ਦਰਸਨ ਕੀ ਮਨਿ ਆਸ ਘਨੇਰੀ ਕੋਈ ਐਸਾ ਸੰਤੁ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਪਿਰਹਿ ਮਿਲਾਵੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
darsan kee man aas ghanayree ko-ee aisaa sant mo ka-o pireh milaavai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
In my heart is an intense longing for God. Is there a saint who can unite me with my Husband-God? ||1||Pause||
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਬੜੀ ਤਾਂਘ ਲੱਗੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਅਜੇਹਾ ਸੰਤ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਦੇਵੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਚਾਰਿ ਪਹਰ ਚਹੁ ਜੁਗਹ ਸਮਾਨੇ ॥
chaar pahar chahu jugah samaanay.
The four watches (twenty four hours) of the day in His separation seem like the four ages.
ਦਿਨ ਦੇ ਚਾਰ ਪਹਰ ਵਿਛੋੜੇ ਵਿਚ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਚਾਰ ਜੁਗਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਜਾਪਦੇ ਹਨ l
ਰੈਣਿ ਭਈ ਤਬ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਜਾਨੇ ॥੨॥
rain bha-ee tab ant na jaanay. ||2||
When the night falls, then it seems never ending. ||2||
ਜਦੋਂ ਰਾਤ ਆ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਤਦੋਂ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਮੁੱਕਣ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੀ ॥੨॥
ਪੰਚ ਦੂਤ ਮਿਲਿ ਪਿਰਹੁ ਵਿਛੋੜੀ ॥
panch doot mil pirahu vichhorhee.
The soul-bride separated from the Husband-God by the five vicious demons (lust, anger, greed, attachment and ego),
ਜਿਸ ਭੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੂੰ (ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ) ਪੰਜਾਂ ਵੈਰੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਵਿਛੋੜਿਆ ਹੈ,
ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਰੋਵੈ ਹਾਥ ਪਛੋੜੀ ॥੩॥
bharam bharam rovai haath pachhorhee. ||3||
wanders around wailing in regret. ||3||
ਉਹ ਭਟਕ ਭਟਕ ਕੇ ਰੋਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਪਛੁਤਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਸੁ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ॥
jan naanak ka-o har daras dikhaa-i-aa.
O’ Nanak, to whom God has revealed His Blessed Vision,
ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਦਰਸਨ ਦਿੱਤਾ,
ਆਤਮੁ ਚੀਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਪਰਮ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੧੫॥
aatam cheeneh param sukh paa-i-aa. ||4||15||
analizing his own spiritual life, he has obtained supreme peace. ||4||15||
ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਪੜਤਾਲ ਕੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ॥੪॥੧੫॥

Raag Aasaa, Fifth Guru:
ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਮਹਿ ਪਰਮ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ॥
har sayvaa meh param niDhaan.
The treasure of supreme spiritual state lies in the meditation on God.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਵਿਚ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਲੁਕਿਆ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੧॥
har sayvaa mukh amrit naam. ||1||
Reciting the ambrosial Name of God is His true service. ||1||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੂੰਹ ਨਾਲ ਉਚਾਰਨਾ-ਇਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਹਰਿ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਾਥੀ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਖਾਈ ॥
har mayraa saathee sang sakhaa-ee.
God is my Companion and He is always with me.
ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਮੇਰਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਾਥੀ ਹੈ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੈ।
ਦੁਖਿ ਸੁਖਿ ਸਿਮਰੀ ਤਹ ਮਉਜੂਦੁ ਜਮੁ ਬਪੁਰਾ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਕਹਾ ਡਰਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
dukh sukh simree tah maujood jam bapura mo kao kaha daraa-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Whenever I remember Him, during sorrow or pleasure, I find Him present. Therefore, how can the poor demon of death scare me? ||1||Pause||
ਦੁੱਖ ਵੇਲੇ ਸੁਖ ਵੇਲੇ ਜਦੋਂ ਭੀ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਉਹ ਉਥੇ ਹਾਜ਼ਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸੋ, ਵਿਚਾਰਾ ਜਮ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕਿਥੇ ਡਰਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ? ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਹਰਿ ਮੇਰੀ ਓਟ ਮੈ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਤਾਣੁ ॥
har mayree ot mai har kaa taan.
God is my refuge; God is my Power.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਓਟ ਹੈ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ,
ਹਰਿ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਖਾ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਦੀਬਾਣੁ ॥੨॥
har mayraa sakhaa man maahi deebaan. ||2||
God is my Friend and the support of my mind. ||2||
ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਅੰਦਰ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਹਰਿ ਮੇਰੀ ਪੂੰਜੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਵੇਸਾਹੁ ॥
har mayree poonjee mayraa har vaysaahu.
God’s Name is my wealth and God’s Name is my trust.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਰਾਸਿ-ਪੂੰਜੀ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਵਪਾਰ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਸਾਖ (ਇਤਬਾਰ) ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਧਨੁ ਖਟੀ ਹਰਿ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਾਹੁ ॥੩॥
gurmukh Dhan khatee har mayraa saahu. ||3||
By following the Guru’s teaching I am earning the wealth of Naam from God, who is my banker. ||3||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਕਮਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਦਾ ਸਰਮਾਇਆ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ||3||
ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਇਹ ਮਤਿ ਆਵੈ ॥
gur kirpaa tay ih mat aavai.
By the Guru’s grace, one who understands this concept,
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਇਸ ਵਪਾਰ ਦੀ ਸਮਝ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਅੰਕਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥੪॥੧੬॥
jan naanak har kai ank samaavai. ||4||16||
merges in God’s union, says Nanak. ||4||16||
ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਗੋਦ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੧੬॥

Raag Aasaa, Fifth Guru:
ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਹੋਇ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲੁ ਤ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਈ ॥
parabh ho-ay kirpaal ta ih man laa-ee.
If God shows mercy, only then I can focus my mind on the Guru’s teachings.
ਜੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੋਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਹੀ ਮੈਂ ਇਹ ਮਨ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਜੋੜ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ,
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਸਭੈ ਫਲ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥
satgur sayv sabhai fal paa-ee. ||1||
Then by following the true Guru’s teaching I can fulfill all my desires. ||1||
ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ (ਦੱਸੀ) ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮਨ-ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਫਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੧॥
ਮਨ ਕਿਉ ਬੈਰਾਗੁ ਕਰਹਿਗਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਪੂਰਾ ॥
man ki-o bairaag karhigaa satgur mayraa pooraa.
O’ my mind, why are you so worried? Remember that my True Guru is Perfect.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਤੂੰ ਕਿਉਂ ਘਾਬਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ? (ਯਕੀਨ ਰੱਖ, ਤੇਰੇ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਉਹ) ਪਿਆਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ (ਰਾਖਾ) ਹੈ,
ਮਨਸਾ ਕਾ ਦਾਤਾ ਸਭ ਸੁਖ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਸਰਿ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਭਰਪੂਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
mansaa kaa daataa sabh sukh niDhaan amrit sar sad hee bharpooraa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
God fulfills all the wishes and he is the treasure of all comforts. The Guru is like a pool always full to the brim with the ambrosial nectar of Naam. ||1||Pause||
ਜੋ ਮਨ ਦੀਆਂ ਲੋੜਾਂ ਪੂਰੀਆਂ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਦੇ ਸਰੋਵਰ-ਗੁਰੂ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ ਨਕਾ-ਨਕ ਭਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਚਰਣ ਕਮਲ ਰਿਦ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਧਾਰੇ ॥
charan kamal rid antar Dhaaray.
One who enshrines the Guru’s immaculate words within the heart,
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਨ ਟਿਕਾ ਲਏ,
ਪ੍ਰਗਟੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਰਾਮ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥੨॥
pargatee jot milay raam pi-aaray. ||2||
the divine Light enlightens him and he realizes dear God. ||2||
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਜਗ ਪਈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ ॥੨॥
ਪੰਚ ਸਖੀ ਮਿਲਿ ਮੰਗਲੁ ਗਾਇਆ ॥
panch sakhee mil mangal gaa-i-aa.
His five sensory organs joined together in singing God’s praises,
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪੰਜੇ ਗਿਆਨ-ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਗਾਉਣਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ,
ਅਨਹਦ ਬਾਣੀ ਨਾਦੁ ਵਜਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
anhad banee naad vajaa-i-aa. ||3||
and played the continuous melody of divine music. ||3||
ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਦਾ ਵਾਜਾ ਇਕ-ਰਸ ਵਜਾਣਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ॥੩॥
ਗੁਰੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤੁਠਾ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇ ॥
gur naanak tuthaa mili-aa har raa-ay.
On whom Guru Nanak became merciful, he met the sovereign God.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ!ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੋ ਪਿਆ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ,
ਸੁਖਿ ਰੈਣਿ ਵਿਹਾਣੀ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥੪॥੧੭॥
sukh rain vihaanee sahj subhaa-ay. ||4||17||
Then effortlessly his night of life passed in peace and comfort. ||4||17||
ਉਸ ਦੀ (ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ) ਦੀ ਰਾਤ ਸੁਖ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਬੀਤਣ ਲੱਗ ਪਈ ॥੪॥੧੭॥
ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Raag Aasaa, Fifth Guru:
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਹਰਿ ਪਰਗਟੀ ਆਇਆ ॥
kar kirpaa har pargatee aa-i-aa.
Showing Mercy, God Himself manifests in that person’s heart,
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਪ ਆ ਪਰਤੱਖ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਮਿਲਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਧਨੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
mil satgur Dhan pooraa paa-i-aa. ||1||
who meets the true Guru and attains the perfect wealth of God’s Name. ||1||
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਕਦੇ ਨਾਹ ਘਟਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ॥੧॥
ਐਸਾ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਸੰਚੀਐ ਭਾਈ ॥
aisaa har Dhan sanchee-ai bhaa-ee.
O my brother, we should amass only the wealth of Naam,
ਹੇ ਵੀਰ! ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਭਾਹਿ ਨ ਜਾਲੈ ਜਲਿ ਨਹੀ ਡੂਬੈ ਸੰਗੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਕਰਿ ਕਤਹੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
bhaahi na jaalai jal nahee doobai sang chhod kar katahu na jaa-ee. |1| rahaa-o.
Which is neither burnt by fire nor drowned in water and does not depart and go anywhere. ||1||Pause||
ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਅੱਗ ਸਾੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀ, ਜੋ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਡੁੱਬਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਅਤੇ ਜੋ ਸਾਥ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਭੀ ਹੋਰ ਥਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਤੋਟਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਨਿਖੁਟਿ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
tot na aavai nikhut na jaa-ay.
The wealth of God’s Name never falls short and never runs out.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਐਸਾ ਧਨ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ) ਕਦੇ ਘਾਟਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਜੋ ਕਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੁੱਕਦਾ।
ਖਾਇ ਖਰਚਿ ਮਨੁ ਰਹਿਆ ਅਘਾਇ ॥੨॥
khaa-ay kharach man rahi-aa aghaa-ay. ||2||
Even after enjoying and sharing it with others, the mind remains satisfied. ||2||
ਇਹ ਧਨ ਆਪ ਵਰਤ ਕੇ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੰਡ ਕੇ ਮਨ (ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਧਨ ਦੀ ਲਾਲਸਾ ਵਲੋਂ) ਰੱਜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਸੋ ਸਚੁ ਸਾਹੁ ਜਿਸੁ ਘਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਸੰਚਾਣਾ ॥
so sach saahu jis ghar har Dhan sanchaanaa.
Only that person is truly rich whose heart is amasses the wealth of Naam.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਜਮ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਸਾਹੂਕਾਰ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
ਇਸੁ ਧਨ ਤੇ ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਵਰਸਾਣਾ ॥੩॥
is Dhan tay sabh jag varsaanaa. ||3||
The entire world benefits from the wealth of Naam. ||3||
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਇਸ ਧਨ ਤੋਂ ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਲਾਭ ਉਠਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਤਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਿਸੁ ਪੁਰਬ ਲਿਖੇ ਕਾ ਲਹਣਾ ॥
tin har Dhan paa-i-aa jis purab likhay kaa lahnaa.
He alone receives the wealth of God’s Name, who is preordained to receive it.
ਕੇਵਲ ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਹ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਪਰਾਪਤੀ ਮੁੱਢ ਤੋਂ ਲਿਖੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ।
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਅੰਤਿ ਵਾਰ ਨਾਮੁ ਗਹਣਾ ॥੪॥੧੮॥
jan naanak ant vaar naam gahnaa. ||4||18||
O’ Nanak, at the very last moment, only Naam is one’s true ornament. ||4||18||
ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਅਖ਼ੀਰਲੇ ਵੇਲੇ ਦਾ ਗਹਣਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੧੮॥
ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Raag Aasaa, Fifth Guru:
ਜੈਸੇ ਕਿਰਸਾਣੁ ਬੋਵੈ ਕਿਰਸਾਨੀ ॥
jaisay kirsaan bovai kirsaanee.
Just as a farmer plants His crop,
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ! (ਜਿਵੇਂ) ਕੋਈ ਕਿਸਾਨ ਖੇਤੀ ਬੀਜਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਕਾਚੀ ਪਾਕੀ ਬਾਢਿ ਪਰਾਨੀ ॥੧॥
kaachee paakee baadh paraanee. ||1||
and at his will he cuts it down, whether it is ripe or unripe. (Similarly God who gives life, may call us back anytime, whether we are young or old). ||1||
(ਤੇ ਜਦੋਂ ਜੀ ਚਾਹੇ) ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਢ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਚਾਹੇ ਉਹ) ਕੱਚੀ (ਹੋਵੇ ਚਾਹੇ) ਪੱਕੀ ॥੧॥
ਜੋ ਜਨਮੈ ਸੋ ਜਾਨਹੁ ਮੂਆ ॥
jo janmai so jaanhu moo-aa.
Take it for granted, that he who is born shall die.
ਯਕੀਨ ਜਾਣੋ ਕਿ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਜੀਵ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਮਰਦਾ ਭੀ (ਜ਼ਰੂਰ) ਹੈ।
ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਭਗਤੁ ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਹੈ ਥੀਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
govind bhagat asthir hai thee-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Only God’s devotee understands this fact and remains free from the fear of death. ||1||Pause||
ਕੇਵਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਭਗਤ (ਇਸ ਅਟੱਲ ਨਿਯਮ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਸਹਮ ਵਲੋਂ) ਅਡੋਲ-ਚਿੱਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਦਿਨ ਤੇ ਸਰਪਰ ਪਉਸੀ ਰਾਤਿ ॥
din tay sarpar pa-usee raat.
Just as the day shall certainly be followed by the night,
ਦਿਨ ਦੇ ਮਗਰੋਂ ਜ਼ਰੂਰ ਰਾਤ ਪੈ ਜਾਇਗੀ ,
ਰੈਣਿ ਗਈ ਫਿਰਿ ਹੋਇ ਪਰਭਾਤਿ ॥੨॥
rain ga-ee fir ho-ay parbhaat. ||2||
and the night is followed by the morning. (Similarly, after birth there is death and after death there is birth).||2||
ਰਾਤ (ਭੀ) ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਫਿਰ ਮੁੜ ਸਵੇਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ l (ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਜਨਮ ਤੇ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਸਿਲਸਲਾ ਤੁਰਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ)॥੨॥
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਸੋਇ ਰਹੇ ਅਭਾਗੇ ॥
maa-i-aa mohi so-ay rahay abhaagay.
The unfortunate people remain entangled in the love of maya and forget the real purpose of human life.
ਬਦ-ਨਸੀਬ ਬੰਦੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ (ਫਸ ਕੇ ਜੀਵਨ-ਮਨੋਰਥ ਵਲੋਂ) ਗਾਫ਼ਿਲ ਹੋਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਕੋ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਜਾਗੇ ॥੩॥
gur parsaad ko virlaa jaagay. ||3||
By the Guru’s grace, only a rare one remains awake and aware of Maya. ||3||
ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ (ਮੋਹ ਦੀ ਨੀਂਦ ਤੋਂ) ਜਾਗਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
