ਸੋਈ ਅਜਾਣੁ ਕਹੈ ਮੈ ਜਾਨਾ ਜਾਨਣਹਾਰੁ ਨ ਛਾਨਾ ਰੇ ॥
so-ee ajaan kahai mai jaanaa jaananhaar na chhaanaa ray.
One who claims to have understood God is still ignorant; he who realizes God does not remain hidden for very long.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਨਿਰਾ ਜ਼ਬਾਨੀ ਜ਼ਬਾਨੀ) ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ ਭੇਤ ਨੂੰ) ਸਮਝ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਅਜੇ ਮੂਰਖ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੇ (ਸਚਮੁਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ) ਸਮਝ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਕਦੇ ਗੁੱਝਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਿ ਅਮਿਉ ਪੀਆਇਆ ਰਸਕਿ ਰਸਕਿ ਬਿਗਸਾਨਾ ਰੇ ॥੪॥੫॥੪੪॥
kaho naanak gur ami-o pee-aa-i-aa rasak rasak bigsaanaa ray. ||4||5||44||
Nanak says, the one whom the Guru blesses with the nectar of Naam, remains delighted savoring it again and again. ||4||5||44||
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ ਪਿਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਇਸ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਦ ਮਾਣ ਮਾਣ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ ਖਿੜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੫॥੪੪॥

ਬੰਧਨ ਕਾਟਿ ਬਿਸਾਰੇ ਅਉਗਨ ਅਪਨਾ ਬਿਰਦੁ ਸਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਰਿਆ ॥
banDhan kaat bisaaray a-ugan apnaa birad samHaari-a.
O’ my friends, those who seek God’s refuge, He overlooks their faults and honoring His tradition, He cuts their bonds of Maya.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਏ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ) ਬੰਧਨ ਕੱਟ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਕੀਤੇ) ਔਗੁਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਆਪਣਾ ਮੁੱਢ-ਕਦੀਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਸੁਭਾਉ ਚੇਤੇ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਹੋਏ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤ ਨਿਆਈ ਬਾਰਿਕ ਜਿਉ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਰਿਆ ॥੧॥
ho-ay kirpaal maat pit ni-aa-ee baarik ji-o partipaari-aa. ||1||
Becoming kind like a mother and father, He cherishes them like His children. |1|
ਮਾਂ ਪਿਉ ਵਾਂਗ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਲਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਗੁਰਸਿਖ ਰਾਖੇ ਗੁਰ ਗੋਪਾਲਿ ॥
gursikh raakhay gur gopaal.
God saves those disciples from vices who follow the Guru’s teachings.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਵਾਲੇ (ਵਡ-ਭਾਗੀ) ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਜਗਤ-ਪਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਾਢਿ ਲੀਏ ਮਹਾ ਭਵਜਲ ਤੇ ਅਪਨੀ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kaadh lee-ay mahaa bhavjal tay apnee nadar nihaal. ||1|| rahaa-o.
By casting His glance of grace, He saves them from the terrible world ocean of vices. ||1||Pause||
ਆਪਣੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਨਾਲ ਤੱਕ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਡੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕੱਢ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਣਿ ਜਮ ਤੇ ਛੁਟੀਐ ਹਲਤਿ ਪਲਤਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
jaa kai simran jam tay chhutee-ai halat palat sukh paa-ee-ai.
O’ my friend, by meditating upon Whom we escape from the demon of death and attain peace both here and hereafter.
ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਜਮਾਂ ਤੋਂ (ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਪਾਈਦੀ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਲੋਕ ਤੇ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਖ ਮਾਣੀਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸਾਸਿ ਗਿਰਾਸਿ ਜਪਹੁ ਜਪੁ ਰਸਨਾ ਨੀਤ ਨੀਤ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਈਐ ॥੨॥
saas giraas japahu jap rasnaa neet neet gun gaa-ee-ai. ||2||
We should recite His Name with every breath and morsel and always sing His praises. ||2||
ਹਰੇਕ ਸਾਹ ਨਾਲ ਹਰੇਕ ਗਿਰਾਹੀ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਆਪਣੀ ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ ਜਪਿਆ ਕਰੋ। ਆਉ, ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਰਹੀਏ ॥੨॥
ਭਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਦੁਖ ਨਾਠੇ ॥
bhagat paraym param pad paa-i-aa saaDhsang dukh naathay.
In the company of saints, through loving devotion to God, sorrows of the Guru’s followers flee away and they attain the supreme spiritual status.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਤੇ ਭਗਤੀ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ) ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਦਰਜਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਕੇ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਗੁਰਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ) ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਛਿਜੈ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਕਿਛੁ ਭਉ ਨ ਬਿਆਪੇ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਗਾਠੇ ॥੩॥
chhijai na jaa-ay kichh bha-o na bi-aapay har Dhan nirmal gaathay. ||3||
The wealth of God’s immaculate Name is amassed in their heart; there is no fear that this wealth will decrease, run out or will get stolen. ||3||
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਾਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਧਨ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਉਸ ਧਨ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਚੋਰ ਆਦਿਕ ਦਾ) ਡਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਿਆਪਦਾ, ਉਹ ਧਨ ਘਟਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਉਹ ਧਨ ਗੁਆਚਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ॥੩॥
ਅੰਤਿ ਕਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਏ ਸਹਾਈ ਇਤ ਉਤ ਰਾਖਨਹਾਰੇ ॥
ant kaal parabh bha-ay sahaa-ee it ut raakhanhaaray.
God becomes their helper at the time of death; He protects them here and hereafter.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ (ਗੁਰਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ) ਅੰਤ ਸਮੇਂ ਭੀ ਮਦਦਗਾਰ ਬਣਦੇ ਹਨ, ਇਸ ਲੋਕ ਤੇ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਮੀਤ ਹੀਤ ਧਨੁ ਮੇਰੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੇ ॥੪॥੬॥੪੫॥
paraan meet heet Dhan mayrai naanak sad balihaaray. ||4||6||45||
O’ Nanak, I am forever dedicated to God; His Name is such a wealth which is the support of my life and my closest friend. ||4||6||45||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਮੈਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਾਸ ਐਸਾ ਧਨ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਦਾ ਹਿਤੂ ਤੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੬॥੪੫॥

ਜਾ ਤੂੰ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਤਾ ਭਉ ਕੇਹਾ ਹਉ ਤੁਧੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਿਸੁ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ॥
jaa tooN saahib taa bha-o kayhaa ha-o tuDh bin kis saalaahee.
O’ God, since You are my Master then why should I have any fear? Except You, whom I need to praise?
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹੈਂ, ਤਾਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਡਰ-ਖ਼ਤਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ, ਮੈਂ ਤੈਥੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਲਾਘਾ ਕਰਾਂ?
ਏਕੁ ਤੂੰ ਤਾ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਹੈ ਮੈ ਤੁਧੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਾਹੀ ॥੧॥
ayk tooN taa sabh kichh hai mai tuDh bin doojaa naahee. ||1||
When just You are on my side, I feel that I have everything; except You there is none other for me as my helper. ||1||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜੇ ਇਕ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਵੱਲ ਰਹੇਂ ਤਾਂ ਹਰੇਕ ਲੋੜੀਂਦੀ ਸ਼ੈ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਾਸ ਹੈ, ਤੈਥੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਸਹਾਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਬਾਬਾ ਬਿਖੁ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥
baabaa bikh daykhi-aa sansaar.
O’ God, I have seen that the emotional attachment to the world is like a poison which destroys the spiritual life.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਵੇਖ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਜ਼ਹਰ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਮੁਕਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਰਖਿਆ ਕਰਹੁ ਗੁਸਾਈ ਮੇਰੇ ਮੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
rakhi-aa karahu gusaa-ee mayray mai naam tayraa aaDhaar. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O’ my Master-God, save me from this poison of Maya; Your Name is my only support. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਇਸ ਜ਼ਹਰ ਤੋਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਬਚਾਈ ਰੱਖ, ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੇਰੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਜਾਣਹਿ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਸਭਾ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਹੋਰੁ ਕਿਸੁ ਪਹਿ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਈਐ ॥
jaaneh birthaa sabhaa man kee hor kis peh aakh sunaa-ee-ai.
O’ God, You alone know the pain of all hearts, who else can we relate our pain and suffering?
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਹੀ (ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ) ਮਨ ਦੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਪੀੜਾ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੈਥੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦਾ ਦੁੱਖ-ਦਰਦ ਦੱਸਣਾ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਹੈ।
ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਬਉਰਾਇਆ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੨॥
vin naavai sabh jag ba-uraa-i-aa naam milai sukh paa-ee-ai. ||2||
Without meditating on God’s Name, the entire world has gone crazy. Celestial peace is attained only when we are blessed with Naam. ||2||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝ ਕੇ ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਝੱਲਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਏ ਤਾਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣੀਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਕਿਆ ਕਹੀਐ ਕਿਸੁ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਈਐ ਜਿ ਕਹਣਾ ਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜੀ ਪਾਸਿ ॥
ki-aa kahee-ai kis aakh sunaa-ee-ai je kahnaa so parabh jee paas.
O’ God, what should we say and to whom should we relate our pain and suffering? Whatever we need to say, we should say it to You.
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦਾ ਦੁੱਖ-ਦਰਦ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਭੀ ਆਖਣਾ ਹੋਵੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਆਖਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਨੂੰ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਹਿਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ l
ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਕੀਤਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਵਰਤੈ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਆਸ ॥੩॥
sabh kichh keetaa tayraa vartai sadaa sadaa tayree aas. ||3||
Whatever happens is according to Your Will; You are our hope, always and forever.||3||
ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਤੇਰਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੀ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਅਸਾਨੂੰ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਆਸ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਜੇ ਦੇਹਿ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਤਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਇਤ ਉਤ ਤੁਝਹਿ ਧਿਆਉ ॥
jay deh vadi-aa-ee taa tayree vadi-aa-ee it ut tujheh Dhi-aa-o.
O’ God, if You bless me with honor, then actually it is Your glory; both here and hereafter, I only meditate on You.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਮਾਣ-ਵਡਿਆਈ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਇਸ ਨਾਲ ਭੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਖਿਲਰਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਇਸ ਲੋਕ ਤੇ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖਦਾਤੇ ਮੈ ਤਾਣੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਇਕੁ ਨਾਉ ॥੪॥੭॥੪੬॥
naanak kay parabh sadaa sukh-daatay mai taan tayraa ik naa-o. ||4||7||46||
O’ always peace giving God of Nanak, Your Name alone is my support. |4|7|46|
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੭॥੪੬॥

amrit naam tumHaaraa thaakur ayhu mahaa ras janeh pee-o.
O’ Master-God, Your Name is the ambrosial nectar and only a rare devotee of Yours partakes this sublime elixir.
ਹੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ! ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਜਲ ਹੈ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਨਾਲ) ਇਹ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ-ਰਸ ਤੇਰੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਦਾਸ ਨੇ ਹੀ ਪੀਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਚੂਕੇ ਭੈ ਭਾਰੇ ਦੁਰਤੁ ਬਿਨਾਸਿਓ ਭਰਮੁ ਬੀਓ ॥੧॥
janam janam chookay bhai bhaaray durat binaasi-o bharam bee-o. ||1||
On drinking this nectar the fears and load of sins from countless births vanished; doubt and duality are also dispelled. ||1||
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਪੀਤਾ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਜਨਮਾਂਤਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਡਰ ਤੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਭਾਰ ਮੁੱਕ ਗਏ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਦੂਜੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ) ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਈ ॥੧॥
ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪੇਖਤ ਮੈ ਜੀਓ ॥
darsan paykhat mai jee-o.
I feel spiritually rejuvenated upon realizing You within my heart,
ਤੇਰਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਸੁਨਿ ਕਰਿ ਬਚਨ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਠਾਰੁ ਥੀਓ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ਤੇਰੇ ਬਚਨ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਮੇਰਾ ਤਨ ਠੰਡਾ-ਠਾਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਰੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਤੇ ਭਇਓ ਸਾਧਸੰਗੁ ਏਹੁ ਕਾਜੁ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਆਪਿ ਕੀਓ ॥
tumHree kirpaa tay bha-i-o saaDhsang ayhu kaaj tumH aap kee-o.
O’ God, it is by Your kindness that I have attained the company of the Guru; You Yourself have done this noble task.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਨਾਲ (ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਹਾਸਲ ਹੋਈ, ਇਹ (ਸੋਹਣਾ) ਕੰਮ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਕੀਤਾ,
ਦਿੜੁ ਕਰਿ ਚਰਣ ਗਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਰੇ ਸਹਜੇ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਭਈ ਖੀਓ ॥੨॥
dirh kar charan gahay parabh tumHray sehjay bikhi-aa bha-ee khee-o. ||2||
O’ God, following the Guru’s teaching, I meditated on You with firm determination; my love for Maya intuitively disappeared. ||2||
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਨਾਲ) ਮੈਂ, ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੇ ਚਰਨ ਘੁੱਟ ਕੇ ਫੜ ਲਏ, ਤੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਸੁਖੈਨ ਹੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਖ਼ਤਮ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ॥੨॥
ਸੁਖ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਨਾਮੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੁਮਰਾ ਏਹੁ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਲੀਓ ॥
sukh niDhaan naam parabh tumraa ayhu abhinaasee mantar lee-o.
O’ God, Your Name is the treasure of peace; I have started reciting this everlasting Mantra of Naam.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹੈ, ਕਦੇ ਨਾਹ ਨਾਸ ਹੋਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ-ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਮੈਂ ਜਪਣਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ,ਹੈ i
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਮੋਹਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਨਾ ਤਾਪੁ ਸੰਤਾਪੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਬੈਰੁ ਗੀਓ ॥੩॥
kar kirpaa mohi satgur deenaa taap santaap mayraa bair gee-o. ||3||
Showing his mercy, the true Guru blessed me with this mantra and all my pains, worries, and enmity went away. ||3||
ਇਹ ਨਾਮ-ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਦਿੱਤਾ; ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਹਰੇਕ ਕਿਸਮ ਦਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਤੇ ਵੈਰ-ਵਿਰੋਧ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ॥੩॥
ਧੰਨੁ ਸੁ ਮਾਣਸ ਦੇਹੀ ਪਾਈ ਜਿਤੁ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਅਪਨੈ ਮੇਲਿ ਲੀਓ ॥
Dhan so maanas dayhee paa-ee jit parabh apnai mayl lee-o.
Blessed is the human body I obtained, through which God has united me with Him.
ਮੈਨੂੰ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਲਿਆ।
ਧੰਨੁ ਸੁ ਕਲਿਜੁਗੁ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਗਾਈਐ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਧਾਰੁ ਹੀਓ ॥੪॥੮॥੪੭॥
Dhan so kalijug saaDhsang keertan gaa-ee-ai naanak naam aDhaar hee-o. ||4||8||47||
O’ Nanak, Kalyug is also blessed, if we sing God’s praises in the company of saints, and if Naam remains the prop of our heart. ||4||8||47||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਇਹ ਕਲਿਜੁਗ ਭੀ ਮੁਬਾਰਿਕ ਹੈ ਜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਏ ਤੇ ਜੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹੇ ॥੪॥੮॥੪੭॥
