ਸੋ ਬੂਝੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ॥
so boojhai jis aap bujhaa-ay.
He alone understands this secret, whom God Himself inspires to understand.
(ਇਸ ਭੇਤ ਨੂੰ) ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਆਪ ਸਮਝਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਸੇਵ ਕਰਾਏ ॥੧॥
gur parsaadee sayv karaa-ay. ||1||
Then by the Guru’s grace, God makes him perform His devotional service. ||1||
ਤੇ ਉਸ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਗਿਆਨ ਰਤਨਿ ਸਭ ਸੋਝੀ ਹੋਇ ॥
gi-aan ratan sabh sojhee ho-ay.
Through the jewel like divine wisdom bestowed by the Guru, one attains complete understanding about living a righteous life.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੇ ਹੋਏ ਗਿਆਨ-ਰਤਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਸਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਜੁਗਤਿ ਬਾਰੇ ਸਮਝ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਬਿਨਾਸੈ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਾਗੈ ਵੇਖੈ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur parsaad agi-aan binaasai an-din jaagai vaykhai sach so-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
By the Guru’s grace ignorance is destroyed; he always remains alert to the onslaught of Maya and perceives God pervading everywhere.||1||Pause||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਅਗਿਆਨ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਹੱਲਿਆਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਸੁਚੇਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਉਸ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਮੋਹੁ ਗੁਮਾਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਏ ॥
moh gumaan gur sabad jalaa-ay.
Following Guru’s word, one who drives out one’s worldly attachments and ego,
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਮੋਹ ਅਤੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਸਾੜ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ,
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਏ ॥
pooray gur tay sojhee paa-ay.
obtains true understanding about the right way of life from the perfect Guru.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਸਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਜੁਗਤਿ ਸਮਝ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਮਹਲੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਣੈ ॥
antar mahal gur sabad pachhaanai.
Through the Guru’s word, he realizes God’s presence within.
ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਵੱਸਦੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਪਛਾਣ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣੁ ਰਹੈ ਥਿਰੁ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਣੇ ॥੨॥
aavan jaan rahai thir naam samaanay. ||2||
His cycle of birth and death ends; achieving the stete of equipoise he merges in God’s Name .||2||
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਅਡੋਲ-ਚਿੱਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਜੰਮਣੁ ਮਰਣਾ ਹੈ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥
jaman marnaa hai sansaar.
(For a self-conceited person) the world is tied to the cycle of birth and death.
(ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਜਗਤ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਹੀ ਹੈ।
ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਅਚੇਤੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਗੁਬਾਰੁ ॥
manmukh achayt maa-i-aa moh gubaar.
Entrapped in the darkness of Maya, the self-conceited person remains unaware of God’s presence.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਲੋਂ ਗ਼ਾਫ਼ਿਲ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ-ਰੂਪ ਘੁੱਪ ਹਨੇਰਾ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੁਝ ਸੁੱਝਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੇਂਦਾ।
ਪਰ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਬਹੁ ਕੂੜੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥
par nindaa baho koorh kamaavai.
He slanders others and practices utter falsehood.
ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਾਈ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਨਿਰਾ ਝੂਠ-ਫ਼ਰੇਬ ਹੀ ਕਮਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਵਿਸਟਾ ਕਾ ਕੀੜਾ ਵਿਸਟਾ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥੩॥
vistaa kaa keerhaa vistaa maahi samaavai. ||3||
He is like a worm in the filth and in the filth he is consumed. ||3||
ਉਹ ਗੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਕਿਰਮ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਗੰਦਗੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੀ ਗਲ ਸੜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਭ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਏ ॥
satsangat mil sabh sojhee paa-ay.
One who obtains true understanding about righteous living by joining the congregation of saints,
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ (ਸਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ) ਸਾਰੀ ਸੂਝ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ॥
gur kaa sabad har bhagat drirh-aa-ay.
the Guru’s word firmly enshrines God’s devotional worship in his mind.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਮਈ ਸੇਵਾ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਪੱਕੀ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਭਾਣਾ ਮੰਨੇ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
bhaanaa mannay sadaa sukh ho-ay.
One who surrenders to God’s will, he always remain in peace.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੰਨਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੪॥੧੦॥੪੯॥
naanak sach samaavai so-ay. ||4||10||49||
O’ Nanak, he merges in the eternal God. ||4||10||49||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥੧੦॥੪੯॥

ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਦਾ ਅਨੰਦ ॥
sabad marai tis sadaa anand.
One who follows the Guru’s teachings and eradicates his love for Maya, always remain in bliss.
ਜੋ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਲੋਂ ਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭੇਟੇ ਗੁਰ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ॥
satgur bhaytay gur gobind.
He follows the teachings of true Guru, the embodiment of God.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ, ਰੱਬ ਰੂਪ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਨਾ ਫਿਰਿ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥
naa fir marai na aavai jaa-ay.
He does not die spiritually and does not fall into the cycle of birth and death.
ਉਹ ਮੁੜ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਰਦਾ, ਉਹ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਮਰਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧॥
pooray gur tay saach samaa-ay. ||1||
By the grace of the Perfect Guru, he merges in the eternal God ||1||
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਅਭੇਦ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਕਉ ਨਾਮੁ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਧੁਰਿ ਲੇਖੁ ॥
jinH ka-o naam likhi-aa Dhur laykh.
Those who are predestined with the gift of meditation on God’s Name,
(ਪਿਛਲੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ) ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਤੇ ਨਾਮ-ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਲੇਖ ਲਿਖ ਦਿੱਤਾ.
ਤੇ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦਾ ਧਿਆਵਹਿ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਤੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਵਿਸੇਖੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tay an-din naam sadaa Dhi-aavahi gur pooray tay bhagat visaykh. ||1|| rahaa-o.
they obtain the special gift of God’s worship and always meditate on God’s Name. ||1||Pause||
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਭਗਤੀ ਦਾ ਟਿੱਕਾ (ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ) ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਕਉ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਲਏ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥
jinH ka-o har parabh la-ay milaa-ay.
Those whom God unites with Himself,
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਕੀ ਗਹਣ ਗਤਿ ਕਹੀ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
tinH kee gahan gat kahee na jaa-ay.
their sublime spiritual state cannot be described.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ।
ਪੂਰੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਦਿਤੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
poorai satgur ditee vadi-aa-ee.
Those whom the Perfect Guru has blessed with the virtue of devotional worship,
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਨ ਦੀ ਇਹ) ਵਡਿਆਈ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀ,
ਊਤਮ ਪਦਵੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੨॥
ootam padvee har naam samaa-ee. ||2||
they attain the highest spiritual state by remaining merged in God’s Name. ||2||
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਗਈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਲੀਨਤਾ ਹੋ ਗਈ ॥੨॥
ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ॥
jo kichh karay so aapay aap.
Whatever God does, He does all by Himself.
ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਏਕ ਘੜੀ ਮਹਿ ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪਿ ॥
ayk gharhee meh thaap uthaap.
God can create and destroy anything in an instant.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਇਕ ਘੜੀ ਵਿਚ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਤੁਰਤ ਨਾਸ ਭੀ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ’
ਕਹਿ ਕਹਿ ਕਹਣਾ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਏ ॥
kahi kahi kahnaa aakh sunaa-ay.
One who is only saying and telling others about meditation on God’s Name.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਬਾਰੇ ਆਖ ਕੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਜੇ ਸਉ ਘਾਲੇ ਥਾਇ ਨ ਪਾਏ ॥੩॥
jay sa-o ghaalay thaa-ay na paa-ay. ||3||
Even if he makes hundreds of such efforts, none of these is accepted in God’s court. ||3||
ਜੇ ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਸੌ ਘਾਲਣਾ ਭੀ ਘਾਲੇ ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਅਜੇਹੀ ਕੋਈ ਮੇਹਨਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਕਬੂਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦੀ ॥੩॥
ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਕੈ ਪੋਤੈ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥
jinH kai potai punn tinHaa guroo milaa-ay.
God unites only those with the Guru, who have the credit of good deeds.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੱਲੇ ਚੰਗੇ ਸੰਸਕਾਰ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈl
ਸਚੁ ਬਾਣੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਣਾਏ ॥
sach banee gur sabad sunaa-ay.
The Guru recites the true word of God’s praises to them.
ਗੁਰੂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਸੁਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸੁਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਜਹਾਂ ਸਬਦੁ ਵਸੈ ਤਹਾਂ ਦੁਖੁ ਜਾਏ ॥
jahaaN sabad vasai tahaaN dukh jaa-ay.
All the misery goes away from the heart which enshrines the Guru’s word.
ਜਿਸ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਥੋਂ ਹਰੇਕ ਕਿਸਮ ਦਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗਿਆਨਿ ਰਤਨਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥੪॥
gi-aan ratan saachai sahj samaa-ay. ||4||
By reflecting on the jewel like precious divine knowledge, one intuitively merges in the eternal God. ||4||
ਗਿਆਨ-ਰਤਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸੁਖੈਨ ਹੀ, ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਨਾਵੈ ਜੇਵਡੁ ਹੋਰੁ ਧਨੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥
naavai jayvad hor Dhan naahee ko-ay.
No other wealth is as valuable as God’s Name.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਦਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਧਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਬਖਸੇ ਸਾਚਾ ਸੋਇ ॥
jis no bakhsay saachaa so-ay.
This wealth is attained only by the one on whom God bestows Himself.
ਇਹ ਧਨ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਪੂਰੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥
poorai sabad man vasaa-ay.
By following the perfect Guru’s word, he enshrines God’s Name in his heart.
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥੫॥੧੧॥੫੦॥
naanak naam ratay sukh paa-ay. ||5||11||50||
O’ Nanak, imbued with God’s Name, he enjoys spiritual peace. ||5||11||50||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੀਜ ਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੫॥੧੧॥੫੦॥

Raag Aasaa, Third Guru:
ਨਿਰਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਬਹੁ ਵਾਜੇ ਵਜਾਏ ॥
nirat karay baho vaajay vajaa-ay.
One may dance and play numerous musical instruments;
ਆਦਮੀ ਨਿਰਤਕਾਰੀ ਕਰੇ ਅਤੇ ਘਨੇਰੇ ਸੰਗੀਤਕ ਸਾਜ਼ ਪਿਆ ਵਜਾਵੇ।
ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਅੰਧਾ ਬੋਲਾ ਹੈ ਕਿਸੁ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਏ ॥

ਪਰ ਇਹ ਮਨ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਤੇ ਬੋਲਾ ਹੈ। ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਆਖ ਕੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੁਣਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲੋਭੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਅਨਲ ਵਾਉ ॥
antar lobh bharam anal vaa-o.
Deep within him is the fire of greed and the dust-storm of doubt.
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਲਾਲਚ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਬਲ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦਾ ਝੱਖੜ ਝੁੱਲ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ l
ਦੀਵਾ ਬਲੈ ਨ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਇ ॥੧॥
deevaa balai na sojhee paa-ay. ||1||
His mind is not enlightened with divine knowledge and he does not obtain any understanding about righteousness.||1||
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਗਿਆਨ ਦਾ ਦੀਵਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਗਦਾ, ਉਹ ਸਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸਮਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੧॥
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਘਟਿ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
gurmukh bhagat ghat chaanan ho-ay.
The devotional worship performed through the Guru’s teachings enlightens the heart with divine knowledge.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਭਗਤੀ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਗਿਆਨ ਦਾ ਚਾਨਣ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
aap pachhaan milai parabh so-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
By understanding his own self, he realizes that God ||1||Pause||
ਇਸ ਭਗਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਖਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਿਰਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਲਾਗੈ ਭਾਉ ॥
gurmukh nirat har laagai bhaa-o.
The true dance is to follow the Guru’s teachings, which produces love for God.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਹੀ ਨਾਚ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਪੂਰੇ ਤਾਲ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥
pooray taal vichahu aap gavaa-ay.
Shedding self-conceit from within is following the beat of the drum.
ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨਾ ਹੀ ਹੈ ਤਾਲ ਸਿਰ ਨਾਚ ਕਰਨਾ।
ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਣੁ ॥
mayraa parabh saachaa aapay jaan.
My eternal God Himself is the knower of everything.
ਮੇਰਾ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜਾਨਣਹਾਰ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਪਛਾਣੁ ॥੨॥
gur kai sabad antar barahm pachhaan. ||2||
Through the Guru’s word, he realizes God within himself ||2||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਪਛਾਣੂ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
gurmukh bhagat antar pareet pi-aar.
Love and affection develops within a person through the devotional worship done by following the Guru’s teachings.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਕੀਤੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਪਿਆਰ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਹਜਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
gur kaa sabad sahj veechaar.
The Guru’s word leads a person to a state of equipoise and reflection on the divine virtues.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਲੈ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ) ਵਿਚਾਰ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ।.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਇ ॥
gurmukh bhagat jugat sach so-ay.
The devotional worship done by following the Guru’s teachings is the right way to realize God.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਭਗਤੀ ਹੀ (ਸਹੀ) ਤਰੀਕਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਪਾਖੰਡਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਨਿਰਤਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੩॥
pakhand bhagat nirat dukh ho-ay. ||3||
The false devotion shown through ritualistic dancing only brings misery.||3||
ਵਿਖਾਵੇ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਚ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਦੁੱਖ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੩॥
