ਜੈਸੀ ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕ ਪਿਆਸ ਖਿਨੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਬੂੰਦ ਚਵੈ ਬਰਸੁ ਸੁਹਾਵੇ ਮੇਹੁ ॥
jaisee chaatrik pi-aas khin khin boond chavai baras suhaavay mayhu.
like the song-bird has love for the drop of rain, even when thirsty it does not drink water but keeps chirping as if requesting the cloud to come down as rain.
ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਪਪੀਹੇ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਰਖਾ-ਬੂੰਦ ਨਾਲ ਹੈ l ਪਪੀਹਾ ਤਿਹਾਇਆ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਹੋਰ ਪਾਣੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੀਂਦਾ, ਉਹ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਬੱਦਲ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ-ਹੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਮੇਘ! ਵਰਖਾ ਕਰ।
ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਕਰੀਜੈ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਦੀਜੈ ਅਤਿ ਲਾਈਐ ਚਿਤੁ ਮੁਰਾਰੀ ॥
har pareet kareejai ih man deejai at laa-ee-ai chit muraaree.
We should love God, surrender our mind and totally focus our consciousness on Him.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਪਾਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ,ਇਹ ਮਨ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਵਾਲੇ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈl
ਮਾਨੁ ਨ ਕੀਜੈ ਸਰਣਿ ਪਰੀਜੈ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਉ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ॥
maan na keejai saran pareejai darsan ka-o balihaaree.
We should not feel egotistically proud of this love rather we should simply seek God’s refuge and dedicate ourselves to His vision.
ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦਰਸਨ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪ ਸਦਕੇ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈl
ਗੁਰ ਸੁਪ੍ਰਸੰਨੇ ਮਿਲੁ ਨਾਹ ਵਿਛੁੰਨੇ ਧਨ ਦੇਦੀ ਸਾਚੁ ਸਨੇਹਾ ॥
gur suparsannay mil naah vichhunay Dhan daydee saach sanayhaa.
The bride-soul, on whom the Guru is totally pleased, remembers God and sends her prayers to the eternal being and begs to reunite with Him.
ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਉਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ-ਹੇ ਵਿਛੁੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ।
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਛੰਤ ਅਨੰਤ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਕੇ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਕੀਜੈ ਨੇਹਾ ਮਨ ਐਸਾ ਨੇਹੁ ਕਰੇਹੁ ॥੨॥
kaho naanak chhant anant thaakur kay har si-o keejai nayhaa man aisaa nayhu karayhu. ||2||
Nanak says, O my mind sing praises of the infinite God and imbue yourself with love for God (like love of fish for water and of a pied-cuckoo for drop of rain). |2|
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਤੂੰ ਭੀ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾ। ਹੇ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਮਨ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਬਣਾ, ਅਜੇਹਾ ਪਿਆਰ (ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਮੱਛੀ ਦਾ ਪਾਣੀ ਨਾਲ ਹੈ ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਪਪੀਹੇ ਦਾ ਵਰਖਾ ਬੂੰਦ ਨਾਲ ਹੈ) ॥੨॥
ਚਕਵੀ ਸੂਰ ਸਨੇਹੁ ਚਿਤਵੈ ਆਸ ਘਣੀ ਕਦਿ ਦਿਨੀਅਰੁ ਦੇਖੀਐ ॥
chakvee soor sanayhu chitvai aas ghanee kad dinee-ar daykhee-ai.
O’ my mind, love your God just as a Chakwi (Shelduck) loves the Sun; all night her greatest craving is to behold the sun.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਉਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰ) ਜਿਹਾ ਚਕਵੀ ਸੂਰਜ ਨਾਲ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ , ਉਹ ਸਾਰੀ ਰਾਤ , ਬੜੀ ਤਾਂਘ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਕਦੋਂ ਸੂਰਜ ਦਾ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ।
ਕੋਕਿਲ ਅੰਬ ਪਰੀਤਿ ਚਵੈ ਸੁਹਾਵੀਆ ਮਨ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਕੀਜੀਐ ॥
kokil amb pareet chavai suhaavee-aa man har rang keejee-ai.
O’ my mind, love your God just as a Koel (cuckoo) loves the mango, sitting on the mango tree she sings so sweetly.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਉਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਪਾ, ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਕੋਇਲ ਦਾ ਅੰਬ ਨਾਲ l ਉਹ ਅੰਬ ਦੇ ਰੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਬੈਠ ਕੇ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਬੋਲਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਕਰੀਜੈ ਮਾਨੁ ਨ ਕੀਜੈ ਇਕ ਰਾਤੀ ਕੇ ਹਭਿ ਪਾਹੁਣਿਆ ॥
har pareet kareejai maan na keejai ik raatee kay habh paahuni-aa.
Imbue yourself with God’s love and do not feel egotistically proud of it, because in this world we all are like guests for a very short period.
ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਾਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ। ਇਥੇ ਅਸੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਇਕ ਰਾਤ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਹੁਣੇ ਹੀ ਹਾਂ।
ਅਬ ਕਿਆ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਾਇਓ ਮੋਹੁ ਰਚਾਇਓ ਨਾਗੇ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਵਣਿਆ ॥
ab ki-aa rang laa-i-o moh rachaa-i-o naagay aavan jaavani-aa.
Why have you entangled yourself in pleasures and emotional attachments ? All come into this world with nothing and with nothing they depart.
ਤੂੰ ਕਿਉਂ ਰੰਗ-ਰਲੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਮਮਤਾ ਅੰਦਰ ਖੱਚਤ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈਂ?, ਇਥੇ ਸਭ ਨੰਗੇ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਨੰਗੇ ਹੀ ਚਲੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਥਿਰੁ ਸਾਧੂ ਸਰਣੀ ਪੜੀਐ ਚਰਣੀ ਅਬ ਟੂਟਸਿ ਮੋਹੁ ਜੁ ਕਿਤੀਐ ॥
thir saaDhoo sarnee parhee-ai charnee ab tootas moh jo kitee-ai.
Spiritual stability and freedom from the bonds of worldly riches can be attained only by following the Guru’s teachings in the holy congregation.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈਣ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨੀਂ ਪੈਣ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਹੀ ਮਨ ਅਡੋਲ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਮੋਹ ਟੁੱਟੇਗਾ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਤੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਨਾਲ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਛੰਤ ਦਇਆਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਕੇ ਮਨ ਹਰਿ ਲਾਇ ਪਰੀਤਿ ਕਬ ਦਿਨੀਅਰੁ ਦੇਖੀਐ ॥੩॥
kaho naanak chhant da-i-aal purakh kay man har laa-ay pareet kab dinee-ar daykhee-ai. ||3||
Nanak says, sing the praises of the all pervading merciful God; enshrine in your mind the love for God like the love of chakwi (shelduck) for sun. ||3||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਦਇਆ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਇਆ ਕਰ, ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਬਣਾ (ਉਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਚਕਵੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਰਾਤ ਤਾਂਘ ਕਰਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਕਦੋਂ ਸੂਰਜ ਦਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ ॥੩॥
ਨਿਸਿ ਕੁਰੰਕ ਜੈਸੇ ਨਾਦ ਸੁਣਿ ਸ੍ਰਵਣੀ ਹੀਉ ਡਿਵੈ ਮਨ ਐਸੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਕੀਜੈ ॥
nis kurank jaisay naad sun sarvanee hee-o divai man aisee pareet keejai.
O’ my mind, your love for God should be like the love of a deer with hunter’s horn; upon hearing it at night, he surrenders his heart to it.
ਹੇ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਮਨ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਪਾਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਹਰਨ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਰਾਤ ਵੇਲੇ ਹਰਨ ਘੰਡੇ ਹੇੜੇ ਦੀ ਆਵਾਜ਼ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੰਨੀਂ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਹਿਰਦਾ (ਉਸ ਆਵਾਜ਼ ਦੇ) ਹਵਾਲੇ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜੈਸੀ ਤਰੁਣਿ ਭਤਾਰ ਉਰਝੀ ਪਿਰਹਿ ਸਿਵੈ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਲ ਦੀਜੈ ॥
jaisee tarun bhataar urjhee pireh sivai ih man laal deejai.
Surrender your heart to God like a young bride, who bound by the love to her husband serves him.
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਜਵਾਨ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਤੀ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਬੱਝੀ ਹੋਈ ਪਤੀ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਇਹ ਮਨ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਦੇ
ਮਨੁ ਲਾਲਹਿ ਦੀਜੈ ਭੋਗ ਕਰੀਜੈ ਹਭਿ ਖੁਸੀਆ ਰੰਗ ਮਾਣੇ ॥
man laaleh deejai bhog kareejai habh khusee-aa rang maanay.
The soul-bride who surrenders her heart to her beloved God, enjoys the pleasure and bliss of His Union.
ਜੇਹੜੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਦੇ ਹਵਾਲੇ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਪਿਰੁ ਅਪਨਾ ਪਾਇਆ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਾਲੁ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਅਤਿ ਮਿਲਿਓ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਚਿਰਾਣੇ ॥
pir apnaa paa-i-aa rang laal banaa-i-aa at mili-o mitar chiraanay.
She unites with her husband-God, her long separated dear friend. Her soul is imbued with His deep love.
ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਮੁੱਢ ਕਦੀਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀ ਆਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਗੂੜ੍ਹਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਚਾੜ੍ਹ ਲੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ l
ਗੁਰੁ ਥੀਆ ਸਾਖੀ ਤਾ ਡਿਠਮੁ ਆਖੀ ਪਿਰ ਜੇਹਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦੀਸੈ ॥
gur thee-aa saakhee taa ditham aakhee pir jayhaa avar na deesai.
Since the Guru has become my intercessor, I have seen my husband-God with my spiritually enlightened eyes and no one else looks like Him.
ਜਦੋਂ ਤੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਮੇਰਾ ਵਿਚੋਲਾ ਬਣਿਆ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਵੇਖ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਵਰਗਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ।
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਛੰਤ ਦਇਆਲ ਮੋਹਨ ਕੇ ਮਨ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣ ਗਹੀਜੈ ਐਸੀ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਕੀਜੈ ॥੪॥੧॥੪॥
kaho naanak chhant da-i-aal mohan kay man har charan gaheejai aisee man pareet keejai. ||4||1||4||
Nanak says, O’ my mind, sing the praises of the merciful God and love Him like deer loves the hunter’s horn and young bride loves her groom. ||4||1||4||
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ ,ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਦਇਆ ਦੇ ਘਰ, ਤੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਮੋਹ ਲੈਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂ। ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਾਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ (ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਹਰਨ ਨਾਦ ਨਾਲ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਜਵਾਨ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਪਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ) ॥੪॥੧॥੪॥

ਬਨੁ ਬਨੁ ਫਿਰਤੀ ਖੋਜਤੀ ਹਾਰੀ ਬਹੁ ਅਵਗਾਹਿ ॥
ban ban firtee khojtee haaree baho avgaahi.
The humanity wandered searching Him from forest to forest and got tired.
ਸਾਰੀ ਲੁਕਾਈ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਹਰੇਕ ਜੰਗਲ ਖੋਜਦੀ ਫਿਰੀ, ਭਾਲ ਕਰ ਕਰ ਥੱਕ ਗਈ
ਨਾਨਕ ਭੇਟੇ ਸਾਧ ਜਬ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ॥੧॥
naanak bhaytay saaDh jab har paa-i-aa man maahi. ||1||
O’ Nanak, when some fortunate person meets the Guru and follows his (Guru’s) teachings, he realizes God within his mind. ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਜਿਸ ਵਡ-ਭਾਗੀ ਨੂੰ) ਜਦੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ) ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ ॥੧॥

ਜਾ ਕਉ ਖੋਜਹਿ ਅਸੰਖ ਮੁਨੀ ਅਨੇਕ ਤਪੇ ॥
jaa ka-o khojeh asaNkh munee anayk tapay.
God, whom a myriad of ascetics and innumerable penitents seek,
ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਸਮਾਧੀ-ਇਸਥਿਤ ਰਿਸ਼ੀ ਅਤੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਧੂਣੀਆਂ ਤਪਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਾਧੂ ਲੱਭਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਬ੍ਰਹਮੇ ਕੋਟਿ ਅਰਾਧਹਿ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਜਾਪ ਜਪੇ ॥
barahmay kot araaDheh gi-aanee jaap japay.
whom millions of Bahamas (the gods of creation) worship, and upon whom men of wisdom meditate.
ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਹੀ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਅਤੇ ਧਰਮ-ਪੁਸਤਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਦਵਾਨ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਜਾਪ ਜਪ ਕੇ ਆਰਾਧਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਜਪ ਤਾਪ ਸੰਜਮ ਕਿਰਿਆ ਪੂਜਾ ਅਨਿਕ ਸੋਧਨ ਬੰਦਨਾ ॥
jap taap sanjam kiri-aa poojaa anik soDhan bandnaa.
To realize that God, people do many types of devotional deeds like meditation, penitence, austerities, and go through countless purification techniques,
ਜਿਸ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਲੋਕ ਕਈ ਕਿਸਮ ਦੇ ਜਪ ਤਪ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਸ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਜਤਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਅਨੇਕਾਂ (ਮਿਥੀਆਂ) ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਰਸਮਾਂ ਤੇ ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਆਪਣੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਸਾਧਨ ਅਤੇ (ਡੰਡਉਤ) ਬੰਦਨਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਕਰਿ ਗਵਨੁ ਬਸੁਧਾ ਤੀਰਥਹ ਮਜਨੁ ਮਿਲਨ ਕਉ ਨਿਰੰਜਨਾ ॥
kar gavan basuDhaa teerthah majan milan ka-o niranjanaa.
Wandering all over the world and bathing at sacred shrines of pilgrimage are practiced by people to seek the immaculate God.
ਧਰਤੀ ਉਤੇ ਰਟਨ ਕਰਨ, ਅਤੇ ਧਰਮ ਅਸਥਾਨਾਂ ਤੇ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਬੰਦੇ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣਾ ਲੋੜਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਮਾਨੁਖ ਬਨੁ ਤਿਨੁ ਪਸੂ ਪੰਖੀ ਸਗਲ ਤੁਝਹਿ ਅਰਾਧਤੇ ॥
maanukh ban tin pasoo pankhee sagal tujheh araaDhatay.
O’ God, people, the entire vegetation, the forests, the animals, and all the birds follow Your command.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮਨੁੱਖ, ਜੰਗਲ, ਬਨਸਪਤੀ, ਪਸ਼ੂ, ਪੰਛੀ-ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਤੇਰਾ ਆਰਾਧਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਦਇਆਲ ਲਾਲ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਿਲੁ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਗਤੇ ॥੧॥
da-i-aal laal gobind naanak mil saaDhsangat ho-ay gatay. ||1||
Nanak says, O’ the merciful God, please bless me with the holy congregation so that I may attain the supreme spiritual state. ||1||
ਹੇ ਦਇਆ ਦੇ ਸੋਮੇ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਨਾਨਕ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਾ, ਤਾ ਕਿ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਏ ॥੧॥
ਕੋਟਿ ਬਿਸਨ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਸੰਕਰ ਜਟਾਧਾਰ ॥
kot bisan avtaar sankar jataaDhaar.
Millions of incarnations of Vishnu and Shiva, with matted hair,
ਵਿਸ਼ਨੂੰ ਦੇ ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਜਟਾਧਾਰੀ ਸ਼ਿਵ,
ਚਾਹਹਿ ਤੁਝਹਿ ਦਇਆਰ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਰੁਚ ਅਪਾਰ ॥
chaaheh tujheh da-i-aar man tan ruch apaar.
yearn for You, O Merciful God; their minds and bodies are filled with infinite longing to unite with You.
ਤੈਨੂੰ (ਮਿਲਣਾ) ਲੋਚਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ (ਤੇਰੇ ਮਿਲਣ ਦੀ) ਤਾਂਘ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਅਪਾਰ ਅਗਮ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਸਗਲ ਪੂਰਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਧਨੀ ॥

O’ infinite and incomprehensible God, O’ the Master and the wish-fulfiller of all,
ਹੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ! ਹੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ! ਹੇ ਸਭ ਦੀ ਕਾਮਨਾ ਪੂਰੀ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਸਭ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ!
ਸੁਰ ਸਿਧ ਗਣ ਗੰਧਰਬ ਧਿਆਵਹਿ ਜਖ ਕਿੰਨਰ ਗੁਣ ਭਨੀ ॥
sur siDh gan ganDharab Dhi-aavahi jakh kinnar gun bhanee.
the angels, the attendants of Shiva, the heavenly musicians, the gods and the mythical dancers sing Your praises.
ਦੇਵਤੇ, ਜੋਗ-ਸਾਧਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪੁੱਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਜੋਗੀ, ਸ਼ਿਵ ਦੇ ਗਣ, ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਗੀ, ਜੱਖ, ਕਿੰਨਰ , ਤੇਰਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਗੁਣ ਉਚਾਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਕੋਟਿ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਅਨੇਕ ਦੇਵਾ ਜਪਤ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਜੈ ਜੈ ਕਾਰ ॥
kot indar anayk dayvaa japat su-aamee jai jai kaar.
Millions of Indaras and countless gods meditate on God and hail His victory.
ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਇੰਦਰ, ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਦੇਵਤੇ, ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਜੈਕਾਰ ਜਪਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਅਨਾਥ ਨਾਥ ਦਇਆਲ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਉਧਾਰ ॥੨॥
anaath naath da-i-aal naanak saaDhsangat mil uDhaar. ||2||
O’ Nanak, one can swim across the world-ocean of vices by joining the holy congregation and realizing God, the merciful Master of the helpless ||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਸ ਨਿਖਸਮਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਖਸਮ, ਦਇਆ ਦੇ ਸੋਮੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਬੇੜਾ ਪਾਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਕੋਟਿ ਦੇਵੀ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਲਖਿਮੀ ਅਨਿਕ ਭਾਤਿ ॥
kot dayvee jaa ka-o sayveh lakhimee anik bhaat.
Millions of gods and the goddesses of wealth serve Him in many different ways,
ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਦੇਵੀਆਂ ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਧਨ ਦੀ ਦੇਵੀ ਲਛਮੀ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਤਰੀਕਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ,
