ਜਜਿ ਕਾਜਿ ਪਰਥਾਇ ਸੁਹਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jaj kaaj parthaa-ay suhaa-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
She (devotional worship) looks beauteous on all occasions of worship, marriage, and other worldly functions.||1||Pause||
ਜੇਹੜੀ ਵਿਆਹ ਸ਼ਾਦੀਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਜਿਚਰੁ ਵਸੀ ਪਿਤਾ ਕੈ ਸਾਥਿ ॥
jichar vasee pitaa kai saath.
As long as this virtuous bride (devotional worship) lives with her father (Guru),
(ਇਹ ਭਗਤੀ-ਰੂਪ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ) ਜਿਤਨਾ ਚਿਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਪਾਸ ਹੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਤਿਚਰੁ ਕੰਤੁ ਬਹੁ ਫਿਰੈ ਉਦਾਸਿ ॥
tichar kant baho firai udaas.
Till then the husband (human being) wanders around in sadness without the devotional worship.
ਉਤਨਾ ਚਿਰ ਜੀਵ ਬਹੁਤ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਰਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਸਤ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਮਨਾਇਆ ॥
kar sayvaa sat purakh manaa-i-aa.
But when he pleases God by following the Guru’s teachings,
ਜਦੋਂ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਜੀਵ ਨੇ) ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਕੀਤਾ,
ਗੁਰਿ ਆਣੀ ਘਰ ਮਹਿ ਤਾ ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
gur aanee ghar meh taa sarab sukh paa-i-aa. ||2||
the Guru enshrines the devotional worship in his heart and he obtaines peace and comforts. ||2||
ਤਦੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਇਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ-) ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਲਿਆ ਬਿਠਾਈ ਤੇ ਇਸ ਨੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਏ ॥੨॥
ਬਤੀਹ ਸੁਲਖਣੀ ਸਚੁ ਸੰਤਤਿ ਪੂਤ ॥
bateeh sulakh-nee sach santat poot.
She (devotional bride) has all the thirty two qualities of a virtuous woman and her progeny includes children like truth and contentment .
ਇਹ (ਭਗਤੀ-ਰੂਪ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ) ਬੱਤੀ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਲੱਛਣਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਸੱਤਵਾਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਆਦ ਉਲਾਦ।
ਆਗਿਆਕਾਰੀ ਸੁਘੜ ਸਰੂਪ ॥
aagi-aakaaree sugharh saroop.
She is obedient, sagacious, and beautiful.
(ਇਹ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ) ਆਗਿਆ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ, ਸੁਚੱਜੀ ਹੈ, ਸੋਹਣੇ ਰੂਪ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ।
ਇਛ ਪੂਰੇ ਮਨ ਕੰਤ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥
ichh pooray man kant su-aamee.
She fulfills all the wishes of her husband-God.
ਆਪਣੇ ਪਤੀ (ਸਾਂਈ) ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਇੱਛਾ ਇਹ ਪੂਰੀ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ l
ਸਗਲ ਸੰਤੋਖੀ ਦੇਰ ਜੇਠਾਨੀ ॥੩॥
sagal santokhee dayr jaythaanee. ||3||
Her sisters-in-law (hope and desire) are now totally content. ||3||
ਦਿਰਾਣੀ ਜਿਠਾਣੀ (ਆਸਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ) ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਹਰ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸੰਤੋਖ ਦੇਂਦੀ ਹੈ (ਸ਼ਾਂਤ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ) ॥੩॥
ਸਭ ਪਰਵਾਰੈ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਰੇਸਟ ॥
sabh parvaarai maahi saraysat.
She is the most noble of all the family. (virtues such as a sweet talk, compassion, humility etc).
ਸਾਰੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਪਰਵਾਰ (ਮਿੱਠਾ ਬੋਲ, ਨਿਮ੍ਰਤਾ, ਸੇਵਾ, ਦਾਨ, ਦਇਆ) ਵਿਚ ਭਗਤੀ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਤਮ ਹੈ l
ਮਤੀ ਦੇਵੀ ਦੇਵਰ ਜੇਸਟ ॥
matee dayvee dayvar jaysat.
She counsels her younger and elder brothers-in-laws (the other sense organs).
ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਦਿਉਰਾਂ ਜੇਠਾਂ (ਗਿਆਨ-ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ) ਨੂੰ ਮੱਤਾਂ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ (ਚੰਗੇ ਰਾਹੇ ਪਾਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ)।
ਧੰਨੁ ਸੁ ਗ੍ਰਿਹੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਟੀ ਆਇ ॥
Dhan so garihu jit pargatee aa-ay.
Blessed is that house-hold (heart) in which she (devotional worship) becomes manifest.
ਉਹ ਹਿਰਦਾ-ਘਰ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਇਹ (ਭਗਤੀ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ) ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ l
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੁਖੇ ਸੁਖਿ ਵਿਹਾਇ ॥੪॥੩॥
jan naanak sukhay sukh vihaa-ay. ||4||3||
O’ Nanak, he in whose heart she (devotional worship) manifests, spends his life in peace and bliss.||4||3||
ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਗਟ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਉਮਰ ਸੁਖ ਆਨੰਦ ਵਿਚ ਬੀਤਦੀ ਹੈ ੪॥੩॥

Raag Aasaa, Fifth Guru:
ਮਤਾ ਕਰਉ ਸੋ ਪਕਨਿ ਨ ਦੇਈ ॥
mataa kara-o so pakan na day-ee.
Whatever I plan, she (evil bride-Maya) does not allow it to come to pass.
ਮੈ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਭੀ ਸੰਕਲਪ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਇਹ ਮਾਇਆ) ਸਿਰੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਚੜ੍ਹਨ ਦੇਂਦੀ,
ਸੀਲ ਸੰਜਮ ਕੈ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਖਲੋਈ ॥
seel sanjam kai nikat khalo-ee.
She blocks the way of goodness and self-discipline.
ਮਿੱਠੇ ਸੁਭਾਉ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਜਮ ਦੇ ਇਹ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਨੇੜੇ (ਰਾਖੀ ਬਣ ਕੇ) ਖਲੋਤੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ l
ਵੇਸ ਕਰੇ ਬਹੁ ਰੂਪ ਦਿਖਾਵੈ ॥
vays karay baho roop dikhaavai.
She wears many disguises and assumes many forms.
(ਇਹ ਮਾਇਆ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਵੇਸ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਰੂਪ ਵਿਖਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਬਸਨਿ ਨ ਦੇਈ ਵਖਿ ਵਖਿ ਭਰਮਾਵੈ ॥੧॥
garihi basan na day-ee vakh vakh bharmaavai. ||1||
She does not allow my mind to dwell in my own self and forces my mind to wander around in different directions. ||1||
ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਇਹ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਟਿਕਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੇਂਦੀ, ਕਈ ਤਰੀਕਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਭਟਕਾਂਦੀ ਫਿਰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਘਰ ਕੀ ਨਾਇਕਿ ਘਰ ਵਾਸੁ ਨ ਦੇਵੈ ॥
ghar kee naa-ik ghar vaas na dayvai.
She (Maya) has become the mistress of my home (heart) and she does not allow me to live in peace.
ਇਹ (ਮਾਇਆ ਮੇਰੇ) ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਦੀ ਮਾਲਕ ਬਣ ਬੈਠੀ ਹੈ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਘਰ ਦਾ ਵਸੇਬਾ ਦੇਂਦੀ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ l
ਜਤਨ ਕਰਉ ਉਰਝਾਇ ਪਰੇਵੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jatan kara-o urjhaa-ay parayvai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
The more I try to get out of its grip, the more it entangles me. ||1||Pause||
ਜੇ ਮੈਂ (ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਲਈ) ਜਤਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਤਾਂ ਸਗੋਂ ਵਧੀਕ ਉਲਝਣਾਂ ਪਾ ਦੇਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਧੁਰ ਕੀ ਭੇਜੀ ਆਈ ਆਮਰਿ ॥
Dhur kee bhayjee aa-ee aamar.
In the beginning, she (the Maya) was sent by God as a helper,
(ਇਹ ਮਾਇਆ) ਧੁਰ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਤੋਂ ਤਾਂ ਸੇਵਕਾ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਭੇਜੀ ਹੋਈ (ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਆਈ ਹੈ,
ਨਉ ਖੰਡ ਜੀਤੇ ਸਭਿ ਥਾਨ ਥਨੰਤਰ ॥
na-o khand jeetay sabh thaan thanantar.
but now she has overwhelmed the nine continents, all places and interspaces.
(ਪਰ ਇਥੇ ਆ ਕੇ ਇਸ ਨੇ) ਨੌ ਖੰਡਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਜਿੱਤ ਲਈ ਹੈ, ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਥਾਂ ਜਿੱਤ ਲਏ ਹਨ l
ਤਟਿ ਤੀਰਥਿ ਨ ਛੋਡੈ ਜੋਗ ਸੰਨਿਆਸ ॥
tat tirath na chhodai jog sanni-aas.
It has not spared people living at holy banks and pilgrimage places, nor any yogis and ascetics.
ਨਦੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਕੰਢੇ ਉਤੇ ਹਰੇਕ ਤੀਰਥ ਉਤੇ ਬੈਠੇ ਜੋਗ-ਸਾਧਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਤੇ ਸੰਨਿਆਸ ਧਾਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਭੀ (ਇਸ ਮਾਇਆ ਨੇ) ਨਹੀਂ ਛੱਡੇ।
ਪੜਿ ਥਾਕੇ ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਬੇਦ ਅਭਿਆਸ ॥੨॥
parh thaakay simrit bayd abhi-aas. ||2||
Pundits who read and practice Simrities and Vedas have given up before it. ||2||
ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੀਆਂ ਪੜ੍ਹ ਪੜ੍ਹ ਕੇ, ਤੇ ਵੇਦਾਂ ਦੇ ਅਭਿਆਸ ਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਲੋਕ ਭੀ (ਇਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ) ਹਾਰ ਗਏ ਹਨ ॥੨॥
ਜਹ ਬੈਸਉ ਤਹ ਨਾਲੇ ਬੈਸੈ ॥
jah baisa-o tah naalay baisai.
She (Maya) always accompanies me and controls my mind.
ਮੈਂ ਜਿਥੇ ਭੀ (ਜਾ ਕੇ) ਬੈਠਦਾ ਹਾਂ (ਇਹ ਮਾਇਆ) ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਆ ਬੈਠਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਸਗਲ ਭਵਨ ਮਹਿ ਸਬਲ ਪ੍ਰਵੇਸੈ ॥
sagal bhavan meh sabal parvaysai.
She has imposed her power upon the entire world.
ਸਾਰੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਉਹ ਧਿੰਗੋ-ਜ਼ੋਰੀ ਦਾਖਲ ਹੋਈ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ।
ਹੋਛੀ ਸਰਣਿ ਪਇਆ ਰਹਣੁ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥
hochhee saran pa-i-aa rahan na paa-ee.
By seeking shelter from a weak person I cannot save myself from her.
ਕਿਸੇ ਕਮਜ਼ੋਰ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ, ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਬਚਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਕਹੁ ਮੀਤਾ ਹਉ ਕੈ ਪਹਿ ਜਾਈ ॥੩॥
kaho meetaa ha-o kai peh jaa-ee. ||3||
O my friend, tell me: where may I go to seek help? ||3||
ਸੋ, ਹੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ! ਦੱਸ, (ਇਸ ਮਾਇਆ ਤੋਂ ਖਹਿੜਾ ਛੁਡਾਣ ਲਈ) ਮੈਂ ਕਿਸ ਦੇ ਪਾਸ ਜਾਵਾਂ ॥੩॥
ਸੁਣਿ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪਹਿ ਆਇਆ ॥
sun updays satgur peh aa-i-aa.
Upon listening to the advice of the Guru’s follower I have come to the true Guru.
(ਸਤਸੰਗੀ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਪਾਸ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ l
ਗੁਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੋਹਿ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ ॥
gur har har naam mohi mantar drirh-aa-i-aa.
The Guru made me resolutely enshrine the mantra of God’s Name in my mind.
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਮੈਨੂੰ (ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਪੱਕਾ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ਅਨੰਤਾ ॥
nij ghar vasi-aa gun gaa-ay anantaa.
Now, I sing the Praises of the Infinite God and I am at peace as if I dwell in the home of my own inner self.
ਮੈਂ ਹੁਣ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਿਜ ਦੇ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਅੰਦਰ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦਾ ਜੱਸ ਗਾਉਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮਿਲਿਓ ਨਾਨਕ ਭਏ ਅਚਿੰਤਾ ॥੪॥
parabh mili-o naanak bha-ay achintaa. ||4||
O’ Nanak, I have realized God and I am not worried about the Maya. ||4||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਮੈਂ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਹੱਲਿਆਂ ਵਲੋਂ) ਬੇ-ਫ਼ਿਕਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹਾਂ ॥੪॥
ਘਰੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਇਹ ਨਾਇਕਿ ਹਮਾਰੀ ॥
ghar mayraa ih naa-ik hamaaree.
My home (heart) is now my own and Maya is now my mistress.
ਇਹ ਘਰ (ਹਿਰਦਾ) ਮੇਰਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਘਰ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਇਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਭੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਦਾਸੀ ਬਣ ਗਈ ਹੈ।
ਇਹ ਆਮਰਿ ਹਮ ਗੁਰਿ ਕੀਏ ਦਰਬਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ ॥੪॥੪॥
ih aamar ham gur kee-ay darbaaree. ||1|| rahaa-o doojaa. ||4||4||
The Guru has made her my servant, and made me a courtier in God’s court. ||1||Second Pause||4||4||
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੇਰੀ ਸੇਵਕਾ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ਰਹਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ॥੪॥੪॥
ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Raag Aasaa, Fifth Guru:
ਪ੍ਰਥਮੇ ਮਤਾ ਜਿ ਪਤ੍ਰੀ ਚਲਾਵਉ ॥
parathmay mataa je patree chalaava-o.
I was first advised to send a conciliatory letter to the enemy.
ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸਲਾਹ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਗਈ ਕਿ (ਵੈਰੀ ਬਣ ਕੇ ਆ ਰਹੇ ਨੂੰ) ਚਿੱਠੀ ਲਿਖ ਭੇਜਾਂ,
ਦੁਤੀਏ ਮਤਾ ਦੁਇ ਮਾਨੁਖ ਪਹੁਚਾਵਉ ॥
dutee-ay mataa du-ay maanukh pahuchaava-o.
The second suggestion was that I should send two persons to mediate.
ਦੁਇਮ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮਸ਼ਵਰਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਕਿ ਰਾਜੀਨਾਮਾ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਦੋ ਆਦਮੀ ਭੇਜੇ ਜਾਣ।.
ਤ੍ਰਿਤੀਏ ਮਤਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰਉ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥
taritee-ay mataa kichh kara-o upaa-i-aa.
The third suggestion was that I must make some preparations to defend.
ਤੀਜੀ ਸਲਾਹ ਮਿਲੀ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਕੋਈ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਉਪਾਉ ਜ਼ਰੂਰ ਕਰਾਂ,
ਮੈ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੁਹੀ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥੧॥
mai sabh kichh chhod parabh tuhee Dhi-aa-i-aa. ||1||
But, O’ God, forsaking everything else, I only meditated on You.||1||
ਪਰ ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਤਨ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ॥੧॥
ਮਹਾ ਅਨੰਦ ਅਚਿੰਤ ਸਹਜਾਇਆ ॥
mahaa anand achint sehjaa-i-aa.
Now, I am intuitively blissful and free of any worry.
ਮੈਂ ਹੁਣ ਪਰਮ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਬੇਫਿਕਰ ਹਾਂ।
ਦੁਸਮਨ ਦੂਤ ਮੁਏ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
dusman doot mu-ay sukh paa-i-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
The enemies and evildoers have perished and I am at peace. ||1||Pause||
ਸਾਰੇ ਵੈਰੀ ਦੁਸ਼ਮਨ ਮੁੱਕ ਗਏ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਦੀਆ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ॥
satgur mo ka-o dee-aa updays.
The True Guru blessed me with the teachings,
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਦਿੱਤੀ,
ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਸਭੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਦੇਸੁ ॥
jee-o pind sabh har kaa days.
that this soul, body and everything belong to God.
ਕਿ ਇਹ ਜਿੰਦ ਤੇ ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਲਈ ਥਾਂ ਹੈ।
ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰੀ ਸੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਤਾਣੁ ॥
jo kichh karee so tayraa taan.
Therefore O’ God, whatever I do is on the assurance of Your support.
(ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਮੈਂ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਭੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ,
ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੀ ਓਟ ਤੂੰਹੈ ਦੀਬਾਣੁ ॥੨॥
tooN mayree ot tooNhai deebaan. ||2||
You are my refuge and You are my support. ||2||
ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਓਟ ਹੈਂ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈਂ ॥੨॥
ਤੁਧਨੋ ਛੋਡਿ ਜਾਈਐ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੈਂ ਧਰਿ ॥
tuDhno chhod jaa-ee-ai parabh kaiN Dhar.
O’ God, forsaking You, who else should we go to?
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੈਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਹੋਰ ਜਾਈਏ ਭੀ ਕਿਹੜੇ ਪਾਸੇ?
ਆਨ ਨ ਬੀਆ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਮਸਰਿ ॥
aan na bee-aa tayree samsar.
There is no other, comparable to You.
ਤੇਰੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਦਾ ਦੂਜਾ ਕੋਈ ਹੈ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਤੇਰੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਕਉ ਕਿਸ ਕੀ ਕਾਣਿ ॥
tayray sayvak ka-o kis kee kaan.
Who else Yourdevotee cav dependent upon?
ਤੇਰੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਨੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਕਿਸ ਦੀ ਮੁਥਾਜੀ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ?
ਸਾਕਤੁ ਭੂਲਾ ਫਿਰੈ ਬੇਬਾਣਿ ॥੩॥
saakat bhoolaa firai baybaan. ||3||
A misled cynic keeps going to different places for support, as if wandering in the wilderness. ||3||
ਰੱਬ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਟੁੱਟਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪੈ ਕੇ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਉਜਾੜ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ॥੩॥
ਤੇਰੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਕਹੀ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
tayree vadi-aa-ee kahee na jaa-ay.
O’ God), Your glory cannot be described.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ,
ਜਹ ਕਹ ਰਾਖਿ ਲੈਹਿ ਗਲਿ ਲਾਇ ॥
jah kah raakh laihi gal laa-ay.
Wherever I am, you save me by keeping me in Your protection.
ਤੂੰ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ) ਗਲ ਨਾਲ ਲਾ ਕੇ ਬਚਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥
naanak daas tayree sarnaa-ee.
O’ God, I am always in Your refuge, says Nanak.
ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਹੀ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਰਾਖੀ ਪੈਜ ਵਜੀ ਵਾਧਾਈ ॥੪॥੫॥
parabh raakhee paij vajee vaaDhaa-ee. ||4||5||
God has preserved my honor and I always remain in high spirits.||4||5||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਰੱਖ ਲਈ ਹੈ (ਮੁਸੀਬਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਵੇਲੇ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਨਾਲ) ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਚੜ੍ਹਦੀ ਕਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਬਲ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੫॥
