-aa.
It is You, who have made some as the kings, while You are making others to wander around begging for charity.
ਕਈ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਰਾਜੇ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਕਈ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਮੰਗਤੇ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ) ਭਿੱਖਿਆ ਮੰਗਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ (ਦਰ ਦਰ) ਭਵਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਲੋਭੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਤੁਝੁ ਕੀਆ ਮੀਠਾ ਏਤੁ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਣਾ ॥
lobh moh tujh kee-aa meethaa ayt bharam bhulaanaa.
It is You who has made greed and attachment pleasing to the human beings, and the world is going astray by this delusion.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਲੋਭ ਅਤੇ ਮੋਹ ਨੂੰ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ, ਜਗਤ ਇਸ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪੈ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਦਾ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਹੁ ਅਪਣੀ ਤਾਮਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣਾ ॥੧॥
sadaa da-i-aa karahu apnee taam naam vakhaanaa. ||1||
Therefore, if You always keep showing Your mercy, only then I can meditate on Your Name. ||1||
ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਆਪਣੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹੇਂ ਤਾਂ ਹੀ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੧॥
ਨਾਮੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੈ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਦਾ ਮੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਣਾ ॥
naam tayraa hai saachaa sadaa mai man bhaanaa.
O’ God, Your Name is Eternal and is always pleasing to my mind.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਦੂਖੁ ਗਇਆ ਸੁਖੁ ਆਇ ਸਮਾਣਾ ॥
dookh ga-i-aa sukh aa-ay samaanaa.
By meditating on it, the pain vanishes and peace comes to abide within.
(ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਨਾਲ) ਦੁਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਅੰਦਰ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗਾਵਨਿ ਸੁਰਿ ਨਰ ਸੁਘੜ ਸੁਜਾਣਾ ॥
gaavan sur nar sugharh sujaanaa.
The angel-like virtuous, immaculate, and wise persons sing Your praises.
ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਸੁਚੱਜੇ ਸਿਆਣੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸੁਰਿ ਨਰ ਸੁਘੜ ਸੁਜਾਣ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਜੋ ਤੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਵਹੇ ॥
sur nar sugharh sujaan gaavahi jo tayrai man bhaavhay.
O’ God, the angel-like virtuous, immaculate, and wise persons sing Your praises since they are pleasing to Your mind.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਸੁਚੱਜੇ ਸਿਆਣੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੇ ਚੇਤਹਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਅਹਿਲਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਵਹੇ ॥
maa-i-aa mohay cheeteh naahee ahilaa janam gavaavhay.
But, the ones allured by worldly riches and power don’t remember You, and they waste their precious human life.
ਪਰ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਮੋਹੇ ਹੋਇਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੀ ਯਾਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਤੇ ਉਹ ਆਪਣਾ ਅਮੋਲਕ ਜਨਮ ਗਵਾ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਇਕਿ ਮੂੜ ਮੁਗਧ ਨ ਚੇਤਹਿ ਮੂਲੇ ਜੋ ਆਇਆ ਤਿਸੁ ਜਾਣਾ ॥
ik moorh mugaDh na cheeteh moolay jo aa-i-aa tis jaanaa.
Some ignorant foolish persons don’t remember You at all; they don’t understand, that whoever has come into this world, has to depart from here one day.
ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਐਸੇ ਮੂਰਖ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਨ ਜੋ, ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੈਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ। ਜੇਹੜਾ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਜੰਮਿਆ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਚਲੇ (ਮਰ) ਜਾਣਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਮੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਸਦਾ ਸਾਚਾ ਸੋਇ ਮੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਣਾ ॥੨॥
naam tayraa sadaa saachaa so-ay mai man bhaanaa. ||2||
O’ God, Your Name is everlasting, and is pleasing to my mind. ||2||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਤੇਰਾ ਵਖਤੁ ਸੁਹਾਵਾ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਤੇਰੀ ਬਾਣੀ ॥
tayraa vakhat suhaavaa amrit tayree banee.
O’ God, that time is beautiful when we reflect on You and Your Divine Hymns are like nectar.
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਹ ਵਕਤ ਬਹੁਤ ਸੁਹਾਵਣਾ ਹੈ ਜਦੋਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਚੇਤੇ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸੇਵਕ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਭਾਉ ਕਰਿ ਲਾਗਾ ਸਾਉ ਪਰਾਣੀ ॥
sayvak sayveh bhaa-o kar laagaa saa-o paraanee.
Those devotees who have been imbued with the relish of Your Name, meditate upon You with love.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਰਸ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਸੇਵਕ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਨਾਲ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸਾਉ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਤਿਨਾ ਲਾਗਾ ਜਿਨੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
saa-o paraanee tinaa laagaa jinee amrit paa-i-aa.
Those mortals are attuned to You, who are blessed with the nectar like Naam.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਰਸ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਨਾਮ-ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਮਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਜੋਇ ਰਾਤੇ ਨਿਤ ਚੜਹਿ ਸਵਾਇਆ ॥
naam tayrai jo-ay raatay nit charheh savaa-i-aa.
They who are imbued with Your Name, always keep prospering.
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਉੱਨਤੀ ਵਿਚ) ਸਦਾ ਵਧਦੇ ਫੁੱਲਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਇਕੁ ਕਰਮੁ ਧਰਮੁ ਨ ਹੋਇ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਜਾਮਿ ਨ ਏਕੁ ਪਛਾਣੀ ॥
ik karam Dharam na ho-ay sanjam jaam na ayk pachhaanee.
Until one realizes that there is only One God, not a single deed, act of faith, or austerity gets recognized in God’s presence.
ਜਦੋਂ ਤਕ ਮੈਂ ਇਕ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਤਦੋਂ ਤਕ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਇੱਕ ਭੀ ਧਰਮ-ਕਰਮ ਕੋਈ ਇੱਕ ਭੀ ਸੰਜਮ ਕਿਸੇ ਅਰਥ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਵਖਤੁ ਸੁਹਾਵਾ ਸਦਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਤੇਰੀ ਬਾਣੀ ॥੩॥

ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ-ਦਾਤੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਹ ਵੇਲਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਸੁਹਾਵਣਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਦੋਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰੀਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਹਉ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਸਾਚੇ ਨਾਵੈ ॥
ha-o balihaaree saachay naavai.
O’ God, I am dedicated to Your Everlasting Naam.
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
