ਜਬ ਲਗੁ ਘਟ ਮਹਿ ਦੂਜੀ ਆਨ ॥
jab lag ghat meh doojee aan.
As long as there is desire to please and be accepted by the worldly people,
ਜਦੋਂ ਤਕ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਦੁਨੀਆਵੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਆਦਿਕ ਦੀ ਵਾਸ਼ਨਾ ਹੈ,
ਤਉ ਲਉ ਮਹਲਿ ਨ ਲਾਭੈ ਜਾਨ ॥
ta-o la-o mahal na laabhai jaan.
till then one cannot attain God’s love.
ਤਦ ਤਕ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਰਮਤ ਰਾਮ ਸਿਉ ਲਾਗੋ ਰੰਗੁ ॥
ramat raam si-o laago rang.
While meditating on God, when one gets imbued with His love,
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਤਬ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਅੰਗ ॥੮॥੧॥
kahi kabeer tab nirmal ang. ||8||1||
then one becomes immaculate, says Kabeer. ||8||1||
ਅਤੇ ਕਬੀਰ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ-ਤਦੋਂ ਸਰੀਰ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੮॥੧॥
ਰਾਗੁ ਗਉੜੀ ਚੇਤੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਨਾਮਦੇਉ ਜੀਉ ਕੀ

One eternal God. Realized by the grace of the true guru:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਦੇਵਾ ਪਾਹਨ ਤਾਰੀਅਲੇ ॥
dayvaa paahan taaree-alay.
O’ God, You have caused even those stones to swim in the ocean upon which was written Your Name.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਉਹ) ਪੱਥਰ (ਭੀ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਉੱਤੇ) ਤੂੰ ਤਰਾ ਦਿੱਤੇ (ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਤੇਰਾ ‘ਰਾਮ’ ਨਾਮ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ)
ਰਾਮ ਕਹਤ ਜਨ ਕਸ ਨ ਤਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
raam kahat jan kas na taray. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Then why those devotees would not be saved who utter Your Name? |1|Pause|
(ਭਲਾ) ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਕਿਉਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਤਰਨਗੇ, ਜੋ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ? ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਤਾਰੀਲੇ ਗਨਿਕਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਰੂਪ ਕੁਬਿਜਾ ਬਿਆਧਿ ਅਜਾਮਲੁ ਤਾਰੀਅਲੇ ॥
taareelay ganikaa bin roop kubijaa bi-aaDh ajaamal taaree-alay.
You saved Ganika, the prostitute and the ugly hunchback; You helped the sinner Ajaamal swim across the worldly ocean of vices as well.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਮੰਦ-ਕਰਮਣ ਵੇਸਵਾ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾ ਲਈ, ਤੂੰ ਕੁਰੂਪ ਕੁਬਿਜਾ ਦਾ ਕੋਝ ਦੂਰ ਕੀਤਾ, ਤੂੰ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਗਲੇ ਹੋਏ ਅਜਾਮਲ ਨੂੰ ਤਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
ਚਰਨ ਬਧਿਕ ਜਨ ਤੇਊ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਭਏ ॥
charan baDhik jan tay-oo mukat bha-ay.
The hunter who shot Krishna in the foot and many other sinners like him were liberated
(ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ ਜੀ ਦੇ) ਪੈਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨਾ ਮਾਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਰੀ (ਅਤੇ) ਅਜਿਹੇ ਕਈ (ਵਿਕਾਰੀ) ਬੰਦੇ (ਤੇਰੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ) ਮੁਕਤ ਹੋ ਗਏ।
ਹਉ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਜਿਨ ਰਾਮ ਕਹੇ ॥੧॥
ha-o bal bal jin raam kahay. ||1||
I am dedicated to those who meditate on God’s Name. ||1||
ਮੈਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਹਾਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ॥੧॥
ਦਾਸੀ ਸੁਤ ਜਨੁ ਬਿਦਰੁ ਸੁਦਾਮਾ ਉਗ੍ਰਸੈਨ ਕਉ ਰਾਜ ਦੀਏ ॥
daasee sut jan bidar sudaamaa ugarsain ka-o raaj dee-ay.
O’ God, You saved Bidur, the son of a slave girl, Krishna’s humble friend Sudama and restored the kingdom to Ugarsen.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਗੋੱਲੀ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਬਿਦਰ ਤੇਰਾ ਭਗਤ (ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧ ਹੋਇਆ); ਸੁਦਾਮਾ (ਇਸ ਦਾ ਤੂੰ ਦਲਿੱਦਰ ਕੱਟਿਆ), ਉਗਰਸੈਨ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਰਾਜ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
ਜਪ ਹੀਨ ਤਪ ਹੀਨ ਕੁਲ ਹੀਨ ਕ੍ਰਮ ਹੀਨ ਨਾਮੇ ਕੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਤੇਊ ਤਰੇ ॥੨॥੧॥
jap heen tap heen kul heen karam heen naamay kay su-aamee tay-oo taray. ||2||1||
O’ the Master of Namdev, You saved even those who did not have the merits of meditation, penance, good lineage and good deeds. ||2||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਮਦੇਵ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ! ਤੇਰੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਉਹ ਤਰ ਗਏ ਹਨ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕੋਈ ਜਪ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੇ, ਕੋਈ ਤਪ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਾਧੇ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਕੋਈ ਉੱਚੀ ਕੁਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ, ਕੋਈ ਚੰਗੇ ਅਮਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਨ ॥੨॥੧॥

ੴ ਸਤਿਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਗੁਰਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik-oNkaar satnaam kartaa purakh gurparsaad.
One eternal God, Creator, all-pervading, realized by the Guru’s grace:
ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ‘ਹੋਂਦ ਵਾਲਾ’ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦਾ ਰਚਨਹਾਰ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਜੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮੇਰੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਪੋਚ ਸੋਚ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ॥
mayree sangat poch soch din raatee.
O’ God, day and night I worry about my fate because my company is with evil-minded persons,
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਸੋਚ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ (ਮੇਰਾ ਕੀਹ ਬਣੇਗਾ?) ਮਾੜਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਰਾ ਬਹਿਣ-ਖਲੋਣ ਹੈ,
ਮੇਰਾ ਕਰਮੁ ਕੁਟਿਲਤਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਕੁਭਾਂਤੀ ॥੧॥
mayraa karam kutiltaa janam kubhaaNtee. ||1||
my actions are deceitful and I belong to a low social class. ||1||
ਖੋਟ ਮੇਰਾ (ਨਿੱਤ-ਕਰਮ) ਹੈ; ਮੇਰਾ ਜਨਮ (ਭੀ) ਨੀਵੀਂ ਜਾਤਿ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਰਾਮ ਗੁਸਈਆ ਜੀਅ ਕੇ ਜੀਵਨਾ ॥
raam gus-ee-aa jee-a kay jeevnaa.
O’ God, the Master of earth and sustainer of life,
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਰਾਮ! ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਰਾਮ! ਹੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇ ਸਾਈਂ! ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਦੇ ਆਸਰੇ!
ਮੋਹਿ ਨ ਬਿਸਾਰਹੁ ਮੈ ਜਨੁ ਤੇਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
mohi na bisaarahu mai jan tayraa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
please do not forsake me! I am Your humble servant. ||1||Pause||
ਮੈਨੂੰ ਨਾਹ ਵਿਸਾਰੀਂ, ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਦਾਸ ਹਾਂ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਮੇਰੀ ਹਰਹੁ ਬਿਪਤਿ ਜਨ ਕਰਹੁ ਸੁਭਾਈ ॥
mayree harahu bipat jan karahu subhaa-ee.
O’ God, please remove my distress and bless me, Your devotee, with sublime thoughts.
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਮੇਰੀ ਇਹ ਬਿਪਤਾ ਕੱਟ; ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸੇਵਕ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗੀ ਭਾਵਨਾ ਵਾਲਾ ਬਣਾ ਲੈ.
ਚਰਣ ਨ ਛਾਡਉ ਸਰੀਰ ਕਲ ਜਾਈ ॥੨॥
charan na chhaada-o sareer kal jaa-ee. ||2||
I will never forsake Your love even if my body may lose all its strength. ||2||
ਚਾਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਦੀ ਸੱਤਿਆ ਭੀ ਚਲੀ ਜਾਵੇ, ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਚਰਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਛੱਡਾਂਗਾ ॥੨॥
ਕਹੁ ਰਵਿਦਾਸ ਪਰਉ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਾਭਾ ॥
kaho ravidaas para-o tayree saabhaa.
Ravi dass says, O’ God, I have come to Your refuge,
ਰਵਿਦਾਸ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- (ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਪਿਆ ਹਾਂ
ਬੇਗਿ ਮਿਲਹੁ ਜਨ ਕਰਿ ਨ ਬਿਲਾਂਬਾ ॥੩॥੧॥
bayg milhu jan kar na bilaaNbaa. ||3||1||
please don’t delay and quickly meet me, Your servant. ||3||1||
ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸੇਵਕ ਨੂੰ ਛੇਤੀ ਮਿਲੋ, ਢਿੱਲ ਨਾਹ ਕਰ ॥੩॥੧॥
ਬੇਗਮ ਪੁਰਾ ਸਹਰ ਕੋ ਨਾਉ ॥
baygam puraa sahar konaa-o.
Begumpura, the city without sorrow, is the state of mind in which I now reside.
ਜਿਸ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ-ਰੂਪ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਵਿਚ ਮੈਂ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਉਸ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੈ ਬੇ-ਗ਼ਮਪੁਰਾ
ਦੂਖੁ ਅੰਦੋਹੁ ਨਹੀ ਤਿਹਿ ਠਾਉ ॥
dookh andohu nahee tihi thaa-o.
In that place (state of mind) there is neither any suffering nor any worry.
ਉਸ ਥਾਂ ਨਾਹ ਕੋਈ ਦੁੱਖ ਹੈ, ਨਾਹ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਨਾਹ ਕੋਈ ਘਬਰਾਹਟ l
ਨਾਂ ਤਸਵੀਸ ਖਿਰਾਜੁ ਨ ਮਾਲੁ ॥
naaN tasvees khiraaj na maal.
There are no worries and no taxes on possessions.
ਉਥੇ ਮਾਲ ਅਸਬਾਬ ਤੇ ਮਸੂਲ ਲਗਨ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਨਹੀਂ
ਖਉਫੁ ਨ ਖਤਾ ਨ ਤਰਸੁ ਜਵਾਲੁ ॥੧॥
kha-uf na khataa na taras javaal. ||1||
In that state of mind there is no fear of commiting sins, or any dread of spiritual decline. ||1||
ਉਸ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ ਕਿਸੇ ਪਾਪ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਤਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ; ਕੋਈ ਡਰ ਨਹੀਂ; ਕੋਈ ਗਿਰਾਵਟ ਨਹੀਂ ॥੧॥
ਅਬ ਮੋਹਿ ਖੂਬ ਵਤਨ ਗਹ ਪਾਈ ॥
ab mohi khoob vatan gah paa-ee.
O’ my brother, now I have found a very pleasant place to reside,
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਵੀਰ! ਹੁਣ ਮੈਂ ਵੱਸਣ ਲਈ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਥਾਂ ਲੱਭ ਲਈ ਹੈ,
ਊਹਾਂ ਖੈਰਿ ਸਦਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
oohaaN khair sadaa mayray bhaa-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
where there is always peace and calm. ||1||Pause||
ਉਥੇ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖ ਹੀ ਸੁਖ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਕਾਇਮੁ ਦਾਇਮੁ ਸਦਾ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੀ ॥
kaa-im daa-im sadaa paatisaahee.
This state of mind is an everlasting dominion.
ਉਹ (ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਇਕ ਐਸੀ) ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ (ਹੈ ਜੋ) ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਟਿਕੀ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ,
ਦੋਮ ਨ ਸੇਮ ਏਕ ਸੋ ਆਹੀ ॥
dom na saym ayk so aahee.
No one is treated here as a second or third class citizen, all are considered equal.
ਉਥੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਦਾ ਦੂਜਾ ਤੀਜਾ ਦਰਜਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਸਭ ਇਕੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਹਨ।
ਆਬਾਦਾਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਮਸਹੂਰ ॥
aabaadaan sadaa mashoor.
That city is populous and eternally famous.
ਉਹ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਸਦਾ ਉੱਘਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਊਹਾਂ ਗਨੀ ਬਸਹਿ ਮਾਮੂਰ ॥੨॥
oohaaN ganee baseh maamoor. ||2||
Those who live here are so blessed with the wealth of Name that they feel themselves wealthy and satiated. ||2||
ਉਥੇ ਧਨੀ ਤੇ ਰੱਜੇ ਹੋਏ ਬੰਦੇ ਵੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੨॥
ਤਿਉ ਤਿਉ ਸੈਲ ਕਰਹਿ ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ॥
ti-o ti-o sail karahi ji-o bhaavai.
In that state of bliss they go about as they please.
ਉਸ ਆਤਮਕ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਵਿਚ ਅੱਪੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਬੰਦੇ ਉਸ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ) ਅਨੰਦ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਚਰਦੇ ਹਨ;
ਮਹਰਮ ਮਹਲ ਨ ਕੋ ਅਟਕਾਵੈ ॥
mahram mahal na ko atkaavai.
They are familiar with God’s presence, therefore, nobody prevents them from realizing Him.
ਉਹ ਉਸ ਰੱਬੀ ਮਹਲ ਦੇ ਭੇਤੀ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ; (ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਕੋਈ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਹ ਵਿਚ) ਰੋਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਕਹਿ ਰਵਿਦਾਸ ਖਲਾਸ ਚਮਾਰਾ ॥
kahi ravidaas khalaas chamaaraa.
Ravidas, a cobbler who has been liberated, says,
ਚਮਿਆਰ ਰਵਿਦਾਸ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ-
ਜੋ ਹਮ ਸਹਰੀ ਸੁ ਮੀਤੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ॥੩॥੨॥
jo ham sahree so meet hamaaraa. ||3||2||
whosoever lives in this town (state of mind) is my friend. ||3||2||
ਜੋ ਮੇਰੇ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਦਾ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਹੈ।
ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

ਰਾਗ ਗਉੜੀ-ਬੈਰਾਗਣਿ ਵਿੱਚ ਭਗਤ ਰਵਿਦਾਸ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ।
ਘਟ ਅਵਘਟ ਡੂਗਰ ਘਣਾ ਇਕੁ ਨਿਰਗੁਣੁ ਬੈਲੁ ਹਮਾਰ ॥
ghat avghat doogar ghanaa ik nirgun bail hamaar.
The path to attain God is very treacherous like a mountain; to climb on this path my ox like mind is without any virtues.
ਰੱਬ ਦਾ ਰਸਤਾ ਬੜਾ ਬਿਖੜਾ ਅਤੇ ਪਹਾੜੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ-ਬਲ੍ਹਦ ਨਿਕੰਮਾ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਣ-ਹੀਨਹੈ।
ਰਮਈਏ ਸਿਉ ਇਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਪੂੰਜੀ ਰਾਖੁ ਮੁਰਾਰਿ ॥੧॥
ram-ee-ay si-o ik bayntee mayree poonjee raakh muraar. ||1||
Therefore, I pray to God, please protect my capital of efforts to meditate on Your Name. ||1||
ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਅੱਗੇ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈ ਹੈ-ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੇਰੀ ਰਾਸਿ-ਪੂੰਜੀ ਦੀ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰੀਂ ॥੧॥
ਕੋ ਬਨਜਾਰੋ ਰਾਮ ਕੋ ਮੇਰਾ ਟਾਂਡਾ ਲਾਦਿਆ ਜਾਇ ਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ko banjaaro raam ko mayraa taaNdaa laadi-aa jaa-ay ray. ||1|| rahaa-o.
If I can meet a true merchant of Naam, then I can also carry the wealth of Naam on my spiritual journey. ||1||Pause||
ਜੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਵਣਜ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਕੋਈ ਬੰਦਾ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ ਤਾਂ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਾਲ ਭੀ ਲੱਦਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕੇ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
