ਬਿਖਮੋ ਬਿਖਮੁ ਅਖਾੜਾ ਮੈ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਜੀਤਾ ਰਾਮ ॥
bikhmo bikham akhaarhaa mai gur mil jeetaa raam.
O’ God, by meeting and following the Guru’s teachings, I have won the most arduous battle in the arena of life.
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਇਹ ਬੜਾ ਔਖਾ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਅਖਾੜਾ ਜਿੱਤ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਜੀਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਤਾ ਤੂਟੀ ਭੀਤਾ ਭਰਮ ਗੜਾ ॥
gur mil jeetaa har har keetaa tootee bheetaa bharam garhaa.
By following the Guru’s teachings, I meditated on God’s Name; the walls of the fort of illusion got demolished and I became victorious.
ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਕੀਤਾ, ਸੰਦੇਹ ਦੇ ਕਿਲੇ ਦੀਆਂ ਕੰਧਾਂ ਢਾਹ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਜਿੱਤ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਈ।
ਪਾਇਆ ਖਜਾਨਾ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਨਿਧਾਨਾ ਸਾਣਥ ਮੇਰੀ ਆਪਿ ਖੜਾ ॥
paa-i-aa khajaanaa bahut niDhaanaa saanath mayree aap kharhaa.
I have attained an inexhaustible treasure of Naam and now God Himself is standing as my helper.
ਮੈਂ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਇਕ ਵੱਡਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਉਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ (ਮੇਰੇ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ) ਆ ਖਲੋਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਸੋਈ ਸੁਗਿਆਨਾ ਸੋ ਪਰਧਾਨਾ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਅਪਨਾ ਕੀਤਾ ॥
so-ee sugi-aanaa so parDhaanaa jo parabh apnaa keetaa.
That person is spiritually wise and distinguished whom God has made His own.
ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਚੰਗੀ ਸੂਝ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਮੰਨਿਆ-ਪ੍ਰਮੰਨਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣਾ (ਸੇਵਕ) ਬਣਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਾਂ ਵਲਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਤਾ ਸਰਸੇ ਭਾਈ ਮੀਤਾ ॥੪॥੧॥
kaho naanak jaaN val su-aamee taa sarsay bhaa-ee meetaa. ||4||1||
Nanak says, when God is on our side then all our siblings and friends are also pleased with us. ||4||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਦੋਂ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪੱਖ ਤੇ ਹੋਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਭਰਾ ਭੀ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੪॥੧॥

Raag Aasaa, Fifth Guru:
ਅਕਥਾ ਹਰਿ ਅਕਥ ਕਥਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਜਾਇ ਨ ਜਾਣੀ ਰਾਮ ॥
akthaa har akath kathaa kichh jaa-ay na jaanee raam.
The praises of the incomprehensible God are indescribable; even a bit of God’s virtues can’t be understood through our own egotistical cleverness.
ਨਾਂ ਵਰਨਣ ਹੋ ਸਕਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਬਿਆਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਹੈ, ਆਪਣੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਦੇ ਆਧਾਰ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ, ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ ਸਾਲਾਹ ਨਾਲ ਜਾਣ-ਪਛਾਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਈ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ।
ਸੁਰਿ ਨਰ ਸੁਰਿ ਨਰ ਮੁਨਿ ਜਨ ਸਹਜਿ ਵਖਾਣੀ ਰਾਮ ॥
sur nar sur nar mun jan sahj vakhaanee raam.
Only the devotees with angelic and sagely disposition sing the praises of God in a state of peace and poise.
ਦੈਵੀ ਸੁਭਾਵ ਵਾਲੇ ਸ਼ਾਂਤ-ਚਿੱਤ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸਹਜੇ ਵਖਾਣੀ ਅਮਿਉ ਬਾਣੀ ਚਰਣ ਕਮਲ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਾਇਆ ॥
sehjay vakhaanee ami-o banee charan kamal rang laa-i-aa.
Those who recited the ambrosial divine words of God’s praises have imbued themselves with the love of God.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕੀਤੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਕੋਮਲ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਪਾ ਲਿਆ,
ਜਪਿ ਏਕੁ ਅਲਖੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਮਨ ਚਿੰਦਿਆ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
jap ayk alakh parabh niranjan man chindi-aa fal paa-i-aa.
They have attained the fruit of their heart’s desire by meditating on the incomprehensible and immaculate God.
ਉਸ ਇੱਕ ਅਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟ ਤੇ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਮਨ-ਚਿਤਵਿਆ ਫਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ।
ਤਜਿ ਮਾਨੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਵਿਕਾਰੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ॥
taj maan moh vikaar doojaa jotee jot samaanee.
Those who renounced their self-conceit, emotional attachment, vices and duality and attune their concious to the supreme light,
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਰੱਬੀ ਨੂਰ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਲਈ,
ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦੀ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਮਾਣੀ ॥੧॥
binvant naanak gur parsaadee sadaa har rang maanee. ||1||
Nanak humbly submits that by the grace of the Guru they enjoy the love of God forever. ||1||
ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
ਹਰਿ ਸੰਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਸੰਤ ਸਜਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਮੀਤ ਸਹਾਈ ਰਾਮ ॥
har santaa har sant sajan mayray meet sahaa-ee raam.
The saints of God are my friends, mates and helpers.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਹਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਸੱਜਣ ਹਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਥੀ ਹਨ।
ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਪਾਈ ਰਾਮ ॥
vadbhaagee vadbhaagee satsangat paa-ee raam.
It is by great good fortune, I have attained the holy congregation.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਮੈਂ ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਬੜੀ ਉੱਚੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ।
ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਪਾਏ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਏ ਲਾਥੇ ਦੂਖ ਸੰਤਾਪੈ ॥
vadbhaagee paa-ay naam Dhi-aa-ay laathay dookh santaapai.
One who by good fortune finds such a holy company and meditates on Naam, all his pains and sorrows are removed.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼-ਕਿਸਮਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ (ਸਦਾ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣੀ ਲਾਗੇ ਭ੍ਰਮ ਭਉ ਭਾਗੇ ਆਪੁ ਮਿਟਾਇਆ ਆਪੈ ॥
gur charnee laagay bharam bha-o bhaagay aap mitaa-i-aa aapai.
One who follows the Guru’s teachings, his dread and doubt vanishes and he erases his self-conceit.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਬੰਦਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨੀਂ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਡਰ-ਸਹਮ ਖ਼ਤਮ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ (ਅਹੰਕਾਰ) ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਮੇਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਅਪੁਨੈ ਵਿਛੁੜਿ ਕਤਹਿ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
kar kirpaa maylay parabh apunai vichhurh kateh na jaa-ee.
Granting His Grace, the one whom God unites with Himself; he never separates from Him.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਲਿਆ, ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਵਿਛੁੜ ਕੇ ਹੋਰ ਕਿਧਰੇ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ।
ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥੨॥
binvant naanak daas tayraa sadaa har sarnaa-ee. ||2||
Nanak prays, O’ God, I am Your devotee, always keep me in Your refuge. ||2||
ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ-ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਦਾਸ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖ ॥੨॥
ਹਰਿ ਦਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਿ ਸੋਹਨਿ ਤੇਰੇ ਭਗਤ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਰਾਮ ॥
har daray har dar sohan tayray bhagat pi-aaray raam.
O’ God, Your devotees look beauteous in Your presence.
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ, ਤੇਰੇ ਬੂਹੇ ਤੇ (ਖਲੋਤੇ) ਤੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਭਗਤ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਲੱਗ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
ਵਾਰੀ ਤਿਨ ਵਾਰੀ ਜਾਵਾ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੇ ਰਾਮ ॥
vaaree tin vaaree jaavaa sad balihaaray raam.
O’ God, I forever dedicate myself to those devotees of Yours.
ਮੈਂ (ਤੇਰੇ) ਉਹਨਾਂ (ਭਗਤਾਂ) ਤੋਂ ਵਾਰਨੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੇ ਕਰਿ ਨਮਸਕਾਰੇ ਜਿਨ ਭੇਟਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਤਾ ॥
sad balihaaray kar namaskaaray jin bhaytat parabh jaataa.
I humbly bow and dedicate myself to those, meeting whom I have realized God.
ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਅੱਗੇ ਸਿਰ ਨਿਵਾ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਦੁਆਰਾ, ਮੈਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਭ ਥਾਈ ਪੂਰਨ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ॥
ghat ghat rav rahi-aa sabh thaa-ee pooran purakh biDhaataa.
The all pervading Creator is present in each and every heart and everywhere.
ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਾਇਆ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਜੂਐ ਜਨਮੁ ਨ ਹਾਰੇ ॥
gur pooraa paa-i-aa naam Dhi-aa-i-aa joo-ai janam na haaray.
One who meets the perfect Guru, meditates on Naam and does not lose the game of human life.
ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ (ਜੁਆਰੀਏ ਵਾਂਗ) ਜੂਏ ਵਿਚ (ਮਨੁੱਖਾ) ਜਨਮ (ਦੀ ਬਾਜ਼ੀ) ਨਹੀਂ ਹਾਰਦਾ।
ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਣਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਾਖੁ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੇ ॥੩॥
binvant naanak saran tayree raakh kirpaa Dhaaray. ||3||
Nanak prays, O’ God, show mercy and save me too from losing the game of human life. ||3||
ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ-ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ, ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਜੂਏ ਵਿਚ ਜੀਵਨ-ਬਾਜ਼ੀ ਹਾਰਨ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾ ਲੈ ॥੩॥
ਬੇਅੰਤਾ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਗੁਣ ਤੇਰੇ ਕੇਤਕ ਗਾਵਾ ਰਾਮ ॥
bay-antaa bay-ant gun tayray kaytak gaavaa raam.
O’ God, infinite are Your virtues, how many of these can I sing?
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਗੁਣ ਹਨ, ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਸਕਦਾ। ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਕਿਤਨੇ ਕੁ ਗੁਣ ਗਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ?
ਤੇਰੇ ਚਰਣਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਚਰਣ ਧੂੜਿ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਪਾਵਾ ਰਾਮ ॥
tayray charnaa tayray charan Dhoorh vadbhaagee paavaa raam.
O’ God, it would be my great good fortune if I could get obtain the dust of Your feet (imbued with Your loving devotion).
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗ ਹੋਣ ਤਾਂ ਹੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਤੇਰੇ (ਸੋਹਣੇ) ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਧੂੜੀ ਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਈਐ ਮੈਲੁ ਗਵਾਈਐ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਦੁਖ ਲਾਥੇ ॥
har Dhoorhee nHaa-ee-ai mail gavaa-ee-ai janam maran dukh laathay.
By meditating on God’s Name the filth of vices is washed off and pains of birth and death ends.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਵਿਚ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ) ਦੀ ਮੈਲ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ (ਸਾਰੀ ਉਮਰ ਦੇ) ਦੁੱਖ ਲਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਸਦਾ ਹਦੂਰੇ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਾਥੇ ॥
antar baahar sadaa hadooray parmaysar parabh saathay.
And one realizes that God is always with us everywhere.
ਇਹ ਨਿਸ਼ਚਾ ਭੀ ਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਪਰਮੇਸਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਾਡੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਅਤੇ ਬਾਹਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ ਸਾਡੇ ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ
ਮਿਟੇ ਦੂਖ ਕਲਿਆਣ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਜੋਨਿ ਨ ਪਾਵਾ ॥
mitay dookh kali-aan keertan bahurh jon na paavaa.
By singing God’s praises, sufferings have departed, peace has ensued and now I would not be consigned to births again.
(ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸੁਖ-ਆਨੰਦ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਮੁੜ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦਾ
ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਿ ਤਰੀਐ ਆਪਣੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਵਾ ॥੪॥੨॥
binvant naanak gur saran taree-ai aapnay parabh bhaavaa. ||4||2||
Nanak prays, by following the Guru’s teaching, I may become pleasing to God and swim across the worldly ocean of vices. ||4||2||
ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ-ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਜੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਭੀ) ਆਪਣੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਣ ਲੱਗ ਪਵਾਂ ॥੪॥੨॥

One eternal God, realized by the grace of the true Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਮਨੁ ਬੇਧਿਆ ਕਿਛੁ ਆਨ ਨ ਮੀਠਾ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਜੇ ॥
har charan kamal man bayDhi-aa kichh aan na meethaa raam raajay.
Nothing else seems pleasing to the one whose mind is captivated by the immaculate love of the sovereign God.
ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਕੋਮਲ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰੋਤਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਚੀਜ਼ ਮਿੱਠੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਦੀ।
ਮਿਲਿ ਸੰਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਆਰਾਧਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਘਟਿ ਘਟੇ ਡੀਠਾ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਜੇ ॥
mil santsangat aaraaDhi-aa har ghat ghatay deethaa raam raajay.
Joining the holy congregation such a person meditates on God’s Name and is able to realize Him in everyone.
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਦਿੱਸ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਘਟਿ ਘਟੇ ਡੀਠਾ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੋੁ ਵੂਠਾ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੁਖ ਨਾਠੇ ॥
har ghat ghatay deethaa amrito voothaa janam maran dukh naathay.
When he realizes God in every heart, the ambrosial nectar of Naam rains down in his heart and all his pains of life go away.
(ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਦੁੱਖ (ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ) ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧਿ ਗਾਇਆ ਸਭ ਦੂਖ ਮਿਟਾਇਆ ਹਉਮੈ ਬਿਨਸੀ ਗਾਠੇ ॥
gun niDh gaa-i-aa sabh dookh mitaa-i-aa ha-umai binsee gaathay.
By singing praises of God, the treasure of all virtues, he dispels all the sorrow and the tangled ego within him is destroyed.
ਉਹ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪਣੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਮਿਟਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੀ ਗੰਢ ਖੁਲ੍ਹ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
