ਹਰਿ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਜਾਇ ਗੁਮਾਨੁ ॥
har sukh-daata man vasai ha-umai jaa-ay gumaan.
God, the Giver of peace, shall dwell in your mind, and your egotism and pride shall depart.
ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਾਤਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸੇਗਾ, ਹਉਮੈ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਇਗਾ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਦਰੀ ਪਾਈਐ ਤਾ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਲਾਗੈ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥੨॥
naanak nadree paa-ee-ai taa an-din laagai Dhi-aan. ||2||
O’ Nanak, when one realizes God by His Glance of Grace, then, night and day, one’s mind remains attuned in His meditation. ||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਦੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਉਸ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੨॥

Pauree:
ਸਤੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਸਭੁ ਸਚੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਵਿਤਾ ॥
sat santokh sabh sach hai gurmukh pavitaa.
The Guru’s follower is totally truthful, content and of immaculate character.
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ (ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲਾ) ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਤ ਸੰਤੋਖ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਅੰਦਰਹੁ ਕਪਟੁ ਵਿਕਾਰੁ ਗਇਆ ਮਨੁ ਸਹਜੇ ਜਿਤਾ ॥
andrahu kapat vikaar ga-i-aa man sehjay jitaa.
Deception and wickedness depart from within him, and he easily conquers his mind.
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਖੋਟ ਤੇ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸੌਖੇ ਹੀ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਸ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ;
ਤਹ ਜੋਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੁ ਅਨੰਦ ਰਸੁ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਗਵਿਤਾ ॥
tah jot pargaas anand ras agi-aan gavitaa.
There (In such a state of mind), the Divine Light and the essence of bliss are manifest, and ignorance is eliminated.
ਇਸ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ (ਅੱਪੜ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ) ਜੋਤਿ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਰਵੈ ਗੁਣ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਕਿਤਾ ॥
an-din har kay gun ravai gun pargat kitaa.
Then day and night, one sings praises of God, and divine virtues become manifest.
(ਫਿਰ) ਉਹ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਰੱਬੀ) ਗੁਣ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਰਗਟ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ;
ਸਭਨਾ ਦਾਤਾ ਏਕੁ ਹੈ ਇਕੋ ਹਰਿ ਮਿਤਾ ॥੯॥
sabhnaa daataa ayk hai iko har mitaa. ||9||
One is totally convinced that the giver and true friend of all is only the one God. ||9||
(ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਯਕੀਨ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਾਤਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਹੈ ॥੯॥

Shalok, Third Guru:
ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਬਿੰਦੇ ਸੋ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣੁ ਕਹੀਐ ਜਿ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਏ ॥
barahm binday so baraahman kahee-ai je an-din har liv laa-ay.
A Brahmin is the one who understands God, and who lovingly attunes his mind on Him day and night.
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਨੂੰ ਬਿੰਦਦਾ ਹੈ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਪਛਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ) ਜੋ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ ਕਹਿਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪੁਛੈ ਸਚੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਰੋਗੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਜਾਏ ॥
satgur puchhai sach sanjam kamaavai ha-umai rog tis jaa-ay.
Following the teachings of the True Guru, the Brahmin practices Truth and self-restraint, and is rid of the disease of ego.
(ਉਹ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ) ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਕਹੇ ਤੇ ਤੁਰਦਾ ਹੈ ‘ਸੱਚ’ ਰੂਪ ਸੰਜਮ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਤੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਉਸ ਦਾ ਹਉਮੈ-ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ;
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਗੁਣ ਸੰਗ੍ਰਹੈ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥
har gun gaavai gun sangrahai jotee jot milaa-ay.
Such a Brahmin sings praises of God, acquires divine qualities, and thus unites the inner light of soul with God’s light.
ਉਹ ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਰੱਬੀ) ਗੁਣ ਇਕੱਤ੍ਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਪਰਮ-ਜੋਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣੀ ਆਤਮਾ ਮਿਲਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਇਸੁ ਜੁਗ ਮਹਿ ਕੋ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਜਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਟਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥
is jug meh ko virlaa barahm gi-aanee je ha-umai mayt samaa-ay.
In this world, rare is the person who is a true divine scholar, who by erasing the ego, merges in God.
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਚ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸ ਨੋ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਜਿ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਏ ॥੧॥
naanak tis no mili-aa sadaa sukh paa-ee-ai je an-din har naam Dhi-aa-ay. ||1||
O’ Nanak, one always obtains peace upon meeting such a person who day and night meditates on Naam.||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੋ (ਬ੍ਰਹਮਗਿਆਨੀ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ) ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਿਆਂ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥

Third Guru:
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਕਪਟੁ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਰਸਨਾ ਝੂਠੁ ਬੋਲਾਇ ॥
antar kapat manmukh agi-aanee rasnaa jhooth bolaa-ay.
There is falsehood and deceit within the mind of a self-conceited and ignorant person, who always utters lies from the tongue.
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਾਹਲ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਖੋਟ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ ਝੂਠ (ਭਾਵ, ਅੰਦਰਲੇ ਖੋਟ ਦੇ ਉਲਟ) ਬੋਲਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਹੋਰ ਤੇ ਬਾਹਰੋਂ ਹੋਰ);
ਕਪਟਿ ਕੀਤੈ ਹਰਿ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਨਿਤ ਵੇਖੈ ਸੁਣੈ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥
kapat keetai har purakh na bheejai nit vaykhai sunai subhaa-ay.
God is not pleased by practicing deception, because He watches and listens to what we do, say, or think.
(ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਠੱਗੀ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ, (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਉਹ ਸੁਤੇ ਹੀ (ਅਸਾਡਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਲੁਕਵਾਂ ਕੰਮ ਭੀ) ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ (ਲੁਕਵਾਂ ਬੋਲ ਤੇ ਖ਼ਿਆਲ ਭੀ) ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਜਾਇ ਜਗੁ ਪਰਬੋਧੈ ਬਿਖੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਸੁਆਇ ॥
doojai bhaa-ay jaa-ay jag parboDhai bikh maa-i-aa moh su-aa-ay.
In the love of duality, the self-conceited person advises the world, but himself is engrossed in the greed for worldly riches.
(ਮਨਮੁਖ) ਆਪ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ; ਜ਼ਹਿਰੀਲੀ ਧਨ-ਦੌਲਤ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਅਤੇ ਸੁਆਦ ਅੰਦਰ ਉਹ ਖੱਚਤ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਇਤੁ ਕਮਾਣੈ ਸਦਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵੈ ਜੰਮੈ ਮਰੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥
it kamaanai sadaa dukh paavai jammai marai fir aavai jaa-ay.
By such deeds, one always suffers, and dies to be re-born, and repeatedly keeps coming and going.
ਇਹ ਕਰਤੂਤ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੰਮਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮੁੜ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਹੈ ਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਹਸਾ ਮੂਲਿ ਨ ਚੁਕਈ ਵਿਚਿ ਵਿਸਟਾ ਪਚੈ ਪਚਾਇ ॥
sahsaa mool na chuk-ee vich vistaa pachai pachaa-ay.
That person’s inner doubt is not removed at all, therefore, such a person is consumed in filth.
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਅੰਦਰਲਾ ਤੌਖਲਾ ਕਦੇ ਮਿਟਦਾ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ, ਉਹ ਮਾਨੋ, ਮੈਲੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆ ਸੜਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਤਿਸੁ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸਿਖ ਸੁਣਾਇ ॥
jis no kirpaa karay mayraa su-aamee tis gur kee sikh sunaa-ay.
Upon whom my Master God shows mercy, He makes that person listen to the Guru’s teachings.
ਪਰ, ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਸੁਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ;
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੋ ਗਾਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੋ ਅੰਤਿ ਛਡਾਇ ॥੨॥
har naam Dhi-aavai har naamo gaavai har naamo ant chhadaa-ay. ||2||
That person meditates on Naam, sings praises of God’s Naam alone, and in the end this Naam liberates that person. ||2||
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਗਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਖ਼ਰ (ਇਸ ਸਹਸੇ ਤੋਂ) ਛੁਡਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥

Pauree:
ਜਿਨਾ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਮਨਾਇਓਨੁ ਤੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਸੰਸਾਰਿ ॥
jinaa hukam manaa-i-on tay pooray sansaar.
Those whom God causes to obey His will are the perfect ones in this world.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਪੂਰੇ ਭਾਂਡੇ ਹਨ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਆਪਣਾ) ਹੁਕਮ ਮਨਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸੇਵਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਪੂਰੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
saahib sayvniH aapnaa poorai sabad veechaar.
They serve their Master God, and reflect upon the perfect teachings of the Guru.
ਉਹ ਬੰਦੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਦੀ ਬੰਦਗੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਚਾਕਰੀ ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥
har kee sayvaa chaakree sachai sabad pi-aar.
Worship of God can only be done through the love of the true God’s Word.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਬੰਦਗੀ ਹੋ ਹੀ ਤਾਂ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ ਜੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰ ਪਾਈਏ, (ਲਫ਼ਜ਼ੀ-ਸੱਚੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ)।
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਮਹਲੁ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਮਾਰਿ ॥
har kaa mahal tinHee paa-i-aa jinH ha-umai vichahu maar.
Only those who have killed the ego from within their minds have realized God.
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਹਉਮੈ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹੇ ਜਪਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਾ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥੧੦॥
naanak gurmukh mil rahay jap har naamaa ur Dhaar. ||10||
O Nanak, the Guru’s followers remain united with God by enshrining God’s Naam in their hearts. ||10||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰੋ ਕੇ ਤੇ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧੦॥

Shalok, Third Guru:
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਧਿਆਨ ਸਹਜ ਧੁਨਿ ਉਪਜੈ ਸਚਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਆ ॥
gurmukh Dhi-aan sahj Dhun upjai sach naam chit laa-i-aa.
In the mind of a Guru-conscious person arises a wave of meditation and poise, because that person has attuned the mind to the true Naam.
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਜੁੜੀ-ਸੁਰਤ ਤੇ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਦੀ ਰੌ ਚੱਲ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸੱਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਰਹੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਇਆ ॥
gurmukh an-din rahai rang raataa har kaa naam man bhaa-i-aa.
A Guru-conscious person remains imbued with the love of God day and night, and God’s Naam is pleasing to the mind.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਵੇਖਹਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਬੋਲਹਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਾਇਆ ॥
gurmukh har vaykheh gurmukh har boleh gurmukh har sahj rang laa-i-aa.
The Guru-conscious person sees God everywhere, the Guru-conscious person speaks of God, and the Guru-conscious person naturally is imbued with the love of God.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਬੰਦੇ ਰੱਬ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ (ਹਰ ਥਾਂ) ਵੇਖਦੇ ਹਨ, ਰੱਬ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ ਹੀ (ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ) ਉਚਾਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਰੱਬੀ ਮੇਲ ਵਾਲੀ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰ ਪਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਤਿਮਰ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਅਧੇਰੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥
naanak gurmukh gi-aan paraapat hovai timar agi-aan aDhayr chukaa-i-aa.
O Nanak, the Guru-conscious person attains spiritual wisdom, and the pitch-black darkness of ignorance is dispelled.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਨੂੰ ਉੱਚੀ ਸਮਝ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਅਗਿਆਨ-ਰੂਪ ਘੁੱਪ ਹਨੇਰਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ;
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਕਰਮੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਧੁਰਿ ਪੂਰਾ ਤਿਨਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥੧॥
jis no karam hovai Dhur pooraa tin gurmukh har naam Dhi-aa-i-aa. ||1||
Only those Guru-conscious persons have meditated on God’s Naam who are blessed by the grace of God. ||1||
ਉਸੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਨੇ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ ਧੁਰੋਂ (ਕਰਤਾਰ ਵਲੋਂ) ਪੂਰੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ॥੧॥

Third Guru:
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਜਿਨਾ ਨ ਸੇਵਿਓ ਸਬਦਿ ਨ ਲਗੋ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
satgur jinaa na sayvi-o sabad na lago pi-aar.
Those who did not serve the True Guru and did not embrace love for Guru’s Word,
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੰਨਿਆ, ਤੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਗੁਰ-ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣਿਆ,
ਸਹਜੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਕਿਤੁ ਆਇਆ ਸੰਸਾਰਿ ॥
sehjay naam na Dhi-aa-i-aa kit aa-i-aa sansaar.
and did not meditate on God’s Naam with poise, why did they even to come into the world?
ਅਤੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸ਼ਾਂਤ-ਚਿੱਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ, ਉਹ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਕਾਹਦੇ ਲਈ ਆਏ?
ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੂਨੀ ਪਾਈਐ ਵਿਸਟਾ ਸਦਾ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥
fir fir joonee paa-ee-ai vistaa sadaa khu-aar.
Time and again, they are reincarnated, as if they are rotting away forever in filth.
ਅਜੇਹਾ ਬੰਦਾ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਜੂਨ ਵਿਚ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਾਨੋ, ਮੈਲੇ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਦੁਖੀ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਕੂੜੈ ਲਾਲਚਿ ਲਗਿਆ ਨਾ ਉਰਵਾਰੁ ਨ ਪਾਰੁ ॥
koorhai laalach lagi-aa naa urvaar na paar.
By being involved in false greed for worldly riches, they find peace neither in this world nor hereafter.
(ਗੁਰੂ ਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਸਾਰ ਕੇ) ਝੂਠੇ-ਲਾਲਚ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆਂ ਨਾ ਉਰਲਾ ਬੰਨਾ ਲੱਭਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਨਾ ਹੀ ਪਰਲਾ ਬੰਨਾ।
