ਸਿਰੀਰਾਗੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Siree Raag, by the Fifth Guru:
ਭਲਕੇ ਉਠਿ ਪਪੋਲੀਐ ਵਿਣੁ ਬੁਝੇ ਮੁਗਧ ਅਜਾਣਿ ॥
bhalkay uth papolee-ai vin bujhay mugaDh ajaan.
Getting up each morning you pamper your body, but without understanding the true purpose of life, you remain thoughtless and ignorant.
ਹਰ ਰੋਜ਼ ਉੱਦਮ ਨਾਲ ਇਸ ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਲੀ ਪੋਸੀਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਮਨੋਰਥ) ਸਮਝਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਇਹ ਮੂਰਖ ਤੇ ਬੇ-ਸਮਝ ਹੀ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਚਿਤਿ ਨ ਆਇਓ ਛੁਟੈਗੀ ਬੇਬਾਣਿ ॥
so parabh chit na aa-i-o chhutaigee baybaan.
If you don’t remember God, in the end your body would be abandoned in the wilderness.
ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ) ਚੇਤੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ, ਤੇ ਆਖ਼ਰ ਇਹ ਮਸਾਣਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸੁੱਟ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਾਇਗਾ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਤੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਮਾਣਿ ॥੧॥
satgur saytee chit laa-ay sadaa sadaa rang maan. ||1||
Focus your consciousness on the true Guru; and enjoy bliss forever and ever.
ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਲ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੜ, ਤੇ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ) ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣ l
ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਤੂੰ ਆਇਆ ਲਾਹਾ ਲੈਣਿ ॥
paraanee tooN aa-i-aa laahaa lain.
O’ mortal, you came into this world to earn the profit of Naam.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ! ਤੂੰ (ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ) ਲਾਭ ਖੱਟਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਆਇਆ ਹੈਂ।
ਲਗਾ ਕਿਤੁ ਕੁਫਕੜੇ ਸਭ ਮੁਕਦੀ ਚਲੀ ਰੈਣਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
lagaa kit khufkarhay sabh mukdee chalee rain. ||1|| rahaa-o.
What useless activities are you attached to? Your life-night (life span) is coming to its end.
ਤੂੰ ਕਿਸ ਖ਼ੁਆਰੀ ਵਾਲੇ ਕੰਮ ਵਿਚ ਰੁੱਝਾ ਪਿਆ ਹੈਂ? ਤੇਰੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੀ ਰਾਤ ਮੁੱਕਦੀ ਜਾ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ ॥
ਕੁਦਮ ਕਰੇ ਪਸੁ ਪੰਖੀਆ ਦਿਸੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਾਲੁ ॥
kudam karay pas pankhee-aa disai naahee kaal.
The animals and the birds frolic and play, unaware of death.
ਪਸ਼ੂ ਕਲੋਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਪੰਛੀ ਕਲੋਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਪਸ਼ੂ ਨੂੰ ਪੰਛੀ ਨੂੰ) ਮੌਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਸਦੀ,
ਓਤੈ ਸਾਥਿ ਮਨੁਖੁ ਹੈ ਫਾਥਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਜਾਲਿ ॥
otai saath manukh hai faathaa maa-i-aa jaal.
Like animals and birds, mankind has also forgotten death, due to being trapped in Maya (worldly riches and powers).
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਪਸ਼ੂ ਪੰਛੀ ਵਾਂਗ ਮੌਤ ਚੇਤੇ ਨਹੀਂ, ਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਜਾਲ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਮੁਕਤੇ ਸੇਈ ਭਾਲੀਅਹਿ ਜਿ ਸਚਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥੨॥
muktay say-ee bhaalee-ah je sachaa naam samaal. ||2||
Only those persons who enshrine the Name of God in their heart with love are considered to be liberated from the effect of Maya (worldly riches and powers).
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਜਾਲ ਤੋਂ ਬਚੇ ਹੋਏ ਉਹੀ ਬੰਦੇ ਦਿੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜੇਹੜੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ l
ਜੋ ਘਰੁ ਛਡਿ ਗਵਾਵਣਾ ਸੋ ਲਗਾ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
jo ghar chhad gavaavnaa so lagaa man maahi.
O’ my friends, your mind is attached to that home (this world) which you have to leave one day,
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ!) ਜੇਹੜਾ (ਇਹ) ਘਰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਤੁਰ ਜਾਣਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ (ਪਿਆਰਾ) ਲੱਗ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ,
ਜਿਥੈ ਜਾਇ ਤੁਧੁ ਵਰਤਣਾ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
jithai jaa-ay tuDh vartanaa tis kee chintaa naahi.
and that place where you have to dwell (in the next world), you have no worry for it at all.
ਤੇ ਜਿਥੇ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਵਾਹ ਪੈਣਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਤੈਨੂੰ (ਰਤਾ ਭੀ) ਫ਼ਿਕਰ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਫਾਥੇ ਸੇਈ ਨਿਕਲੇ ਜਿ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਪੈਰੀ ਪਾਹਿ ॥੩॥
faathay say-ee niklay je gur kee pairee paahi. ||3||
Only those are liberated from the worldly entanglements who surrender themselves completely to the Guru.
ਜੀਵ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਪਏ ਹਨ, ਇਸ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਹੋਏ ਉਹੀ ਬੰਦੇ ਨਿਕਲਦੇ ਹਨ ਜੇਹੜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨੀਂ ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ l
ਕੋਈ ਰਖਿ ਨ ਸਕਈ ਦੂਜਾ ਕੋ ਨ ਦਿਖਾਇ ॥
ko-ee rakh na sak-ee doojaa ko na dikhaa-ay.
I see no one else who can save you, don’t look for anyone else.
ਇਸ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਕੋਈ ਬਚਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ, (ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਅਜੇਹੀ ਸਮਰਥਾ ਵਾਲਾ) ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ।
ਚਾਰੇ ਕੁੰਡਾ ਭਾਲਿ ਕੈ ਆਇ ਪਇਆ ਸਰਣਾਇ ॥
chaaray kundaa bhaal kai aa-ay pa-i-aa sarnaa-ay.
After searching everywhere, I have ultimately come to the refuge of the Guru,
ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਢੂੰਡ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਆ ਪਿਆ ਹਾਂ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੈ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹਿ ਡੁਬਦਾ ਲਇਆ ਕਢਾਇ ॥੪॥੩॥੭੩॥
naanak sachai paatisaah dubdaa la-i-aa kadhaa-ay. ||4||3||73||
O’ Nanak, the Almighty God has saved me from drowning in the worldly vices.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ (ਆਖ-) ਸੱਚੇ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ ਨੇ, ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚ) ਡੁੱਬਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਕੱਢ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ l

Siree Raag, by the Fifth Guru:
ਘੜੀ ਮੁਹਤ ਕਾ ਪਾਹੁਣਾ ਕਾਜ ਸਵਾਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
gharhee muhat kaa paahunaa kaaj savaaranhaar.
One comes to this worldly house as a guest for a short time, but (deeming this as permanent) starts resolving the worldly affairs.
ਜੀਵ ਇਸ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਘੜੀ ਦੋ ਘੜੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਹੁਣਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਹੀ ਕੰਮ-ਧੰਧੇ ਨਿਜਿੱਠਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਾਇਆ ਕਾਮਿ ਵਿਆਪਿਆ ਸਮਝੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗਾਵਾਰੁ ॥
maa-i-aa kaam vi-aapi-aa samjhai naahee gaavaar.
Engrossed in Maya (worldly attachments) and lust, the foolish person does not understand the real purpose of this human life.
ਮੂਰਖ (ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਸਹੀ ਰਾਹ) ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਦਾ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਤੇ ਕਾਮਵਾਸ਼ਨਾ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਉਠਿ ਚਲਿਆ ਪਛੁਤਾਇਆ ਪਰਿਆ ਵਸਿ ਜੰਦਾਰ ॥੧॥
uth chali-aa pachhutaa-i-aa pari-aa vas jandaar. ||1||
He departs (from this world) with regret, and falls into the clutches of the Messenger of Death.
ਜਦੋਂ (ਇਥੋਂ) ਉੱਠ ਕੇ ਤੁਰ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਪਛੁਤਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਪਰ ਉਸ ਵੇਲੇ ਪਛੁਤਾਇਆਂ ਕੀਹ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ?) ਜਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਵੱਸ ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਅੰਧੇ ਤੂੰ ਬੈਠਾ ਕੰਧੀ ਪਾਹਿ ॥
anDhay tooN baithaa kanDhee paahi.
O’ blind fool, (engrossed in worldly attachments) your state in this world is like a tree on the bank of a river which can be uprooted at any moment.
ਹੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਹੋਏ ਜੀਵ! ਤੂੰ (ਮੌਤ-ਨਦੀ ਦੇ) ਕੰਢੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਬੈਠਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈਂ (ਪਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੇਹੜੇ ਵੇਲੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਮੌਤ ਆ ਜਾਏ)।
ਜੇ ਹੋਵੀ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਤਾ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਬਚਨੁ ਕਮਾਹਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jay hovee poorab likhi-aa taa gur kaa bachan kamaahi. ||1|| rahaa-o.
If such is your pre-written destiny, you now have the opportunity to live according to the Guru’s teachings.
ਜੇਕਰ ਧੁਰੋਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੇਖ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੋਵੇ, ਤਾਂ ਤੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਕਮਾ ਲਏਂ l
ਹਰੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਨਹ ਡਡੁਰੀ ਪਕੀ ਵਢਣਹਾਰ ॥
haree naahee nah daduree pakee vadhanhaar.
Irrespective of the fact whether one is a child, a young or an elderly person, can be called from this world at any time.
(ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਖੇਤੀ) ਵੱਢਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਂ ਕੱਚੀ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਨਾਂ ਅੱਧ-ਪੱਕੀ ਜਾਂ ਪੱਕੀ।
ਲੈ ਲੈ ਦਾਤ ਪਹੁਤਿਆ ਲਾਵੇ ਕਰਿ ਤਈਆਰੁ ॥
lai lai daat pahuti-aa laavay kar ta-ee-aar.
When the owner deems fit he prepares the harvesters, who, carrying their sickles arrive at the farm. (similarly, when God orders, the messenger of death arrives).
(ਖੇਤ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਜਦੋਂ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ) ਵਾਢੇ ਤਿਆਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਦਾਤਰੇ ਲੈ ਲੈ ਕੇ (ਖੇਤ ਵਿਚ) ਆ ਪਹੁੰਚਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਜਾ ਹੋਆ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਕਿਰਸਾਣ ਦਾ ਤਾ ਲੁਣਿ ਮਿਣਿਆ ਖੇਤਾਰੁ ॥੨॥
jaa ho-aa hukam kirsaan daa taa lun mini-aa khaytaar. ||2||
When the farmer gives the order, they cut and measure the crop. (Similarly when ordered by God, the demon of death arrive and take away the mortals)
ਜਦ ਜ਼ਿਮੀਦਾਰ ਹੁਕਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਫ਼ਸਲ ਵੱਢੀ ਤੇ ਮਾਪ ਲਈ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜਦੋਂ ਹੁਕਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਮ ਆ ਕੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਲੈ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ l
ਪਹਿਲਾ ਪਹਰੁ ਧੰਧੈ ਗਇਆ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਰਿ ਸੋਇਆ ॥
pahilaa pahar DhanDhai ga-i-aa doojai bhar so-i-aa.
The first part of human life is wasted in the worthless affairs, the second part is wasted in sleep (attachment to worldly riches and power).
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਰਾਤ ਦਾ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਪਹਰ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਧੰਧਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਬੀਤਦਾ ਹੈ, ਦੂਜੇ ਪਹਰ (ਮੋਹ ਦੀ ਨੀਂਦ ਵਿਚ) ਰੱਜ ਕੇ ਸੁੱਤਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਤੀਜੈ ਝਾਖ ਝਖਾਇਆ ਚਉਥੈ ਭੋਰੁ ਭਇਆ ॥
teejai jhaakh jhakhaa-i-aa cha-uthai bhor bha-i-aa.
The third part of life is wasted in useless fights and struggles; and in the fourth part of life, the day of death dawns.
ਤੀਜੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਉਹ ਬੇਹੁੰਦਾ ਬਕਵਾਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਭੋਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਚੋਥੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਦਿਨ ਚੜ੍ਹ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਦ ਹੀ ਚਿਤਿ ਨ ਆਇਓ ਜਿਨਿ ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਦੀਆ ॥੩॥
kad hee chit na aa-i-o jin jee-o pind dee-aa. ||3||
The thought of the One who bestows body and soul never enters the mind.
ਜਿਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਜਿੰਦ ਤੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਕਦੇ ਭੀ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ l
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਕਉ ਵਾਰਿਆ ਜੀਉ ਕੀਆ ਕੁਰਬਾਣੁ ॥
saaDhsangat ka-o vaari-aa jee-o kee-aa kurbaan.
I am devoted to the Company of the saintly persons; I dedicate my soul to them,
ਮੈਂ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਤੋਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ,
ਜਿਸ ਤੇ ਸੋਝੀ ਮਨਿ ਪਈ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਸੁਜਾਣੁ ॥
jis tay sojhee man pa-ee mili-aa purakh sujaan.
through whom, understanding (of self) has entered my mind, and I have realized the All-knowing God.
ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਮੇਰੇਂ ਚਿੱਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਸਮਝ ਆ ਗਈ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਸੁਜਾਣ ਅਕਾਲਪੁਰਖ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ ਹਾਂ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਡਿਠਾ ਸਦਾ ਨਾਲਿ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਜਾਣੁ ॥੪॥੪॥੭੪॥
naanak dithaa sadaa naal har antarjaamee jaan. ||4||4||74||
O’ Nanak, I experience the presence of God, knower of one’s inner feelings, always with me,
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਸੁਜਾਣ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ (ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ) ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਹੈ l

Siree Raag, by the Fifth Guru:
ਸਭੇ ਗਲਾ ਵਿਸਰਨੁ ਇਕੋ ਵਿਸਰਿ ਨ ਜਾਉ ॥
sabhay galaa visran iko visar na jaa-o.
Let me forget everything, but let me not forget the One (God).
ਮੇਰੀ ਤਾਂ ਸਦਾ ਇਹੀ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਬੇ-ਸ਼ੱਕ ਭੁੱਲ ਜਾਣ, ਪਰ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਨਾਹ ਭੁੱਲੇ।
ਧੰਧਾ ਸਭੁ ਜਲਾਇ ਕੈ ਗੁਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੀਆ ਸਚੁ ਸੁਆਉ ॥
DhanDhaa sabh jalaa-ay kai gur naam dee-aa sach su-aa-o.
Having delivered me from all worldly entanglements, the Guru has blessed me with Naam, the true objective of life.
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਧੰਧਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਮੋਹ ਸਾੜ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਹੁਣ ਮੇਰਾ ਜੀਵਨ-ਮਨੋਰਥ ਹੈ।
ਆਸਾ ਸਭੇ ਲਾਹਿ ਕੈ ਇਕਾ ਆਸ ਕਮਾਉ ॥
aasaa sabhay laahi kai ikaa aas kamaa-o.
Give up all other hopes, and have only one hope of realizing God.
ਮੈਂ (ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੀਆਂ) ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਆਸਾਂ ਮਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਆਸ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਪੱਕੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਜਿਨੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਅਗੈ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਥਾਉ ॥੧॥
jinee satgur sayvi-aa tin agai mili-aa thaa-o. ||1||
Those who serve the True Guru by following his teachings, receive a place of honor in God’s court.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ) ਆਦਰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਕਰਤੇ ਨੋ ਸਾਲਾਹਿ ॥
man mayray kartay no saalaahi.
O’ my mind, praise the Creator.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਕਰਤਾਰ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰ।
ਸਭੇ ਛਡਿ ਸਿਆਣਪਾ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਪੈਰੀ ਪਾਹਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sabhay chhad si-aanpaa gur kee pairee paahi. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Give up all your clever tricks, and humbly seek the Guru’s guidance.
ਤੂੰ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਚਤੁਰਾਈਆਂ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਤੇ ਢਹਿ ਪਉ l
ਦੁਖ ਭੁਖ ਨਹ ਵਿਆਪਈ ਜੇ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਮਨਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
dukh bhukh nah vi-aapa-ee jay sukh-daata man ho-ay.
No pain and hunger (due to worldly riches and powers) afflicts you, if you have God, the Giver of Peace in your mind.
ਜੇ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸ ਪਏ, ਤਾਂ ਨਾਹ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਪਾ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ, ਨਾਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਪਾ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਕਿਤ ਹੀ ਕੰਮਿ ਨ ਛਿਜੀਐ ਜਾ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਸਚਾ ਸੋਇ ॥
kit hee kamm na chhijee-ai jaa hirdai sachaa so-ay.
No undertaking shall fail, when eternal God is always in your heart.
ਜੇਕਰ ਉਹ ਸੱਚਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਦੇ ਅੰਤਰ-ਆਤਮੇ ਵੱਸ ਜਾਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਕਾਰਜ ਵਿੱਚ ਭੀ ਨਾਂ-ਕਾਮਯਾਬ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ।
ਜਿਸੁ ਤੂੰ ਰਖਹਿ ਹਥ ਦੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
jis tooN rakheh hath day tis maar na sakai ko-ay.
O’ God, no one can harm that person whom You protect.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੱਥ ਦੇ ਕੇ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ) ਬਚਾਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਕੋਈ (ਵਿਕਾਰ) ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ (ਮੌਤੇ) ਮਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੀਐ ਸਭਿ ਅਵਗਣ ਕਢੈ ਧੋਇ ॥੨॥
sukh-daata gur sayvee-ai sabh avgan kadhai Dho-ay. ||2||
Therefore, we should always serve (and follow the teachings) of the peace giving Guru; who drives out all our demerits.
ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਲੈਣੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ, ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ (ਮਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਸਾਰੇ ਔਗੁਣ ਧੋ ਕੇ ਕੱਢ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਸੇਵਾ ਮੰਗੈ ਸੇਵਕੋ ਲਾਈਆਂ ਅਪੁਨੀ ਸੇਵ ॥
sayvaa mangai sayvko laa-ee-aaN apunee sayv.
O’ God, your servant begs to serve those who are enjoined to Your service.
ਹੇ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਸੇਵਕ (ਤੇਰੇ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਦਾ ਦਾਨ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਵਿਚ ਲਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
