ਭਰਮੇ ਭੂਲੀ ਰੇ ਜੈ ਚੰਦਾ ॥
bharmay bhoolee ray jai chandaa.
O’ my friend Jai Chand, the entire world is gone astray in doubt,
ਹੇ ਜੈ ਚੰਦ! ਸਾਰੀ ਲੋਕਾਈ ਭੁੱਲੀ ਪਈ ਹੈ
ਨਹੀ ਨਹੀ ਚੀਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿਆ ਪਰਮਾਨੰਦਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
nahee nahee cheenHi-aa parmaanandaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
and has not recognized God, the source of supreme bliss at all. ||1||Pause||
ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਘਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਖਾਇਆ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਬਧਾਇਆ ਖਿੰਥਾ ਮੁੰਦਾ ਮਾਇਆ ॥
ghar ghar khaa-i-aa pind baDhaa-i-aa khinthaa munda maa-i-aa.
Even if a person has eaten by begging from door-to-door, nourished his body and for the sake of Maya worn a patched coat and special yogic earrings,
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਘਰ ਘਰ ਤੋਂ ਮੰਗ ਕੇ ਟੁੱਕਰ ਖਾ ਲਿਆ, ਆਪਣੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਪਾਲ ਲਿਆ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਗੋਦੜੀ ਪਹਿਨ ਲਈ, ਮੁੰਦ੍ਰਾਂ ਭੀ ਪਾ ਲਈਆਂ,
ਭੂਮਿ ਮਸਾਣ ਕੀ ਭਸਮ ਲਗਾਈ ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਤਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
bhoom masaan kee bhasam lagaa-ee gur bin tat na paa-i-aa. ||2||
and smeared his body with ashes from cremation grounds; but the essence of reality canm not be obtained without the Guru’s teachings. ||2||
ਮਸਾਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੁਆਹ ਭੀ ਪਿੰਡੇ ਮਲ ਲਈ, ਪਰ ਜੇ ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਰਾਹ ਤੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਤੁਰਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੱਤ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ ॥੨॥
ਕਾਇ ਜਪਹੁ ਰੇ ਕਾਇ ਤਪਹੁ ਰੇ ਕਾਇ ਬਿਲੋਵਹੁ ਪਾਣੀ ॥
kaa-ay japahu ray kaa-ay taphu ray kaa-ay bilovahu paanee.
Why do you do these ritual worships, why do you perform penances, and keep doing these fruitless things, as if churning water?
ਕਿਉਂ ਗਿਣੇ ਮਿਥੇ ਜਪ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋ? ਕਿਉਂ ਤਪ ਸਾਧਦੇ ਹੋ? ਕਾਹਦੇ ਲਈ ਪਾਣੀ ਰਿੜਕਦੇ ਹੋ?
ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਉਪਾਈ ਸੋ ਸਿਮਰਹੁ ਨਿਰਬਾਣੀ ॥੩॥
lakh cha-oraaseeh jiniH upaa-ee so simrahu nirbaanee. ||3||
O’ my friends, instead remember that desire-free God, who has created this universe with millions of species.||3||
ਉਸ ਵਾਸ਼ਨਾ-ਰਹਿਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ (ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ) ਯਾਦ ਕਰੋ, ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਚੌਰਾਸੀ ਲੱਖ (ਜੋਨਿ ਵਾਲੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ) ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਕਾਇ ਕਮੰਡਲੁ ਕਾਪੜੀਆ ਰੇ ਅਠਸਠਿ ਕਾਇ ਫਿਰਾਹੀ ॥
kaa-ay kamandal kaaprhee-aa ray athsath kaa-ay firaa-ee.
O’ Yogi, wearing patched coat, holding begging bowls in your hands, why are you aimlessly roaming around the so called sixty-eight holy places of pilgrimage?
ਹੇ ਕਾਪੜੀਏ! (ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ) ਖੱਪਰ ਕਾਹਦੇ ਲਈ ਪਕੜਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਤੇ ਅਠਾਹਠ ਤੀਰਥਾਂ ਤੇ ਭਟਕਣ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ (ਇੰਜ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਲਾਭ ਨਹੀਂ)?
ਬਦਤਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਲੋਚਨੁ ਸੁਨੁ ਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਕਣ ਬਿਨੁ ਗਾਹੁ ਕਿ ਪਾਹੀ ॥੪॥੧॥
badat tarilochan sun ray paraanee kan bin gaahu ke paahee. ||4||1||
Trilochan says, listen O’ mortals, as there is no use of thrashing straw, similarly there is no use of doing outer rituals without remembering God. ||4||1||
ਤ੍ਰਿਲੋਚਨ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ: ਹੇ ਬੰਦੇ! ਸੁਣ! ਜੇ (ਭਰੀਆਂ ਵਿਚ) ਅੰਨ ਦੇ ਦਾਣੇ ਨਹੀਂ, ਤਾਂ ਗਾਹ ਪਾਣ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਲਾਭ ਨਹੀਂ ॥੪॥੧॥

One who thinks of material wealth and dies in such thoughts at the last moment,
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਰਨ ਵੇਲੇ ਧਨ-ਪਦਾਰਥ ਚੇਤੇ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਇਸੇ ਸੋਚ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਮਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਰਪ ਜੋਨਿ ਵਲਿ ਵਲਿ ਅਉਤਰੈ ॥੧॥
sarap jon val val a-utarai. ||1||
shall be born over and over again, in the form of serpents. ||1||
ਉਹ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਸੱਪ ਦੀ ਜੂਨੇ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਅਰੀ ਬਾਈ ਗੋਬਿਦ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਤਿ ਬੀਸਰੈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
aree baa-ee gobid naam mat beesrai. rahaa-o.
O’ sister, God’s Name may never go out of my mind. ||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭੈਣ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਨਾਹ ਭੁੱਲੇ ॥ਰਹਾਉ॥
ਅੰਤਿ ਕਾਲਿ ਜੋ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਸਿਮਰੈ ਐਸੀ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਮਹਿ ਜੇ ਮਰੈ ॥
ant kaal jo istaree simrai aisee chintaa meh jay marai.
One who thinks of woman and dies in such thoughts at the very last moment,
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਰਨ ਸਮੇਂ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਇਸੇ ਯਾਦ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਤਿਆਗ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਬੇਸਵਾ ਜੋਨਿ ਵਲਿ ਵਲਿ ਅਉਤਰੈ ॥੨॥
baysvaa jon val val a-utarai. ||2||
shall be born over and over again as a prostitute. ||2||
ਉਹ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਵੇਸਵਾ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਅੰਤਿ ਕਾਲਿ ਜੋ ਲੜਿਕੇ ਸਿਮਰੈ ਐਸੀ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਮਹਿ ਜੇ ਮਰੈ ॥
ant kaal jo larhikay simrai aisee chintaa meh jay marai.
One who thinks of children and dies in such thoughts at the last moment
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅੰਤ ਵੇਲੇ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਪੁੱਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਪੁੱਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੀ ਮਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸੂਕਰ ਜੋਨਿ ਵਲਿ ਵਲਿ ਅਉਤਰੈ ॥੩॥
sookar jon val val a-utarai. ||3||
shall be born over and over again as a pig. ||3||
ਉਹ ਸੂਰ ਦੀ ਜੂਨੇ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਅੰਤਿ ਕਾਲਿ ਜੋ ਮੰਦਰ ਸਿਮਰੈ ਐਸੀ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਮਹਿ ਜੇ ਮਰੈ ॥
ant kaal jo mandar simrai aisee chintaa meh jay marai.
One who thinks of mansions and dies in such thoughts at the very last moment,
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅਖ਼ੀਰ ਵੇਲੇ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਘਰ ਮਹਲ-ਮਾੜੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਹਾਹੁਕੇ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਹਾਹੁਕਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਸਰੀਰ ਛੱਡ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਪ੍ਰੇਤ ਜੋਨਿ ਵਲਿ ਵਲਿ ਅਉਤਰੈ ॥੪॥

shall be born over and over again as a ghost. ||4||
ਉਹ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਪ੍ਰੇਤ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਅੰਤਿ ਕਾਲਿ ਨਾਰਾਇਣੁ ਸਿਮਰੈ ਐਸੀ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਮਹਿ ਜੇ ਮਰੈ ॥
ant kaal naaraa-in simrai aisee chintaa meh jay marai.
One who always remembers God and dies thinking of Him at the very last moment,
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅੰਤ ਸਮੇਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਇਸ ਯਾਦ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੀ ਚੋਲਾ ਤਿਆਗਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਬਦਤਿ ਤਿਲੋਚਨੁ ਤੇ ਨਰ ਮੁਕਤਾ ਪੀਤੰਬਰੁ ਵਾ ਕੇ ਰਿਦੈ ਬਸੈ ॥੫॥੨॥
badat tilochan tay nar muktaa peetambar vaa kay ridai basai. ||5||2||
Trilochan says, such a person is emancipated, and God comes to abide in that person’s heart. ||5||2||
ਤ੍ਰਿਲੋਚਨ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ-ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਆਜ਼ਾਦ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੫॥੨॥

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

One eternal God, realized by the grace of the true Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਪਰਮਾਦਿ ਪੁਰਖਮਨੋਪਿਮੰ ਸਤਿ ਆਦਿ ਭਾਵ ਰਤੰ ॥
parmaad purakhmanopimaN sat aad bhaav rataN.
That God is the highest power, the root cause of everything and is pervading in all; He is unrivalled and eternal; He is full of virtues and imbued with love.
ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚੀ ਹਸਤੀ ਹੈ, ਸਭ ਦਾ ਮੂਲ ਹੈ, ਸਭ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਵਰਗਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ, ਉਸ ਵਿਚ ਥਿਰਤਾ ਆਦਿਕ (ਸਾਰੇ) ਗੁਣ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹਨ।
ਪਰਮਦਭੁਤੰ ਪਰਕ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਪਰੰ ਜਦਿਚਿੰਤਿ ਸਰਬ ਗਤੰ ॥੧॥
parmad-bhutaN parkarit paraN jadchint sarab gataN. ||1||
He is astoundingly wonderful and detached from Maya; He is incomprehensible and is pervading everywhere. ||1||
ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਅਸਚਰਜ ਹੈ, ਮਾਇਆ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮੁਕੰਮਲ ਸਰੂਪ ਸੋਚ-ਮੰਡਲ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਆ ਸਕਦਾ, ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਅੱਪੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਕੇਵਲ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਮਨੋਰਮੰ ॥
kayval raam naam manormaN.
Remember only God’s beautiful Name,
ਕੇਵਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ,
ਬਦਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਤਤ ਮਇਅੰ ॥
bad amrit tat ma-i-aN.
who is brimful with the ambrosial nectar and is the embodiment of reality.
ਜੋ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ-ਭਰਪੂਰ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਅਸਲੀਅਤ-ਰੂਪ ਹੈ,
ਨ ਦਨੋਤਿ ਜਸਮਰਣੇਨ ਜਨਮ ਜਰਾਧਿ ਮਰਣ ਭਇਅੰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
na danot jasmarnayn janam jaraaDh maran bha-i-aN. ||1|| rahaa-o.
By remembering God’s Name, one is not troubled by the fear of birth, old age and death. ||1||Pause||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਨਾਲ ਜਨਮ, ਬੁਢੇਪੇ ਅਤੇ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਾਪਰਦਾ। ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਇਛਸਿ ਜਮਾਦਿ ਪਰਾਭਯੰ ਜਸੁ ਸ੍ਵਸਤਿ ਸੁਕ੍ਰਿਤ ਕ੍ਰਿਤੰ ॥
ichhas jamaad paraabh-yaN jas savast sukarit kirt-aN.
If you wish to gain victory over the demon of death and desire glory and comfort, then do the sublime deed of singing that God’s praises,
ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਜਮ ਆਦਿਕ ਨੂੰ ਜਿੱਤਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਸੋਭਾ ਤੇ ਸੁਖ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਕੀਰਤੀ ਗਾਇਨ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਸ਼ੁਭ ਕਾਰਜ ਕਰ।
ਭਵ ਭੂਤ ਭਾਵ ਸਮਬ੍ਯ੍ਯਿਅੰ ਪਰਮੰ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨਮਿਦੰ ॥੨॥
bhav bhoot bhaav sam-bi-yam parmaN parsanmidaN. ||2||
who is imperishable now, was so in the past and would remain same in future; and who always remains full of delight and bliss. ||2||
ਜੋ ਹੁਣ, ਪਿਛਲੇ ਸਮੇ ਤੇ ਅੱਗੋਂ ਲਈ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਪੂਰਨ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਨਾਸ-ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਦਾ ਖਿੜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਲੋਭਾਦਿ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਪਰ ਗ੍ਰਿਹੰ ਜਦਿਬਿਧਿ ਆਚਰਣੰ ॥
lobhaad darisat par garihaN jadibiDh aacharnaN.
If you are seeking the path of good conduct, then forsake greed and do not look upon other’s property and women,
ਜੇਕਰ ਤੂੰ ਸ਼ੁਭ ਚਾਲ-ਚੱਲਣ ਦਾ ਮਾਰਗ ਢੂੰਡਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਲਾਲਚ ਆਦਿਕ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਜਾਇਦਾਦ ਤੇ ਔਰਤ ਨੂੰ ਤਾੜਨਾ ਛੱਡ ਦੇ।
ਤਜਿ ਸਕਲ ਦੁਹਕ੍ਰਿਤ ਦੁਰਮਤੀ ਭਜੁ ਚਕ੍ਰਧਰ ਸਰਣੰ ॥੩॥
taj sakal duhkarit durmatee bhaj chakarDhar sarnaN. ||3||
Abandon all evil deeds, renounce evil intellect and seek God’s refuge. ||3||
ਸਾਰੇ ਮੰਦੇ ਕੰਮ ਛੱਡ ਦੇਹ, ਭੈੜੀ ਮੱਤ ਤਿਆਗ ਦੇਹ, ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਜਾ ਪਉ ॥੩॥
ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤ ਨਿਜ ਨਿਹਕੇਵਲਾ ਰਿਦ ਕਰਮਣਾ ਬਚਸਾ ॥
har bhagat nij nihkayvlaa rid karmanaa bachsaa.
The beloved devotees of God are pure in mind, word, and deed.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਭਗਤ ਮਨ ਬਚਨ ਅਤੇ ਕਰਮ ਤੋਂ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ( ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ, ਬੋਲ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਅਤੇ ਕੰਮ ਵੀ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ)।
ਜੋਗੇਨ ਕਿੰ ਜਗੇਨ ਕਿੰ ਦਾਨੇਨ ਕਿੰ ਤਪਸਾ ॥੪॥
jogayn kiN jagayn kiN daadayn kiN tapsaa. ||4||
They don’t have any concern with yoga and no obligation to the world; they don’t feel any necessity for charity or penance. ||4||
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜੋਗ ਨਾਲ ਕੀਹ ਵਾਸਤਾ? ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜੱਗ ਨਾਲ ਕੀਹ ਪ੍ਰਯੋਜਨ? ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਤਪ ਨਾਲ ਕੀਹ? ॥੪॥
ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਗੋਬਿੰਦੇਤਿ ਜਪਿ ਨਰ ਸਕਲ ਸਿਧਿ ਪਦੰ ॥
gobind gobindayt jap nar sakal siDh padaN.
O’ mortal, remember God, the master of the universe; He alone is the source of all miraculous powers.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ! ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਦਾ ਭਜਨ ਕਰ, ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਨੂੰ ਜਪ, ਉਹੀ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਸਿੱਧੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹੈ।
ਜੈਦੇਵ ਆਇਉ ਤਸ ਸਫੁਟੰ ਭਵ ਭੂਤ ਸਰਬ ਗਤੰ ॥੫॥੧॥
jaidayv aa-i-o tas safutaN bhav bhoot sarab gataN. ||5||1||
Jai Dev has openly come to the refuge of that God, who has been the savior of all in the past and will be the savior of all now and in future. ||5||1||
ਜੈ ਦੇਵ ਜ਼ਾਹਿਰਾ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਣੀ ਆਇਆ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਹੁਣ ਅਤੇ ਪਿਛੇ ਸਭ ਦੀ ਗਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਆਇਆ ਹੈ ॥੫॥੧॥
