ਹਉ ਮਾਰਉ ਹਉ ਬੰਧਉ ਛੋਡਉ ਮੁਖ ਤੇ ਏਵ ਬਬਾੜੇ ॥
ha-o maara-o ha-o banDha-o chhoda-o mukh tay ayv babaarhay.
One may boast and say, I can put to death, imprison, or liberate anyone.
ਆਪਣੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਐਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਬਕੇ “ਮੈਂ ਹਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਨੋ ਮਾਰ, ਬੰਨ੍ਹ, ਅਤੇ ਬਰੀ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ”.
ਆਇਆ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕਾ ਛੋਡਿ ਚਲਿਆ ਏਕ ਦਿਹਾੜੇ ॥੨॥
aa-i-aa hukam paarbarahm kaa chhod chali-aa ayk dihaarhay. ||2||
Ultimately one day comes God’s command, that person departs from here leaving everything. ||2||
ਆਖ਼ਿਰ ਇਕ ਦਿਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਮੌਤ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤੇ) ਇਹ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਇਥੋਂ ਤੁਰ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਬਹੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰਣੈਹਾਰੁ ਨ ਜਾਨੈ ॥
karam Dharam jugat baho kartaa karnaihaar na jaanai.
One may perform many kinds of rituals and righteous deeds in various ways, but does not realize the Creator-God.
ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਕਿਸਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਿਥੇ ਹੋਏ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੋਵੇ ਪਰ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਨਾਹ ਪਾਏ l
ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ਕਰੈ ਆਪਿ ਨ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਤਤੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਪਛਾਨੈ ॥
updays karai aap na kamaavai tat sabad na pachhaanai.
He preaches to others but does not practice what he preaches, and does not realize the true essence of the Guru’s word.
ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤਾਂ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹੇ ਪਰ ਆਪਣਾ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਨਾਹ ਬਣਾਏ, ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਸਮਝੇ l
ਨਾਂਗਾ ਆਇਆ ਨਾਂਗੋ ਜਾਸੀ ਜਿਉ ਹਸਤੀ ਖਾਕੁ ਛਾਨੈ ॥੩॥
naaNgaa aa-i-aa naaNgo jaasee ji-o hastee khaak chhaanai. ||3||
He came empty-handed in the world and would depart empty handed, his rituals and deeds are like that of an elephant, who rolls in dust after bathing. |3|
ਉਹ ਖ਼ਾਲੀ-ਹੱਥ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਇਥੋਂ ਖ਼ਾਲੀ-ਹੱਥ ਹੀ ਤੁਰ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ l ਉਸ ਦੇ ਇਹ ਵਿਖਾਵੇ ਦੇ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਕੰਮ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਹੀ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ) ਜਿਵੇਂ ਹਾਥੀ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਫਿਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਉਤੇ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਸੰਤ ਸਜਨ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਸਭਿ ਮੀਤਾ ਝੂਠਾ ਏਹੁ ਪਸਾਰਾ ॥
sant sajan sunhu sabh meetaa jhoothaa ayhu pasaaraa.
Listen, O’ dear saints and friends, perishable is all this expanse of the world.
ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਹੇ ਸੱਜਣੋ! ਹੇ ਮਿੱਤਰੋ! ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਣ ਲਵੋ, ਇਹ ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ-ਖਿਲਾਰਾ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਹੈ।
ਮੇਰੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਡੂਬੇ ਖਪਿ ਖਪਿ ਮੁਏ ਗਵਾਰਾ ॥
mayree mayree kar kar doobay khap khap mu-ay gavaaraa.
All those fools obsessed with the sense of possessiveness drown in the ocean of worldly attachments and needlessly remain spiritually dead.
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮੂਰਖ ਨਿੱਤ ਮੇਰੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹੇ, ਉਹ ਮਾਇਆ-ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚ ਡੁੱਬੇ ਰਹੇ ਤੇ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਹੋ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਸਹੇੜਦੇ ਰਹੇ।
ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਸਾਚਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਾ ॥੪॥੧॥੩੮॥
gur mil naanak naam Dhi-aa-i-aa saach naam nistaaraa. ||4||1||38||
O’ Nanak, one who meditated on Naam through the Guru’s teachings, crossed over the world ocean of vices by attuning to the eternal God’s Name. |4|1|38|
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ, ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਇਸ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਪਾਰ-ਉਤਾਰਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ॥੪॥੧॥੩੮॥

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

One eternal God. realized by the grace of the True Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਭ੍ਰਮ ਮਹਿ ਸੋਈ ਸਗਲ ਜਗਤ ਧੰਧ ਅੰਧ ॥
bharam meh so-ee sagal jagat DhanDh anDh.
Blinded by the worldly affairs, the entire world is asleep in the illusion of Maya.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!)ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਧੰਧਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੋਈ ਸਾਰੀ ਲੁਕਾਈ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਸੁੱਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ।
ਕੋਊ ਜਾਗੈ ਹਰਿ ਜਨੁ ॥੧॥
ko-oo jaagai har jan. ||1||
Only a rare devotee of God is awake and alert to false worldly allurements.||1||
ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਭਗਤ (ਇਸ ਮੋਹ ਦੀ ਨੀਂਦ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਜਾਗ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਮਹਾ ਮੋਹਨੀ ਮਗਨ ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ॥
mahaa mohnee magan pari-a pareet paraan.
The entire world is engrossed in the extremely captivating Maya; the love for Maya is dearer to people than their life.
ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਮੋਹ ਲੈਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਬਲੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਲੁਕਾਈ ਮਸਤ ਪਈ ਹੈ, ਮਾਇਆ ਨਾਲ ਇਹ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਜਿੰਦ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਭੀ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਲੱਗ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ
ਕੋਊ ਤਿਆਗੈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ॥੨॥
ko-oo ti-aagai virlaa. ||2||
Only a very rare person renounces this love for Maya. ||2||
ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਇਸ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਆਨੂਪ ਹਰਿ ਸੰਤ ਮੰਤ ॥
charan kamal aanoop har sant mant.
God’s immaculate Naam is incomparably beautiful and so is the Guru’s teaching,
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ, ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿਚ,
ਕੋਊ ਲਾਗੈ ਸਾਧੂ ॥੩॥
ko-oo laagai saaDhoo. ||3||
only a very rare saintly person attunes himself to them. ||3||
ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਜਾਗੇ ਗਿਆਨ ਰੰਗਿ ॥
naanak saaDhoo sang jaagay gi-aan rang.
O’ Nanak, one who remains awake from the slumber of love for Maya by coming to the holy congregation and by following the Guru’s teaching,
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਗਿਆਨ ਦੇ ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੀਕੇ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀ ਨੀਂਦ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਓਹੋ ਜਾਗਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਵਡਭਾਗੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ॥੪॥੧॥੩੯॥
vadbhaagay kirpaa. ||4||1||39||
is very fortunate and is blessed by God’s grace. ||4||1||39||
ਕੋਈ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਏ ॥੪॥੧॥੩੯॥

ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਪਰਵਾਨਾ ਸੂਖੁ ਸਹਜੁ ਮਨਿ ਸੋਈ ॥
jo tuDh bhaavai so parvaanaa sookh sahj man so-ee.
O’ God, whatever pleases You is acceptable to Your devotees; bliss and equipoise wells up in their mind by abiding to Your command.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਸਿਰ-ਮੱਥੇ ਉੱਤੇ) ਪਰਵਾਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇਰੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਹੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆਨੰਦ ਤੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ l
ਕਰਣ ਕਾਰਣ ਸਮਰਥ ਅਪਾਰਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਰੇ ਕੋਈ ॥੧॥
karan kaaran samrath apaaraa avar naahee ray ko-ee. ||1||
O’ God, You alone are capable of doing and getting everything done, You are infinite and there is no one other like You. ||1||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਨ ਤੇ ਕਰਾਣ ਦੀ ਤਾਕਤ ਰੱਖਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਹੈਂ, ਤੇਰੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਦਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ॥੧॥
ਤੇਰੇ ਜਨ ਰਸਕਿ ਰਸਕਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹਿ ॥
tayray jan rasak rasak gun gaavahi.
Your humble servants enjoy singing Your praises with enthusiasm and love.
ਤੇਰੇ ਦਾਸ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਸੁਆਦ ਨਾਲ ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਮਸਲਤਿ ਮਤਾ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਜਨ ਕੀ ਜੋ ਤੂੰ ਕਰਹਿ ਕਰਾਵਹਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
maslat mataa si-aanap jan kee jo tooN karahi karaaveh. ||1|| rahaa-o.
For Your devotees, whatever You do or make them do, that alone is the best advice, resolution and wisdom for their spiritual growth. ||1||Pause||
ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਕਰਾਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਉਹੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਹੈ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਅਗਵਾਈ ਲਈ) ਸਲਾਹ-ਮਸ਼ਵਰਾ ਤੇ ਫ਼ੈਸਲਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਤੁਮਾਰਾ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਰਸੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
amrit naam tumaaraa pi-aaray saaDhsang ras paa-i-aa.
O’ Beloved God, Your Name is the ambrosial nectar, Your devotees have obtained its sublime essence in the congregation of saintly persons.
ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਬੈਠ ਕੇ ਉਹ (ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ) ਰਸ ਮਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਅਘਾਇ ਸੇਈ ਜਨ ਪੂਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਗਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
taripat aghaa-ay say-ee jan pooray sukh niDhaan har gaa-i-aa. ||2||
The devotees who have sung praises of God, the treasure of peace, have become virtuous and fully satiated from worldly desires. ||2||
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਹਰੀ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕੀਤੀ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਵਲੋਂ) ਰੱਜ ਗਏ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤ ਹੋ ਗਏ ॥੨॥
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਟੇਕ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਰੀ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਤਾ ਕਉ ਨਾਹੀ ਚਿੰਤਾ ॥
jaa ka-o tayk tumHaaree su-aamee taa ka-o naahee chintaa.
O’ Master-God, those who have Your Support are not afflicted by any anxiety.
ਹੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਪੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀ।
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਦਇਆ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ਹੋਈ ਸੇ ਸਾਹ ਭਲੇ ਭਗਵੰਤਾ ॥੩॥
jaa ka-o da-i-aa tumaaree ho-ee say saah bhalay bhagvantaa. ||3||
Those who are blessed with Your mercy are spiritually wealthy and extremely fortunate. ||3||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਹ (ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਨਾਲ) ਸਾਹੂਕਾਰ ਬਣ ਗਏ ਉਹ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਬਣ ਗਏ ॥੩॥
ਭਰਮ ਮੋਹ ਧ੍ਰੋਹ ਸਭਿ ਨਿਕਸੇ ਜਬ ਕਾ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
bharam moh Dharoh sabh niksay jab kaa darsan paa-i-aa.
When a person experiences your presence in the heart, all his doubts, attachment, and conceit vanish.
ਜਦੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਮੋਹ, ਠੱਗੀਆਂ ਆਦਿਕ ਸਾਰੇ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਨਿਕਲ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਵਰਤਣਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੁ ਕੀਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੇ ਰੰਗਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੧॥੪੦॥
vartan naam naanak sach keenaa har naamay rang samaa-i-aa. ||4||1||40||
O’ Nanak, he makes the precious Naam as his daily sustenance and imbued with God’s love, he remains absorbed in Your Name. |4|1|40|
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਾਮਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਰੋਜ਼ ਦੀ ਵਰਤਣ ਬਣਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ (ਰੰਗੀਜ ਕੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੧॥੪੦॥

ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੀ ਮਲੁ ਧੋਵੈ ਪਰਾਈ ਆਪਣਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
janam janam kee mal Dhovai paraa-ee aapnaa keetaa paavai.
A slanderer washes off the filth of sins of other people’s many births but he himself suffers the consequences of slandering.
ਨਿੰਦਕ ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ ਧੋਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਮੰਦਾ ਫਲ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਭੋਗਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਈਹਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਨਹੀ ਦਰਗਹ ਢੋਈ ਜਮ ਪੁਰਿ ਜਾਇ ਪਚਾਵੈ ॥੧॥
eehaa sukh nahee dargeh dho-ee jam pur jaa-ay pachaavai. ||1||
He has no peace in this world and he has no place in God’s court; he suffers and is wasted away. ||1||
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਦਰ ਦੀ ਥਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ, ਉਹ ਨਰਕ ਵਿਚ ਅੱਪੜ ਕੇ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਨਿੰਦਕਿ ਅਹਿਲਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥
nindak ahilaa janam gavaa-i-aa.
The slanderer wastes this invaluable human life in vain.
ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ (ਨਿੰਦਾ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਆਪਣਾ) ਕੀਮਤੀ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਗਵਾ ਲਿਆ।
ਪਹੁਚਿ ਨ ਸਾਕੈ ਕਾਹੂ ਬਾਤੈ ਆਗੈ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
pahuch na saakai kaahoo baatai aagai tha-ur na paa-i-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
He cannot succeed in anything and he doesn’t get any peace and honor hereafter. ||1||Pause||
ਉਹ ਕਿਸੇ ਗਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਭੀ ਕਾਮਯਾਬ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ, ਅਗਾਂਹ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਦਰ ਦੀ ਥਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਕਿਰਤੁ ਪਇਆ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਬਪੁਰੇ ਕਾ ਕਿਆ ਓਹੁ ਕਰੈ ਬਿਚਾਰਾ ॥
kirat pa-i-aa nindak bapuray kaa ki-aa oh karai bichaaraa.
Such is the fate of the wretched slanderer, what can the poor creature do?
ਪਰ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਦੇ ਭੀ ਵੱਸ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ (ਉਹ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਦੇ ਮੰਦ ਕਰਮ ਤੋਂ ਹਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਪਿਛਲੇ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਸਕਾਰ ਉਸ ਮੰਦ-ਭਾਗੀ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਦੇ ਪੱਲੇ ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ l
ਤਹਾ ਬਿਗੂਤਾ ਜਹ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਰਾਖੈ ਓਹੁ ਕਿਸੁ ਪਹਿ ਕਰੇ ਪੁਕਾਰਾ ॥੨॥
tahaa bigootaa jah ko-ay na raakhai oh kis peh karay pukaaraa. ||2||
The slanderer is condemned to such a state of mind from which no one can save; to whom can he cry for help? ||2||
ਨਿੰਦਕ ਅਜੇਹੀ ਨਿੱਘਰੀ ਹੋਈ ਆਤਮਕ ਦਸ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਥੇ (ਭਾਵ, ਉਸ ਨਿੱਘਰੀ ਦਸ਼ਾ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕੱਢਣ ਲਈ) ਕੋਈ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਮਦਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ। ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਉਹ ਕਿਸੇ ਕੋਲ ਪੁਕਾਰ ਕਰਨ ਜੋਗਾ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ॥੨॥
