ਧਨ ਪਿਰਹਿ ਮੇਲਾ ਹੋਇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਆਪਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੇ ॥
Dhan pireh maylaa ho-ay su-aamee aap parabh kirpaa karay.
The union between the soul-bride and the Husband-God happens only when God Himself shows His mercy.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਆਪ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸੇਜਾ ਸੁਹਾਵੀ ਸੰਗਿ ਪਿਰ ਕੈ ਸਾਤ ਸਰ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਭਰੇ ॥
sayjaa suhaavee sang pir kai saat sar amrit bharay.
Her heart becomes embellished in the company of her Husband-God and her seven pools (five sense faculties, mind, and intellect) become filled with ambrosial nectar of Naam.
ਪਤੀ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਹਿਰਦਾ-ਸੇਜ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪੰਜ ਗਿਆਨ-ਇੰਦ੍ਰੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਬੁੱਧੀ ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਨਾਮ-ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਕਰਿ ਦਇਆ ਮਇਆ ਦਇਆਲ ਸਾਚੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਓ ॥
kar da-i-aa ma-i-aa da-i-aal saachay sabad mil gun gaava-o.
O’ merciful eternal God, show mercy and kindness upon me so that I may become attuned to the Guru’s word and sing Your praises.
ਹੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਦਇਆਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ, ਮੈਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਾਂ।
ਨਾਨਕਾ ਹਰਿ ਵਰੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਬਿਗਸੀ ਮੁੰਧ ਮਨਿ ਓਮਾਹਓ ॥੧॥
naankaa har var daykh bigsee munDh man omaaha-o. ||1||
O’ Nanak, upon beholding her Husband-God, the soul-bride is delighted and her mind is filled with joy. ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਪਣੇ ਹਰੀ-ਖਸਮ ਦਾ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਕਰ ਕੇਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਮੁੰਧ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਲੋਨੜੀਏ ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਬਿਨੰਤੀ ਰਾਮ ॥
munDh sahj salonrhee-ay ik paraym binantee raam.
O’ the calm and composed soul-bride with most beautiful eyes, I have a loving submission to make.
ਹੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕੀ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਨੇਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਏ! ਮੇਰੀ ਇਕ ਪਿਆਰ-ਭਰੀ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਸੁਣ।
ਮੈ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਵੈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੰਗਮਿ ਰਾਤੀ ਰਾਮ ॥
mai man tan har bhaavai parabh sangam raatee raam.
(Please teach me, that) God may look pleasing to my mind and body and I may be imbued with God’s love.
(ਮੈਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਰਾਹੇ ਪਾ ਕਿ) ਮੈਨੂੰ ਭਗਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗੇ ਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਰੱਤੀ ਜਾਵਾਂ।
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪ੍ਰੇਮਿ ਰਾਤੀ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੰਤੀ ਨਾਮਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਸੁਖਿ ਵਸੈ ॥
parabh paraym raatee har binantee naam har kai sukh vasai.
The soul-bride who is imbued with God’s love and continues praying before Him; she lives in spiritual peace by attuning herself to God’s Name.
ਜੇਹੜੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਤੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਬੇਨਤੀਆਂ ਕਰਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੀਵਨ ਬਿਤੀਤ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਤਉ ਗੁਣ ਪਛਾਣਹਿ ਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਗੁਣਹ ਵਸਿ ਅਵਗਣ ਨਸੈ ॥
ta-o gun pachhaaneh taa parabh jaaneh gunah vas avgan nasai.
If you recognize His virtues, then you would come to know God; His virtues would dwell in you and your faults would vanish.
ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਉਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਨੇਕੀਆਂ ਜਾਣ ਲਵੇਂ ਤਦ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣ ਲਵੇਗੀ। ਨੇਕੀਆਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਟਿੱਕ ਜਾਣਗੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਬਦੀਆਂ ਦੌੜ ਜਾਣਗੀਆਂ।
ਤੁਧੁ ਬਾਝੁ ਇਕੁ ਤਿਲੁ ਰਹਿ ਨ ਸਾਕਾ ਕਹਣਿ ਸੁਨਣਿ ਨ ਧੀਜਏ ॥
tuDh baajh ik til reh na saakaa kahan sunan na Dheej-ay.
O’ God, I cannot spiritually survive without remembering You even for a moment; my mind is not consoled by merely talking and listening.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਤੈਥੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਇਕ ਤਿਲ ਜਿਤਨਾ ਸਮਾ ਭੀ ਜੀਊ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀ , ਕੁਝ ਆਖਣ ਨਾਲ ਜਾਂ ਸੁਣਨ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਧੀਰਜ ਨਹੀਂ ਫੜਦਾ।
ਨਾਨਕਾ ਪ੍ਰਿਉ ਪ੍ਰਿਉ ਕਰਿ ਪੁਕਾਰੇ ਰਸਨ ਰਸਿ ਮਨੁ ਭੀਜਏ ॥੨॥
naankaa pari-o pari-o kar pukaaray rasan ras man bheej-ay. ||2||
O’ Nanak, the soul-bride who keeps remembering her beloved, her tongue and mind get fully immersed in the elixir of God’s Name. ||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇਹੜੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ‘ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ! ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ!’ ਆਖ ਆਖ ਕੇ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਜੀਭ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਵਿਚ ਭਿੱਜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਸਖੀਹੋ ਸਹੇਲੜੀਹੋ ਮੇਰਾ ਪਿਰੁ ਵਣਜਾਰਾ ਰਾਮ ॥
sakheeho sahaylrheeho mayraa pir vanjaaraa raam.
O’ my companions and friends, my Husband-God is a merchant of love.
ਹੇ (ਸਤਸੰਗੀ) ਸਹੇਲੀਹੋ! ਮੇਰਾ ਪਤੀ-ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦਾ ਵਪਾਰੀ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੋੁ ਵਣੰਜੜਿਆ ਰਸਿ ਮੋਲਿ ਅਪਾਰਾ ਰਾਮ ॥
har naamo vananjrhi-aa ras mol apaaraa raam.
The soul-bride who meditates on God’s Name, being imbued in the elixir of Naam, attains a spiritual state which is so high that she becomes invaluable.
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਹਾਝਿਆ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਵਿਚ ਭਿੱਜ ਕੇ ਇਤਨੇ ਉੱਚੇ ਆਤਮਕ-ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਮੋਲਿ ਅਮੋਲੋ ਸਚ ਘਰਿ ਢੋਲੋ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਾ ਮੁੰਧ ਭਲੀ ॥
mol amolo sach ghar dholo parabh bhaavai taa munDh bhalee.
The beloved God is invaluable and He dwells in her heart; If it so pleases God, then the bride soul also becomes virtuous.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਜੋ ਮੁੱਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਮੋਲਕ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸੱਚ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੇ ਉਹ ਚਾਹੇ ਤਾਂ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤਰੀ ਭੀ ਚੰਗੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਇਕਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਕਰਹਿ ਰਲੀਆ ਹਉ ਪੁਕਾਰੀ ਦਰਿ ਖਲੀ ॥
ik sang har kai karahi ralee-aa ha-o pukaaree dar khalee.
There are many, who enjoy bliss of God’s company, while I stand before them praying for help in remembering God
ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਹੀ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਖਲੋ ਕੇ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦੀ ਹਾਂ (ਕਿ ਮੇਰੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਕਰੋ ਮੈਂ ਭੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰ ਸਕਾਂ)।
ਕਰਣ ਕਾਰਣ ਸਮਰਥ ਸ੍ਰੀਧਰ ਆਪਿ ਕਾਰਜੁ ਸਾਰਏ ॥
karan kaaran samrath sareeDhar aap kaaraj saar-ay.
The all powerful God, the Cause of causes, Himself accomplishes her task of achieving the goal of human life.
ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਪਤੀ ,ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਨ-ਯੋਗ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦੇ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਦੇ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਨੂੰ ਸਫਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਦਰੀ ਧਨ ਸੋਹਾਗਣਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਅਭ ਸਾਧਾਰਏ ॥੩॥
naanak nadree Dhan sohagan sabad abh saaDhaar-ay. ||3||
O’ Nanak, fortunate is the soul-bride, upon whom He bestows grace; the Guru’s word is the support of her heart. ||3||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਉਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਦੇਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਹਮ ਘਰਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਸੋਹਿਲੜਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਆਇਅੜੇ ਮੀਤਾ ਰਾਮ ॥
ham ghar saachaa sohilrhaa parabh aa-i-arhay meetaa raam.
The eternal song of bliss is playing in my heart because I have realized the presence of my friendly God within.
ਹੇ ਸਹੇਲੀਹੋ! ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਵਿਚ, ਮਾਨੋ, ਅਟੱਲ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀਆਂ-ਭਰਿਆ ਗੀਤ ਹੋਣ ਲੱਗ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆ ਵੱਸਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਰਾਵੇ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੜਿਆ ਮਨੁ ਲੀਅੜਾ ਦੀਤਾ ਰਾਮ ॥
raavay rang raat-rhi-aa man lee-arhaa deetaa raam.
Imbued with love, my Beloved is enjoying my company and I have captivated His heart and given mine to Him.
ਪਿਆਰ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗੀਜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਸਾਈਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਦਾ ਦਿਲ ਮੈਂ ਮੋਹਤ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨੁ ਦੀਆ ਹਰਿ ਵਰੁ ਲੀਆ ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਰਾਵਏ ॥
aapnaa man dee-aa har var lee-aa ji-o bhaavai ti-o raav-ay.
The soul-bride, who surrender her mind to the Husband-God, attains His company and then He remains united with her as it pleases Him.
ਜੇਹੜੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਦੇ ਹਵਾਲੇ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਖਸਮ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਫਿਰ ਆਪਣੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਸ ਜੀਵ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਪਿਰ ਆਗੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਭਾਗੈ ਘਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਵਏ ॥
tan man pir aagai sabad sabhaagai ghar amrit fal paav-ay. .
The soul-bride who follows the Guru’s word and surrenders her mind and heart before her Husband-God, she becomes fortunate and realizes the ambrosial fruit of Naam in her heart.
ਜੇਹੜੀ ਜਿੰਦ-ਵਹੁਟੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਹਿਰਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਦੇ ਭੇਟ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਫਲ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਬੁਧਿ ਪਾਠਿ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਬਹੁ ਚਤੁਰਾਈਐ ਭਾਇ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਣੇ ॥
buDh paath na paa-ee-ai baho chaturaa-ee-ai bhaa-ay milai man bhaanay.
God is not realized by wisdom, scriptural readings or great cleverness; He meets only those who love Him and who are pleasing to his mind
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਕਿਸੇ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਨਾਲ ਕਿਸੇ ਅਕਲ ਨਾਲ ਕਿਸੇ (ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਪੁਸਤਕਾਂ ਦੇ) ਪਾਠ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ, ਉਹ ਤਾਂ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਉਹ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਮੀਤ ਹਮਾਰੇ ਹਮ ਨਾਹੀ ਲੋਕਾਣੇ ॥੪॥੧॥
naanak thaakur meet hamaaray ham naahee lokaanay. ||4||1||
O Nanak, God is my best friend and I am no longer a stranger to Him ||4||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਹੈ। ਮੈਂ ਗੈਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਾਂ ॥੪॥੧॥

Raag Aasaa, First Guru:
ਅਨਹਦੋ ਅਨਹਦੁ ਵਾਜੈ ਰੁਣ ਝੁਣਕਾਰੇ ਰਾਮ ॥
anhado anhad vaajai run jhunkaaray raam.
The continous melody of the divine word is now playing in my mind along with the melodious heavenly music.
ਹੁਣ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਅੰਦਰ ਘੁੰਘਰੂਆਂ ਝਾਂਜਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਛਣਕਾਰ ਦੀ ਧੁਨੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਰੱਬੀ ਕੀਰਤਨ, ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ,
ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੋ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਤਾ ਲਾਲ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਰਾਮ ॥
mayraa mano mayraa man raataa laal pi-aaray raam.
because my mind is deeply imbued with love of my beloved-God.
ਕਿਉਂ ਕਿ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ) ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤਾ ਮਨੁ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਸੁੰਨ ਮੰਡਲਿ ਘਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
an-din raataa man bairaagee sunn mandal ghar paa-i-aa.
My detached mind always remains attuned to God and I have found my place in the state of profound trance.
ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਿਚ, ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਹੁਣ ਅਜੇਹੇ ਉੱਚੇ ਮੰਡਲ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ
ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਅਪਰੰਪਰੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਅਲਖੁ ਲਖਾਇਆ ॥
aad purakh aprampar pi-aaraa satgur alakh lakhaa-i-aa.
The true Guru has revealed to me that beloved God who is primal, all pervading, infinite and incomprehensible.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਅਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਖਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਭ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਢ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਭ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਭ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਹਸਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਆਸਣਿ ਬੈਸਣਿ ਥਿਰੁ ਨਾਰਾਇਣੁ ਤਿਤੁ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਤਾ ਵੀਚਾਰੇ ॥
aasan baisan thir naaraa-in tit man raataa veechaaray.
By reflecting on the Guru’s word , my mind remains absorbed in the meditation of that God who is eternal.
ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਨਾਰਾਇਣ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਤਖ਼ਤ ਉਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਅਡੋਲ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਅਨਹਦ ਰੁਣ ਝੁਣਕਾਰੇ ॥੧॥
naanak naam ratay bairaagee anhad run jhunkaaray. ||1||
O’ Nanak, those who are detached from the worldly desires are imbued with Naam, within them play the unstruck divine melody. ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ!ਇੱਛਾ ਰਹਿਤ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ,ਸੁਰੀਲਾ ਬੈਕੁੰਠੀ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਤਿਤੁ ਅਗਮ ਤਿਤੁ ਅਗਮ ਪੁਰੇ ਕਹੁ ਕਿਤੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਜਾਈਐ ਰਾਮ ॥
tit agam tit agam puray kaho kit biDh jaa-ee-ai raam.
Tell me, how can we reach the unapproachable abode of that unapproachable God?
(ਹੇ ਸਹੇਲੀਏ!) ਦੱਸ, ਉਸ ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਹਰ ਵਿਚ ਕਿਸ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਨਾਲ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਚੁ ਸੰਜਮੋ ਸਾਰਿ ਗੁਣਾ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਕਮਾਈਐ ਰਾਮ ॥
sach sanjamo saar gunaa gur sabad kamaa-ee-ai raam.
By meditating on Naam, practicing self-discipline, enshrining God’s virtues in the mind and living by the Guru’s word.
ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ, ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਰੋਕ ਕੇ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਕਮਾ ਕੇ ।
ਸਚੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਕਮਾਈਐ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਈਐ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਣੀ ਨਿਧਾਨਾ ॥
sach sabad kamaa-ee-ai nij ghar jaa-ee-ai paa-ee-ai gunee niDhaanaa.
By meditating on Naam through the Guru’s word, mind stops wandering and goes within and realizes God, the treasure of virtues.
ਗੁਰ-ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ (ਸ੍ਵੈ-ਸਰੂਪ ਵਿਚ) ਅੱਪੜ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਲੱਭ ਲਈਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਤਿਤੁ ਸਾਖਾ ਮੂਲੁ ਪਤੁ ਨਹੀ ਡਾਲੀ ਸਿਰਿ ਸਭਨਾ ਪਰਧਾਨਾ ॥
tit saakhaa mool pat nahee daalee sir sabhnaa parDhaanaa.
God is the supreme Master of all, after seeking His support there is no need to look for any others support, just like one does not need the support of roots branches and leaves when he has the support of the tree trunk.
ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਟਹਣੀਆਂ ਡਾਲੀਆਂ ਜੜ੍ਹ ਪੱਤਰ (ਆਦਿਕ, ਭਾਵ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਰਚੇ ਜਗਤ) ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈਣ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦੀ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਪਰਧਾਨ ਹੈ।
ਜਪੁ ਤਪੁ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਸੰਜਮ ਥਾਕੀ ਹਠਿ ਨਿਗ੍ਰਹਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
jap tap kar kar sanjam thaakee hath nigrahi nahee paa-ee-ai.
People have grown weary of practicing worship, penance, and self-discipline; but God is not realized by stubbornly controlling the senses.
ਇਹ ਲੁਕਾਈ ਜਪ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਤਪ ਸਾਧ ਕੇ ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਰੋਕਣ ਦਾ ਜਤਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਹਾਰ ਗਈ ਹੈ, (ਇਸ ਕਿਸਮ ਦੇ) ਹਠ ਨਾਲ ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਸ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਜਤਨ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਹਜਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਜਗਜੀਵਨ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬੂਝ ਬੁਝਾਈਐ ॥੨॥
naanak sahj milay jagjeevan satgur boojh bujhaa-ee-ai. ||2||
O’ Nanak, those, whom the true Guru has imparted the understanding about the righteous life, they intuitively realize God. ||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਆਸਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਮਤਿ ਨੇ ਸਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਰਾਹ ਸਮਝਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਗੁਰੁ ਸਾਗਰੋ ਰਤਨਾਗਰੁ ਤਿਤੁ ਰਤਨ ਘਣੇਰੇ ਰਾਮ ॥
gur saagro ratnaagar tit ratan ghanayray raam.
The Guru is like an ocean and a mine of jewels, in which there are innumerable jewels (virtues) of divine knowledge.
ਗੁਰੂ (ਇਕ) ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਰਤਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਖਾਣ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਵਿਚ (ਸੁਚੱਜੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਦੇ), ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਰਤਨ ਹਨ।
