raakh saran jagdeesur pi-aaray mohi sarDhaa poor har gusaa-ee.
O’ Beloved Master of the universe, please keep me under Your protection and fulfill my craving for Your blessed sight.
ਹੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖ, ਮੇਰੀ ਇਹ ਤਾਂਘ ਪੂਰੀ ਕਰ।
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਅਨਦੁ ਹੋਤ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਨਿਮਖ ਦਿਖਾਈ ॥੨॥੩੯॥੧੩॥੧੫॥੬੭॥
jan naanak kai man anad hot hai har darsan nimakh dikhaa-ee. |2|39|13|15|67|
O’ God, even when You show Your sight for just a fleeting moment, a state of bliss prevails in the mind of the devotee Nanak. ||2||39||13||15||67||
ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਜਦੋਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇਰੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਚਾਉ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥੩੯॥੧੩॥੧੫॥੬੭॥

Raag Aasaa, Second Beat, Fifth Guru:
ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik-oNkaar satgur parsaad.
One eternal God. Realized by the grace of the true Guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਨਿ ਲਾਈ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਸੋਈ ਫਿਰਿ ਖਾਇਆ ॥
jin laa-ee pareet so-ee fir khaa-i-aa.
One who loves Maya, is ultimately ruined by Maya itself.
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਪਾਇਆ, ਉਹੀ ਪਰਤ ਕੇ ਖਾਧਾ ਗਿਆ (ਮਾਇਆ ਨੇ ਉਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਖਾ ਲਿਆ)।
ਜਿਨਿ ਸੁਖਿ ਬੈਠਾਲੀ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਉ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ॥
jin sukh baithaalee tis bha-o bahut dikhaa-i-aa.
Maya totally terrifies the one who hoards it carefully.
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ (ਇਸ ਨੂੰ) ਆਦਰ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੋਲ ਬਿਠਾਇਆ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਇਸ ਮਾਇਆ ਨੇ) ਬੜਾ ਡਰ ਵਿਖਾਲਿਆ।
ਭਾਈ ਮੀਤ ਕੁਟੰਬ ਦੇਖਿ ਬਿਬਾਦੇ ॥
bhaa-ee meet kutamb daykh bibaaday.
Being swayed by Maya, siblings, friends and relatives get into conflicts.
ਭਰਾ, ਮਿੱਤਰ ਤੇ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਦੇ ਜੀਵ, ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਇਸ ਮਾਇਆ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਆਪੋ ਵਿਚ ਝਗੜਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਹਮ ਆਈ ਵਸਗਤਿ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੇ ॥੧॥
ham aa-ee vasgat gur parsaaday. ||1||
By the Guru’s grace, Maya has come under my control. ||1||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਇਹ ਮੇਰੇ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਗਈ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਐਸਾ ਦੇਖਿ ਬਿਮੋਹਿਤ ਹੋਏ ॥
aisaa daykh bimohit ho-ay.
Even after seeing how Maya causes these disputes, all are captivated by it.
(ਮਾਇਆ ਨੂੰ) ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਮਸਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ-
ਸਾਧਿਕ ਸਿਧ ਸੁਰਦੇਵ ਮਨੁਖਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਾਧੂ ਸਭਿ ਧ੍ਰੋਹਨਿ ਧ੍ਰੋਹੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
saaDhik siDh surdayv manukhaa bin saaDhoo sabh Dharohan Dharohay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
The ascetics, adepts, angels, and all human beings, except the saints, are deceived by Maya. ||1||Pause||
ਸਾਧਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਜੋਗੀ, ਸਾਧਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪੁੱਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਜੋਗੀ, ਦੇਵਤੇ, ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਸਭ ਦੀ ਇਹ ਹਾਲਤ ਹੈ।) ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਠਗਣੀ (ਮਾਇਆ) ਦੇ ਹੱਥੀਂ ਠੱਗੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਇਕਿ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਉਦਾਸੀ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਕਾਮਿ ਵਿਆਪੈ ॥
ik fireh udaasee tinH kaam vi-aapai.
Many people wander around as recluse; to them it afflicts in the form of lust.
ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਬੰਦੇ ਤਿਆਗੀ ਬਣ ਕੇ ਤੁਰੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਕਾਮ-ਵਾਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਕਲ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਦਬਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਇਕਿ ਸੰਚਹਿ ਗਿਰਹੀ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਹੋਇ ਨ ਆਪੈ ॥
ik saNcheh girhee tinH ho-ay na aapai.
Many householders amass Maya but it does not become their own.
ਕਈ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਸਤੀ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਇਕੱਠੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਇਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣਦੀ।
ਇਕਿ ਸਤੀ ਕਹਾਵਹਿ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਕਲਪਾਵੈ ॥
ik satee kahaaveh tinH bahut kalpaapai.
Many people call themselves as men of charity but it torments them terribly.
ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਬੰਦੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ) ਦਾਨੀ ਅਖਵਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਭੀ) ਇਹ ਬਹੁਤ ਦੁਖੀ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਹਮ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਲਗਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੨॥
ham har raakhay lag satgur paavai. ||2||
God has saved me from the influence of Maya by directing me to the Guru’s refuge. ||2||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨੀ ਲਗਣ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ (ਇਸ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪੰਜੇ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਤਪੁ ਕਰਤੇ ਤਪਸੀ ਭੂਲਾਏ ॥
tap kartay tapsee bhoolaa-ay.
Maya leads astray even the ascetics engaged in their penance.
ਤਪ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਤਪਸ੍ਵੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਮਾਇਆ ਨੇ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਪੰਡਿਤ ਮੋਹੇ ਲੋਭਿ ਸਬਾਏ ॥
pandit mohay lobh sabaa-ay.
Maya traps all the pundits in greed.
ਸਾਰੇ ਵਿਦਵਾਨ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਲੋਕ ਲੋਭ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਹੱਥੀਂ) ਠੱਗੇ ਗਏ।
ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਮੋਹੇ ਮੋਹਿਆ ਆਕਾਸੁ ॥
tarai gun mohay mohi-aa aakaas.
The humans abiding by the three modes (vice, virtue and power) and the angels are being enticed by Maya.
ਸਾਰੇ ਤ੍ਰੈ-ਗੁਣੀ ਜੀਵ ਠੱਗੇ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਦੇਵਤੇ ਭੀ ਠੱਗੇ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
ਹਮ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਰਾਖੇ ਦੇ ਕਰਿ ਹਾਥੁ ॥੩॥
ham satgur raakhay day kar haath. ||3||
The true Guru has saved me by giving me his support ||3||
ਸਾਨੂੰ ਤਾਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਹੱਥ ਦੇ ਕੇ (ਇਸ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਬਚਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕੀ ਹੋਇ ਵਰਤੀ ਦਾਸਿ ॥
gi-aanee kee ho-ay vartee daas.
Maya serves a spiritually wise person like a servant.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਇਹ ਮਾਇਆ) ਉਸ ਦੀ ਦਾਸੀ ਬਣ ਕੇ ਕਾਰ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਕਰ ਜੋੜੇ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰੇ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥
kar jorhay sayvaa karay ardaas.
Maya serves him like a humble servant and says,
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ (ਦੋਵੇਂ) ਹੱਥ ਜੋੜਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਅੱਗੇ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ,
ਜੋ ਤੂੰ ਕਹਹਿ ਸੁ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵਾ ॥
jo tooN kaheh so kaar kamaavaa.
that “I would do whatever you want me to do”.
ਮੈਂ ਉਹੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਰਾਂਗੀ ਜੇਹੜੀ ਤੂੰ ਆਖੇਂ।
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਨੇੜਿ ਨ ਆਵਾ ॥੪॥੧॥
jan naanak gurmukh nayrh na aavaa. ||4||1||
O’ Nanak, Maya says “I will not come near the Guru’s follower”. ||4||1||
ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਮਾਇਆ ਆਖਦੀ ਹੈ) ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਢੁਕਾਂਗੀ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੧॥
ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Raag Aasaa, Fifth Guru:
ਸਸੂ ਤੇ ਪਿਰਿ ਕੀਨੀ ਵਾਖਿ ॥
sasoo tay pir keenee vaakh.
My Husband-God has separated me from the mother-in-law (ignorance).
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ (ਆਗਿਆਨਤਾ) ਸੱਸ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਖ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ,
ਦੇਰ ਜਿਠਾਣੀ ਮੁਈ ਦੂਖਿ ਸੰਤਾਪਿ ॥
dayr jithaanee mu-ee dookh santaap.
My younger and elder sister-in-law (hope and desire) have died in grief.
ਮੇਰੀ ਦਿਰਾਣੀ ਜਿਠਾਣੀ (ਆਸਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ), ਇਸ ਦੁੱਖ ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਨਾਲ ਮਰ ਗਈ ਹੈ (ਕਿ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਤੀ ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ)।
ਘਰ ਕੇ ਜਿਠੇਰੇ ਕੀ ਚੂਕੀ ਕਾਣਿ ॥
ghar kay jithayray kee chookee kaan.
My dependence on the elder brother-in-law (judge of righteousness) has ended.
(ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ) ਜੇਠ (ਧਰਮ-ਰਾਜ) ਦੀ ਭੀ ਧੌਂਸ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹੀ।
ਪਿਰਿ ਰਖਿਆ ਕੀਨੀ ਸੁਘੜ ਸੁਜਾਣਿ ॥੧॥
pir rakhi-aa keenee sugharh sujaan. ||1||
My clever and wise Husband-God has totally protected me. ||1||
ਸੁਚੱਜੇ ਸਿਆਣੇ ਪਤੀ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਸੁਨਹੁ ਲੋਕਾ ਮੈ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਰਸੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
sunhu lokaa mai paraym ras paa-i-aa.
Listen, O people: I have enjoyed the love of God.
ਹੇ ਲੋਕੋ! ਸੁਣੋ, (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ) ਮੈਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਿਆ ਹੈ,
ਦੁਰਜਨ ਮਾਰੇ ਵੈਰੀ ਸੰਘਾਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦਿਵਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
durjan maaray vairee sanghaaray satgur mo ka-o har naam divaa-i-aa.||1|| rahaa-o.
The true Guru has given me the gift of God’s Name, because of which I have killed all evil thoughts and vices. ||1||Pause||
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਂ ਭੈੜੇ ਭਾਵ ਮਾਰ ਲਏ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਵੈਰੀ ਮੁਕਾ ਲਏ ਹਨ l
ਪ੍ਰਥਮੇ ਤਿਆਗੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ॥
parathmay ti-aagee ha-umai pareet.
First of all, I gave up the love of self-conceit.
ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਹਉਮੈ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰਨਾ ਛੱਡ ਦਿੱਤਾ,
ਦੁਤੀਆ ਤਿਆਗੀ ਲੋਗਾ ਰੀਤਿ ॥
dutee-aa ti-aagee logaa reet.
Secondly, I renounced the ways of the world (customs and rituals).
ਦੂਜੇ ਮੈਂ ਲੋਕਾਚਾਰੀ ਰਸਮਾਂ ਛੱਡੀਆਂ,
ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਦੁਰਜਨ ਮੀਤ ਸਮਾਨੇ ॥
tarai gun ti-aag durjan meet samaanay.
Renouncing the three modes of Maya, I considered foes and friends as same.
ਫਿਰ ਮੈਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਤਿੰਨੇ ਲੱਛਣ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਵੈਰੀ ਤੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਇਕੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਹੀ ਸਮਝ ਲਏ।
ਤੁਰੀਆ ਗੁਣੁ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧ ਪਛਾਨੇ ॥੨॥
turee-aa gun mil saaDh pachhaanay. ||2||
Finally, upon meeting the Guru I realized the fourth state, Turya, the state of divine bliss. ||2||
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਗੁਣ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ ਲਈ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਉਤਾਂਹ ਚੌਥੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਦਰਜੇ ਤੇ ਅਪੜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਸਹਜ ਗੁਫਾ ਮਹਿ ਆਸਣੁ ਬਾਧਿਆ ॥
sahj gufaa meh aasan baaDhi-aa.
Now I am dwelling in the state of equipoise.
ਮੈਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਦੀ ਗੁਫਾ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਸਣ ਜਮਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਜੋਤਿ ਸਰੂਪ ਅਨਾਹਦੁ ਵਾਜਿਆ ॥
jot saroop anaahad vaaji-aa.
In my mind now keeps playing the celestial music of God.
ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਨਿਰੇ ਨੂਰ ਹੀ ਨੂਰ-ਰੂਪ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦਾ ਇਕ-ਰਸ ਵਾਜਾ ਵੱਜਣ ਲੱਗ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਮਹਾ ਅਨੰਦੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
mahaa anand gur sabad veechaar.
By reflecting on the Guru’s word, I am enjoying a feeling of supreme bliss.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਵੱਡਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਸਿਉ ਰਾਤੀ ਧਨ ਸੋਹਾਗਣਿ ਨਾਰਿ ॥੩॥
pari-a si-o raatee Dhan sohagan naar. ||3||
Being imbued with the love of my Beloved, I have become a blessed bride. ||3||
ਆਪਣੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗੀ ਹੋਈ ਮੈਂ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਪਤਨੀ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹਾਂ।
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਬੋਲੇ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
jan naanak bolay barahm beechaar.
Devotee Nanak is uttering the thoughts of divine wisdom.
ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜੋ ਸੁਣੇ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਸੁ ਉਤਰੈ ਪਾਰਿ ॥
jo sunay kamaavai so utrai paar.
One who listens this divine wisdom and acts upon it, swims across the world ocean of vices.
ਜੋ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਕਮਾਈ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਨਮਿ ਨ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
janam na marai na aavai na jaa-ay.
He neither takes birth nor he dies and does not fall in the cycles of birth and death.
ਉਹ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਨਾਹ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਹੈ ਨਾਹ ਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਨਾਹ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਨਾਹ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਓਹੁ ਰਹੈ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੪॥੨॥
har saytee oh rahai samaa-ay. ||4||2||
He always remains merged in God. ||4||2||
ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੨॥

ਨਿਜ ਭਗਤੀ ਸੀਲਵੰਤੀ ਨਾਰਿ ॥
nij bhagtee seelvantee naar.
The devotion to God, which is useful for one’s sou,l is like a loving bride,
ਆਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਕੰਮ ਆਉਣ ਵਾਲੀ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ) ਭਗਤੀ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਮਿੱਠੇ ਸੁਭਾਵ ਵਾਲੀ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਹੈ,
ਰੂਪਿ ਅਨੂਪ ਪੂਰੀ ਆਚਾਰਿ ॥
roop anoop pooree aachaar.
whose beauty is incomparable, and her character is perfect.
ਜਿਸਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਬੇਮਿਸਾਲ ਹੈ l ਜਿਸਦਾ ਆਚਰਣ ਮੁਕੰਮਲ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਤੁ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਵਸੈ ਸੋ ਗ੍ਰਿਹੁ ਸੋਭਾਵੰਤਾ ॥
jit garihi vasai so garihu sobhaavantaa.
That house (heart) becomes praiseworthy in which she (devotional worship) resides.
ਜਿਸ ਹਿਰਦੇ- ਘਰ ਵਿਚ (ਇਹ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ) ਵੱਸਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਘਰ ਸੋਭਾ ਵਾਲਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਈ ਕਿਨੈ ਵਿਰਲੈ ਜੰਤਾ ॥੧॥
gurmukh paa-ee kinai virlai jantaa. ||1||
But only a rare Guru’s follower attains such a devotional worship.||1||
ਪਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਜੀਵ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਇਹ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਸੁਕਰਣੀ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਹਮ ਪਾਈ ॥
sukarnee kaaman gur mil ham paa-ee.
By following the Guru’s teachings, I have attained a disposition of doing good deeds as if I have a bride whose natural inclination is to do good deeds.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਕਰਣੀ (-ਰੂਪ) ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਹਾਸਲ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ,
