ਓਹੁ ਜੇਵ ਸਾਇਰ ਦੇਇ ਲਹਰੀ ਬਿਜੁਲ ਜਿਵੈ ਚਮਕਏ ॥
oh jayv saa-ir day-ay lahree bijul jivai chamka-ay.
The fruit of Maya is short lived like waves on the sea and the flash of lightning.
(ਉਂਝ ਹੈ ਭੀ ਇਹ ਥੋੜਾ ਸਮਾ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ) ਜਿਵੇਂ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਲਹਿਰਾਂ ਮਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਾਂ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਬਿਜਲੀ ਲਿਸ਼ਕ ਮਾਰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਬਾਝੁ ਰਾਖਾ ਕੋਇ ਨਾਹੀ ਸੋਇ ਤੁਝਹਿ ਬਿਸਾਰਿਆ ॥
har baajh raakhaa ko-ay naahee so-ay tujheh bisaari-aa.
You have forsaken the same God, without whom there is no other savior.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਸਦਾ ਨਾਲ ਨਿਭਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਰਾਖਾ ਨਹੀਂ , ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਭੁਲਾਈ ਬੈਠਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਸਚੁ ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਚੇਤਿ ਰੇ ਮਨ ਮਰਹਿ ਹਰਣਾ ਕਾਲਿਆ ॥੧॥
sach kahai naanak chayt ray man mareh harnaa kaali-aa. ||1||
Nanak says the truth, O’ my mind, meditate on God, otherwise you would get spiritually killed like the black deer in the pursuit of false worldly pleasures. ||1||
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੱਚ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ-ਹੇ ਕਾਲੇ ਹਰਨ! ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰ, ਨਹੀਂ ਤਾਂ (ਇਸ ਜਗਤ-ਫੁਲਵਾੜੀ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ) ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਸਹੇੜ ਲਏਂਗਾ ॥੧॥
ਭਵਰਾ ਫੂਲਿ ਭਵੰਤਿਆ ਦੁਖੁ ਅਤਿ ਭਾਰੀ ਰਾਮ ॥
bhavraa fool bhavanti-aa dukh at bhaaree raam.
O’ my mind, You are going from one worldly pleasure to another, like a black bee flying from one flower to the other; terrible pain is awaiting you.
ਹੇ (ਹਰੇਕ) ਫੁੱਲ ਉੱਤੇ ਉੱਡਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਭੌਰੇ (ਮਨ!) (ਫੁੱਲ ਫੁੱਲ ਦੀ ਸੁਗੰਧੀ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਫਿਰਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਬੜਾ ਭਾਰੀ ਦੁੱਖ ਨਿਕਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮੈ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਛਿਆ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਾਚਾ ਬੀਚਾਰੀ ਰਾਮ ॥
mai gur poochhi-aa aapnaa saachaa beechaaree raam.
After asking my Guru, i have truly reflected on the situation.
ਅਸਲੀਅਤ ਦੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ, ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ ਹੈ l
ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੁਝੈ ਪੂਛਿਆ ਭਵਰੁ ਬੇਲੀ ਰਾਤਓ ॥
beechaar satgur mujhai poochhi-aa bhavar baylee raata-o.
Yes, I after reflecting, I have asked the true Guru, what will happen to this mind which is engrossed in worldly pleasures like the black bee engrossed in flowers.
ਹਾਂ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਮਨ-ਭੌਰਾ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ-ਰੂਪ ਫੁਲ-ਬੇਲਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਗਨ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਦਾ ਹਾਲ ਕੀ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ?
ਸੂਰਜੁ ਚੜਿਆ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਪੜਿਆ ਤੇਲੁ ਤਾਵਣਿ ਤਾਤਓ ॥
sooraj charhi-aa pind parhi-aa tayl taavan taata-o.
He replied that when the night of life ends, the body collapses and suffers extreme pain, as if put into a hot cauldron of oil.
ਮੈਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਮਤਿ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਜਦੋਂ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੀ ਰਾਤ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਢਹਿ ਢੇਰੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਕਰਕੇ ਜੀਵ ਇਉਂ ਦੁਖੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਜਿਵੇਂ) ਤੇਲ ਤਾਉੜੀ ਵਿਚ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਤਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਮ ਮਗਿ ਬਾਧਾ ਖਾਹਿ ਚੋਟਾ ਸਬਦ ਬਿਨੁ ਬੇਤਾਲਿਆ ॥
jam mag baaDhaa khaahi chotaa sabad bin baytaali-aa.
O’ mortal, without the Guru’s teachings, you are wandering like a ghost; bound in the fear of death, you would endure pain.
ਹੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝ ਕੇ ਭੂਤਨਾ ਹੋਏ ਹੋਏ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ! ਜਮਰਾਜ ਦੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਵਿਚ ਬੱਝਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਚੋਟਾਂ ਖਾਵੇਂਗਾ।
ਸਚੁ ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਚੇਤਿ ਰੇ ਮਨ ਮਰਹਿ ਭਵਰਾ ਕਾਲਿਆ ॥੨॥
sach kahai naanak chayt ray man mareh bhavraa kaali-aa. ||2||
Nanak says the truth: O’ my mind, meditate on God, otherwise you would spiritually die like a black bee. ||2||
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ-ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰ, ਨਹੀਂ ਤਾਂ ਭੌਰੇ (ਵਾਂਗ ਫੁੱਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਸਤ ਹੋਏ ਮਨ!) ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਸਹੇੜ ਲਏਂਗਾ ॥੨॥
ਮੇਰੇ ਜੀਅੜਿਆ ਪਰਦੇਸੀਆ ਕਿਤੁ ਪਵਹਿ ਜੰਜਾਲੇ ਰਾਮ ॥
mayray jee-arhi-aa pardaysee-aa kit paveh janjaalay raam.
O’ my stranger mind, why are you getting caught in worldly entanglements?
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਰਦੇਸੀ ਜੀਵਾਤਮਾ! ਤੂੰ ਕਿਉਂ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ) ਜੰਜਾਲ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ?
ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਕੀ ਫਾਸਹਿ ਜਮ ਜਾਲੇ ਰਾਮ ॥
saachaa saahib man vasai kee faaseh jam jaalay raam.
If you realize the eternal God dwelling in the heart, then you will not be entrapped in the noose of death.
ਜੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਤੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੋਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਤੂੰ ਜਮ ਦੇ ਖਿਲਾਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਜਾਲ ਵਿਚ ਕਿਉਂ ਫਸੇਂ?
ਮਛੁਲੀ ਵਿਛੁੰਨੀ ਨੈਣ ਰੁੰਨੀ ਜਾਲੁ ਬਧਿਕਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
machhulee vichhunnee nain runnee jaal baDhik paa-i-aa.
The fish gets caught in the fisherman’s net due to its greed for the bait and while leaving the water it suffers so much pain as if it is crying with tearful eyes.
ਜਦੋਂ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਰੀ ਨੇ ਜਾਲ ਪਾਇਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਮੱਛੀ (ਭਿੱਤੀ ਦੇ ਲੱਬ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ ਜਾਲ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਤੋਂ) ਵਿਛੁੜ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਤਦੋਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਭਰ ਕੇ ਰੋਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਮੀਠਾ ਅੰਤਿ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥
sansaar maa-i-aa moh meethaa ant bharam chukaa-i-aa.
Similarly, people caught in the greed of worldly attractions regret in the end when illusion of Maya is removed.
ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅੰਤ ਵੇਲੇ ਜਦੋਂ ਇਹ ਭੁਲੇਖਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਦੋਂ ਜਿੰਦ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ
ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਛੋਡਿ ਮਨਹੁ ਅੰਦੇਸਿਆ ॥
bhagat kar chit laa-ay har si-o chhod manhu andaysi-aa.
O’ my mind, devote yourself to the devotional worship of God with full concentration and cast away all the doubts.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੇ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਫ਼ਿਕਰ-ਅੰਦੇਸ਼ੇ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲੈ।
ਸਚੁ ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਚੇਤਿ ਰੇ ਮਨ ਜੀਅੜਿਆ ਪਰਦੇਸੀਆ ॥੩॥
sach kahai naanak chayt ray man jee-arhi-aa pardaysee-aa. ||3||
Nanak says the truth, O’ my stranger mind, lovingly remember God. ||3||
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੱਚ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ-ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਰਦੇਸੀ ਜੀਊੜੇ! ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰ ॥੩॥
ਨਦੀਆ ਵਾਹ ਵਿਛੁੰਨਿਆ ਮੇਲਾ ਸੰਜੋਗੀ ਰਾਮ ॥
nadee-aa vaah vichhunni-aa maylaa sanjogee raam.
Streams separated from the river reunite only by chance, the souls separated from God reunite with Him only by His grace.
ਨਦੀਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਵਿਛੁੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਵਹਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਮੁੜ ਮੇਲ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਵਿਛੁੜੇ ਜੀਵ ਮੁੜ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਜੁਗੁ ਜੁਗੁ ਮੀਠਾ ਵਿਸੁ ਭਰੇ ਕੋ ਜਾਣੈ ਜੋਗੀ ਰਾਮ ॥
jug jug meethaa vis bharay ko jaanai jogee raam.
Only a rare spiritually wise person understands that the love of Maya (worldly attachments) though sweet, is always full of poison.
ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਇਆ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਪਰ ਸਦਾ ਜ਼ਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਕੋਈ ਸਹਜਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਹਰਿ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਜਿਨਿ ਚੇਤਿਆ ॥
ko-ee sahj jaanai har pachhaanai satguroo jin chayti-aa.
Only a rare person who remembers the true Guru’s teachings, understands this truth and intuitively realizes God.
ਅਜੇਹਾ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਬੰਦਾ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਚੇਤੇ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੈ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਇਸੇ ਅਸਲੀਅਤ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਮ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੂਲੇ ਪਚਹਿ ਮੁਗਧ ਅਚੇਤਿਆ ॥
bin naam har kay bharam bhoolay pacheh mugaDh achayti-aa.
Without meditating on God’s Name, many thoughtless fools wander in the illusion of Maya and are spiritually ruined.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਮੂਰਖ ਗ਼ਾਫ਼ਿਲ ਜੀਵ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਰਿਦੈ ਸਾਚਾ ਸੇ ਅੰਤਿ ਧਾਹੀ ਰੁੰਨਿਆ ॥
har naam bhagat na ridai saachaa say ant Dhaahee runni-aa.
Yes, those who do not meditate on God’s Name and who do not enshrine Him in their hearts, ultimately cry bitterly in the end.
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ, ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਸਾਂਦੇ, ਉਹ ਆਖ਼ਰ ਢਾਹਾਂ ਮਾਰ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਰੋਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸਚੁ ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਮੇਲਿ ਚਿਰੀ ਵਿਛੁੰਨਿਆ ॥੪॥੧॥੫॥
sach kahai naanak sabad saachai mayl chiree vichhunni-aa. ||4||1||5||
Nanak says the truth, that by attuning to the Guru’s divine word, the eternal God unites the long separated souls with Him. ||4||1||5||
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ-ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਚਿਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਵਿਛੁੜੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਮਿਲਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੧॥੫॥
ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

One eternal God, realized by the grace of the true Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।

ham gharay saachaa sohilaa saachai sabad suhaa-i-aa raam.
My heart is adorned with the Guru’s word of God’s praises and a song of true happiness is playing in my heart.
ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਗੀਤ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਵਾਲੇ ਗੁਰ-ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਨੂੰ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਧਨ ਪਿਰ ਮੇਲੁ ਭਇਆ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਰਾਮ ॥
Dhan pir mayl bha-i-aa parabh aap milaa-i-aa raam.
The soul-bride has met her Husband-God and He Himself has caused this union.
ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਜੋੜ ਲਿਆ।
ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਸਚੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇਆ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਸਹਜੇ ਮਾਤੀ ॥
parabh aap milaa-i-aa sach man vasaa-i-aa kaaman sehjay maatee.
God enshrined Naam in the mind of the soul-bride, she intuitively became imbued with His love and then God united her with Himself.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਆਪ (ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਜੋੜਿਆ, ਆਪਣਾ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਨਾਮ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਉਹ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ (ਫਿਰ) ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੀਗਾਰੀ ਸਚਿ ਸਵਾਰੀ ਸਦਾ ਰਾਵੇ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੀ ॥
gur sabad seegaaree sach savaaree sadaa raavay rang raatee.
Embellished by the Guru’s word, she is adorned with truthful living; imbued with God’s love, she always enjoys His company.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੇ (ਉਸ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ) ਸਿੰਗਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਨੇ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ) ਸੋਹਣਾ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਉਹ (ਫਿਰ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੀ ਹੋਈ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ) ਮਾਣਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਏ ਹਰਿ ਵਰੁ ਪਾਏ ਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇਆ ॥
aap gavaa-ay har var paa-ay taa har ras man vasaa-i-aa.
By eradicating ego, when she realizes her Husband-God, then she enshrines the elixir of God’s Name within her mind.
ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਕੇ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਭ ਲੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਤਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਦ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ (ਸਦਾ ਲਈ) ਵਸਾ ਲੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਵਾਰੀ ਸਫਲਿਉ ਜਨਮੁ ਸਬਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
kaho naanak gur sabad savaaree safli-o janam sabaa-i-aa. ||1||
Nanak says, the soul-bride who is embellished through the Guru’s word; all her life becomes fruitful ||1||
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਕਾਮਯਾਬ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਦੂਜੜੈ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲੀ ਹਰਿ ਵਰੁ ਨ ਪਾਏ ਰਾਮ ॥
doojrhai kaaman bharam bhulee har var na paa-ay raam.
The soul-bride who is led astray by duality and doubt, does not unite with her Husband-God.
ਜੇਹੜੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਆਦਿਕ ਦੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ।
ਕਾਮਣਿ ਗੁਣੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਏ ਰਾਮ ॥
kaaman gun naahee birthaa janam gavaa-ay raam.
That soul-bride does not inculcate virtues and she wastes her life in vain.
ਉਹ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਕੋਈ ਆਤਮਕ) ਗੁਣ ਪੈਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੀ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਗਵਾ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਏ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਇਆਣੀ ਅਉਗਣਵੰਤੀ ਝੂਰੇ ॥
birthaa janam gavaa-ay manmukh i-aanee a-uganvantee jhooray.
Yes, the foolish self-conceited bride who is without any virtues wastes her life in vain and keeps repenting.
ਆਪ ਹੁਦਰੀ ਬੇਸਮਝ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਨਾਹਗਾਰ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਆਪਣਾਜੀਵਨ ਅਜਾਈਂ ਗਵਾ ਲੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ,ਅਤੇ ਪਛਤਾਉਂਦੀਂ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਆਪਣਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਤਾ ਪਿਰੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹਦੂਰੇ ॥
aapnaa satgur sayv sadaa sukh paa-i-aa taa pir mili-aa hadooray.
By serving her true Guru and by following his advice, she found eternal peace and realized her Husband-God within and around her.
ਪਰ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਅਮਰ ਆਨੰਦ ਲੱਭਾ ਤਦੋਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਅੰਗ ਸੰਗ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ।
ਦੇਖਿ ਪਿਰੁ ਵਿਗਸੀ ਅੰਦਰਹੁ ਸਰਸੀ ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਭਾਏ ॥
daykh pir vigsee andrahu sarsee sachai sabad subhaa-ay.
Upon beholding her Husband-God, she bloomed with joy and felt blissful, and merged in His love through the Guru’s divine word.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਖਿੜ ਪਈ, ਉਹ ਅੰਤਰ-ਆਤਮੇ ਆਨੰਦ-ਮਗਨ ਹੋ ਗਈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਵਾਲੇ ਗੁਰ-ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਗਈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਣੀ ਮਿਲਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥੨॥
naanak vin naavai kaaman bharam bhulaanee mil pareetam sukh paa-ay. ||2||
O’ Nanak, without meditating on Naam, the soul-bride remains deluded in doubts; she enjoys bliss upon meeting her beloved-God. ||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝ ਕੇ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਈ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
