ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਅੰਦਰ ਤੇ ਬਾਹਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਇੱਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਵਿਖਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੩॥੫੪॥

Raag Aasaa, Fifth Guru:
ਪਾਵਤੁ ਰਲੀਆ ਜੋਬਨਿ ਬਲੀਆ ॥
paavat ralee-aa joban balee-aa.
The mortal revels in joy, in the vigor of youth;
ਜਿਤਨਾ ਚਿਰ ਜੁਆਨੀ ਵਿਚ ਸਰੀਰਕ ਤਾਕਤ ਹੈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮੌਜਾਂ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਾਟੀ ਸੰਗਿ ਰਲੀਆ ॥੧॥
naam binaa maatee sang ralee-aa. ||1||
but without meditating on Naam, he ultimately mingles with dust. |1|
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਆਖ਼ਿਰ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ॥੧॥
ਕਾਨ ਕੁੰਡਲੀਆ ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਓਢਲੀਆ ॥
kaan kundlee-aa bastar odhalee-aa.
He may wear ear-rings and fine clothes,
ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਕੰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ (ਸੋਨੇ ਦੇ) ਕੁੰਡਲ ਪਾ ਕੇ (ਸੋਹਣੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ) ਕੱਪੜੇ ਪਹਿਨਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸੇਜ ਸੁਖਲੀਆ ਮਨਿ ਗਰਬਲੀਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sayj sukhlee-aa man garablee-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
sleeps on nice cozy beds and feels egoeistically proud in his mind. ||1||Pause||
ਨਰਮ ਨਰਮ ਬਿਸਤ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਉਤੇ ਸੌਂਦਾ ਹ ,ਤੇ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਮਿਲੇ ਹੋਏ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਮਾਣ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਤਲੈ ਕੁੰਚਰੀਆ ਸਿਰਿ ਕਨਿਕ ਛਤਰੀਆ ॥
talai kunchree-aa sir kanik chhatree-aa.
He may have elephant to ride and golden umbrella over his head;
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਜੇ ਸਵਾਰੀ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ) ਹੇਠ ਹਾਥੀ (ਭੀ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਸੋਨੇ ਦਾ ਛਤਰ ਝੁੱਲ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ,
ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਬਿਨਾ ਲੇ ਧਰਨਿ ਗਡਲੀਆ ॥੨॥
har bhagat binaa lay Dharan gadlee-aa. ||2||
but without God’s devotional worship he is buried beneath the dirt. ||2||
ਪਰ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਬਗੈਰ ਉਹ ਜਮੀਨ ਦੇ ਹੇਠਾਂ ਦੱਬ ਦਿਤਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ॥੨॥
ਰੂਪ ਸੁੰਦਰੀਆ ਅਨਿਕ ਇਸਤਰੀਆ ॥
roop sundree-aa anik istaree-aa.
He may enjoy many women, of exquisite beauty;
ਉਹ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਰੂਪ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਮਾਣ ਲਵੇ;
ਹਰਿ ਰਸ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਭਿ ਸੁਆਦ ਫਿਕਰੀਆ ॥੩॥
har ras bin sabh su-aad fikree-aa. ||3||
but without the nectar of God’s Name all these worldly tastes are insipid. ||3||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਦੇ ਬਗੈਰ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਵਾਲੇ ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਆਦ ਫਿੱਕੇ ਹਨ ॥੩॥
ਮਾਇਆ ਛਲੀਆ ਬਿਕਾਰ ਬਿਖਲੀਆ ॥
maa-i-aa chhalee-aa bikaar bikhlee-aa.
All these worldly riches and power are deceitful; sinful pleasures are poisonous.
ਮਾਇਆ ਠੱਗਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੀ ਹੈ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ-ਵਿਕਾਰ ਜ਼ਹਰ-ਭਰੇ ਹਨ
ਸਰਣਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪੁਰਖ ਦਇਅਲੀਆ ॥੪॥੪॥੫੫॥
saran naanak parabh purakh da-i-alee-aa. ||4||4||55||
O’ Nanak, to escape from these evils, seek the refuge of the merciful God. ||4||4||55||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਨ ਲਈ, ਦਇਆਲ ਪੁਰਖ- ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਆ ॥੪॥੪॥੫੫॥

Raag Aasaa, Fifth Guru:
ਏਕੁ ਬਗੀਚਾ ਪੇਡ ਘਨ ਕਰਿਆ ॥
ayk bageechaa payd ghan kari-aa.
The holy congregation of the Guru is like an orchard in which there are many saintly people like fruit trees.
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਇਕ ਬਗ਼ੀਚਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰੂ -ਮਾਲੀ ਨੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਬੂਟੇ ਲਾਏ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ ( ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਸਾਧ ਜਨ ਹਨ)
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਤਹਾ ਮਹਿ ਫਲਿਆ ॥੧॥
amrit naam tahaa meh fali-aa. ||1||
These saintly people bloom with the ambrosial nectar of Naam like the trees blooming in the orchard. ||1||
ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਫ਼ਲ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਐਸਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ਗਿਆਨੀ ॥
aisaa karahu beechaar gi-aanee.
O’ wise person, think about some way,
ਹੇ ਗਿਆਨਵਾਨ ਮਨੁੱਖ! ਕੋਈ ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰ,
ਜਾ ਤੇ ਪਾਈਐ ਪਦੁ ਨਿਰਬਾਨੀ ॥
jaa tay paa-ee-ai pad nirbaanee.
by which one may attain the spiritual status that is unaffected by worldly desires.
ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਦਰਜਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਏ ਜਿਥੇ ਕੋਈ ਵਾਸਨਾ ਨਾਹ ਪੋਹ ਸਕੇ।
ਆਸਿ ਪਾਸਿ ਬਿਖੂਆ ਕੇ ਕੁੰਟਾ ਬੀਚਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਹੈ ਭਾਈ ਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
aas paas bikhoo-aa kay kuntaa beech amrit hai bhaa-ee ray. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O’ my brother, you have nectar of Naam flowing within, but you are surrounded by worldly riches and power which are like springs of poison.||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਤੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਨਾਮ-ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਦਾ ਚਸ਼ਮਾ ਚੱਲ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਤੇਰੇ ਚੁਫੇਰੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਜ਼ਹਰ ਦੇ ਚਸ਼ਮੇ ਚੱਲ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਸਿੰਚਨਹਾਰੇ ਏਕੈ ਮਾਲੀ ॥
sinchanhaaray aykai maalee.
The Guru takes care of the spiritual need of his followers like a gardener is responsible for irrigating the orchard.
ਗੁਰੂ ਮਾਲੀ ਸਾਧ ਜਨਾ ਦੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਖਬਰਿ ਕਰਤੁ ਹੈ ਪਾਤ ਪਤ ਡਾਲੀ ॥੨॥
khabar karat hai paat pat daalee. ||2||
The Guru warns his congregations regarding false worldly allurements, like a gardener taking care of each and every leaf and branch in the orchard. ||2||
ਗੁਰੂ ਉਹਨਾ ਦੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ ਹਰ ਪਹਿਲੂ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਿਆਲ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਹਰ ਬੂਟੇ ਦੇ ਪੱਤਰ ਪੱਤਰ ਡਾਲੀ ਡਾਲੀ ਦੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ) ॥੨॥
ਸਗਲ ਬਨਸਪਤਿ ਆਣਿ ਜੜਾਈ ॥
sagal banaspat aan jarhaa-ee.
The Guru has assembled and embellished the saintly persons in his congregation, just as a gardener plants all kinds of trees in his orchard.
ਮਾਲੀ ਨੇ ਬਗ਼ੀਚੇ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਰੀ ਬਨਸਪਤੀ ਲਿਆ ਕੇ ਸਜਾ ਦਿੱਦਾ ਹੈ (ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ -ਬਗ਼ੀਚੇ ਨੂੰ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ)।
ਸਗਲੀ ਫੂਲੀ ਨਿਫਲ ਨ ਕਾਈ ॥੩॥
saglee foolee nifal na kaa-ee. ||3||
All these saints are bloomed with the fruit of spiritual enlightenment, as if all the trees have born fruit and none of the tree is without fruit.||3||
ਸਾਰੀ ਬਨਸਪਤੀ ਫੁੱਲ ਦੇ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ ਬੂਟਾ ਫਲ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਾਲੀ ਨਹੀਂ (ਹਰੇਕ ਸਾਧ ਜਨ ਨੂੰ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਮਈ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਮੇਵਾ ਲੱਗਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਫਲੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
amrit fal naam jin gur tay paa-i-aa.
One who has received the fruit of Naam from the Guru,
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਫਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ,
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਤਰੀ ਤਿਨਿ ਮਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੫॥੫੬॥
naanak daas taree tin maa-i-aa. ||4||5||56||
O’ Nanak, such a devotee has crossed over the world ocean of Maya. |4|5|56|
ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਉਸ ਨੇ ਮਾਇਆ (ਦੀ ਨਦੀ) ਪਾਰ ਕਰ ਲਈ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੫॥੫੬॥

ਰਾਜ ਲੀਲਾ ਤੇਰੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਬਨਾਈ ॥
raaj leelaa tayrai naam banaa-ee.
O’ God, meditation on Your Name has made my life so happy, as if I am enjoying the pleasures of a kingdom
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਸ਼ਾਨ-ਸ਼ੌਕਤ ਬਣਾ ਛੱਡੀ ਹੈ।
ਜੋਗੁ ਬਨਿਆ ਤੇਰਾ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਗਾਈ ॥੧॥
jog bani-aa tayraa keertan gayee. ||1||
I attain yoga (union with You), when I sing Your praise. ||1||
ਜਦੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਤਾਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਜੋਗੀਆਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਜੋਗ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖਾ ਬਨੇ ਤੇਰੈ ਓਲ੍ਹ੍ਹੈ ॥ ਭ੍ਰਮ ਕੇ ਪਰਦੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਖੋਲ੍ਹ੍ਹੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sarab sukhaa banay tayrai olHai. bharam kay parday satgur kholHay. |1| rahaa-o.
O’ God, since the time the true Guru has torn apart the veils of illusion, I have obtained all kinds of comforts by depending on Your support. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਦੋਂ ਤੋਂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਪੜਦੇ ਖੋਹਲ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ ਤਦੋਂ ਤੋਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਆਸਰੇ-ਪਰਨੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਹੀ ਸੁਖ ਬਣ ਗਏ ਹਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਹੁਕਮੁ ਬੂਝਿ ਰੰਗ ਰਸ ਮਾਣੇ ॥
hukam boojh rang ras maanay.
By understanding Your will, I revel in peace and pleasure.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ,
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਮਹਾ ਨਿਰਬਾਣੇ ॥੨॥
satgur sayvaa mahaa nirbaanay. ||2||
By following the true Guru’s teachings, I have obtained the highest status of freedom from worldly desires. ||2||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ (ਦੱਸੀ) ਸੇਵਾ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਬੜੀ ਉੱਚੀ ਵਾਸਨਾ-ਰਹਿਤ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਜਿਨਿ ਤੂੰ ਜਾਤਾ ਸੋ ਗਿਰਸਤ ਉਦਾਸੀ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥
jin tooN jaataa so girsat udaasee parvaan.
O’ God, the one who has realized You, whether a house holder or an ascetic, is accepted in Your court.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ ਲਈ ਉਹ ਚਾਹੇ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤੀ ਹੈ ਚਾਹੇ ਤਿਆਗੀ ਉਹ ਤੇਰੀਆਂ ਨਜ਼ਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਕਬੂਲ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤਾ ਸੋਈ ਨਿਰਬਾਣੁ ॥੩॥
naam rataa so-ee nirbaan. ||3||
One who is imbued with Naam, remains free from the worldly desires. ||3||
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਾਮ -ਰੰਗ) ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੀਆਂ ਵਾਸਨਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਮਿਲਿਓ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨਾ ॥
jaa ka-o mili-o naam niDhaanaa.
One who has attained the treasure of Naam.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ-ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਮਿਲ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ,
ਭਨਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਪੂਰ ਖਜਾਨਾ ॥੪॥੬॥੫੭॥
bhanat naanak taa kaa poor khajaanaa. ||4||6||57||
Nanak says, the treasure of his heart remains full with spiritual bliss. ||4||6||57||
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ-ਉਸ ਦਾ (ਉੱਚੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ) ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਸਦਾ ਭਰਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੬॥੫੭॥

Raag Aasaa, Fifth Guru:
ਤੀਰਥਿ ਜਾਉ ਤ ਹਉ ਹਉ ਕਰਤੇ ॥
tirath jaa-o ta ha-o ha-o kartay.
When I go to holy places, I find people indulging in ego.
ਜੇ ਮੈਂ ਕਿਸ) ਤੀਰਥ ਅਸਥਾਨਾਂ ਤੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਤਾਂ ਉਥੇ ਮੈਂ ਧਰਮੀ, ਮੈਂ ਧਰਮੀ’ ਆਖਦੇ (ਹੰਕਾਰ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ) ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ,
ਪੰਡਿਤ ਪੂਛਉ ਤ ਮਾਇਆ ਰਾਤੇ ॥੧॥
pandit poochha-o ta maa-i-aa raatay. ||1||
If I ask pundits about spiritual guidance, I find them imbued with the love of Maya (worldly wealth and power).||1||
ਜੇ ਮੈਂ (ਜਾ ਕੇ) ਪੰਡਿਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੁੱਛਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਭੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
ਸੋ ਅਸਥਾਨੁ ਬਤਾਵਹੁ ਮੀਤਾ ॥
so asthaan bataavhu meetaa.
O’ my friend, please tell me about such a place,
ਹੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ! ਨੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਥਾਂ ਦੱਸ,
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਨੀਤਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jaa kai har har keertan neetaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
where God’s praises are being sung all the time. ||1||Pause||
ਜਿੱਥੇ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੋਵੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਬੇਦ ਪਾਪ ਪੁੰਨ ਵੀਚਾਰ ॥
saastar bayd paap punn veechaar.
The shastras and the vedas reflect only on sins and virtues,
ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਤੇ ਬੇਦ ਪੁੰਨਾਂ ਤੇ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਹੀ ਦੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ
ਨਰਕਿ ਸੁਰਗਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਅਉਤਾਰ ॥੨॥
narak surag fir fir a-utaar. ||2||
on account of which one keeps going to hell or heaven again and again. ||2||
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਰਨ ਨਾਲ) ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ (ਕਦੇ) ਨਰਕ ਵਿਚ (ਤੇ ਕਦੇ) ਸੁਰਗ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਗਿਰਸਤ ਮਹਿ ਚਿੰਤ ਉਦਾਸ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ॥
girsat meh chint udaas ahaNkaar.
Worldly people are afflicted with anxiety and those who have renounced the world indulge in pride and arrogance.
ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਦਬਾ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ, (ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤ ਦਾ) ਤਿਆਗ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ (ਨਾਲ ਆਫਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ),
ਕਰਮ ਕਰਤ ਜੀਅ ਕਉ ਜੰਜਾਰ ॥੩॥
karam karat jee-a ka-o janjaar. ||3||
Those who perform only rituals are entangled in the bonds Maya. ||3||
(ਨਿਰੇ) ਕਰਮ-ਕਾਂਡ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਨੂੰ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ) ਜੰਜਾਲ (ਪਏ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ) ॥੩॥
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਮਨੁ ਵਸਿ ਆਇਆ ॥
parabh kirpaa tay man vas aa-i-aa.
By God’s grace, the one whose mind comes under control,
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਤਰੀ ਤਿਨਿ ਮਾਇਆ ॥੪॥
naanak gurmukh taree tin maa-i-aa. ||4||
O’ Nanak, by following the Guru’s teachings, he swims across the world ocean of Maya. ||4||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਰਾਹੀਂ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਉਤਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ॥੪॥
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਗਾਈਐ ॥
saaDhsang har keertan gaa-ee-ai.
In the company of saintly people, we should sing the praises of God,
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ (ਸਦਾ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ
ਇਹੁ ਅਸਥਾਨੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੇ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ ॥੭॥੫੮॥
ih asthaan guroo tay paa-ee-ai. ||1|| rahaa-o doojaa. ||7||58||
but such a holy place is found through the Guru. ||1||Second Pause||7||58||
ਪਰ ਇਹ ਥਾਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਲੱਭਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ਰਹਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ॥੭॥੫੮॥

Raag Aasaa, Fifth Guru:
ਘਰ ਮਹਿ ਸੂਖ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਫੁਨਿ ਸੂਖਾ ॥
ghar meh sookh baahar fun sookhaa.
He who lovingly remembers God enjoys inner peace and also while dealing with outside world.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ) ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਬਾਹਰ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਨਾਲ ਵਰਤਣ-ਵਿਹਾਰ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਸਗਲ ਬਿਨਾਸੇ ਦੂਖਾ ॥੧॥
har simrat sagal binaasay dookhaa. ||1||
All sorrows are erased by remembering God with loving devotion. ||1||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
ਸਗਲ ਸੂਖ ਜਾਂ ਤੂੰ ਚਿਤਿ ਆਂਵੈਂ ॥
sagal sookh jaaN tooN chit aaNvaiN.
O’ God, one who realizes You in his heart attains all the comforts and peace.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚ ਤੂੰ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਹੀ ਸੁਖ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਤ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
